Point clouds upsampling is a challenging issue to generate dense and uniform point clouds from the given sparse input. Most existing methods either take the end-to-end supervised learning based manner, where large amounts of pairs of sparse input and dense ground-truth are exploited as supervision information; or treat up-scaling of different scale factors as independent tasks, and have to build multiple networks to handle upsampling with varying factors. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that achieves self-supervised and magnification-flexible point clouds upsampling simultaneously. We formulate point clouds upsampling as the task of seeking nearest projection points on the implicit surface for seed points. To this end, we define two implicit neural functions to estimate projection direction and distance respectively, which can be trained by two pretext learning tasks. Experimental results demonstrate that our self-supervised learning based scheme achieves competitive or even better performance than supervised learning based state-of-the-art methods. Point clouds obtained from 3D sensors are usually sparse. Existing methods mainly focus on upsampling sparse point clouds in a supervised manner by using dense ground truth point clouds. In this paper, we propose a self-supervised point cloud upsampling network (SSPU-Net) to generate dense point clouds without using ground truth. To achieve this, we exploit the consistency between the input sparse point cloud and generated dense point cloud for the shapes and rendered images. Specifically, we first propose a neighbor expansion unit (NEU) to upsample the sparse point clouds, where the local geo…

The task of point cloud upsampling aims to acquire dense and uniform point sets from sparse and irregular point sets. Although significant progress has been made with deep learning models, state-of-the-art methods require ground-truth dense point sets as the supervision, which makes them limited to be trained under synthetic paired training data and not suitable to be under real-scanned sparse data. However, it is expensive and tedious to obtain large numbers of paired sparse-dense point sets as supervision from real-scanned sparse data. To address this problem, we propose a self-supervised po…
In computer-aided design (CAD) community, the point cloud data is pervasively applied in reverse engineering, where the point cloud analysis plays an important role. While a large number of supervised learning methods have been proposed to handle the unordered point clouds and demonstrated their remarkable success, their performance and applicability are limited to the costly data annotation. In this work, we propose a novel self-supervised pretraining model for point cloud learning without human annotations, which relies solely on upsampling operation to perform feature learning of point clou…

Point cloud upsampling is essential for high-quality augmented reality, virtual reality, and telepresence applications, due to the capture, processing, and communication limitations of existing technologies. Although geometry upsampling to densify a point cloud's coordinates has been well studied, the upsampling of the color attributes has been largely overlooked. In this paper, we propose CU-Net, the first deep-learning point cloud color upsampling model that enables low latency and high visual fidelity operation. CU-Net achieves linear time and space complexity by leveraging a feature extrac…

Recent supervised point cloud upsampling methods are restricted by the size of training data and are limited in terms of covering all object shapes. Besides the challenges faced due to data acquisition, the networks also struggle to generalize on unseen records. In this paper, we present an internal point cloud upsampling approach at a holistic level referred to as "Zero-Shot" Point Cloud Upsampling (ZSPU). Our approach is data agnostic and relies solely on the internal information provided by a particular point cloud without patching in both self-training and testing phases. This single-strea…

We present Gradient-SDF, a novel representation for 3D geometry that combines the advantages of implict and explicit representations. By storing at every voxel both the signed distance field as well as its gradient vector field, we enhance the capability of implicit representations with approaches originally formulated for explicit surfaces. As concrete examples, we show that (1) the Gradient-SDF allows us to perform direct SDF tracking from depth images, using efficient storage schemes like hash maps, and that (2) the Gradient-SDF representation enables us to perform photometric bundle adjust…

Recent advances show that semi-supervised implicit representation learning can be achieved through physical constraints like Eikonal equations. However, this scheme has not yet been successfully used for LiDAR point cloud data, due to its spatially varying sparsity. In this paper, we develop a novel formulation that conditions the semi-supervised implicit function on localized shape embeddings. It exploits the strong representation learning power of sparse convolutional networks to generate shape-aware dense feature volumes, while still allows semi-supervised signed distance function learning …

Self-supervised learning for depth estimation uses geometry in image sequences for supervision and shows promising results. Like many computer vision tasks, depth network performance is determined by the capability to learn accurate spatial and semantic representations from images. Therefore, it is natural to exploit semantic segmentation networks for depth estimation. In this work, based on a well-developed semantic segmentation network HRNet, we propose a novel depth estimation network DIFFNet, which can make use of semantic information in down and upsampling procedures. By applying feature …

In self-supervised monocular depth estimation, the depth discontinuity and motion objects' artifacts are still challenging problems. Existing self-supervised methods usually utilize a single view to train the depth estimation network. Compared with static views, abundant dynamic properties between video frames are beneficial to refined depth estimation, especially for dynamic objects. In this work, we propose a novel self-supervised joint learning framework for depth estimation using consecutive frames from monocular and stereo videos. The main idea is using an implicit depth cue extractor whi…
Self-supervised depth estimation has made a great success in learning depth from unlabeled image sequences. While the mappings between image and pixel-wise depth are well-studied in current methods, the correlation between image, depth and scene semantics, however, is less considered. This hinders the network to better understand the real geometry of the scene, since the contextual clues, contribute not only the latent representations of scene depth, but also the straight constraints for depth map. In this paper, we leverage the two benefits by proposing the implicit and explicit semantic guid…

360° images are widely available over the last few years. This paper proposes a new technique for single 360° image depth prediction under open environments. Depth prediction from a 360° single image is not easy for two reasons. One is the limitation of supervision datasets - the currently available dataset is limited to indoor scenes. The other is the problems caused by Equirectangular Projection Format (ERP), commonly used for 360° images, that are coordinate and distortion. There is only one method existing that uses cube map projection to produce six perspective images and apply self-super…

We propose a novel end-to-end deep scene flow model, called PointPWC-Net, on 3D point clouds in a coarse-to-fine fashion. Flow computed at the coarse level is upsampled and warped to a finer level, enabling the algorithm to accommodate for large motion without a prohibitive search space. We introduce novel cost volume, upsampling, and warping layers to efficiently handle 3D point cloud data. Unlike traditional cost volumes that require exhaustively computing all the cost values on a high-dimensional grid, our point-based formulation discretizes the cost volume onto input 3D points, and a Point…

The primary aim of single-image super-resolution is to construct high-resolution (HR) images from corresponding low-resolution (LR) inputs. In previous approaches, which have generally been supervised, the training objective typically measures a pixel-wise average distance between the super-resolved (SR) and HR images. Optimizing such metrics often leads to blurring, especially in high variance (detailed) regions. We propose an alternative formulation of the super-resolution problem based on creating realistic SR images that downscale correctly. We present an algorithm addressing this problem,…

There has been recently a growing interest for implicit shape representations. Contrary to explicit representations, they have no resolution limitations and they easily deal with a wide variety of surface topologies. To learn these implicit representations, current approaches rely on a certain level of shape supervision (e.g., inside/outside information or distance-to-shape knowledge), or at least require a dense point cloud (to approximate well enough the distance-to-shape). In contrast, we introduce NeeDrop, a self-supervised method for learning shape representations from possibly extremely …

We propose a novel end-to-end RGB-D SLAM, iDF-SLAM, which adopts a feature-based deep neural tracker as the front-end and a NeRF-style neural implicit mapper as the back-end. The neural implicit mapper is trained on-the-fly, while though the neural tracker is pretrained on the ScanNet dataset, it is also finetuned along with the training of the neural implicit mapper. Under such a design, our iDF-SLAM is capable of learning to use scene-specific features for camera tracking, thus enabling lifelong learning of the SLAM system. Both the training for the tracker and the mapper are self-supervised…

Implicit neural representation (INR) is a popular approach for arbitrary-scale image super-resolution (SR), as a key component of INR, position encoding improves its representation ability. Motivated by position encoding, we propose orthogonal position encoding (OPE) - an extension of position encoding - and an OPE-Upscale module to replace the INR-based upsampling module for arbitrary-scale image super-resolution. Same as INR, our OPE-Upscale Module takes 2D coordinates and latent code as inputs; however it does not require training parameters. This parameter-free feature allows the OPE-Upsca…

We present SILT, a Self-supervised Implicit Lighting Transfer method. Unlike previous research on scene relighting, we do not seek to apply arbitrary new lighting configurations to a given scene. Instead, we wish to transfer the lighting style from a database of other scenes, to provide a uniform lighting style regardless of the input. The solution operates as a two-branch network that first aims to map input images of any arbitrary lighting style to a unified domain, with extra guidance achieved through implicit image decomposition. We then remap this unified input domain using a discriminato…

Implicit neural representation has recently shown a promising ability in representing images with arbitrary resolutions. In this paper, we present a Local Implicit Transformer (LIT), which integrates the attention mechanism and frequency encoding technique into a local implicit image function. We design a cross-scale local attention block to effectively aggregate local features. To further improve representative power, we propose a Cascaded LIT (CLIT) that exploits multi-scale features, along with a cumulative training strategy that gradually increases the upsampling scales during training. We…
We consider the task of representation learning for unsupervised segmentation of 3D voxel-grid biomedical images. We show that models that capture implicit hierarchical relationships between subvolumes are better suited for this task. To that end, we consider encoder-decoder architectures with a hyperbolic latent space, to explicitly capture hierarchical relationships present in subvolumes of the data. We propose utilizing a 3D hyperbolic variational autoencoder with a novel gyroplane convolutional layer to map from the embedding space back to 3D images. To capture these relationships, we intr…
Single-image super-resolution (SR) with fixed and discrete scale factors has achieved great progress due to the development of deep learning technology. However, the continuous-scale SR, which aims to use a single model to process arbitrary (integer or non-integer) scale factors, is still a challenging task. The existing SR models generally adopt static convolution to extract features, and thus unable to effectively perceive the change of scale factor, resulting in limited generalization performance on multi-scale SR tasks. Moreover, the existing continuous-scale upsampling modules do not make…
The recent success of implicit neural scene representations has presented a viable new method for how we capture and store 3D scenes. Unlike conventional 3D representations, such as point clouds, which explicitly store scene properties in discrete, localized units, these implicit representations encode a scene in the weights of a neural network which can be queried at any coordinate to produce these same scene properties. Thus far, implicit representations have primarily been optimized to estimate only the appearance and/or 3D geometry information in a scene. We take the next step and demonstr…
Learning scene flow from a monocular camera still remains a challenging task due to its ill-posedness as well as lack of annotated data. Self-supervised methods demonstrate learning scene flow estimation from unlabeled data, yet their accuracy lags behind (semi-)supervised methods. In this paper, we introduce a self-supervised monocular scene flow method that substantially improves the accuracy over the previous approaches. Based on RAFT, a state-of-the-art optical flow model, we design a new decoder to iteratively update 3D motion fields and disparity maps simultaneously. Furthermore, we prop…

We propose Self-Supervised Implicit Attention (SSIA), a new approach that adaptively guides deep neural network models to gain attention by exploiting the properties of the models themselves. SSIA is a novel attention mechanism that does not require any extra parameters, computation, or memory access costs during inference, which is in contrast to existing attention mechanism. In short, by considering attention weights as higher-level semantic information, we reconsidered the implementation of existing attention mechanisms and further propose generating supervisory signals from higher network …
