Recently, a $γγ$ collider based on the existing 17.5 GeV linac of the European XFEL has been proposed. High-energy photons will be generated by Compton scattering of laser photons with a wavelength of 0.5-1 $μ$m on electrons. Such a photon collider covers the range of invariant masses $W_{γγ} <12$ GeV. The physics program includes spectroscopy of $\mathit C$-even resonances ($c$-, $b$-quarkonia, 4-quark states, glueballs) in various $J^P$ states. Variable circular and linear polarizations will help in determining the quantum numbers. In this paper, we present a summary of measured and predicted two-photon widths of various resonances in the mass region 3-12 GeV and investigate the experimental possibility of observing these heavy two-photon resonances under the conditions of a large multi-hadron background. Registration of all final particles is assumed. The minimum values of $Γ_{γγ}(W)$ are obtained at which resonances can be detected at a $5σ$ confidence level in one year of operation.
A linear electron-positron collider operating at TeV scale energies will provide high precision measurements and allow, for example, precision studies of the Higgs boson as well as searches for physics beyond the standard model. A future linear collider should produce collisions at high energy, with high luminosity and with a good wall plug to beam power transfer efficiency. The luminosity per power consumed is a key metric that can be used to compare linear collider concepts. The plasma wakefield accelerator has demonstrated high-gradient, high-efficiency acceleration of an electron beam, and…
Vector-boson scattering (VBS) processes provide particularly promising means for probing the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking and to search for new physics in the weak sector. In the environment of a future proton-proton collider operating at a center-of-mass energy of 100 TeV, unprecedented opportunities arise for the investigation of this important class of reactions. We highlight the prominent features of VBS processes in this energy regime and discuss how the VBS signal can be isolated in the presence of a priori large QCD backgrounds. We find excellent opportunities for the anal…
We describe various studies relevant for top physics at future circular collider projects currently under discussion. We show how highly-massive top-antitop systems produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 100 TeV could be observed and employed for constraining top dipole moments, investigate the reach of future proton-proton and electron-positron machines to top flavor-changing neutral interactions, and discuss top parton densities.
This report summarizes the findings of the AF5 Topical Subgroup to Snowmass 2021, which investigated accelerators for rare processes and physics beyond colliders. The report focuses primarily on opportunities for dark sector searches and the need for coordinated development of the Fermilab experimental program for PIP-II and beyond. In addition, a number of other physics opportunities are cataloged and suggestions for synergistic R & D opportunities with various areas of technological development are discussed.
Exciting new scientific opportunities are presented for the PANDA detector at the High Energy Storage Ring in the redefined $\bar{\text{p}} \text{p}(A)$ collider mode, HESR-C, at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Europe. The high luminosity, $L \sim 10^{31}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$, and a wide range of intermediate and high energies, $\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}}$ up to 30 GeV for $\bar{\text{p}} \text{p}(A)$ collisions will allow to explore a wide range of exciting topics in QCD, including the study of the production of excited open charm and bottom states, nuclear bound states contai…
Over the last 20+ years, experimentalists have presented tantalizing hints of physics beyond the standard model, but nothing definitive. With the wealth of data from experiments, in particular the collider experiments, it is imperative that the community leave no reasonable model untested and no search unsought. Open datasets from particle physics experiments provide a relatively new and exciting opportunity to extend the reach of these searches by bringing in additional personpower in the form of the theory community. Analysis of these datasets also provides the opportunity for an increased i…
Calorimeters will provide critical measurements at future collider detectors. As the traditional challenge of high dynamic range, high precision, and high readout rates for signal amplitudes is compounded by increasing granularity and precision timing the readout systems will become increasingly complex. This white paper reviews the challenges and opportunities in calorimeter readout at future collider detectors.
In this note, I will review the opportunities offered by the hint of a new resonance observed at LHC for future e+e- TeV linear collider (LC) projects. This discussion is mainly influenced by two specific scenarios of physics which assume either a (pseudo-)scalar or a tensor resonance, but these estimates can be used in most scenarios. I envisage either a photon collider, which has a guaranteed signal with the LHC observation, or a standard e+e- collider, more straightforward to implement. After a detailed study of the heavy graviton scenario, I conclude that at a TeV LC, high accuracy measure…
The Large Hadron-Electron Collider (LHeC) will operate at $\sqrt{s}$ = 1.2 TeV and accumulate about 1/ab of integrated electron-proton luminosity. Novel studies of high energy photon-photon interactions at the LHeC, at the $γγ$ center-of-mass energy up to 1 TeV, will open new frontiers in the electroweak physics as well as in searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. Despite a very high $ep$ luminosity, the experimental conditions will be very favorable at the LHeC - a negligible event pileup will allow for unique studies of a number of processes involving the exclusive production via ph…

Long-lived particles (LLPs) are highly motivated signals of physics Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) with great discovery potential and unique experimental challenges. The LLP search programme made great advances during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), but many important regions of signal space remain unexplored. Dedicated triggers are crucial to improve the potential of LLP searches, and their development and expansion is necessary for the full exploitation of the new data. The public discussion of triggers has therefore been a relevant theme in the recent LLP literature, in the meeti…
While the QCD axion is often considered to be necessarily light ($\lesssim$ eV), recent work has opened a viable and interesting parameter space for heavy axions, which solve both the Strong CP and the axion Quality Problems. These well-motivated heavy axions, as well as the generic axion-like-particles, call for explorations in the GeV mass realm at collider and beam dump environments. The primary upcoming neutrino experiment, Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), is simultaneously also a powerful beam dump experiment, enabled by its multipurpose Near Detector (ND) complex. In this stu…
An electron ion collider has been proposed in China (EicC). It is anticipated that the facility would provide polarised electrons, protons and ion beams, in collisions with large centre-of-mass energy. This discussion highlights its potential to address issues that are central to understanding the emergence of mass within the Standard Model, using examples that range from the exploration of light-meson structure, through measurements of near-threshold heavy-quarkonia production, and on to studies of the spectrum of exotic hadrons.
Searching for pseudo-Nambu--Goldstone bosons (pNGBs) in weak-coupling domains is crucial for understanding the dark components in the universe. We propose searching for pNGBs coupled to two photons in the mass range from 0.1~eV to 10~keV. This could provide opportunities to test string-theory-based pNGBs beyond the GUT scale $M \sim 10^{16}$~GeV included in the weak coupling proportional to $M^{-1}$. We provide formulae that are applicable to photon--photon scattering via a pNGB resonance exchange with a stimulation process in an asymmetric head-on photon--photon collider by mixing three laser…

This report summarises the physics opportunities for the study of Higgs bosons and the dynamics of electroweak symmetry breaking at the 100 TeV pp collider.
In the path towards a muon collider with center of mass energy of 10 TeV or more, a stage at 3 TeV emerges as an appealing option. Reviewing the physics potential of such muon collider is the main purpose of this document. In order to outline the progression of the physics performances across the stages, a few sensitivity projections for higher energy are also presented. There are many opportunities for probing new physics at a 3 TeV muon collider. Some of them are in common with the extensively documented physics case of the CLIC 3 TeV energy stage, and include measuring the Higgs trilinear c…
A program to build a lepton-collider Higgs factory, to precisely measure the couplings of the Higgs boson to other particles, followed by a higher energy run to establish the Higgs self-coupling and expand the new physics reach, is widely recognized as a primary focus of modern particle physics. We propose a strategy that focuses on a new technology and preliminary estimates suggest that can lead to a compact, affordable machine. New technology investigations will provide much needed enthusiasm for our field, resulting in trained workforce. This cost-effective, compact design, with technologie…

In this contribution we present opportunities to address questions about the origin of mass and spin, probe the existence and nature of the LHCb pentaquark state, and probe the color Van der Waal forces among two color neutral hadrons. The key reaction is elastic production of heavy quarkonia (J/psi and Upsilon) on the nucleon from threshold to large nucleon-quarkonium invariant masses. This is possible when combining the energy range of two high luminosity facilities, Jefferson Lab 12 GeV and an electron ion collider (EIC).
We present physics opportunities and topics with the $s\bar{s}$ states (strangeonia) that can be studied with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. Though the $ϕ$ and $η/η^\prime$ states have long been established experimentally, only a handful of strangeonia are well known, in contrast to the rich $c\bar{c}$ charmoium system. An overview of the $s\bar{s}$ states and their experimental status is presented in this paper. The BESIII experiment has collected the world's largest samples of $J/ψ$, $ψ(2S)$, $ψ(3770)$, and direct $e^+e^-$ annihilations at energies below the $J/ψ$ and …
