We study steady axisymmetric water waves with general vorticity and swirl, subject to the influence of surface tension. This can be formulated as an elliptic free boundary problem in terms of Stokes' stream function. A change of variables allows us to overcome the generic coordinate-induced singularities and to cast the problem in the form "identity plus compact", which is amenable to Rabinowitz' global bifurcation theorem, while no restrictions regarding the absence of stagnation points in the flow have to be made. Within the scope of this new formulation, local and global solution curves, bifurcating from laminar flows with a flat surface, are constructed.
We consider the 3D axisymmetric Euler equations without swirl on some bounded axial symmetric domains. In this setting, well-posedness is well known due to the essentially 2D geometry. The quantity $ω^θ/r$ plays the role of vorticity in 2D. First, we prove that the gradient of $ω^θ/r$ can grow at most double exponentially with improving a priori bound close to the axis of symmetry. Next, on the unit ball, we show that at the boundary, one can achieve double exponential growth of the gradient of $ω^θ/r$.
We study the vanishing viscosity limit for the three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in terms of the relative vorticity in the setting of axisymmetric velocity fields without swirl. We show that the weak convergence of relative vorticity to a renormalized solution of the Euler equations, established by Nobili and Seis, can be upgraded to strong convergence.
The aim of this paper is to prove the existence of gravity-capillary Crapper waves with the presence of vorticity. In particular, we consider a concentrated vorticity: point vortex and vortex patch. We show that for small gravity and small vorticity it is possible to demonstrate that the waves are overhanging.
We study the long-time behaviour of axisymmetric solutions without swirl for the threedimensional Navier-Stokes equations in the whole space. Assuming that the initial vorticity is sufficiently localised, we compute explicitly the leading terms in the asymptotic expansion of the solution, both for the vorticity and the velocity field. In particular, we identify optimal temporal decay rates depending on the spatial localisation of the initial data. Our approach relies on accurate $L^p$-$L^q$ estimates for the linearised evolution equation and its Taylor expansion in self-similar variables.
Global existence of a weak solution of the incompressible Euler equations with helical symmetry and $L^p$ vorticity

We consider a multi-fluid system with several free interfaces. For this system we prove existence of three-dimensional steady gravity-capillary waves with non-zero vorticity. We obtain non-zero vorticity by prescribing the relative velocity fields to be Beltrami fields, for which the vorticity and velocity are parallel. The main result is a multi-parameter bifurcation result for small amplitude waves given in two variants: a first theorem guaranteeing existence under some general parameter assumptions; and a second specific but less exhaustive theorem, for which the assumptions may be explicit…
In this paper, we consider capillary-gravity waves propagating on the interface separating two fluids of finite depth and constant density. The flow in each layer is assumed to be incompressible and of constant vorticity. We prove the existence of small-amplitude solitary wave solutions to this system in the strong surface tension regime via a spatial dynamics approach. We then use a variant of the classical Grillakis--Shatah--Strauss (GSS) method to study the orbital stability/instability of these waves. We find an explicit function of the parameters (Froude number, Bond number, and the depth…
We study the asymptotic behavior of axisymmetric solutions with no swirl to the steady Navier-Stokes equations in the outside of the cylinder. We prove an a priori decay estimate of the vorticity under the assumption that the velocity has generalized finite Dirichlet integral. As an application, we obtain a Liouville-type theorem.
Axially symmetric solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations in a bounded cylinder are considered. On the boundary the normal component of the velocity and he angular components of the velocity and vorticity are assumed to vanish. If the norm of the initial swirl is sufficiently small, then the regularity of axially symmetric, weak solutions is shown. The key tool is a new estimate for the stream function in certain weighted Sobolev spaces.
We prove an almost global in time existence result of small amplitude space periodic solutions of the 1D gravity-capillary water waves equations with constant vorticity. The result holds for any value of gravity, vorticity and depth and any surface tension belonging to a full measure set. The proof demands a Hamiltonian paradifferential Birkhoff normal form reduction for quasi-linear PDEs in presence of resonant wave interactions: the normal form may be not integrable but it preserves the Sobolev norms thanks to its Hamiltonian nature. A major difficulty is that usual paradifferential calculus…
We consider a family of weights which permit to generalize the Leray procedure to obtain weak suitable solutions of the 3D incom-pressible Navier-Stokes equations with initial data in weighted L 2 spaces. Our principal result concerns the existence of regular global solutions when the initial velocity is an axisymmetric vector field without swirl such that both the initial velocity and its vorticity belong to L 2 ((1 + r 2) -- $γ$ 2 dx), with r = x 2 1 + x 2 2 and $γ$ $\in$ (0, 2).

We prove the first bifurcation result of time quasi-periodic traveling waves solutions for space periodic water waves with vorticity. In particular we prove existence of small amplitude time quasi-periodic solutions of the gravity-capillary water waves equations with constant vorticity, for a bidimensional fluid over a flat bottom delimited by a space-periodic free interface. These quasi-periodic solutions exist for all the values of depth, gravity and vorticity, and restricting the surface tension to a Borel set of asymptotically full Lebesgue measure.
Using numerical simulations of the axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations with swirl on a no-slip flat boundary, Hsu-Notsu-Yoneda [J. Fluid Mech. 2016] observed the creation of a high-vorticity region on the boundary near the axis of symmetry. In this paper, using a differential geometric approach, we prove that such flows indeed have a destabilizing effect, which is formulated in terms of a lower bound on the $L^\infty$-norm of derivatives of the velocity field on the boundary.
We show the existence of periodic traveling waves at the free surface of a two dimensional, infinitely deep, and constant vorticity flow, under gravity, whose profiles are overhanging, including one which intersects itself to enclose a bubble of air. Numerical evidence has long suggested such overhanging and touching waves, but a rigorous proof has been elusive. Crapper's celebrated capillary waves in an irrotational flow have recently been shown to yield an exact solution to the problem for zero gravity, and our proof uses the implicit function theorem to construct nearby solutions for weak g…
We study stationary capillary-gravity waves in a two-dimensional body of water that rests above a flat ocean bed and below vacuum. This system is described by the Euler equations with a free surface. Our main result states that there exist large families of such waves that carry finite energy and exhibit an exponentially localized distribution of (nontrivial) vorticity. This is accomplished by combining ideas drawn from the theory of spike-layer solutions to singularly perturbed elliptic equations, with techniques from the study of steady solutions of the water wave problem.
We prove the existence of three-dimensional steady gravity-capillary waves with vorticity on water of finite depth. The waves are periodic with respect to a given two-dimensional lattice and the relative velocity field is a Beltrami field, meaning that the vorticity is collinear to the velocity. The existence theory is based on multi-parameter bifurcation theory.
The purpose of this paper is to study the incompressible non-resistive MHD equations in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We establish the global well-posedness of classical solutions if the initial data is axially symmetric and the swirl components of the velocity and magnetic vorticity vanish. In particular, the special axially symmetric initial data can be arbitrarily large and satisfy low regularity assumptions.
In this paper, we consider the global well-posedness of the incompressible Hall-MHD equations in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We prove that the solution of this system is globally regular if the initial data is axisymmetric and the swirl components of the velocity and magnetic vorticity are trivial. It should be pointed out that the initial data without any smallness and in low regularity spaces. This improves a previous result established in \cite{Fan2013}.
We consider axisymmetric Euler flows without swirl in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ with $d\geq 4$, for which the global regularity of smooth solutions is an open problem. When $d = 4$, we obtain global regularity under the assumption that the initial vorticity satisfies some decay at infinity and is vanishing at the axis. Assuming further that the initial vorticity is of one sign guarantees global regularity for $d\leq 7$.
