Eulerian-Dowling Polynomials as Moments, Using Riordan Arrays

Using the theory of exponential Riordan arrays, we show that the Eulerian-Dowling polynomials are moments for a paramaterized family of orthogonal polynomials. In addition, we show that the related Dowling and the Tanny-Dowling polynomials are also moments for appropriate families of orthogonal polynomials. We provide continued fraction generating functions and Hankel transforms for these polynomials.

Eulerian polynomials as moments, via exponential Riordan arrays

Using the theory of exponential Riordan arrays and orthogonal polynomials, we demonstrate that the "descending power" Eulerian polynomials, and their once shifted sequence, are moment sequences for simple families of orthogonal polynomials, which we characterize in terms of their three-term recurrence. We obtain the generating functions of the polynomial sequences in terms of continued fractions, and we also calculate their Hankel transforms.

A determinant identity for moments of orthogonal polynomials that implies Uvarov's formula for the orthogonal polynomials of rationally related densities

Let $p_n(x)$, $n=0,1,\dots$, be the orthogonal polynomials with respect to a given density $dμ(x)$. Furthermore, let $dν(x)$ be a density which arises from $dμ(x)$ by multiplication by a rational function in $x$. We prove a formula that expresses the Hankel determinants of moments of $dν(x)$ in terms of a determinant involving the orthogonal polynomials $p_n(x)$ and associated functions $q_n(x)=\int p_n(u) \,dμ(u)/(x-u)$. Almost-Orthogonal Bases for Inner Product Polynomials

In this paper, we consider low-degree polynomials of inner products between a collection of random vectors. We give an almost orthogonal basis for this vector space of polynomials when the random vectors are Gaussian, spherical, or Boolean. In all three cases, our basis admits an interesting combinatorial description based on the topology of the underlying graph of inner products. On the moments of the moments of the characteristic polynomials of Haar distributed symplectic and orthogonal matrices

We establish formulae for the moments of the moments of the characteristic polynomials of random orthogonal and symplectic matrices in terms of certain lattice point count problems. This allows us to establish asymptotic formulae when the matrix-size tends to infinity in terms of the volumes of certain regions involving continuous Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns with constraints. Lower order terms for the moments of symplectic and orthogonal families of $L$-functions

We derive formulas for the terms in the conjectured asymptotic expansions of the moments, at the central point, of quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functions, $L(1/2,χ_d)$, and also of the $L$-functions associated to quadratic twists of an elliptic curve over $\Q$. In so doing, we are led to study determinants of binomial coefficients of the form $\det (\binom{2k-i-λ_{k-i+1}}{2k-2j})$.
