A system's configurational state can be manipulated using dynamic variation of control parameters, such as temperature, pressure, or magnetic field; for finite-duration driving, excess work is required above the equilibrium free-energy change. Minimum-work protocols in multidimensional control-parameter space have potential to significantly reduce work relative to one-dimensional control. By numerically minimizing a linear-response approximation to the excess work, we design protocols in control-parameter spaces of a 2D Ising model that efficiently drive the system from the all-down to all-up configuration. We find that such designed multidimensional protocols take advantage of more flexible control to avoid control-parameter regions of high system resistance, heterogeneously input and extract work to make use of system relaxation, and flatten the energy landscape, making accessible many configurations that would otherwise have prohibitively high energy and thus decreasing spin correlations. Relative to one-dimensional protocols, this speeds up the rate-limiting spin-inversion reaction, thereby keeping the system significantly closer to equilibrium for a wide range of protocol durations, and significantly reducing resistance and hence work.
We consider a periodic Ising chain with nearest-neighbour and $r$-th neighbour interaction and quench it from infinite temperature to zero temperature. The persistence probability $P(t)$, measured as the probability that a spin remains unflipped upto time $t$, is studied by computer simulation for suitable values of $r$. We observe that as time progresses, $P(t)$ first decays as $t^{-0.22}$ (-the {\em first} regime), then the $P(t)-t$ curve has a small slope (in log-log scale) for some time (-the {\em second} regime) and at last it decays nearly as $t^{-3/8}$ (-the {\em third} regime). We argu…
In this paper a new approach to solving the Ising-Onsager problem in external magnetic field is investigated. The expression for free energy on one Ising spin in external field both for the twodimensional and threedimensional Ising model with interaction of the nearest neighbors are derived. The representations of free energy being expressed by multidimensional integrals of Gauss type with the appropriate dimensionality are shown. Possibility of calculating the integrals and the critical indices on the base of the derived representations for free energy is investigated.
A generalization of Gauss's principle is used to derive the error laws corresponding to Types II and VII distributions in Pearson's classification scheme. Student's $r$-pdf (Type II) governs the distribution of the internal energy of a uniform, linear chain, Ising model, while analytic continuation of the uniform exchange energy converts it into a Student $t$-density (Type VII) for the position of a random walk in a single spatial dimension. Higher dimensional spaces, corresponding to larger degrees of freedom and generalizations to multidimensional Student $r$- and $t$-densities, are obtained…
A system can be driven between metastable configurations by a time-dependent driving protocol, which uses external control parameters to change the potential energy of the system. Here we investigate the correspondence between driving protocols that are designed to minimize work and the spontaneous transition paths of the system in the absence of driving. We study the spin-inversion reaction in a 2D Ising model, quantifying the timing of each spin flip and heat flow to the system during both a minimum-work protocol and a spontaneous transition. The general order of spin flips during the transi…
We investigate the relation between the entanglement properties of a quantum state and its energy for macroscopic spin models. To this aim, we develop a general method to compute energy bounds for states without certain forms of multipartite entanglement. Violation of these bounds implies the presence of these types of multipartite entanglement. As examples, we investigate the Heisenberg model in different dimensions, the Ising model and the XX model in the presence of a magnetic field. Finally, by studying the Heisenberg model on a triangular lattice, we demonstrate that our techniques can be…
In the presented article we present an algorithm for the computation of ground state spin configurations for the 2d random bond Ising model on planar triangular lattice graphs. Therefore, it is explained how the respective ground state problem can be mapped to an auxiliary minimum-weight perfect matching problem, solvable in polynomial time. Consequently, the ground state properties as well as minimum-energy domain wall (MEDW) excitations for very large 2d systems, e.g. lattice graphs with up to N=384x384 spins, can be analyzed very fast. Here, we investigate the critical behavior of the corre…
The two dimensional ferromagnetic Ising model in the presence of a propagating magnetic field wave (with well defined frequency and wavelength) is studied by Mone Carlo simulation. This study differs from all of the earlier studies done so far, where the oscillating magnetic field was considered to be uniform in space. The time average magnetisation over a full cycle (the time period) of the propagating magnetic field acts as the dynamic order parameter. The dynamical phase transition is observed. The temperature variation of the dynamic order parameter, the mean square deviation of the dynami…
The three-dimensional bimodal random-field Ising model is studied via a new finite temperature numerical approach. The methods of Wang-Landau sampling and broad histogram are implemented in a unified algorithm by using the N-fold version of the Wang-Landau algorithm. The simulations are performed in dominant energy subspaces, determined by the recently developed critical minimum energy subspace technique. The random fields are obtained from a bimodal distribution, that is we consider the discrete $(\pmΔ)$ case and the model is studied on cubic lattices with sizes $4\leq L \leq 20$. In order to…
A bond-disordered two-dimensional Ising model is used to simulate Kauzmann's mechanism of vitrification in liquids, by a Glauber Monte Carlo simulation. The rearrangement of configurations is achieved by allowing impurity bonds to hop to nearest neighbors at the same rate as the spins flip. For slow cooling, the theoretical minimum energy configuration is approached, characterized by an amorphous distribution of locally optimally arranged impurity bonds. Rapid cooling to low temperatures regularly finds bond configurations of higher energy, which are both a priori rare and severely restrictive…
We discuss the recent application to strongly disordered systems of the Critical Minimum Energy Subspace (CMES) method, used to limit the energy subspace of the Wang-Landau sampling. We compare with our results on the 3D Random Field Ising Model obtained by a multi-range Wang-Landau simulation in the whole energy range. We point out at some problems that may arise when applying the CMES scheme to models having a complex free energy landscape. PACS numbers: 02.70.Tt,02.70.Rr,05.50.+q, 64.60.Cn, 64.60.Fr, 75.10.Hk
The three-dimensional bimodal random-field Ising model is investigated using the N-fold version of the Wang-Landau algorithm. The essential energy subspaces are determined by the recently developed critical minimum energy subspace technique, and two implementations of this scheme are utilized. The random fields are obtained from a bimodal discrete $(\pmΔ)$ distribution, and we study the model for various values of the disorder strength $Δ$, $Δ=0.5, 1, 1.5$ and 2, on cubic lattices with linear sizes $L=4-24$. We extract information for the probability distributions of the specific heat peaks ov…
The Ising one-dimensional (1D) chain with spin $S=1/2$ and magnetoelastic interactions is studied with the lattice contribution included in the form of elastic interaction and thermal vibrations simultaneously taken into account. The magnetic energy term and the elastic (static) energy term based on the Morse potential are calculated exactly. The vibrational energy is calculated in the Debye approximation, in which the anharmonicity is introduced by the Gr{ü}neisen parameter. The total Gibbs potential, including both the magnetic field, as well as the external force term, is constructed and fr…
The mixed spin-(1/2,1) Ising chain with axial and rhombic zero-field splitting parameters in a presence of the longitudinal magnetic field is exactly solved within the framework of decoration-iteration transformation and transfer-matrix method. Our particular emphasis is laid on an investigation of the influence of the rhombic term, which is responsible for an onset of quantum entanglement between two magnetic states S_k^z = 1 and -1 of the spin-1 atoms. It is shown that the rhombic term gradually destroys a classical ferrimagnetic order in the ground state and simultaneously causes diversity …
