There are two strong arguments in favor of vector-like leptons and quarks: Flavor Democracy call for them, and E6 GUT predicts existence of iso-singlet quarks and iso-doublet leptons. Vector-like quarks (VLQ) are extensively searched by ATLAS and CMS collaborations, but this is not the case for vector-like leptons (VLL), while they have actually similar status from phenomenology viewpoint. In this study we argue that vector-like leptons should be included into the new physics search programs of energy-frontier colliders. We consider production of vector-like partners of the first SM family leptons at the HL-LHC, HE-LHC, FCC, ILC, CLIC, Muon Collider, as well as, at ep and μ-p colliders. As for decays of vector-like leptons, we present branching ratios formulas to different channels for the most general case. Since there are many different production and decay channels for charged and neutral vector-like leptons, relevant studies should be done systematically. We invite the High Energy Physics community (both experimenters and phenomenologists) to actively participate in research on this topic.
We give a simple physical argument to understand the observation that the angular distribution of the top decay lepton depends only on the polarisation of the top and is independent of any anomalous $tbW$ coupling to linear order.
Experiments searching for Heavy Neutral Leptons (HNLs) typically interpret their results within simplified models consisting of a single HNL coupled to a single lepton flavor. However, any model which aims to describe neutrino oscillations necessarily features more than one HNL, coupled to several flavors. As we show in this work, the reinterpretation of the results of experimental searches in terms of realistic models is a non-trivial task. We perform a detailed reinterpretation of the latest ATLAS search for prompt HNLs in W decays within a minimal low-scale seesaw with two HNLs. We show tha…
A model of spin-3/2 vector-like leptons is introduced, which serve as an alternative probe of possible lepton compositeness. Possible signatures at the Large Hadron Collider are explored, and current data are used to constrain the masses of the hypothetical new leptons.
Flavor Democracy Hypothesis favors existence of iso-singlet quarks and vector-like charged leptons. Their observation at future colliders could shed light on the nature of mass and mixing patterns of known leptons and quarks, as well as Higgs boson itself. Vector-like quarks are extensively searched by ATLAS and CMS collaborations. Unfortunately, this is not the case for vector-like leptons, while they have actually similar status from phenomenology viewpoint. We argue that vector-like charged leptons should be included into the new physics search programs of future energy frontier colliders. …
A beam dump experiment can be seamlessly added to the {proposed} International Linear Collider (ILC) program because the high energy electron beam should be dumped after the collision point. The ILC beam dump experiment will provide an excellent opportunity to search for new long-lived particles. Since many of them can be produced by a rare decay of standard model particles, we evaluate spectra of the mesons and $τ$ lepton at the decay based on the PHITS and PYTHIA8 simulations. As a motivated physics case, we study the projected sensitivity of heavy neutral leptons at the ILC beam dump experi…
In this work I present the interpretation of the ATLAS search of same-sign lepton production in association with $b$-jets in the context of the 4-top quark signal from sgluon decays. I show that using just 3.2/fb data sample from Run 2 the exclusion limit is already competitive with the Run 1 one. Public data allow to exclude sgluons with masses up to 0.95 TeV. Prospects for the total Run 2 integrated luminosity of 100/fb are briefly discussed.
We study lepton violating Higgs (HLFV) decays, first from the effective field theory (EFT) point of view, and then analysing the different high-energy realizations of the operators of the EFT, highlighting the most promising models. We argue why two Higgs doublet models can have a $\mathrm{BR}(h\rightarrow τμ)\sim 0.01$, and why this rate is suppressed in all other realizations including vector-like leptons. We further discuss HLFV in the context of neutrino mass models: in most cases it is generated at one loop giving always $\mathrm{BR}(h\rightarrow τμ) < 10^{-4}$ and typically much less, wh…
We investigate simplified models involving an inert scalar triplet and vector-like leptons that can account for the muon $g-2$ anomaly. These simplified scenarios are embedded in a model that features W' and Z' bosons, which are subject to stringent collider bounds. The constraints coming from the muon $g-2$ anomaly are put into perspective with collider bounds, as well as bounds coming from lepton flavor violation searches. The region of parameter space that explains the $g-2$ anomaly is shown to be within reach of lepton flavor violation probes and future colliders such as HL-LHC and HE-LHC.
We consider the U(1)$_X$ model, which can induce the flavor violating couplings through vectorlike fermions and address the observed rare $B$-meson decay anomalies. To be consistent with all the other observations, both the associated gauge boson mass and the vectorlike lepton mass are bounded from above. We argue that the search for new vectorlike leptons is promising and provides a complement to the $Z'$ search. A detailed collider analysis shows that the model with the vectorlike lepton mass up to 1000 GeV could be tested at the future LHC.
A maverick top partner model, decaying to a dark photon was suggested. The dark photon decays to two overlapping electrons for dark photon masses of $\approx 100$ GeV, and results in a so-called lepton-jet. The event includes a top quark as well, which results in events with two boosted objects, one heavy and the other light. We propose a search strategy exploiting the unique signal topology. We show that for a set of kinematic selections, both in hadronic and leptonic decay channel of the SM top quark, almost all background can be eliminated, leaving enough signal events up to top partner mas…
The observation of lepton flavor violation indicates new physics beyond the Standard Model. Lepton colliders are ideal facilities to probe charged lepton flavor violation (CLFV) signals induced by new physics at high energy. In this work we perform a comprehensive study of the sensitivity of future lepton colliders to charged lepton flavor violation. We consider the most general renormalizable Lagrangian coupling two leptons to new bosonic particles, involving both $ΔL=0$ and $ΔL=2$ interactions. The CLFV processes are introduced by the exchange of off-shell new particles at tree-level. We fin…
We examine lepton flavor violating (LFV) interactions for heavy right-handed neutrinos that exist in most of the standard model extensions that address dark matter (DM) and neutrino mass at the loop level. In order to probe the collider effect of these LFV interactions, we impose the assumption that the model parameters give the right values of the DM relic density and fulfill the constraints from the LFV processes $\ell_α\rightarrow\ell_βγ$ and $\ell_α\rightarrow3\ell_β$. We also investigate the possibility of probing these interactions, and hence the right-handed neutrino, at leptonic collid…
Lepton flavor violating (LFV) processes via four-Fermi contact interactions at future International Linear Collider (ILC) are studied. The effective Lagrangian is composed of six-operators, and the LFV effects on both $e^+ e^- \to e^+ \ell^-$ and $e^- e^- \to e^- \ell^-$ ($\ell=μ$ or $τ$) processes can be parametrized by three parameters. Taking account of previous experimental results of LFV processes $μ\to 3e$ and $τ\to 3e$, we find that the upper limits on the LFV parameters for $\ell=τ$ could be improved at the ILC experiment using the polarized electron beam. The improvement of the upper …
We investigate the sensitivity of future lepton colliders to displaced vertices from the decays of long-lived heavy (almost sterile) neutrinos with electroweak scale masses and detectable time of flight. As future lepton colliders we consider the FCC-ee, the CEPC, and the ILC, searching at the Z-pole and at the center-of-mass energies of 240, 350 and 500 GeV. For a realistic discussion of the detector response to the displaced vertex signal and the Standard Model background we consider the ILC's Silicon Detector (SiD) as benchmark for the future lepton collider detectors. We find that displace…
The tau lepton plays important role in the correlation between the low-energy neutrino oscillation data and the lepton flavor structure in heavy neutrino decay. We investigate the lepton flavor signatures with tau lepton at hadron collider through lepton number violating (LNV) processes. In the Type I Seesaw with U$(1)_{\rm B-L}$ extension, we study the pair production of heavy neutrinos via a $Z'$ resonance. We present a detailed assessment of the search sensitivity to the channels with tau lepton in the subsequent decay of heavy neutrinos. For the benchmark model with $Z'$ only coupled to th…
Electron proton (ep) colliders could provide particle collisions at TeV energies with large data rates while maintaining the clean and pile~up-free environment of lepton colliders, which makes them very attractive for heavy neutrino searches. Heavy (mainly sterile) neutrinos with masses around the electroweak scale are proposed in low scale seesaw models for neutrino mass generation. In this paper, we analyse two of the most promising signatures of heavy neutrinos at ep colliders, the lepton-flavour violating (LFV) lepton-trijet signature and the displaced vertex signature. In the considered b…
We study the $S_3$-symmetric two Higgs doublet model by adding two generations of vector like leptons (VLL) which are odd under a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry. The lightest neutral component of the VLL acts as a dark matter (DM) whereas the full VLL set belongs to a dark sector with no mixings allowed with the standard model fermions. We analyse the model in light of dark matter and collider searches. We show that the DM is compatible with the current relic density data as well as satisfying all direct and indirect dark matter search constraints. We choose some representative points in the model pa…
Motivated by models proposed to explain the Standard Model anomalies, and the unprecedented $τ^{+}τ^{-}$ data to be collected by the Belle~II experiment during the next years, we study the kinematics of tau pair decays and propose a new method to search for lepton flavor violating processes in tau lepton decays to invisible beyond Standard Model particles, such as $τ\to \ell α$, where $\ell$ is either an electron or a muon, and $α$ is a massive particle that escapes undetected. The new method improves by one order of magnitude the expected upper limit on the $τ\to \ell α$ production in 3x1 pro…
