Spectral compressive imaging (SCI) is able to encode the high-dimensional hyperspectral image to a 2D measurement, and then uses algorithms to reconstruct the spatio-spectral data-cube. At present, the main bottleneck of SCI is the reconstruction algorithm, and the state-of-the-art (SOTA) reconstruction methods generally face the problem of long reconstruction time and/or poor detail recovery. In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid network module, namely CCoT (Convolution and Contextual Transformer) block, which can acquire the inductive bias ability of convolution and the powerful modeling ability of transformer simultaneously, and is conducive to improving the quality of reconstruction to restore fine details. We integrate the proposed CCoT block into deep unfolding framework based on the generalized alternating projection algorithm, and further propose the GAP-CCoT network. Through the experiments of extensive synthetic and real data, our proposed model achieves higher reconstruction quality ($>$2dB in PSNR on simulated benchmark datasets) and shorter running time than existing SOTA algorithms by a large margin. The code and models are publicly available at https://github.com/ucaswangls/GAP-CCoT.

Convolution neural networks (CNNs) have succeeded in compressive image sensing. However, due to the inductive bias of locality and weight sharing, the convolution operations demonstrate the intrinsic limitations in modeling the long-range dependency. Transformer, designed initially as a sequence-to-sequence model, excels at capturing global contexts due to the self-attention-based architectures even though it may be equipped with limited localization abilities. This paper proposes CSformer, a hybrid framework that integrates the advantages of leveraging both detailed spatial information from C…

Hyperspectral image classification (HIC) is an active research topic in remote sensing. Hyperspectral images typically generate large data cubes posing big challenges in data acquisition, storage, transmission and processing. To overcome these limitations, this paper develops a novel deep learning HIC approach based on compressive measurements of coded-aperture snapshot spectral imagers (CASSI), without reconstructing the complete hyperspectral data cube. A new kind of deep learning strategy, namely 3D coded convolutional neural network (3D-CCNN) is proposed to efficiently solve for the classi…
Convolutional layers are a major driving force behind the successes of deep learning. Pointwise convolution (PWC) is a 1x1 convolutional filter that is primarily used for parameter reduction. However, the PWC ignores the spatial information around the points it is processing. This design is by choice, in order to reduce the overall parameters and computations. However, we hypothesize that this shortcoming of PWC has a significant impact on the network performance. We propose an alternative design for pointwise convolution, which uses spatial information from the input efficiently. Our design s…

Single-pixel imaging (SPI) is a novel imaging technique whose working principle is based on the compressive sensing (CS) theory. In SPI, data is obtained through a series of compressive measurements and the corresponding image is reconstructed. Typically, the reconstruction algorithm such as basis pursuit relies on the sparsity assumption in images. However, recent advances in deep learning have found its uses in reconstructing CS images. Despite showing a promising result in simulations, it is often unclear how such an algorithm can be implemented in an actual SPI setup. In this paper, we dem…
Dual-view snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) aims to capture videos from two field-of-views (FoVs) using a 2D sensor (detector) in a single snapshot, achieving joint FoV and temporal compressive sensing, and thus enjoying the advantages of low-bandwidth, low-power, and low-cost. However, it is challenging for existing model-based decoding algorithms to reconstruct each individual scene, which usually require exhaustive parameter tuning with extremely long running time for large scale data. In this paper, we propose an optical flow-aided recurrent neural network for dual video SCI systems, whic…

Deep convolutional neural networks have recently shown promising results in compressive spectral reconstruction. Previous methods, however, usually adopt a single mapping function for sparse representation. Considering that different regions have distinct characteristics, it is desirable to apply various mapping functions to adjust different regions' transformations dynamically. With this in mind, we first introduce a regional dynamic way of using Fast Iterative Shrinkage-Thresholding Algorithm (FISTA) to exploit regional characteristics and derive dynamic sparse representations. Then, we prop…

This paper introduces two acquisition device architectures for multispectral compressive imaging. Unlike most existing methods, the proposed computational imaging techniques do not include any dispersive element, as they use a dedicated sensor which integrates narrowband Fabry-Pérot spectral filters at the pixel level. The first scheme leverages joint inpainting and super-resolution to fill in those voxels that are missing due to the device's limited pixel count. The second scheme, in link with compressed sensing, introduces spatial random convolutions, but is more complex and may be affected …
Snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) encodes high-speed scene video into a snapshot measurement and then computationally makes reconstructions, allowing for efficient high-dimensional data acquisition. Numerous algorithms, ranging from regularization-based optimization and deep learning, are being investigated to improve reconstruction quality, but they are still limited by the ill-posed and information-deficient nature of the standard SCI paradigm. To overcome these drawbacks, we propose a new key frames assisted hybrid encoding paradigm for compressive video sensing, termed KH-CVS, that altern…

Hyperspectral imaging is an essential imaging modality for a wide range of applications, especially in remote sensing, agriculture, and medicine. Inspired by existing hyperspectral cameras that are either slow, expensive, or bulky, reconstructing hyperspectral images (HSIs) from a low-budget snapshot measurement has drawn wide attention. By mapping a truncated numerical optimization algorithm into a network with a fixed number of phases, recent deep unfolding networks (DUNs) for spectral snapshot compressive sensing (SCI) have achieved remarkable success. However, DUNs are far from reaching th…
In coded aperture snapshot spectral imaging (CASSI) system, the real-world hyperspectral image (HSI) can be reconstructed from the captured compressive image in a snapshot. Model-based HSI reconstruction methods employed hand-crafted priors to solve the reconstruction problem, but most of which achieved limited success due to the poor representation capability of these hand-crafted priors. Deep learning based methods learning the mappings between the compressive images and the HSIs directly achieved much better results. Yet, it is nontrivial to design a powerful deep network heuristically for …
Video snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) captures a sequence of video frames in a single shot using a 2D detector. The underlying principle is that during one exposure time, different masks are imposed on the high-speed scene to form a compressed measurement. With the knowledge of masks, optimization algorithms or deep learning methods are employed to reconstruct the desired high-speed video frames from this snapshot measurement. Unfortunately, though these methods can achieve decent results, the long running time of optimization algorithms or huge training memory occupation of deep networks s…
To capture high-speed videos using a two-dimensional detector, video snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) is a promising system, where the video frames are coded by different masks and then compressed to a snapshot measurement. Following this, efficient algorithms are desired to reconstruct the high-speed frames, where the state-of-the-art results are achieved by deep learning networks. However, these networks are usually trained for specific small-scale masks and often have high demands of training time and GPU memory, which are hence {\bf \em not flexible} to $i$) a new mask with the same size…
Video block compressive sensing has been studied for use in resource constrained scenarios, such as wireless sensor networks, but the approach still suffers from low performance and long reconstruction time. Inspired by classical distributed video coding, we design a lightweight encoder with computationally intensive operations, such as video frame interpolation, performed at the decoder. Straying from recent trends in training end-to-end neural networks, we propose two algorithms that leverage convolutional neural network components to reconstruct video with greatly reduced reconstruction tim…
The theory of compressed sensing (CS) has been successfully applied to image compression in the past few years, whose traditional iterative reconstruction algorithm is time-consuming. However, it has been reported deep learning-based CS reconstruction algorithms could greatly reduce the computational complexity. In this paper, we propose two efficient structures of cascaded reconstruction networks corresponding to two different sampling methods in CS process. The first reconstruction network is a compatibly sampling reconstruction network (CSRNet), which recovers an image from its compressivel…

Accurate airway extraction from computed tomography (CT) images is a critical step for planning navigation bronchoscopy and quantitative assessment of airway-related chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The existing methods are challenging to sufficiently segment the airway, especially the high-generation airway, with the constraint of the limited label and cannot meet the clinical use in COPD. We propose a novel two-stage 3D contextual transformer-based U-Net for airway segmentation using CT images. The method consists of two stages, performing initial and refined airway segmentation…
Coded aperture is a promising approach for capturing the 4-D light field (LF), in which the 4-D data are compressively modulated into 2-D coded measurements that are further decoded by reconstruction algorithms. The bottleneck lies in the reconstruction algorithms, resulting in rather limited reconstruction quality. To tackle this challenge, we propose a novel learning-based framework for the reconstruction of high-quality LFs from acquisitions via learned coded apertures. The proposed method incorporates the measurement observation into the deep learning framework elegantly to avoid relying e…
In this paper, a convolutional sparse coding method based on global structure characteristics and spectral correlation is proposed for the reconstruction of compressive spectral images. The spectral data is regarded as the convolution sum of the convolution kernel and the corresponding coefficients, using the convolution kernel operates the global image information, preserving the structure information of the spectral image in the spatial dimension. To take full exploration of the constraints between spectra, the coefficients corresponding to the convolution kernel are constrained by the L_(2,…
Deep learning models are state-of-the-art in compressive spectral imaging (CSI) recovery. These methods use a deep neural network (DNN) as an image generator to learn non-linear mapping from compressed measurements to the spectral image. For instance, the deep spectral prior approach uses a convolutional autoencoder network (CAE) in the optimization algorithm to recover the spectral image by using a non-linear representation. However, the CAE training is detached from the recovery problem, which does not guarantee optimal representation of the spectral images for the CSI problem. This work pro…

The morbidity of brain stroke increased rapidly in the past few years. To help specialists in lesion measurements and treatment planning, automatic segmentation methods are critically required for clinical practices. Recently, approaches based on deep learning and methods for contextual information extraction have served in many image segmentation tasks. However, their performances are limited due to the insufficient training of a large number of parameters, which sometimes fail in capturing long-range dependencies. To address these issues, we propose a depthwise separable convolution based X-…

SCI devices include two main parts: a hardware encoder and a software decoder. The hardware encoder typically consists of an (optical) imaging system designed to capture {compressed measurements}. The software decoder on the other hand refers to a reconstruction algorithm that retrieves the desired high-dimensional signal from those measurements. In this paper, using deep unfolding ideas, we propose an SCI recovery algorithm, namely GAP-net, which unfolds the general…

Currently, convolutional neural networks (CNN) (e.g., U-Net) have become the de facto standard and attained immense success in medical image segmentation. However, as a downside, CNN based methods are a double-edged sword as they fail to build long-range dependencies and global context connections due to the limited receptive field that stems from the intrinsic characteristics of the convolution operation. Hence, recent articles have exploited Transformer variants for medical image segmentation tasks which open up great opportunities due to their innate capability of capturing long-range corre…

Multi-organ segmentation is one of most successful applications of deep learning in medical image analysis. Deep convolutional neural nets (CNNs) have shown great promise in achieving clinically applicable image segmentation performance on CT or MRI images. State-of-the-art CNN segmentation models apply either 2D or 3D convolutions on input images, with pros and cons associated with each method: 2D convolution is fast, less memory-intensive but inadequate for extracting 3D contextual information from volumetric images, while the opposite is true for 3D convolution. To fit a 3D CNN model on CT …
