This paper explores topological complexity in the finite equivariant setting. We first define and study an equivariant version of Tanaka's combinatorial complexity for finite topological spaces. We explore the relationships between this invariant and several others already discussed in the literature: Farber's topological complexity, Tanaka's combinatorial complexity, and Colman-Grant's equivariant Lusternik-Schnirelmann category. We find bounds for equivariant combinatorial complexity and for the necessary lengths of equivariant combinatorial motion plannings. We show that the equivariant topological complexity of any finite $G$-space is equal to its equivariant combinatorial complexity.
We then adapt Gonzàlez's simplicial complexity to ordered and unordered $G$-simplicial complexes and explore its first properties. Lastly, we show that the equivariant topological complexity of the realization of any ordered $G$-simplicial complex is equal to the equivariant simplicial complexity.
We reexamine equivariant generalizations of the Lefschetz number and Reidemeister trace using categorical traces. This gives simple, conceptual descriptions of the invariants as well as direct comparisons to previously defined generalizations. These comparisons are illuminating applications of the additivity and multiplicativity of the categorical trace.
Torus orbifolds are topological generalization of symplectic toric orbifolds. We give a construction of smooth orbifolds with torus actions whose boundary is a disjoint union of torus orbifolds using toric topological method. As a result, we show that any orientable locally standard torus orbifold is equivariantly cobordant to some copies of orbifold complex projective spaces. We also discuss some further equivariant cobordism results including the cases when torus orbifolds are actually torus manifolds.
The aim of this article is to review different generalizations of the the notion of topological complexity to the equivariant setting. In particular, we review the relation (or non-relation) between these notions and the topological complexity of the quotient space and the topological complexity of the fixed point sets. We give examples of calculations and stress the question: When the action is free, do we recover the topological complexity of the quotient?
In this paper we study the topological invariant ${\sf {TC}}(X)$ reflecting the complexity of algorithms for autonomous robot motion. Here, $X$ stands for the configuration space of a system and ${\sf {TC}}(X)$ is, roughly, the minimal number of continuous rules which are needed to construct a motion planning algorithm in $X$. We focus on the case when the space $X$ is aspherical; then the number ${\sf TC}(X)$ depends only on the fundamental group $π=π_1(X)$ and we denote it ${\sf TC}(π)$. We prove that ${\sf TC}(π)$ can be characterised as the smallest integer $k$ such that the canonical $π\t…
We develop the rudiments of a theory of parametrized $\infty$-operads, including parametrized generalizations of monoidal envelopes, Day convolution, operadic left Kan extensions, results on limits and colimits of algebras, and the symmetric monoidal Yoneda embedding.
This paper provides a generalization of excision theorems in controlled algebra in the context of equivariant G-theory with fibred control and families of bounded actions. It also states and proves several characteristic features of this theory such as existence of the fibred assembly and the fibrewise trivialization.
Let $G$ be a compact, connected, and simply-connected Lie group viewed as a $G$-space via the conjugation action. The Freed-Hopkins-Teleman Theorem (FHT) asserts a canonical link between the equivariant twisted $K$-homology of $G$ and its Verlinde algebra. In this paper we give a generalization of FHT in the presence of a Real structure of $G$. Along the way we develop preliminary materials necessary for this generalization, which are of independent interest in their own right. These include the definitions of Real Dixmier-Douady bundles, the Real third cohomology group which is shown to class…
For positive integers $m$ and $s$, let $\mathbf{m}_s$ stand for the $s$-th tuple $(m,\ldots,m)$. We show that, for large enough $s$, the higher topological complexity $TC_s$ of an even dimensional real projective space $RP^m$ is characterized as the smallest positive integer $k=k(m,s)$ for which there is a $(\mathbb{Z}_2)^{s-1}$-equivariant map from Davis' projective product space $P_{\mathbf{m}_s}$ to the $(k+1)$-th join-power $((\mathbb{Z}_2)^{s-1})^{\ast(k+1)}$. This is a (partial) generalization of Farber-Tabachnikov-Yuzvinsky's work relating $TC_2$ to the immersion dimension of real proje…
Lazarev and Lieb showed that finitely many integrable functions from the unit interval to $\mathbb{C}$ can be simultaneously annihilated in the $L^2$ inner product by a smooth function to the unit circle. Here we answer a question of Lazarev and Lieb proving a generalization of their result by lower bounding the equivariant topology of the space of smooth circle-valued functions with a certain $W^{1,1}$-norm bound. Our proof uses a relaxed notion of motion planning algorithm that instead of contractibility yields a lower bound for the $\mathbb{Z}/2$-coindex of a space.
$Γ$-symmetric spaces are a vast generalization of symmetric spaces. Previous results make it conceivable that their isotropy action is equivariantly formal, and we provide evidence for this in case that $Γ= \mathbb{Z}_2\times\mathbb{Z}_k$. This in particular implies that $\mathbb{Z}_2\times\mathbb{Z}_k$-symmetric spaces are formal in the sense of Rational Homotopy Theory.
Toric orbifolds are a topological generalization of projective toric varieties associated to simplicial fans. We introduce some sufficient conditions on the combinatorial data associated to a toric orbifold to ensure the existence of an invariant cell structure on it and call such a toric orbifold retractable. In this paper, our main goal is to study equivariant cohomology theories of retractable toric orbifolds. Our results extend the corresponding results on divisive weighted projective spaces.
