Angular equivalence of norms is introduced by Kikianty and Sinnamon (2017) and is a stronger notion than the usual topological equivalence. Given two angularly equivalent norms, if one norm has a certain geometrical property, e.g. uniform convexity, then the other norm also possesses such a property. In this paper, we show further results in this direction, namely angular equivalent norms share the property of uniform non-squareness, and that angular equivalence preserves the exposed points of the unit ball. A discussion on the (equivalence of the) dual norms of angularly equivalent norms is also given, giving a partial answer to an open problem as stated in the paper by Kikianty and Sinnamon (2017).
Angular equivalence is introduced and shown to be an equivalence relation among the norms on a fixed real vector space. It is a finer notion than the usual (topological) notion of norm equivalence. Angularly equivalent norms share certain geometric properties: A norm that is angularly equivalent to a uniformly convex norm is itself uniformly convex. The same is true for strict convexity. Extreme points of the unit balls of angularly equivalent norms occur on the same rays, and if one unit ball is a polyhedron so is the other. Among norms arising from inner products, two norms are angularly equ…
Let $A$ and $B$ be compact operators over a topological space $X$ and suppose that these operators are normal and have same distinct eigenvalues at each point. By obstruction theory, we establish a necessary and sufficient condition for $A$ and $B$ to be strongly unitarily equivalent. When $X=S^1$, we also give a sufficient condition for $A$ and $B$ to be approximately unitarily equivalent with some assumption on their eigenvalues.
The theory of multi-norms was developed by H.\ G.\ Dales and M.\ E.\ Polyakov in a memoir that was published in \emph{Dissertationes Mathematicae}. In that memoir, the notion of `equivalence' of multi-norms was defined. In the present memoir, we make a systematic study of when various pairs of multi-norms are mutually equivalent.
Let M be a space of homogeneous type and denote by F^\infty_{cont}(M) the space of finite linear combinations of continuous (1,\infty)-atoms. In this note we give a simple function theoretic proof of the equivalence on F^\infty_{cont}(M) of the H^1-norm and the norm defined in terms of finite linear combinations of atoms. The result holds also for the class of nondoubling metric measure spaces considered in previous works of A. Carbonaro and the authors.
In this paper we consider a norm based on the infinitesimal generator of the shift semigroup in a direction. The relevance of such a focus is guaranteed by an abstract representation of a fractional integro-differential operator by means of a composition of the corresponding infinitesimal generator. The main result of the paper is a theorem establishing equivalence of norms in functional spaces. Even without mentioning the relevance of this result for the constructed theory, we claim it deserves to be considered itself.
We prove that the $L_1$-norms associated with a positive element $a$ of a unital C*-algebra are equivalent to the norm of C*-algebra if and only if $a$ is invertible.
We study the structure of the space of coarse Lipschitz maps between Banach spaces. In particular we introduce the notion of norm attaining coarse Lipschitz maps. We extend to the case of norm attaining coarse Lipschitz equivalences, a result of G. Godefroy on Lipschitz equivalences. This leads us to include the non separable versions of classical results on the stability of the existence of asymptotically uniformly smooth norms under Lipschitz or coarse Lipschitz equivalences.
Let $A_{p,r}^m(n)$ be the best constant that fulfills the following inequality: for every $m$-homogeneous polynomial $P(z) = \sum_{|α|=m} a_α z^α$ in $n$ complex variables, $$\big( \sum_{|α|=m} |a_α|^{r} \big)^{1/r} \leq A_{p,r}^m(n) \sup_{z \in B_{\ell_p^n}} \big|P(z) \big| .$$ For every degree $m$, and a wide range of values of $ p,r \in [1,\infty]$ (including any $r$ in the case $p \in [1,2]$, and any $r$ and $p$ for the 2-homogeneous case), we give the correct asymptotic behavior of these constants as $n$ (the number of variables) tends to infinity. Remarkably, in many cases, extremal poly…
Let T_t = e^{-tA} be a bounded analytic semigroup on Lp, with 1<p<\infty. It is known that if A and its adjoint A^* both satisfy square function estimates \bignorm{\bigl(\int_{0}^{\infty}| A^{1/2} T_t(x)|^2\, dt\,\bigr)^{1/2}_{Lp} \lesssim \norm{x} and \bignorm{\bigl(\int_{0}^{\infty}|A^{*}^{1/2} T_t^*(y)|^2\, dt\,\bigr)^{1/2}_{Lp'} \lesssim \norm{y} for x in Lp and y in Lp', then A admits a bounded H^{\infty}(Σ_θ) functional calculus for any θ>\fracπ{2}. We show that this actually holds true for some θ<\fracπ{2}.
When 0<p<1, it is known that the p-Bloch and (1-p)-Lipschitz spaces of the unit ball in n-dimensional complex Eucllidean space are equal as sets. We prove that these spaces are additionally norm-equivalent, thus extending known results for n=1 and the polydisk. As an application, we generalize work by Madigan on the disk by investigating boundedness of composition operators between p- and q-Lipschitz spaces of the ball.
We investigate the problem of the equivalence of $L^q$-Sobolev norms in Malliavin spaces for $q\in [1,\infty)$, focusing on the graph norm of the $k$-th Malliavin derivative operator and the full Sobolev norm involving all derivatives up to order $k$, where $k$ is any positive integer. The case $q=1$ in the infinite-dimensional setting is challenging, since at such extreme the standard approach involving Meyer's inequalities fails. In this direction, we are able to establish the mentioned equivalence for $q=1$ and $k=2$ relying on a vector-valued Poincaré inequality that we prove independently…
We consider the spaces $L^p(X,ν;V)$, where $X$ is a separable Banach space, $μ$ is a centred non-degenerate Gaussian measure, $ν:=Ke^{-U}μ$ with normalizing factor $K$ and $V$ is a separable Hilbert space. In this paper we prove a vector-valued Poincaré inequality for functions $F\in W^{1,p}(X,ν;V)$, which allows us to show that for every $p\in(1,+\infty)$ and every $k\in\mathbb N$ the norm in $W^{k,p}(X,ν)$ is equivalent to the graph norm of $D_H^k$ (the $k$-th Malliavin derivative) in $L^p(X,ν)$. To conclude, we show exponential decay estimates for $(T^V(t))_{t\geq0}$ as $t\rightarrow+\infty…
In this paper we construct an injection from the linear space of trigonometric polynomials defined on $\mathbb{T}^d$ with bounded degrees with respect to each variable to a suitable linear subspace $L^1_E\subset L^1(\mathbb{T})$. We give such a quantitative condition on $L^1_E$ that this injection is a isomorphism of a Banach spaces equipped with $L^1$ norm and the norm of the isomorphism is independent on the dimension $d$.
