Using single-pixel detection, the end-to-end neural network that jointly optimizes both encoding and decoding enables high-precision imaging and high-level semantic sensing. However, for varied sampling rates, the large-scale network requires retraining that is laboursome and computation-consuming. In this letter, we report a weighted optimization technique for dynamic rate-adaptive single-pixel imaging and sensing, which only needs to train the network for one time that is available for any sampling rates. Specifically, we introduce a novel weighting scheme in the encoding process to characterize different patterns' modulation efficiency. While the network is training at a high sampling rate, the modulation patterns and corresponding weights are updated iteratively, which produces optimal ranked encoding series when converged. In the experimental implementation, the optimal pattern series with the highest weights are employed for light modulation, thus achieving highly-efficient imaging and sensing. The reported strategy saves the additional training of another low-rate network required by the existing dynamic single-pixel networks, which further doubles training efficiency. Experiments on the MNIST dataset validated that once the network is trained with a sampling rate of 1, the average imaging PSNR reaches 23.50 dB at 0.1 sampling rate, and the image-free classification accuracy reaches up to 95.00\% at a sampling rate of 0.03 and 97.91\% at a sampling rate of 0.1.
The conventional high-level sensing techniques require high-fidelity images as input to extract target features, which are produced by either complex imaging hardware or high-complexity reconstruction algorithms. In this letter, we propose single-pixel sensing (SPS) that performs high-level sensing directly from coupled measurements of a single-pixel detector, without the conventional image acquisition and reconstruction process. The technique consists of three steps including binary light modulation that can be physically implemented at $\sim$22kHz, single-pixel coupled detection owning wide …
Is the center position fully capable of representing a pixel? There is nothing wrong to represent pixels with their centers in a discrete image representation, but it makes more sense to consider each pixel as the aggregation of signals from a local area in an image super-resolution (SR) context. Despite the great capability of coordinate-based implicit representation in the field of arbitrary-scale image SR, this area's nature of pixels is not fully considered. To this end, we propose integrated positional encoding (IPE), extending traditional positional encoding by aggregating frequency info…

The ability to image high-dynamic-range (HDR) scenes is crucial in many computer vision applications. The dynamic range of conventional sensors, however, is fundamentally limited by their well capacity, resulting in saturation of bright scene parts. To overcome this limitation, emerging sensors offer in-pixel processing capabilities to encode the incident irradiance. Among the most promising encoding schemes is modulo wrapping, which results in a computational photography problem where the HDR scene is computed by an irradiance unwrapping algorithm from the wrapped low-dynamic-range (LDR) sens…
Deep learning techniques have achieved great success in remote sensing image change detection. Most of them are supervised techniques, which usually require large amounts of training data and are limited to a particular application. Self-supervised methods as an unsupervised approach are popularly used to solve this problem and are widely used in unsupervised binary change detection tasks. However, the existing self-supervised methods in change detection are based on pre-tasks or at patch-level, which may be sub-optimal for pixel-wise change detection tasks. Therefore, in this work, a pixel-wi…

Single-pixel imaging (SPI) is a novel imaging technique whose working principle is based on the compressive sensing (CS) theory. In SPI, data is obtained through a series of compressive measurements and the corresponding image is reconstructed. Typically, the reconstruction algorithm such as basis pursuit relies on the sparsity assumption in images. However, recent advances in deep learning have found its uses in reconstructing CS images. Despite showing a promising result in simulations, it is often unclear how such an algorithm can be implemented in an actual SPI setup. In this paper, we dem…
In this letter we report on the effects of pixel crosstalk on the experimental realization of a reported encoding method (Opt. Lett. 39, 1740 (2014)) with PA-LCoS SLMs. We found that, under Nyquist limit condition, about 70% of a single pixel cell can generate unexpected phase modulation. In order to approach uniform phase modulation, and consequently improve the quality of measured amplitude and phase images, a generalized sampling scheme is proposed. To corroborate our proposal, proper experiments were carried out. On this point, a particular implementation of the well-established phase shif…

Targeting at depicting land covers with pixel-wise semantic categories, semantic segmentation in remote sensing images needs to portray diverse distributions over vast geographical locations, which is difficult to be achieved by the homogeneous pixel-wise forward paths in the architectures of existing deep models. Although several algorithms have been designed to select pixel-wise adaptive forward paths for natural image analysis, it still lacks theoretical supports on how to obtain optimal selections. In this paper, we provide mathematical analyses in terms of the parameter optimization, whic…
Snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) encodes high-speed scene video into a snapshot measurement and then computationally makes reconstructions, allowing for efficient high-dimensional data acquisition. Numerous algorithms, ranging from regularization-based optimization and deep learning, are being investigated to improve reconstruction quality, but they are still limited by the ill-posed and information-deficient nature of the standard SCI paradigm. To overcome these drawbacks, we propose a new key frames assisted hybrid encoding paradigm for compressive video sensing, termed KH-CVS, that altern…

In this paper, we improve image reconstruction in a single-pixel scanning system by selecting an detector optimal field of view. Image reconstruction is based on compressed sensing and image quality is compared to interpolated staring arrays. The image quality comparisons use a "dead leaves" data set, Bayesian estimation and the Peak-Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) measure. Compressed sensing is explored as an interpolation algorithm and shows with high probability an improved performance compared to Lanczos interpolation. Furthermore, multi-level sampling in a single-pixel scanning system is sim…
We describe the application of structured imaging with a single pixel camera to imaging through fog. We demonstrate the use of a high-pass filter on the detected bucket signals to suppress the effects of temporal variations of fog density and enable an effective reconstruction of the image. A quantitative analysis and comparison of several high-pass filters are demonstrated for the application. Both computational ghost imaging and compressive sensing techniques were used for image reconstruction and compressive sensing was observed to give a higher reconstructed image quality.
In event-based sensing, many sensors independently and asynchronously emit events when there is a change in their input. Event-based sensing can present significant improvements in power efficiency when compared to traditional sampling, because (1) the output is a stream of events where the important information lies in the timing of the events, and (2) the sensor can easily be controlled to output information only when interesting activity occurs at the input. Moreover, event-based sampling can often provide better resolution than standard uniform sampling. Not only does this occur because in…
We demonstrate single-pixel imaging in the spectral domain by encoding Fourier probe patterns onto the spectrum of a superluminescent laser diode using a programmable optical filter. As a proof-of-concept, we measure the wavelength-dependent transmission of a Michelson interferometer and a wavelength-division multiplexer. Our results open new perspectives for remote broadband measurements with possible applications in industrial, biological or security applications.
We report a line-scanning imaging modality of Compressive Raman technology with a single-pixel detector. The spatial information along the illumination line is encoded onto one axis of a digital micromirror device, while spectral coding masks are applied along the orthogonal direction. We demonstrate imaging and classification of three different chemical species.

The land cover classification has played an important role in remote sensing because it can intelligently identify things in one huge remote sensing image to reduce the work of humans. However, a lot of classification methods are designed based on the pixel feature or limited spatial feature of the remote sensing image, which limits the classification accuracy and universality of their methods. This paper proposed a novel method to take into the information of remote sensing image, i.e., geographic latitude-longitude information. In addition, a dual-branch convolutional neural network (CNN) cl…
