We present the status of our project to calculate $D \to π\ell ν$, $D \to K \ell ν$ and $D_s \to K \ell ν$ semileptonic form factors using domain wall fermions for both heavy and light quarks. Our computations are performed using RBC/UKQCD's set of 2+1 flavour domain wall fermion and Iwasaki gauge field ensembles. We plan to calculate three-point functions covering the full, physically allowed kinematic range. Given that the signal decays faster than the noise, unambiguously and reliably extracting the ground state is critical for success. We include an analysis of operator diagonalisation within several possible $2 \times 2$ operator bases and find an admixture of gauged fixed wall and $\mathbb{Z} \left( 2 \right)$ wall sources to be acceptable at both zero and non-zero momentum. Initial results for semileptonic form factors are presented for first ensembles.
We have analyzed the semileptonic decays $B\rightarrow D\ellν$ and $B\rightarrow D^*\ellν$ on the full suite of MILC (2+1)-flavor asqtad ensembles with lattice spacings as small as 0.045 fm and light-to-strange-quark mass ratios as low as 1/20. We use the Fermilab interpretation of the clover action for heavy valence quarks and the asqtad action for light valence quarks. We compute the hadronic form factors for $B\rightarrow D$ at both zero and nonzero recoil and for $B\rightarrow D^*$ at zero recoil. We report our results for $|V_{cb}|$.
Small changes in the masses of massive external scattering states should correspond to small changes in the non-perturbative parameterization of form factors in quantum field theory, as long as the relevant energy range is not near strong deformations. Here, the definition of ``small'' is investigated and applied to $SU(3)$ breaking in semileptonic $B_{(s)}\rightarrow D_{(s)}$ transitions. When unitarity and analyticity are imposed, the differences in the form factors for semileptonic $B\rightarrow D$ versus $B_s\rightarrow D_s$ decays are found to be within $\mathcal{O}(1\%)$ over the entire …
We present a lattice quantum chromodynamics determination of the ratio of the scalar and vector form factors for two semileptonic decays of the $B_s$ meson: $B_s \rightarrow K \ell ν$ and $B_s \rightarrow D_s \ell ν$. In conjunction with future experimental data, our results for these correlated form factors will provide a new method to extract $|V_{ub}/V_{cb}|$, which may elucidate the current tension between exclusive and inclusive determinations of these Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa mixing matrix parameters. In addition to the form factor results, we determine the ratio of the differential dec…
We present a study of $D \rightarrow K, l ν$ semileptonic decays on the lattice which employs the HISQ action for both the charm and the light quarks. We work with MILC unquenched $N_f = 2 + 1$ lattices and determine the scalar form factor $f_0(q^2)$. This form factor is obtained from a scalar current matrix element that does not require any operator matching. We find $f^{D \rightarrow K}_0(0) \equiv f^{D \rightarrow K}_+(0) = 0.747(19)$ in the chiral plus continuum limit and hereby improve the theory error on this quantity by a factor of $\sim$4 compared to previous lattice determinations. Co…
We analyze the inclusive semileptonic $B \to X_c \ellν$ structure functions in 2+1-flavor lattice QCD. The Möbius domain-wall fermion action is used for light, strange, charm and bottom quarks. The structure function receives contributions from various exclusive modes, including the dominant S-wave states $D^{(*)}_s$ as well as the P-wave states $D_s^{**}$. We can identify them in the lattice data, from which we put some constraints on the $B_s \to D_s^{**}\ellν$ form factors.
We present a new calculation of the $D \rightarrow π, l ν$ semileptonic form factor $f^{D \rightarrow π}_+(q^2)$ at $q^2 = 0$ based on HISQ charm and light valence quarks on MILC $N_f = 2 +1$ lattices. Using methods developed recently for HPQCD's study of $D \rightarrow K, l ν$ decays, we find $f^{D \rightarrow π}_+(0) = 0.666(29)$. This signifies a better than factor of two improvement in errors for this quantity compared to previous calculations. Combining the new result with CLEO-c branching fraction data, we extract the CKM matrix element $|V_{cd}| = 0.225(6)_{exp.}(10)_{lat.}$, where the …
We present updates for our nonperturbative lattice QCD calculations to determine semileptonic form factors for exclusive $B\to π\ellν$, $B\to D \ellν$, $B_s\to K\ell ν$, and $B_s\to D_s\ellν$ decays. Our calculation is based on RBC-UKQCD's set of $2+1$-dynamical-flavor gauge field ensembles. In the valence sector we use domain wall fermions for up/down, strange and charm quarks, whereas bottom quarks are simulated with the relativistic heavy quark action. The continuum limit is based on three lattice spacings. Using kinematical $z$ expansions we aim to obtain form factors over the full $q^2$ r…
We discuss first results for the computation of short distance contributions to semileptonic form factors for the rare $B$ decays $B \to K^{*} \ell^+\ell^-$ and $B_s \to ϕ\ell^+ \ell^-$. Our simulations are based on RBC/UKQCD's $N_f=2+1$ ensembles with domain wall light quarks and the Iwasaki gauge action. For the valence $b$-quark we chose the relativistic heavy quark action.
The tree-level $b\rightarrow c{\ell}\barν_{\ell}$ based hadronic transitions have been on the focus of much attention since recording significant deviations of the experimental data, on the ratios of the branching fractions in $ τ$ and $ e-μ$ channels of the semileptonic $ B \rightarrow D $ transition, from the SM predictions by BaBar Collaboration in 2012. It can be of great importance to look whether similar discrepancies take place in the semileptonic baryonic $Λ_{b}\rightarrow Λ_{c}{\ell}\barν_{\ell}$ decay channel or not. In this accordance we estimate the decay width as well as the ratio…
We present a new study of D semileptonic decays on the lattice which employs the Highly Improved Staggered Quark (HISQ) action for both the charm and the light valence quarks. We work with MILC unquenched $N_f = 2 + 1$ lattices and determine the scalar form factor $f_0(q^2)$ for $D \rightarrow K, l ν$ semileptonic decays. The form factor is obtained from a scalar current matrix element that does not require any operator matching. We develop a new approach to carrying out chiral/continuum extrapolations of $f_0(q^2)$. The method uses the kinematic "$z$" variable instead of $q^2$ or the kaon ene…
We report updates to an ongoing lattice-QCD calculation of the form factors for the semileptonic decays $B \to π\ell ν$, $B_s \to K \ell ν$, $B \to π\ell^+ \ell^-$, and $B \to K \ell^+ \ell^-$. The tree-level decays $B_{(s)} \to π(K) \ell ν$ enable precise determinations of the CKM matrix element $|V_{ub}|$, while the flavor-changing neutral-current interactions $B \to π(K) \ell^+ \ell^-$ are sensitive to contributions from new physics. This work uses MILC's (2+1+1)-flavor HISQ ensembles at approximate lattice spacings between $0.057$ and $0.15$ fm, with physical sea-quark masses on four out o…
We report the status of an ongoing lattice-QCD calculation of form factors for exclusive semileptonic decays of $B$ mesons with both charged currents ($B\toπ\ellν$, $B_s\to K\ellν$) and neutral currents ($B\toπ\ell^+\ell^-$, $B\to K\ell^+\ell^-$). The results are important for constraining or revealing physics beyond the Standard Model. This work uses MILC's (2+1+1)-flavor ensembles with the HISQ action for the sea and light valence quarks and the clover action in the Fermilab interpretation for the $b$ quark. Simulations are carried out at three lattice spacings down to $0.088$ fm, with both …
We calculate the $B \to D^{(*)} \ell ν$ form factors in 2+1 flavor relativistic lattice QCD by employing the Möbius domain-wall action for all quark flavors. Our simulations are carried out at lattice cut-offs $a^{-1} \sim 2.5$, 3.6 and 4.5 GeV with the bottom quark masses up to 0.7 $a^{-1}$ to control discretization effects. We extrapolate the form factors to the continuum limit and physical quark masses, and discuss systematic uncertainties of the form factors.
The quark flavor sector of the Standard Model is a fertile ground to look for new physics effects through a unitarity test of the Cabbibo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix. We present a lattice QCD calculation of the scalar and the vector form factors (over a large $q^2$ region including $q^2 = 0$) associated with the $D \rightarrow Klν$ semi-leptonic decay. This calculation will then allow us to determine the central CKM matrix element, $V_{cs}$ in the Standard Model, by comparing the lattice QCD results for the form factors and the experimental decay rate. This form factor calculation has been …
We report on our determinations of $B\to π\ellν$, $B_s\to K \ell ν$ and $B_s\to D_s \ell ν$ semileptonic form factors. In addition we discuss the determination of $R$-ratios testing lepton-flavor universality and suggest an improved ratio. Our calculations are based on the set of 2+1 flavor domain-wall Iwasaki gauge field configurations generated by the RBC/UKQCD collaboration with three lattice spacings of $1/a = 1.78$, $2.38$, and $2.79\,\text{GeV}$. We use the relativistic heavy quark action for $b$ quarks and charm quarks are simulated with the Möbius domain-wall fermion action.
We present a preliminary study toward a lattice determination of the vector and scalar form factors of the $B \to π\ell ν$ semileptonic decays. We compute the form factors relative to the transition between heavy-light pseudoscalar mesons, with masses above the physical D-mass, and the pion. We simulate heavy-quark masses in the range $m_c^{phys} < m_h < 2m_c^{phys}$. Lorentz symmetry breaking due to hypercubic effects is clearly observed in the data, and included in the decomposition of the current matrix elements in terms of additional form factors. We discuss the size of this breaking as th…

We calculate for the first time the form factors of the semi-leptonic decays of the $D_s$ meson to $η$ and $η^\prime$ using lattice techniques. As a by-product of the calculation we obtain the masses and leading distribution amplitudes of the $η$ and $η^\prime$ mesons. We use $N_f=2+1$ non-perturbatively improved clover fermions on configurations with a lattice spacing $a\sim 0.075$ fm. We are able to obtain clear signals for relevant matrix elements, using several noise reduction techniques, both for the connected and disconnected contributions. This includes a new method for reducing the var…
The recent deviations of the experimental data on some parameters of the tree-level semileptonic $B$ and $B_c$ mesons decays from the standard model (SM) predictions indicate considerable violations of the lepton flavor universality, and as a result possible new physics (NP) effects. To better understand the possible NP effects it is necessary to study deeply the physical quantities defining these decays from many aspects. The calculations of the physical quantities require the determinations of the hadronic form factors entering the matrix elements of the considered transitions as the main in…
We update the lattice calculation of the $B\toπ$ semileptonic form factors, which have important applications to the CKM matrix element $|V_{ub}|$ and the $B\toπ\ell^+\ell^-$ rare decay. We use MILC asqtad ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ sea quarks and over a range of lattice spacings $a \approx 0.045$--$0.12$ fm. We perform a combined chiral and continuum extrapolation of our lattice data using SU(2) staggered chiral perturbation theory in the hard pion limit. To extend the results for the form factors to the full kinematic range, we take a functional approach to parameterize the form factors using …

We review a novel model-independent approach to the analysis of new-physics effects in the $s\to u\ell^-\barν$ transitions. We apply it to (semi)leptonic kaon decays and study their complementarity with pion and hyperon $β$ decays or with collider searches of new physics.
Inclusive semileptonic decays of beauty baryons are studied using the heavy quark expansion to ${\cal O}(1/m_b^3)$, at leading order in $α_s$. The case of a polarized decaying baryon is examined, with reference to $Λ_b$. An extension of the Standard Model effective Hamiltonian inducing $b \to U \ell {\bar ν}_ \ell$ transitions ($U=u,\,c$ and $\ell=e,\,μ,\,τ$) is considered, which comprises the full set of D=6 semileptonic operators with left-handed neutrinos. The effects of the new operators in several observables are described.
We present nearly final results from our analysis of the form factors for $B\to D^\ast\ellν$ decay at nonzero recoil. Our analysis includes 15 MILC asqtad ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of sea quarks and lattice spacings ranging from $a\approx0.15$ fm down to $0.045$ fm. The valence light quarks employ the asqtad action, whereas the $b$ and $c$ quarks are treated using the Fermilab action. We discuss the impact that our results will have on $\ |V_{cb}\ |$ and $R(D^\ast)$.
We present recent progress in calculating the semileptonic form factors $h_{A_1}(w)$ for the $\bar{B} \to D^{\ast} \ell \barν$ decays. We use the Oktay-Kronfeld (OK) action for the charm and bottom valence quarks and the HISQ action for light quarks. We adopt the Newton method combined with the scanning method to find a good initial guess for the $χ^2$ minimizer in the fitting of the 2pt correlation functions. The main advantage is that the Newton method lets us to consume all the time slices allowed by the physical positivity. We report the first, reliable, but preliminary results for $h_{A_1…
This article analyses the available inputs in $\btopilnu$ and $\btorholnu$ decays which include the measured values of differential rate in different $q^2$-bins (lepton invariant mass spectrum), lattice, and the newly available inputs on the relevant form-factors from the light-cone sum rules (LCSR) approach. We define different fit scenarios, and in each of these scenarios, we predict a few observables in the standard model (SM). For example, $R(M) =\frac{\mathcal{B}(B \to M\ell_iν_{\ell_i})}{\mathcal{B}(B\to M\ell_jν_{\ell_j})} $, $R^{\ell_i}_{\ell_j}(M) =\frac{\mathcal{B}(B\to \ell_iν_{\ell…
The Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element $\vert V_{ub}\vert$ is obtained from exclusive semileptonic $B \to π\ell ν_\ell$ and $B_s \to K \ell ν_\ell$ decays adopting the unitarity-based dispersion matrix approach for the determination of the hadronic form factors (FFs) in the whole kinematical range. We use lattice computations of the relevant susceptibilities and of the FFs in the large-$q^2$ regime in order to derive their behavior in the low-$q^2$ region without assuming any specific momentum dependence and without constraining their shape using experimental data. Then, we address…

I present analyses of semileptonic $B_c$ decays. I first discuss the decays induced by $c \to \{s, d \}$ transitions, in particular $B_c \to B_a \, \bar{\ell} \, ν_\ell$ and $B_c \to B_a^*(\to B_a \, γ) \, \bar{\ell} \, ν_\ell$ decays, with $a = \{s, d \}$ and $\ell = \{ e, μ\}$, in the Standard Model and in the extension based on the low-energy Hamiltonian comprising the full set of $D = 6$ semileptonic $c \to s, d$ operators with left-handed neutrinos.\\ Moreover, I consider $b \to c$ modes, with particular focus on the determination of the form factors parametrizing the $B_c \to J/ψ,η_c$ ma…
In this contribution we analyse the heavy-to-light $B$ decays through the Dispersive Matrix method, which can be applied to any semileptonic decays of hadrons once lattice QCD computations of the hadronic Form Factors and of the relevant susceptibilities are available. We will explicitly discuss the application of the Dispersive Matrix approach to both $B \to π\ell ν_{\ell}$ and $B_s \to K \ell ν_{\ell}$ decays. As usual in our analysis strategy, only LQCD computations of the FFs at high values of the momentum transfer will be used to determine the shape of the FFs in the whole kinematical ran…
