In this paper, we introduce a new type of matter that has origin in $p$-adic strings, i.e., strings with a $p$-adic worldsheet. We investigate some properties of this $p$-adic matter, in particular its cosmological aspects. We start with crossing symmetric scattering amplitudes for $p$-adic open strings and related effective nonlocal and nonlinear Lagrangian which describes tachyon dynamics at the tree level. Then, we make a slight modification of this Lagrangian and obtain a new Lagrangian for non-tachyonic scalar field. {Using this new Lagrangian in the weak field approximation as a matter in Einstein gravity with the cosmological constant, one obtains an exponentially expanding FLRW closed universe.} At the end, we discuss the obtained results, i.e., computed mass of the scalar $p$-adic particle, estimated radius of related closed universe and noted $p$-adic matter as a possible candidate for dark matter.
Starting from p-adic string theory with tachyons, we introduce a new kind of non-tachyonic matter which may play an important role in evolution of the Universe. This matter retains nonlocal and nonlinear p-adic string dynamics, but does not suffer of negative square mass. In space-time dimensions D = 2 + 4k, what includes D = 6, 10, ..., 26, the kinetic energy term also maintains correct sign. In these spaces this p-adic matter provides negative cosmological constant and time-dependent scalar field solution with negative potential. Their possible cosmological role is discussed. We have also co…
We study a simple model of p-adic closed and open strings. It sheds some light on the dynamics of tachyon condensation for both types of strings. We calculate the effect of static and decaying D-brane configurations on the closed string background. For closed string tachyons we find lumps analogous to D-branes. By studying their fluctuation spectrum and the D-branes they admit, we argue that closed string lumps should be interpreted as spacetimes of lower dimensionality described by some noncritical p-adic string theory.
A brief review of p-adic and adelic cosmology is presented. In particular, p-adic and adelic aspects of gravity, classical cosmology, quantum mechanics, quantum cosmology and the wave function of the universe are considered. p-Adic worlds made of p-adic matters, which are different from real world of ordinary matter, are introduced. Real world and p-adic worlds make the universe as a whole. p-Adic origin of the dark energy and dark matter are proposed and discussed.
We investigate the structure of solutions of boundary value problems for a one-dimensional nonlinear system of pseudodifferential equations describing the dynamics (rolling) of p-adic open, closed, and open-closed strings for a scalar tachyon field using the method of successive approximations. For an open-closed string, we prove that the method converges for odd values of p of the form p=4n+1 under the condition that the solution for the closed string is known. For p=2, we discuss the questions of the existence and the nonexistence of solutions of boundary value problems and indicate the poss…
The theory of p-adic strings is reviewed along with some of their applications, foremost among them to the tachyon condensation problem in string theory. Some open problems are discussed, in particular that of the superstring in 10 dimensions as the end-stage of the 26-dimensional closed bosonic string's tachyon condensation.
We discuss the cosmological constant problem, at the minisuperspace level, within the framework of the so-called normalized general relativity (NGR). We prove that the Universe cannot be closed, and reassure that the accompanying cosmological constant $Λ$ generically vanishes, at least classically. The theory does allow, however, for a special class of $Λ\not=0$ solutions which are associated with static closed Einstein universe and with Eddington-Lema\^ıtre universe.
In this article we study closed inflationary universe models proposed by Linde in a brane world cosmological context. In this scenario we determine and characterize the existence of a closed universe, in presence of one self-interacting scalar field with an inflationary stage. Our results are compared to those found in General Relativity.
In this paper, we propose a $p$-adic analog of Mellin amplitudes for scalar operators, and present the computation of the general contact amplitude as well as arbitrary-point tree-level amplitudes for bulk diagrams involving up to three internal lines, and along the way obtain the $p$-adic version of the split representation formula. These amplitudes share noteworthy similarities with the usual (real) Mellin amplitudes for scalars, but are also significantly simpler, admitting closed-form expressions where none are available over the reals. The dramatic simplicity can be attributed to the abse…
We propose a number system covariance principle between $p$-adic and Archimedean frameworks. We use it to derive several closed-form expressions for the five-point open string tachyon scattering amplitude.
The recent Planck Legacy 2018 release has confirmed the presence of an enhanced lensing amplitude in CMB power spectra compared to that predicted in the standard $Λ$CDM model. A closed universe can provide a physical explanation for this effect, with the Planck CMB spectra now preferring a positive curvature at more than $99 \%$ C.L. Here we further investigate the evidence for a closed universe from Planck, showing that positive curvature naturally explains the anomalous lensing amplitude and demonstrating that it also removes a well-known tension within the Planck data set concerning the val…
In three spacetime dimensions, general relativity drastically simplifies, becoming a ``topological'' theory with no propagating local degrees of freedom. Nevertheless, many of the difficult conceptual problems of quantizing gravity are still present. In this review, I summarize the rather large body of work that has gone towards quantizing (2+1)-dimensional vacuum gravity in the setting of a spatially closed universe.
Current observational data is consistent with the universe being slightly closed. We investigate families of singular and non-singular closed instantons that could describe the beginning of a closed inflationary universe. We calculate the scalar and tensor perturbations that would be generated from singular instantons and compute the corresponding CMB power spectrum in a universe with cosmological parameters like our own. We investigate spatially homogeneous modes of the instantons, finding unstable modes which render the instantons sub-dominant contributions in the path integral. We show that…
In the no-boundary univers e the universe is created from an instanton. However, there does not exist any instanton for the ``realistic'' $FRW$ universe with a scalar field. The ``instanton'' leading to its quantum creation may be modified and reinterpreted as a constrained gravitational instanton.
We clarify and develop the results of a previous paper on the birth of a closed universe of negative spatial curvature and multiply connected topology. In particular we discuss the initial instanton and the second topology change in more detail. This is followed by a short discussion of the results.
A closed vacuum-dominated Friedmann universe is asymptotic to a de Sitter space with a cosmological event horizon for any observer. The holographic principle says the area of the horizon in Planck units determines the number of bits of information about the universe that will ever be available to any observer. The wavefunction describing the probability distribution of mass quanta associated with bits of information on the horizon is the boundary condition for the wavefunction specifying the probability distribution of mass quanta throughout the universe. Local interactions between mass quanta…
A closed universe containing pressureless dust, more generally perfect fluid matter with pressure-to-density ratio w in the range (1/3, - 1/3), violates holographic principle applied according to the Fischler-Susskind proposal. We show, first for a class of two-fluid solutions and then for the general multifluid case, that the closed universe will obey the holographic principle if it also contains matter with w < - 1/3, and if the present value of its total density is sufficiently close to the critical density. It is possible that such matter can be realised by some form of `quintessence', muc…
In this paper, by analyzing the instability against spatially homogeneous and anisotropic perturbations of the Kantowski-Sachs-type during different cosmological epoch, we show that it is a theoretical consequence of the general relativity that the KS universe must be open or flat if it underwent the matter dominated and/or radiation dominated era in its past evolution, which theoretically confirms the flatness of our observable universe.
We show that spatial curvature has a significant effect on the existence of entanglement islands in cosmology. We consider a homogeneous, isotropic universe with thermal radiation purified by a reference spacetime. Arbitrarily small positive curvature guarantees that the entire universe is an island. Proper subsets of the time-symmetric slice of a closed or open universe can be islands, but only if the cosmological constant is negative and sufficiently large in magnitude.
Matter with an equation of state $p=-ρ/3$ may arise in certain scalar field theories, and the energy density of this matter decreases as $a^{-2}$ with the scale factor $a$ of the Universe. In this case, the Universe could be closed but still have a nonrelativistic-matter density $Ω_0<1$. Furthermore, the cosmic microwave background could come from a causally-connected region at the other side of the Universe. This model is currently viable and might be tested by a host of forthcoming observations.
We study a closed model of a universe filled with viscous fluid and quintessence matter components. The dynamical equations imply that the universe might look like an accelerated flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe at low redshift. We consider here dissipative processes which obey a causal thermodynamics. Here, we account for the entropy production via causal dissipative inflation.
In this paper we study a type of model for closed inflationary universe models using the Jordan-Brans-Dicke theory. Herein we determine and characterize the existence of $Ω>$1, together with the period of inflation. We have found that our model, which takes into account a Jordan-Brans-Dicke type of theory, is less restrictive than the one used in Einstein's theory of general relativity. Our results are compared to those found in Einstein's theory of Relativity.
We present a conformal field theory -- obtained from a gauged WZW model -- that describes a closed, inhomogeneous expanding and recollapsing universe in $3+1$ dimensions. A possible violation of cosmic censorship is avoided because the universe recollapses just when a naked singularity was about to form. The model has been chosen to have $c=4$ (or $\widehat c=4$ in the supersymmetric case), just like four dimensional Minkowski space.
We describe an accelerating universe model in the context of a scalar-tensor theory. This model is intrinsically closed, and is filled with quintessence-like scalar field components, in addition to the Cold Dark Matter component. With a background geometry specified by the Friedman-Robertson-Walker metric, we establish conditions under which this closed cosmological model, described in a scalar-tensor theory, may look flat in a genuine Jordan-Brans-Dicke theory. Both models become indistinguishable at low enough redshift.
If our universe is asymptotic to a de Sitter space, it should be closed with curvature in $O(Λ)$ in view of dS special relativity. Conversely, its evolution can fix on Beltrami systems of inertia in the dS-space without Einstein's `argument in a circle'. Gravity should be local dS-invariant based on localization of the principle of inertia.
Whether our universe with present day acceleration can eventually collapse is very interesting problem. We are also interesting in such problems, whether the universe is closed? Why it is so flat? How long to expend a period for a cycle of the universe? In this paper a simple ``slow-fast'' type of the quintessence potential is designed for the closed universe to realize the present acceleration of our universe and its eventual big collapse. A detail numerical simulation of the universe evolution demonstrates that it divides the seven stages, a very rich story. It is unexpected that the quintes…
As is well known, the exact evolution equation of the curvature perturbation plays a very important role in investigation of the inflation power spectrum of the flat universe. However, its corresponding exact extension for the non-flat universes has not yet been given out clearly. The interest in the non-flat, specially closed, universes is being aroused recently. The need of this extension is pressing. We start with most elementary physical consideration and obtain finally this exact evolution equation of the curvature perturbation for the non-flat universes, as well as the evolutionary contr…
We observe that the equation of motion for a free scalar field in a closed universe with radiation and a positive cosmological constant is given by Lamé's equation. Computing the exact power spectrum of scalar field perturbations, the presence of both curvature and radiation produces a red tilt weakly dependent on the amount of radiation.
We investigate the appearance of islands when a closed universe with gravity is entangled with a non-gravitating quantum system. We use braneworlds in three-dimensional multiboundary wormhole geometries as a model to explore what happens when the non-gravitating system has several components. The braneworld can be either completely contained in the entanglement wedge of one of the non-gravitating systems or split between them. In the former case, entanglement with the other system leads to a mixed state in the closed universe, unlike in simpler setups with a single quantum system, where the cl…
We find two types [called (S) and (A)] of new vacuum solutions of open, flat, and closed universes which are inflating in the brane-world scenario. We show that the warp factor of the stabilized metric is universal for the three different kinds of universes. For (S) type solution, we show that one positive-tension brane universe solution is admitted as well as two positive tension brane solution even if we consider the vacuum solution. For (A) type solution, we find that the inflating bulk solutions have black hole like regions and that the full extended space is the R-S solution.
We examine in details Friedmann-Robertson-Walker models in 2+1 dimensions in order to investigate the cosmic holographic principle suggested by Fischler and Susskind. Our results are rigorously derived differing from the previous one found by Wang and Abdalla. We discuss the erroneous assumptions done in this work. The matter content of the models is composed of a perfect fluid, with a $γ$-law equation of state. We found that closed universes satisfy the holographic principle only for exotic matter with a negative pressure. We also analyze the case of a collapsing flat universe.
