The binding energies and proton separation energies of nuclides with $Z, N = 30-50$ are investigated, based on the shell model with an uncertainty analysis through statistical methods. Several formulas are used to obtain the binding energies and proton separation energies according to the shell-model calculations. The non-parametric Bootstrap method is applied to establish an uncertainty decomposition and recomposition framework. Moreover, it is used to estimate the stability of proton(s) emission for each nuclide. Two formulas for calculating the binding energies with a systematic uncertainty of $\sim0.3$ MeV are proposed, and a reliable extrapolation ability is examined. These binding energy formulas deduce similar forms of respective $S_{p}$ and $S_{2p}$ energies, which predict the extension of the nuclear boundary of this region. A nice description of the binding energies and proton separation energies is provided. The one- and two-proton separation energies and partial half-lives of proton emitting are predicted, thus showing a new dripline. Besides, there are 30 unstable nuclides predicted to be bound against proton(s)-emission. These nuclear properties will be useful in nuclear astrophysics.
Single-nucleon knockout reaction studies of the proton-dripline nuclei $^9$C and $^{13}$O suggest an appreciable suppression of spectroscopic factors. In this work, we calculate the one-neutron and one-proton spectroscopic factors for the mirror pair $^9$C-$^9$Li and $^{13}$O using two variants of the continuum shell model: the complex-energy Gamow Shell Model and the real-energy Shell Model Embedded in the Continuum. Our results indicate that the continuum effects strongly suppress the spectroscopic factors of well-bound orbits in the dripline systems, but have less impact on the spectroscopi…
The shell structure of even-even isotopes in Si, S, Ar and Ca has been analysed. The theoretical calculations of shell closure parameter $D_{n} (N)$ and the differential variation of the two-neutron separation energy $dS_{2n} (Z, N )$ are carried out within the framework of Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory. Calculations are carried out for different skyrme forces and their sensitivity has been tested. Same nuclides are studied by employing the relativistic mean field aproach based on meson exchange and point coupling models. Theoretically calculated estimates are in good agreement with the recen…
We have studied neutron-rich carbon isotopes in terms of the shell model employing a realistic effective hamiltonian derived from the chiral N3LOW nucleon-nucleon potential. The single-particle energies and effective two-body interaction have been both determined within the framework of the time-dependent degenerate linked-diagram perturbation theory. The calculated results are in very good agreement with the available experimental data, providing a sound description of this isotopic chain toward the neutron dripline. The correct location of the dripline is reproduced.
Nuclear partition functions were calculated for a grid of temperatures from 1.2x10^10 K to 2.75x10^11 K (1<=kT<=24 MeV) within a Fermi-gas approach, including all nuclides from the proton-dripline to the neutron-dripline with proton number 9<=Z<=85. The calculation is based on a nuclear level density description published elsewhere, thus extending the previous tables of partition functions beyond 10^10 K. Additional high temperature corrections had to be applied.
We make numerical comparison of spectra from angular-momentum projection on Hartree-Fock states with spectra from configuration-interaction nuclear shell-model calculations, all carried out in the same model spaces (in this case the sd, lower pf, and p-sd_5/2 shells) and using the same input Hamiltonians. We find, unsurprisingly, that the low-lying excitation spectra for rotational nuclides are well reproduced, but the spectra for vibrational nuclides, and more generally the complex specta for odd-A and odd-odd nuclides are less well reproduced in detail.
The Gamow shell model has shown to efficiently describe weakly bound and unbound nuclear systems, as internucleon correlations and continuum coupling are both taken into account in this model. In the present work, we study neutron-dripline oxygen isotopes. It is hereby demonstrated that the presence of continuum coupling is important for the description of oxygen isotopes at dripline, and especially to assess the eventual bound or unbound character of $^{28}$O. Our results suggest that the ground state of $^{28}$O is weakly unbound and is similar to the narrow resonant $^{26}$O ground state. P…
The importance of microphysical inputs from laboratory nuclear experiments and theoretical nuclear structure calculations in the understanding of the core collapse dynamics, and the subsequent supernova explosion, is largely recognized in the recent literature. In this work, we analyze the impact of the masses of very neutron rich nuclei on the matter composition during collapse, and the corresponding electron capture rate. To this aim, we introduce an empirical modification of the popular Duflo-Zuker mass model to account for possible shell quenching far from stability, and study the effect o…
The ground-state properties of neutron-rich exotic Na and Mg isotopes with even numbers of neutrons, N, are studied up to driplines. The shell-model calculations with an ab initio effective nucleon-nucleon interaction reported in [Tsunoda, Otsuka, Takayanagi et al., Nature 587, 66 (2020)] are extended to observables such as magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments, and charge and matter radii. Good agreements with experimental data are found, and predictions are shown up to driplines. A prescription to extract the deformation parameters for the eigenstates of Monte Carlo Shell Model is …
We compute the proton-neutron entanglement entropy in the interacting nuclear shell model for a variety of nuclides and interactions. Some results make intuitive sense, for example that the shell structure, as governed by single-particle and monopole energies, strongly affects the energetically available space and thus the entanglement entropy. We also find a surprising result: that the entanglement entropy at low excitation energy tends to decrease for nuclides when $N \neq Z$. While we provide evidence this arises from the physical nuclear force by contrasting with random two-body interactio…
The death of the massive stars due to supernova explosion is a key ingredient in stellar evolution, stellar population synthesis. The electron capture (EC) plays a vital role in supernovae explosions. According to the Shell-Model Monte Carlo (SMMC) method, basing onthe Random Phase Approximation (RPA) and Linear Response Theory Model (LRTM), we study the strongly screening EC rates of nuclides $^{52, 53, 59, 60}$Fe in presupernova. The results show that the screening rates can decrease about 18.66\%. We compare our results with those of Fuller et al. (FFN), Aufderheide et al. (AUFD), and Nabi …
We have calculated the multinucleon transfer reactions of $^{208}$Os, $^{208}$Pt, $^{208}$Hg, $^{208}$Pb,$^{208}$Po, $^{208}$Rn, $^{208}$Ra,$^{132,136}$Xe bombarding on $^{232}$Th and $^{248}$Cm at Coulomb barrier energies within the dinuclear system model, systematically. The results are in good agreement with the available experimental data. Coulomb effect and shell effect on production of actinides in these reactions have been investigated thoroughly. Potential energy surface and total kinetic energy mass distributions in the reactions $^{208}$Hg, $^{208}$Pb and$^{208}$Po colliding on $^{24…
Electric quadrupole (E2) matrix elements provide a measure of nuclear deformation and related collective structure. Ground-state quadrupole moments in particular are known to high precision in many p-shell nuclei. While the experimental electric quadrupole moment only measures the proton distribution, both proton and neutron quadrupole moments are needed to probe proton-neutron asymmetry in the nuclear deformation. We seek insight into the relation between these moments through the ab initio no-core configuration interaction (NCCI), or no-core shell model (NCSM), approach. Converged ab initio …
Some emerging concepts of nuclear structure are overviewed. (1) Background: the many-body quantum structure of atomic nucleus, a complex system comprising protons and neutrons (called nucleons collectively), has been studied largely based on the idea of the quantum liquid (a la Landau), where nucleons are quasiparticles moving in a (mean) potential well, with weak "residual" interactions between nucleons. The potential is rigid in general, although it can be anisotropic. While this view was a good starting point, it is time to look into kaleidoscopic aspects of the nuclear structure brought in…
Nucleosynthesis calculations require nuclear level densities for hundreds or even thousands of nuclides. Ideally one would like to constrain these level densities by microscopically motivated yet computationally cheap models. A statistical approach suggests that low moments of the Hamiltonian might be sufficient. Recently Zuker proposed a simple combinatoric formula for level densities based upon the binomial distribution. We rigorously test the binomial formula against full scale shell-model diagonalization calculations for selected $sd$- and $pf$-shell nuclides and also against Monte Carlo p…
The nucleon-pair approximation (NPA) can be a compact alternative to full configuration-interaction (FCI) diagonalization in nuclear shell-model spaces, but selecting good pairs is a long-standing problem. While seniority-based pairs work well for near-spherical nuclides, they do not work well for deformed nuclides with strong rotational bands. We propose an alternate approach. We show how one can write any Slater determinant for an even number of particles as a general pair condensate, from which one can project out pairs of good angular momentum. We implement this by generating unconstrained…
Based on the realistic nuclear force of the high-precision CD-Bonn potential, we have performed comprehensive calculations for neutron-rich calcium isotopes using the Gamow shell model (GSM) which includes resonance and continuum. The realistic GSM calculations produce well binding energies, one- and two-neutron separation energies, predicting that $^{57}$Ca is the heaviest bound odd isotope and $^{70}$Ca is the dripline nucleus. Resonant states are predicted, which provides useful information for future experiments on particle emissions in neutron-rich calcium isotopes. Shell evolutions in th…
The recently confirmed neutron-shell closure at N = 32 has been investigated for the first time below the magic proton number Z = 20 with mass measurements of the exotic isotopes 52,53K, the latter being the shortest-lived nuclide investigated at the online mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP. The resulting two-neutron separation energies reveal a 3 MeV shell gap at N = 32, slightly lower than for 52Ca, highlighting the doubly-magic nature of this nuclide. Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Boguliubov and ab initio Gorkov-Green function calculations are challenged by the new measurements but reproduce qualitatively t…
A new version of the semiempirical formula based on fission approach of alpha decay is derived, by using the optimum values of the fitting parameters determined for even-even nuclei, combined with hindrance factors for even-odd, odd-even, and odd-odd nuclides. The deviations from experimental data for two regions of nuclear chart (493 alpha emitters with Z=52-118 and 142 transuranium nuclei including superheavies (Z=92-118), respectively) are compared with those obtained by using the universal curve and the Viola-Seaborg semiempirical relationship.
Transitions among different mechanisms of two-proton decay are studied in general. The introduced improved direct-decay model generalizes the semi-analytical models used before and provides flawless phenomenological description of three-body correlations in $2p$ decays. This is demonstrated by examples of the low-lying $^{16}$Ne state decays. Different forms of transition dynamic are shown to be highly probable beyond the proton dripline for the $s$-$d$ shell nuclei. It is demonstrated that transition dynamic of $2p$ emitters can provide means for extraction of a width of the ground-state reso…
The Standard Model of particle physics, augmented with neutrino mixing, is at least very nearly the complete theory of interactions of known particles at energies accessible to Nature on Earth. Candidate effective theories of nuclear structure must therefore reflect SM symmetries, especially the chiral global $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$ symmetry of two-massless-quark QCD. For ground-state nuclei, SU(2) chiral perturbation theory (XPT) enables perturbation in inverse powers of $Λ_{XSB}\simeq 1 GeV$, with analytic operators renormalized to all loop orders. We show that pion-less "Static Chiral Nucl…
A generalized method to calculate the excitation-energy dependent parity ratio in the nuclear level density is presented, using the assumption of Poisson distributed independent quasi particles combined with BCS occupation numbers. It is found that it is crucial to employ a sufficiently large model space to allow excitations both from low-lying shells and to higher shells beyond a single major shell. Parity ratios are only found to equilibrate above at least 5-10 MeV of excitation energy. Furthermore, an overshooting effect close to major shells is found where the parity opposite to the ground…
The drastically expanded use of the Woods-Saxon potential in modern day nuclear physics and the availability of new nuclear data motivated us to review and optimize the parameters of this potential to the experimental single-nucleon spectra around the doubly-magic nuclei between $^{16}$O and $^{208}$Pb. We obtain a parameterization which is applicable over the whole nuclear chart for nuclides between $^{16}$O and the heaviest elements. Apart from Coulomb components the obtained parameter set is isospin symmetric. We demonstrate that the potential provides a good description of the nuclear mean…
We identify here possible occurrence of large deformations in the neutron- and proton-rich regions of the nuclear chart from extensive predictions of the values of the reduced quadrupole transition probability B-E2 for the transition from the ground state to the first 2+ state and the corresponding excitation energy E2 of even-even nuclei in the recently developed Generalized Differential Equation model exclusively meant for these physical quantities. This is made possible from our analysis of the predicted values of these two physical quantities and the corresponding deformation parameters de…
Energy levels and electromagnetic properties of with $N=28\sim 30$ nuclides are studied in terms of a large-scale shell model calculation, which contains no newly adjusted parameters. The Kuo-Brown $G$-matrix interaction is shown to reproduce energy levels of 205 low-lying states of these nuclei. We evaluate effective charges by incorporating the core-polarization effects caused by the coupling to GQR's. We then compute E2 moments and transition probabilities. The M1 moments and transition rates are calculated by quoting the effective $g$-factors of Towner, which are obtained by taking into ac…
During the last few decades, rare isotope beam facilities have provided unique data for studying the properties of nuclides located far from the beta-stability line. Such nuclei are often accompanied by exotic structures and radioactive modes, which represent the forefront of nuclear research. Among them, two-proton (2p) radioactivity is a rare decay mode found in a few highly proton-rich isotopes. The 2p decay lifetimes and properties of emitted protons hold invaluable information regarding the nuclear structures in the presence of a low-lying proton continuum; as such, they have attracted co…
100Sn is of singular interest for nuclear structure. Its closed-shell proton and neutron configuration exhibit exceptional binding and 100Sn is the heaviest nucleus comprising protons and neutrons in equal number, a feature that enhances the contribution of the short-range, proton-neutron pairing interaction and strongly influences its decay via the weak interaction. Decays studies in the region of 100Sn have attempted to prove its doubly magic character but few have studied it from the ab initio theoretical perspective and none have addressed the odd-proton nuclear forces. Here we present, th…
One of the main ingredients in nuclear structure studies using shell model are the single-particle energy (spe). In order to obtain these values accurately, experimental data is needed. The region around the doubly magic nuclide 100Sn is very interesting for nuclear studies in terms of structure, reaction and nuclear astrophysics. Experimental spectrum data for the 101Sn isotope is required for nuclear shell model studies to be carried out in this region. Since there is not enough experimental data in the literature, different approaches are used for the obtaining spes for the region such as u…
Gamow shell model (GSM) is usually performed within the Woods-Saxon (WS) basis in which the WS parameters need to be determined by fitting experimental single-particle energies including their resonance widths. In the multi-shell case, such a fit is difficult due to the lack of experimental data of cross-shell single-particle energies and widths. In this paper, we develop an {\it ab-initio} GSM by introducing the Gamow Hartree-Fock (GHF) basis that is obtained using the same interaction as the one used in the construction of the shell-model Hamiltonian. GSM makes use of the complex-momentum Be…
Precision mass spectrometry of neutron-rich nuclei is of great relevance for astrophysics. Masses of exotic nuclides impose constraints on models for the nuclear interaction and thus affect the description of the equation of state of nuclear matter, which can be extended to describe neutron-star matter. With knowledge of the masses of nuclides near shell closures, one can also derive the neutron-star crustal composition. The Penning-trap mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP at CERN-ISOLDE has recently achieved a breakthrough measuring the mass of 82Zn, which allowed constraining neutron-star crust compo…
The region around the doubly magic nuclide $^{100}Sn$ is very interesting for nuclear physics studies in terms of structure, reaction and nuclear astrophysics. The main ingredients in nuclear structure studies using the shell model are the single-particle energies and the two-body matrix elements. To obtain the former, experimental data of $^{101}Sn$ isotope spectrum are necessary. Since there is not enough experimental data, different approaches are used in the literature to obtain single-particle energies. In sn100pn interaction, the hole excitation spectrum was used in $^{131}Sn$ to determi…
Newly-published $^{42}$Si gamma-ray spectra and a final-state-inclusive $^{42}$Si production cross section value, obtained in a higher-statistics intermediate-energy two-proton removal experiment from $^{44}$S, are considered in terms of the final-state-exclusive cross sections computed using proposed shell-model effective interactions for nuclei near N=28. Specifically, we give cross section predictions when using the two nucleon amplitudes of the two-proton overlaps $<^{42}$Si$ (J^π)\,|\,^{44}$S$>$ computed using the newly-proposed {\sc sdpf-mu} shell-model Hamiltonian. We show that these pa…

The FRS-ESR facility at GSI provides unique conditions for precision measurements of large areas on the nuclear mass surface in a single experiment. Values for masses of 604 neutron-deficient nuclides (30<=Z<=92) were obtained with a typical uncertainty of 30 microunits. The masses of 114 nuclides were determined for the first time. The odd-even staggering (OES) of nuclear masses was systematically investigated for isotopic chains between the proton shell closures at Z=50 and Z=82. The results were compared with predictions of modern nuclear models. The comparison revealed that the measured tr…
We explore, within the framework of an algebraic sp(4) shell model, discrete approximations to various derivatives of the energies of the lowest isovector-paired 0^+ states of atomic nuclei in the 40 <A < 100 mass range. The results show that the symplectic model can be used to successfully interpret fine structure effects driven by the proton-neutron (pn) and like-particle isovector pairing interactions as well as interactions with higher J multipolarity. A finite energy difference technique is used to investigate two-proton and two-neutron separation energies, observed irregularities found a…

We have investigated nuclear shell effects across the magic number N=126 in the region of the r-process path. Microscopic calculations have been performed using the relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov approach within the framework of the RMF theory for isotopic chains of rare-earth nuclei in the r-process region. The Lagrangian model NL-SV1 with the inclusion of the vector self-coupling of omega meson has been employed. The RMF results show that the shell effects at N=126 remain strong and exhibit only a slight reduction in the strength in going from the r-process path to the neutron drip line. Th…
We report a direct measurement of the Q-value of the neutrinoless double-beta-decay candidate 48Ca at the TITAN Penning-trap mass spectrometer, with the result that Q = 4267.98(32) keV. We measured the masses of both the mother and daughter nuclides, and in the latter case found a 1 keV deviation from the literature value. In addition to the Q-value, we also present results of a new calculation of the neutrinoless double-beta-decay nuclear matrix element of 48Ca. Using diagrammatic many-body perturbation theory to second order to account for physics outside the valence space, we constructed an…
