This paper presents a transformer-based Siamese network architecture (abbreviated by ChangeFormer) for Change Detection (CD) from a pair of co-registered remote sensing images. Different from recent CD frameworks, which are based on fully convolutional networks (ConvNets), the proposed method unifies hierarchically structured transformer encoder with Multi-Layer Perception (MLP) decoder in a Siamese network architecture to efficiently render multi-scale long-range details required for accurate CD. Experiments on two CD datasets show that the proposed end-to-end trainable ChangeFormer architecture achieves better CD performance than previous counterparts. Our code is available at https://github.com/wgcban/ChangeFormer.

The Siamese network is becoming the mainstream in change detection of remote sensing images (RSI). However, in recent years, the development of more complicated structure, module and training processe has resulted in the cumbersome model, which hampers their application in large-scale RSI processing. To this end, this paper proposes an extremely lightweight Siamese network (LSNet) for RSI change detection, which replaces standard convolution with depthwise separable atrous convolution, and removes redundant dense connections, retaining only valid feature flows while performing Siamese feature …
In this study, a Semi-Supervised Learning (SSL) method for improving urban change detection from bi-temporal image pairs was presented. The proposed method adapted a Dual-Task Siamese Difference network that not only predicts changes with the difference decoder, but also segments buildings for both images with a semantics decoder. First, the architecture was modified to produce a second change prediction derived from the semantics predictions. Second, SSL was adopted to improve supervised change detection. For unlabeled data, we introduced a loss that encourages the network to predict consiste…

Detecting topographic changes in the urban environment has always been an important task for urban planning and monitoring. In practice, remote sensing data are often available in different modalities and at different time epochs. Change detection between multimodal data can be very challenging since the data show different characteristics. Given 3D laser scanning point clouds and 2D imagery from different epochs, this paper presents a framework to detect building and tree changes. First, the 2D and 3D data are transformed to image patches, respectively. A Siamese CNN is then employed to detec…

Change detection (CD) of remote sensing images is to detect the change region by analyzing the difference between two bitemporal images. It is extensively used in land resource planning, natural hazards monitoring and other fields. In our study, we propose a novel Siamese neural network for change detection task, namely Dual-UNet. In contrast to previous individually encoded the bitemporal images, we design an encoder differential-attention module to focus on the spatial difference relationships of pixels. In order to improve the generalization of networks, it computes the attention weights be…
In recent years, building change detection methods have made great progress by introducing deep learning, but they still suffer from the problem of the extracted features not being discriminative enough, resulting in incomplete regions and irregular boundaries. To tackle this problem, we propose a dual task constrained deep Siamese convolutional network (DTCDSCN) model, which contains three sub-networks: a change detection network and two semantic segmentation networks. DTCDSCN can accomplish both change detection and semantic segmentation at the same time, which can help to learn more discrim…
Recently, deep learning has achieved promising performance in the change detection task. However, the deep models are task-specific and data set bias often exists, thus it is difficult to transfer a network trained on one multi-temporal data set (source domain) to another multi-temporal data set with very limited (even no) labeled data (target domain). In this paper, we propose a novel deep siamese domain adaptation convolutional neural network (DSDANet) architecture for cross-domain change detection. In DSDANet, a siamese convolutional neural network first extracts spatial-spectral features f…
Siamese networks are widely used for remote sensing change detection tasks. A vanilla siamese network has two identical feature extraction branches which share weights, these two branches work independently and the feature maps are not fused until about to be sent to a decoder head. However we find that it is critical to exchange information between two feature extraction branches at early stage for change detection task. In this work we present Mutual-Attention Siamese Network (MASNet), a general siamese network with mutual-attention plug-in, so to exchange information between the two feature…

A critical challenge problem of scene change detection is that noisy changes generated by varying illumination, shadows and camera viewpoint make variances of a scene difficult to define and measure since the noisy changes and semantic ones are entangled. Following the intuitive idea of detecting changes by directly comparing dissimilarities between a pair of features, we propose a novel fully Convolutional siamese metric Network(CosimNet) to measure changes by customizing implicit metrics. To learn more discriminative metrics, we utilize contrastive loss to reduce the distance between the unc…

Given two multi-temporal aerial images, semantic change detection aims to locate the land-cover variations and identify their change types with pixel-wise boundaries. This problem is vital in many earth vision related tasks, such as precise urban planning and natural resource management. Existing state-of-the-art algorithms mainly identify the changed pixels by applying homogeneous operations on each input image and comparing the extracted features. However, in changed regions, totally different land-cover distributions often require heterogeneous features extraction procedures w.r.t each inpu…

The problem of image change detection via everyday indoor robot navigation is explored from a novel perspective of the self-attention technique. Detecting semantically non-distinctive and visually small changes remains a key challenge in the robotics community. Intuitively, these small non-distinctive changes may be better handled by the recent paradigm of the attention mechanism, which is the basic idea of this work. However, existing self-attention models require significant retraining cost per domain, so it is not directly applicable to robotics applications. We propose a new self-attention…

Deep Siamese trackers have recently gained much attention in recent years since they can track visual objects at high speeds. Additionally, adaptive tracking methods, where target samples collected by the tracker are employed for online learning, have achieved state-of-the-art accuracy. However, single object tracking (SOT) remains a challenging task in real-world application due to changes and deformations in a target object's appearance. Learning on all the collected samples may lead to catastrophic forgetting, and thereby corrupt the tracking model. In this paper, SOT is formulated as an on…
Change detection (CD) is one of the most vital applications in remote sensing. Recently, deep learning has achieved promising performance in the CD task. However, the deep models are task-specific and CD data set bias often exists, hence it is inevitable that deep CD models would suffer degraded performance after transferring it from original CD data set to new ones, making manually label numerous samples in the new data set unavoidable, which costs a large amount of time and human labor. How to learn a transferable CD model in the data set with enough labeled data (original domain) but can we…

Change detection is a basic task of remote sensing image processing. The research objective is to identity the change information of interest and filter out the irrelevant change information as interference factors. Recently, the rise of deep learning has provided new tools for change detection, which have yielded impressive results. However, the available methods focus mainly on the difference information between multitemporal remote sensing images and lack robustness to pseudo-change information. To overcome the lack of resistance of current methods to pseudo-changes, in this paper, we propo…
This paper presents three fully convolutional neural network architectures which perform change detection using a pair of coregistered images. Most notably, we propose two Siamese extensions of fully convolutional networks which use heuristics about the current problem to achieve the best results in our tests on two open change detection datasets, using both RGB and multispectral images. We show that our system is able to learn from scratch using annotated change detection images. Our architectures achieve better performance than previously proposed methods, while being at least 500 times fast…

RGB-D SOD uses depth information to handle challenging scenes and obtain high-quality saliency maps. Existing state-of-the-art RGB-D saliency detection methods overwhelmingly rely on the strategy of directly fusing depth information. Although these methods improve the accuracy of saliency prediction through various cross-modality fusion strategies, misinformation provided by some poor-quality depth images can affect the saliency prediction result. To address this issue, a novel RGB-D salient object detection model (SiaTrans) is proposed in this paper, which allows training on depth image quali…

Very-high-resolution (VHR) images can provide abundant ground details and spatial geometric information. Change detection in multi-temporal VHR images plays a significant role in urban expansion and area internal change analysis. Nevertheless, traditional change detection methods can neither take full advantage of spatial context information nor cope with the complex internal heterogeneity of VHR images. In this paper, a powerful feature extraction model entitled multi-scale feature convolution unit (MFCU) is adopted for change detection in multi-temporal VHR images. MFCU can extract multi-sca…

Change detection (CD) aims to find the difference between two images at different times and outputs a change map to represent whether the region has changed or not. To achieve a better result in generating the change map, many State-of-The-Art (SoTA) methods design a deep learning model that has a powerful discriminative ability. However, these methods still get lower performance because they ignore spatial information and scaling changes between objects, giving rise to blurry or wrong boundaries. In addition to these, they also neglect the interactive information of two different images. To a…

Visual object tracking is an important function in many real-time video surveillance applications, such as localization and spatio-temporal recognition of persons. In real-world applications, an object detector and tracker must interact on a periodic basis to discover new objects, and thereby to initiate tracks. Periodic interactions with the detector can also allow the tracker to validate and/or update its object template with new bounding boxes. However, bounding boxes provided by a state-of-the-art detector are noisy, due to changes in appearance, background and occlusion, which can cause t…

Self-supervised learning has shown superior performances over supervised methods on various vision benchmarks. The siamese network, which encourages embeddings to be invariant to distortions, is one of the most successful self-supervised visual representation learning approaches. Among all the augmentation methods, masking is the most general and straightforward method that has the potential to be applied to all kinds of input and requires the least amount of domain knowledge. However, masked siamese networks require particular inductive bias and practically only work well with Vision Transfor…
Change detection (CD) is an important problem in remote sensing, especially in disaster time for urban management. Most existing traditional methods for change detection are categorized based on pixel or objects. Object-based models are preferred to pixel-based methods for handling very high-resolution remote sensing (VHR RS) images. Such methods can benefit from the ongoing research on deep learning. In this paper, a fully automatic change-detection algorithm on VHR RS images is proposed that deploys Fully Convolutional Siamese Concatenate networks (FC-Siam-Conc). The proposed method uses pre…

Siamese trackers perform similarity matching with templates (i.e., target models) to recursively localize objects within a search region. Several strategies have been proposed in the literature to update a template based on the tracker output, typically extracted from the target search region in the current frame, and thereby mitigate the effects of target drift. However, this may lead to corrupted templates, limiting the potential benefits of a template update strategy. This paper proposes a model adaptation method for Siamese trackers that uses a generative model to produce a synthetic templ…

We propose a novel zero-shot multi-frame image restoration method for removing unwanted obstruction elements (such as rains, snow, and moire patterns) that vary in successive frames. It has three stages: transformer pre-training, zero-shot restoration, and hard patch refinement. Using the pre-trained transformers, our model is able to tell the motion difference between the true image information and the obstructing elements. For zero-shot image restoration, we design a novel model, termed SiamTrans, which is constructed by Siamese transformers, encoders, and decoders. Each transformer has a te…
Deep learning based change detection methods have received wide attentoion, thanks to their strong capability in obtaining rich features from images. However, existing AI-based CD methods largely rely on three functionality-enhancing modules, i.e., semantic enhancement, attention mechanisms, and correspondence enhancement. The stacking of these modules leads to great model complexity. To unify these three modules into a simple pipeline, we introduce Relational Change Detection Transformer (RCDT), a novel and simple framework for remote sensing change detection tasks. The proposed RCDT consists…

Siamese network based trackers formulate 3D single object tracking as cross-correlation learning between point features of a template and a search area. Due to the large appearance variation between the template and search area during tracking, how to learn the robust cross correlation between them for identifying the potential target in the search area is still a challenging problem. In this paper, we explicitly use Transformer to form a 3D Siamese Transformer network for learning robust cross correlation between the template and the search area of point clouds. Specifically, we develop a Sia…
Semi-supervised video object segmentation (VOS) refers to segmenting the target object in remaining frames given its annotation in the first frame, which has been actively studied in recent years. In this paper, we propose a novel Siamese network with a specifically designed interactive transformer, called SITVOS, to enable effective context propagation from historical to current frames. Technically, we use the transformer e…

Packaged fresh-cut lettuce is widely consumed as a major component of vegetable salad owing to its high nutrition, freshness, and convenience. However, enzymatic browning discoloration on lettuce cut edges significantly reduces product quality and shelf life. While there are many research and breeding efforts underway to minimize browning, the progress is hindered by the lack of a rapid and reliable methodology to evaluate browning. Current methods to identify and quantify browning are either too subjective, labor intensive, or inaccurate. In this paper, we report a deep learning model for let…

To better understand current trends of urban population growth in Sub-Saharan Africa, high-quality spatiotemporal population estimates are necessary. While the joint use of remote sensing and deep learning has achieved promising results for population distribution estimation, most of the current work focuses on fine-scale spatial predictions derived from single date census, thereby neglecting temporal analyses. In this work, we focus on evaluating how deep learning change detection techniques can unravel temporal population dynamics at short intervals. Since Post-Classification Comparison (PCC…
