The top quark is the heaviest known elementary particle of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics and, therefore, it is expected to have large couplings to hypothetical new physics in many models beyond the SM (BSM). Various studies have predicted the presence of multi-lepton anomalies at the LHC. One of those anomalies is the excess production of two same-sign leptons and three isolated leptons in association with $b$-jets. These are reasonably well described by a 2HDM+$S$ model, where $S$ is a singlet scalar. Both the ATLAS and CMS experiments have reported sustained excesses in these final states. This includes corners of the phase-space where production of top quark pairs in association with a $W$ boson contributes to. Here, we investigate the production of two same-sign and three leptons from the production of four top quark final states. Our focus is on understanding the differences between the SM and BSM production mechanisms of four top quarks from $t\overline{t} A$ ($A \rightarrow t\overline{t}$) using Machine Leaning techniques with twelve discriminating kinematic variables.
In these proceedings I review recent theoretical predictions describing processes involving vector bosons and jets at the LHC. Such processes possess very distinctive phenomenologies and their theoretical accuracy is very different. I focus here on three illustrative cases: the production of a Z boson in association with a b jet, W-pair production in association with a jet, and vector-boson scattering. Some of these theoretical results are also compared to experimental data.
The higgsino Lightest Supersymmetric Particle (LSP) scenario opens up the possibility of decays of strongly produced particles to an intermediate neutralino, due to the Yukawa-suppressed direct decays to the higgsino. Those decays produce multijet signals with a Higgs or a $Z$ boson being produced in the decay of the intermediate neutralino to the LSP. In this paper we study the discovery prospects of squarks that produce $b$-jets and leptons in the final state. Our collider analysis provides signal significances at the 3$σ$ level for luminosities of 1 ab$^{-1}$, and at the 5$σ$ level if we pr…
We study the decay of the $Z$ vector boson into a photon and a massless (invisible) dark photon in high-energy collisions. The photon can be used as trigger for the event, while the dark photon is detected indirectly as missing momentum in the event final state. We investigate the possibility of searching for such a dark photon at the LHC, HL-LHC and future lepton colliders, and compare the respective sensitivities. As expected, the best result is found for the lepton colliders running at the $Z$ mass, FCC-ee and CEPC, with a final sensitivity to branching ratios of order $O(10^{-11})$. We als…
This Letter proposes a new search for confining dark sectors at the Large Hadron Collider. As a result of the strong dynamics in the hidden sector, dark matter could manifest in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider in form of hadronic jets containing stable invisible bound states. These semi-visible jets have been studied theoretically and experimentally in the fully hadronic signature where the unstable composite dark matter can only decay promptly back to Standard Model quarks. We present a simplified model based on two messenger fields separated by a large mass gap allowing…
We demonstrate the potential of fully leptonic cascade decays of a heavy neutral Higgs boson through vectorlike leptons as a simultaneous probe for extended Higgs sectors and extra matter particles at the LHC. The processes we explore are unique in that their event topologies lead to di-boson-like leptonic final states with a lepton pair which does not reconstruct the mass of a gauge boson. By recasting existing $2\ell + E_T^{\rm miss}$ and $3/4\ell$ searches channels using run2 data from the LHC we obtain $\textit{model independent}$ bounds on the masses of heavy scalars and vectorlike lepton…
