Five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory with an Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Lagrangian induces nonlinear corrections to the four-dimensional Maxwell equations, which however remain second order. Although these corrections do not have effect on the purely electric or magnetic monopole solutions for pointlike charges, they affect the dyonic solutions, smoothing the electric field at the origin for negative values of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant. We investigate these solutions in flat space, and then extend them in the presence of gravity, obtaining charged black hole solutions that generalize the Reissner-Nordström metric.
New spherically symmetric dyonic solutions, describing a wormhole-like class of spacetime configurations in five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory, are given in an explicit form. For this type of solution the electric and magnetic fields cause a significantly different global structure. For the electric dominated case, the solution is everywhere regular but, when the magnetic strength overcomes the electric contribution, the mouths of the wormhole become singular points. When the electric and magnetic charge parameters are identical, the throats ``degenerate'' and the solution reduces to the tri…
We study cylindrically symmetric Abelian wormholes (WhC) in $(4+n)$-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory. It is shown that static, four-dimensional, cylindrically symmetric solutions in $(4+n)$-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory with maximal Abelian isometry group $U(1)^n$ of the internal space with diagonal internal metric can be obtained, as in the case of a supersymmetric static black hole \cite{Cv}, only if the isometry group of the internal space is broken down to the $U (1)_e \times U(1)_m$ gauge group; they correspond to dyonic configurations with one electric $(Q_e)$ and one magnetic $(Q_m)$ c…
In this paper, we investigate a class of $5$-dimensional black holes in the presence of Gauss-Bonnet gravity with dyonic charges. At first step, thermodynamical quantities of the black holes and their behaviors are explored for different limits. Thermal stability and the possibility of the van der Waals like phase transition are addressed and the effects of different parameters on them are investigated. The second part is devoted to simulation of the trajectory of particles around these black holes and investigation of the angular frequency of particles' motion. The main goal is understanding …
We study thermodynamical properties of static dyonic AdS black holes in four-dimensional $ω$-deformed Kaluza-Klein gauged supergravity theory, and find that the differential first law requires a modification via introducing a new pair of thermodynamical conjugate variables (X, Y). To ensure such a modification, we then apply the quasi-local ADT formalism developed in Ref. [20] to calculate the quasi-local conserved charge and identify that the new pair is precisely the one previously introduced to modify the differential form of first law.
We complete the study of 4-dimensional (4-d), static, spherically symmetric, supersymmetric black holes (BH's) in Abelian $(4+n)$-d Kaluza-Klein theory, by showing that for such solutions $n$ electric charges $\vec{\cal Q} \equiv (Q_1,...,Q_n)$ and $n$ magnetic charges $\vec{\cal P} \equiv (P_1,...,P_n)$ are subject to the constraint $\vec{\cal P}\cdot \vec{\cal Q}=0$. All such solutions can be obtained by performing the SO(n) rotations, which do not affect the 4-d space-time metric and the volume of the internal space, on the supersymmetric $U(1)_M\times U(1)_E$ BH's, {\it i.e.}, supersymmetr…
We study the phase space of the spherically symmetric solutions of Einstein-Maxwell-Gauss-Bonnet system nonminimally coupled to a scalar field and prove the existence of solutions with unusual asymptotics in addition to asymptotically flat ones. We also find new dyonic solutions of dilatonic Einstein-Maxwell theory.
We propose a new nonabelian Kaluza-Klein dyon solution in the seven-dimensional spacetimes. This is a Wu-Yang-like Kaluza-Klein dyon. The dyonic metric is spherically symmetric, two spherical coordinate systems are used, and the metric admits SO(3) Killing vectors. It can be verified that the Einstein equation is satisfied in seven-dimensional spacetimes. The stress-energy tensor of the Yang-Mills field in Einstein equation is derived from Ricci tensor automatically, not put by hand from outside. The Ricci scalar curvature \bar{R} vanishes. The four-dimensional part of the dyonic metric is jus…
In this article we study the geodesic motion of charged particles in the spacetime of an extremal rotating dyonic black hole in Kaluza-Klein theory. We derive the equations of motion and present their analytical solutions in terns of elliptic and hyperelliptic functions. Furthermore, we analyze the geodesic motions with the help of parametric diagrams and effective potentials.
The action of four-dimensional Horndeski gravity coupled to Born-Infeld electromagnetic fields is given via the Kaluza-Klein process. Dyonic black hole solution of the theory is constructed. The metric is devoid of singularity at the origin independent of the parameter selections, this property is different from the one of Einstein-Born-Infeld black holes. Thermodynamics of the black hole is studied, thermodynamic quantities are calculated and the first law is checked to be satisfied. Thermodynamic phase transitions of the black holes are studied in extended phase space.
We study supersymmetric, four-dimensional (4-d), Abelian charged black holes (BH's) arising in (4+n)-d (1 \le n \le 7) Kaluza-Klein (KK) theories. Such solutions, which satisfy supersymmetric Killing spinor equations (formally satisfied for any n) and saturate the corresponding Bogomol'nyi bounds, can be obtained if and only if the isometry group of the internal space is broken down to the U(1)_E \times U(1)_M gauge group; they correspond to dyonic BH's with electric Q and magnetic P charges associated with {\it different} U(1) factors. The internal metric of such configurations is diagonal wi…
The most general electrically and magnetically charged rotating black hole solutions of 5 dimensional \KK\ theory are given in an explicit form. Various classical quantities associated with the black holes are derived. In particular, one finds the very surprising result that the gyromagnetic and gyroelectric ratios can become {\tenit arbitrarily large}. The thermodynamic quantities of the black holes are calculated and a Smarr-type formula is obtained leading to a generalized first law of black hole thermodynamics. The properties of the extreme solutions are investigated and it is shown how th…
We make a systematic investigation of stationary cylindrically symmetric solutions to the five-dimensional Einstein and Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet equations. Apart from the five-dimensional neutral cosmic string metric, we find two new exact solutions which qualify as cosmic strings, one corresponding to an electrically charged cosmic string, the other to an extended superconducting cosmic string surrounding a charged core. In both cases, test particles are deflected away from the singular line source. We extend both kinds of solutions to exact multi-cosmic string solutions.
In this paper we revisit and extend the prior work of Filho and Bezerra [Phys. Rev D, 64, 084009 (2001)] to rotating dyonic global monopoles in presence of a perfect fluid. We then show that the surface topology at the event horizon, related to the metric computed, is a 2- sphere using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. By choosing $ω=-1/3, 0, 1/3$ we investigate the effect of dark matter, dust, radiation on the silhouette of black hole. The presence of the global monopole parameter $γ$ and the perfect fluid parameters $\upsilon$, also deforms the shape of black hole's shadow, which has been depicted t…

We consider Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity in $n(\ge 6)$-dimensional Kaluza-Klein spacetime ${\ma M}^{4} \times {\ma K}^{n-4}$, where ${\ma K}^{n-4}$ is the Einstein space with negative curvature. In the case where ${\ma K}^{n-4}$ is the space of negative constant curvature, we have recently obtained a new static black-hole solution (Phys. Rev. D {\bf 74}, 021501(R) (2006), hep-th/0605031) which is a pure gravitational creation including Maxwell field in four-dimensional vacuum spacetime. The solution has been generalized to make it radially radiate null radiation representing gravitational cre…
By considering the product of the usual four dimensional spacetime with two dimensional space of constant curvature, an interesting black hole solution has recently been found for Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. It turns out that this as well as all others could easily be made to radiate Vaidya null dust. However there exists no Kerr analogue in this setting. To get the physical feel of the four dimensional black hole spacetimes, we study asymptotic behavior of stresses at the two ends, $r\to0$ and $r\to\infty$.

A class of 4-dimensional supersymmetric dyonic black hole solutions that arise in an effective 11-dimensional supergravity compactified on a 7-torus is presented. We give the explicit form of dyonic solutions with diagonal internal metric, associated with the Kaluza-Klein sector as well as the three-form field, and relate them to a class of solutions with a general internal metric by imposing a subset of $SO(7)\subset E_7$ transformations. We also give the field transformations which relate the above configurations to 4-dimensional ground state configurations of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz…
S-duality of hetertotic / type II string theory compactified on a six dimensional torus requires the existence of Kaluza-Klein dyons, carrying winding charge. We identify the zero modes of the Kaluza-Klein monopole solution which are responsible for these dyonic excitations, and show that we get the correct degeneracy of dyons as predicted by S-duality. The self-dual harmonic two form on the Euclidean Taub-NUT space plays a crucial role in this construction.
In four dimensions a Gauss-Bonnet term in the action corre- sponds to a total derivative, and it does not contribute to the classical equations of motion. For higher-dimensional geometries this term has the interesting property (shared with other dimensionally continued Euler densities) that when the action is varied with respect to the metric, it gives rise to a symmetric, covariantly conserved tensor of rank two which is a function of the metric and its first and second order derivatives. Here we review the unification of General Relativity and electromagnetism in the classical five-dimen- s…
Conformal field theories corresponding to two-dimensional electrically charged black holes and to two-dimensional anti-de Sitter space with a covariantly constant electric field are simply constructed as $SL(2,R)/Z$ WZW coset models. The two-dimensional electrically charged black holes are related by Kaluza-Klein reduction to the 2+1-dimensional rotating black hole of Banados, Teitelboim and Zanelli, and our construction is correspondingly related to its realization as a WZW model. Four-dimensional spacetime solutions are obtained by tensoring these two-dimensional theories with $SU(2)/Z(m)$ c…
An off-shell generalization of the Abbott-Deser-Tekin (ADT) conserved charge was recently proposed by Kim et al. They achieved this by introducing off-shell Noether currents and potentials. In this paper, we construct the crucial off-shell Noether current by the variation of the Bianchi identity for the expression of motion equation, with the help of the property of Killing vector. Our Noether current, which contains an additional term that is just one half of the Lie derivative of a surface term with respect to the Killing vector, takes a different form in comparison with the one in their wor…
Electromagnetic Quasinormal modes of Dyonic AdS black holes with quasi-topological electromagnetism in a Horndeski gravity theory mimicking EGB gravity at $D \rightarrow 4$
We obtain a new exact black-hole solution in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with a cosmological constant which bears a specific relation to the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant. The spacetime is a product of the usual 4-dimensional manifold with a $(n-4)$-dimensional space of constant negative curvature, i.e., its topology is locally ${\ma M}^n \approx {\ma M}^4 \times {\ma H}^{n-4}$. The solution has two parameters and asymptotically approximates to the field of a charged black hole in anti-de Sitter spacetime. The most interesting and remarkable feature is that the Gauss-Bonnet term acts like a…
We show that rotating dyonic black holes with static and counterrotating horizon exist in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory when the dilaton coupling constant exceeds the Kaluza-Klein value. The black holes with static horizon bifurcate from the static black holes. Their mass decreases with increasing angular momentum, their horizons are prolate.
Motivated by recent work on the Modified Maxwell (ModMax) black holes [Phys.Lett.B 10.1016/j.physletb.2020.136011], which are invariant in duality rotations and conformal transformations founded in [ Phys.Rev.D 10.1103/PhysRevD.102.121703], we probe its effects on the shadow cast, weak field gravitational lensing, and neutrino propagation in its vicinity. Using the EHT data for the shadow diameter of Sgr. A* and M87*, and LIGO/VIRGO experiments for the dyonic ModMax black hole perturbations, we find constraints for ModMax parameters such as $Q_\text{m}$ and the screening factor $γ$. We also an…
In this paper we study the role of the 5D Gauss-Bonnet corrections and two loop higher genus contribution to the gravity action in type IIB string theory inspired low energy supergravity theory in the light of gravidilatonic interactions on the lightest Kaluza-Klein graviton mass spectrum. From the latest constraints on the lightest Kaluza-Klein graviton mass as obtained from the ATLAS dilepton search in 7 TeV proton-proton collision, we have shown that due to the presence of Gauss-Bonnet and string loop corrections, the warping solution in an ${\bf AdS_{5}}$ bulk is quite distinct from Randal…
We extend the recent microscopic analysis of extremal dyonic Kaluza-Klein (D0-D6) black holes to cover the regime of fast rotation in addition to slow rotation. Fastly rotating black holes, in contrast to slow ones, have non-zero angular velocity and possess ergospheres, so they are more similar to the Kerr black hole. The D-brane model reproduces their entropy exactly, but the mass gets renormalized from weak to strong coupling, in agreement with recent macroscopic analyses of rotating attractors. We discuss how the existence of the ergosphere and superradiance manifest themselves within the …
We study the role of the Gauss-Bonnet corrections and two loop higher genus contribution to the gravity action on the Kaluza-Klien modes and their interactions for different bulk fields which enable one to study various phenomenological implications of string loop corrected Gauss-Bonnet modified warped geometry model in one canvas. We have explicitly derived a phenomenological bound on the Gauss-Bonnet parameter so that the required Planck to TeV scale hierarchy can be achieved through the warp factor in the light of recently discovered Higgs like boson at 125 GeV. Moreover due to the presence…
Kaluza-Klein (KK) black hole solutions in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity in $D$ dimensions obtained in the current series of the works by Maeda, Dadhich and Molina are examined. Interpreting their solutions, the authors claim that the mass/matter is created by the extra dimensions. To support this claim, one needs to show that such objects have classically defined masses. We calculate the mass and mass flux for 3D KK black holes in 6D EGB gravity whose properties are sufficiently physically interesting. Superpotentials for arbitrary types of perturbations on arbitrary curved backgroun…
We summarize the results for four-dimensional Bogomol'nyi-Prasad- Sommerfield (BPS) saturated dyonic black hole solutions arising in the Kaluza-Klein sector and the three-form field sector of the eleven-dimensional supergravity on a seven-torus. These black hole solutions break $3\over 4$ of $N=8$ supersymmetry, fill out the multipletes of $U$-duality group, and the two classes of solutions are related to each other by a discrete symmetry transformation in $E_7$. Using the field redefinitions of the corresponding effective actions, we present these solutions in terms of fields describing class…
In the framework of an arbitrary $D$-dimensional metric theory, perturbations are considered on arbitrary backgrounds that are however solutions of the theory. Conserved currents for perturbations are presented following two known prescriptions: canonical Nœther theorem and Belinfante symmetrization rule. Using generalized formulae, currents in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity for arbitrary types of perturbations on arbitrary curved backgrounds (not only vacuum) are constructed in an explicit covariant form. Special attention is paid to the energy-momentum tensors for perturbations whic…
We review some properties of the Einstein-"Gauss-Bonnet" equations for gravity--also called the Einstein-Lanczos equations in five and six dimensions, and the Lovelock equations in higher dimensions. We illustrate, by means of simple Kaluza-Klein and brane cosmological models, some consequences of the quasi-linearity of these equations on the Cauchy problem (a point first studied by Yvonne Choquet-Bruhat), as well as on "junction conditions".
We apply Brown-Henneaux's method to the 5D extremal rotating Kaluza-Klein black holes essentially following the calculation of the Kerr/CFT correspondence, which is not based on supersymmetry nor string theory. We find that there are two completely different Virasoro algebras that can be obtained as the asymptotic symmetry algebras according to appropriate boundary conditions. The microscopic entropies are calculated by using the Cardy formula for both boundary conditions and they perfectly agree with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. The rotating Kaluza-Klein black holes contain a 4D dyonic Rei…
In this thesis we investigate certain cosmological brane world models of the Randall-Sundrum type. The models are motivated by string theory but we focus on the phenomenology of the cosmology. Two models of specific interest are the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP, induced-gravity) model, where the brane action is modified, and the Gauss-Bonnet model where the bulk action is modified. Both of these modifications maybe motivated by string theory. We provide a brief review of Randall-Sundrum models and then consider the Kaluza-Klein modes on Minkowski and de Sitter branes, in both the two and one b…
A thick brane model with Gauss-Bonnet action in a homogeneous anisotropic $D=(4+1+d)$ spacetime is studied. By choosing a concrete metric ansatz, we show that this spacetime is stable against linear tensor perturbations under certain conditions. The graviton zero modes are also given. Besides, we examine a particular example in six-dimensional spacetime with a given warp factor. The coupled background scalar field and its potential are solved analytically. Furthermore, the effective potential of the Kaluza-Klein modes of the graviton is also discussed. We found that the effective potential can…
We summarize results for all four-dimensional Bogomol'nyi-Sommerfield-Prasat (BPS) saturated and non-extreme solutions of the ($4+n$)-dimensional Abelian Kaluza-Klein theory. Within effective N=4 supersymmetric string vacua, parameterized in terms of fields of the heterotic string on a six-torus, we then present a class of BPS saturated states and the corresponding non-extreme solutions, specified by $O(6,22,Z)$ and $SL(2,Z)$ orbits of general dyonic charge configurations with zero axion. The BPS saturated states with non-negative $O(6,22,Z)$ norms for electric and magnetic charge vectors, alo…
In regularized 4-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity derived from a Kaluza-Klein reduction of higher-dimensional EGB theory, we study the existence and stability of black hole (BH) solutions on a static and spherically symmetric background. We show that asymptotically-flat hairy BH solutions realized for a spatially-flat maximally symmetric internal space are unstable against linear perturbations for any rescaled GB coupling constant. This instability is present for the angular propagation of even-parity perturbations both in the vicinity of an event horizon and at spatial infinity…
Models with a scalar field coupled to the Gauss-Bonnet Lagrangian appear naturally from Kaluza-Klein compactifications of pure higher-dimensional gravity. We study linear, cosmological perturbations in the limits of weak coupling and slow-roll, and derive simple expressions for the main observable sub-horizon quantities: the anisotropic stress factor, the time-dependent gravitational constant, and the matter perturbation growth factor. Using present observational data, and assuming slow-roll for the dark energy field, we find that the fraction of energy density associated with the coupled Gaus…
Four-dimensional gravity in the presence of a dilatonic scalar field and an Abelian gauge field is considered. This theory corresponds to the bosonic sector of a Kaluza-Klein dimensional reduction of eleven-dimensional supergravity which induces a determined self-interacting potential for the scalar field. We compute the conserved charges and carry out the thermodynamics of an anti-de Sitter (AdS) dyonic black hole solution recently proposed. The charges coming from symmetries of the action are computed by using the Regge-Teitelboim Hamiltonian approach. These correspond to the mass, which acq…
We consider the Weyl$-$Yang gauge theory of gravitation in a $(4+3)$-dimensional curved space-time within the scenario of the non-Abelian Kaluza$-$Klein theory for the source and torsion-free limits. The explicit forms of the field equations containing a new spin current term and the energy-momentum tensors in the usual four dimensions are obtained through the well-known dimensional reduction procedure. In this limit, these field equations admit (anti-)dyon and magnetic (anti-)monopole solutions as well as non-Einsteinian solutions in the presence of a generalized Wu$-$Yang ansatz and some spe…
We consider the action principles that are the lower dimensional limits of the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity {\it via} the Kaluza-Klein route. We study the vacua and obtain some exact solutions. We find that the reality condition of the theories may select one vacuum over the other from the two vacua that typically arise in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We obtain exact black hole and cosmological solutions carrying scalar hair, including scalar hairy BTZ black holes with both mass and angular momentum turned on. We also discuss the holographic central charges in the asymptotic AdS backgrounds…
We consider the third order Lovelock equations without the cosmological constant term in an empty $n(\geq 8)$-dimensional Kaluza-Klein spacetime $\mathcal{M}^{4}\times \mathcal{K}^{n-4}$, where $\mathcal{K}^{n-4}$ is a constant curvature space. We show that the emptiness of the higher-dimensional spacetime imposes a constraint on the metric function(s) of 4-dimensional spacetime $\mathcal{M}^{4}$. We consider the effects of this constraint equation in the context of black hole physics, and find a black hole solution in 4 dimensions in the absence of matter field and the cosmological constant (…
We summarize recent results on $D$-dimensional Robinson-Trautman solutions of Einstein's gravity in the presence of a conformally invariant non-linear electromagnetic field and a cosmological constant. These spacetimes contain static dyonic black holes with various horizon geometries and their time-dependent radiating generalizations, as well as a class of stealth solutions. Extensions to $f(R)$ and Gauss-Bonnet gravity are mentioned.
A four-dimensional static Schwarzschild-like solution obtained in [3]-[6] in the frames of the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity at the Kaluza-Klein split is analyzed. The matter in these solutions is created by auxiliary dimensions. The main goal of our work is to study physically sensible characteristics, which could be observable. Study of the perturbed equations demonstrates their stability under linear perturbations. The specific combinations of the parameters, permitting to construct black hole-like objects with one or two horizons or naked singularities are determined. Stable orbits of test…
Galileons are stable null energy condition (NEC) violating perturbations. If these NEC violating modes are coupled to Einstein gravity, they can cause violation of the second law of black hole thermodynamics. We demonstrate that galileons can only be coupled to quadratic gravity since they are generated by consistent Kaluza-Klein reduction of the Einstein-Hilbert-Gauss-Bonnet action from 10-dimensions to 4-dimensions. As a result, the NEC violation of galileons can no longer be the source of the violation of the second law of black hole thermodynamics.
In Horndeski theories containing a scalar coupling with the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) curvature invariant $R_{\rm GB}^2$, we study the existence and linear stability of neutron star (NS) solutions on a static and spherically symmetric background. For a scalar-GB coupling of the form $αξ(ϕ) R_{\rm GB}^2$, where $ξ$ is a function of the scalar field $ϕ$, the existence of linearly stable stars with a nontrivial scalar profile without instabilities puts an upper bound on the strength of the dimensionless coupling constant $|α|$. To realize maximum masses of NSs for a linear (or dilatonic) GB coupling $α_{…
