Location and appearance are the key cues for video object segmentation. Many sources such as RGB, depth, optical flow and static saliency can provide useful information about the objects. However, existing approaches only utilize the RGB or RGB and optical flow. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-source fusion network for zero-shot video object segmentation. With the help of interoceptive spatial attention module (ISAM), spatial importance of each source is highlighted. Furthermore, we design a feature purification module (FPM) to filter the inter-source incompatible features. By the ISAM and FPM, the multi-source features are effectively fused. In addition, we put forward an automatic predictor selection network (APS) to select the better prediction of either the static saliency predictor or the moving object predictor in order to prevent over-reliance on the failed results caused by low-quality optical flow maps. Extensive experiments on three challenging public benchmarks (i.e. DAVIS$_{16}$, Youtube-Objects and FBMS) show that the proposed model achieves compelling performance against the state-of-the-arts. The source code will be publicly available at \textcolor{red}{\url{https://github.com/Xiaoqi-Zhao-DLUT/Multi-Source-APS-ZVOS}}.
This paper presents a method for automatic video object segmentation based on the fusion of motion stream, appearance stream, and instance-aware segmentation. The proposed scheme consists of a two-stream fusion network and an instance segmentation network. The two-stream fusion network again consists of motion and appearance stream networks, which extract long-term temporal and spatial information, respectively. Unlike the existing two-stream fusion methods, the proposed fusion network blends the two streams at the original resolution for obtaining accurate segmentation boundary. We develop a …
This paper proposes a novel luminance adjustment method based on automatic exposure compensation for multi-exposure image fusion. Multi-exposure image fusion is a method to produce images without saturation regions, by using photos with different exposures. In conventional works, it has been pointed out that the quality of those multi-exposure images can be improved by adjusting the luminance of them. However, how to determine the degree of adjustment has never been discussed. This paper therefore proposes a way to automatically determines the degree on the basis of the luminance distribution …

In this paper we describe an approach to semi-automatically create a labelled dataset for semantic segmentation of urban street-level point clouds. We use data fusion techniques using public data sources such as elevation data and large-scale topographical maps to automatically label parts of the point cloud, after which only limited human effort is needed to check the results and make amendments where needed. This drastically limits the time needed to create a labelled dataset that is extensive enough to train deep semantic segmentation models. We apply our method to point clouds of the Amste…
RGB-D salient object detection (SOD) is usually formulated as a problem of classification or regression over two modalities, i.e., RGB and depth. Hence, effective RGBD feature modeling and multi-modal feature fusion both play a vital role in RGB-D SOD. In this paper, we propose a depth-sensitive RGB feature modeling scheme using the depth-wise geometric prior of salient objects. In principle, the feature modeling scheme is carried out in a depth-sensitive attention module, which leads to the RGB feature enhancement as well as the background distraction reduction by capturing the depth geometry…

Automatic map extraction is of great importance to urban computing and location-based services. Aerial image and GPS trajectory data refer to two different data sources that could be leveraged to generate the map, although they carry different types of information. Most previous works on data fusion between aerial images and data from auxiliary sensors do not fully utilize the information of both modalities and hence suffer from the issue of information loss. We propose a deep convolutional neural network called DeepDualMapper which fuses the aerial image and trajectory data in a more seamless…
We propose an end-to-end learning framework for segmenting generic objects in videos. Our method learns to combine appearance and motion information to produce pixel level segmentation masks for all prominent objects in videos. We formulate this task as a structured prediction problem and design a two-stream fully convolutional neural network which fuses together motion and appearance in a unified framework. Since large-scale video datasets with pixel level segmentations are problematic, we show how to bootstrap weakly annotated videos together with existing image recognition datasets for trai…

Experiments are conducted on the Chinese Cardiovascular Disease Database (CCDD). Through 10-fold cross-validation, we achieve an average accuracy of 87.04% and a sensitivity of 89.93%, which outperforms previous methods under the same datab…
High-dynamic-range (HDR) photography involves fusing a bracket of images taken at different exposure settings in order to compensate for the low dynamic range of digital cameras such as the ones used in smartphones. In this paper, a method for automatically selecting the exposure settings of such images is introduced based on the camera characteristic function. In addition, a new fusion method is introduced based on an optimization formulation and weighted averaging. Both of these methods are implemented on a smartphone platform as an HDR app to demonstrate the practicality of the introduced m…

Accurate segmentation of the right ventricle (RV) is a crucial step in the assessment of the ventricular structure and function. Yet, due to its complex anatomy and motion segmentation of the RV has not been as largely studied as the left ventricle. This paper presents a fully automatic method for the segmentation of the RV in cardiac magnetic resonance images (MRI). The method uses a coarse-to-fine segmentation strategy in combination with a multi-atlas propagation segmentation framework. Based on a cross correlation metric, our method selects the best atlases for propagation allowing the ref…

Liver lesion segmentation is a difficult yet critical task for medical image analysis. Recently, deep learning based image segmentation methods have achieved promising performance, which can be divided into three categories: 2D, 2.5D and 3D, based on the dimensionality of the models. However, 2.5D and 3D methods can have very high complexity and 2D methods may not perform satisfactorily. To obtain competitive performance with low complexity, in this paper, we propose a Feature-fusion Encoder-Decoder Network (FED-Net) based 2D segmentation model to tackle the challenging problem of liver lesion…

Compared to existing 3D CNNs like DeepMedic, 3D U-Net, and AnatomyNet, our networks achieves the highest statistically significant cross-validation accuracy of 60.5% on the large ATLAS benchmark of 220 patients. We also test our model on multi-modal…

Automatic kinship verification aims to determine whether some individuals belong to the same family. It is of great research significance to help missing persons reunite with their families. In this work, the challenging problem is progressively addressed in two respects. First, we propose a deep siamese network to quantify the relative similarity between two individuals. When given two input face images, the deep siamese network extracts the features from them and fuses these features by combining and concatenating. Then, the fused features are fed into a fully-connected network to obtain the…
Distracted driving is deadly, claiming 3,477 lives in the U.S. in 2015 alone. Although there has been a considerable amount of research on modeling the distracted behavior of drivers under various conditions, accurate automatic detection using multiple modalities and especially the contribution of using the speech modality to improve accuracy has received little attention. This paper introduces a new multimodal dataset for distracted driving behavior and discusses automatic distraction detection using features from three modalities: facial expression, speech and car signals. Detailed multimoda…

Continuous dimensional emotion prediction is a challenging task where the fusion of various modalities usually achieves state-of-the-art performance such as early fusion or late fusion. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-modal fusion strategy named conditional attention fusion, which can dynamically pay attention to different modalities at each time step. Long-short term memory recurrent neural networks (LSTM-RNN) is applied as the basic uni-modality model to capture long time dependencies. The weights assigned to different modalities are automatically decided by the current input feature…
