High-dimensional entanglement offers a variety of advantages for both fundamental and applied applications in quantum information science. A central building block for such applications is a programmable processor of entangled states, which is crucial for the certification, manipulation and distribution of high-dimensional entanglement. The leading technology for processing photons is integrated multiport interferometers. However, such devices are incompatible with structured light, and their scaling is challenging. Here, we unlock these limitations by demonstrating a reconfigurable processor of entangled photons in high-dimensions that is based on multi-plane light conversion (MPLC), a technology that was recently developed for multiplexing hundreds of spatial modes for classical communication. We use our programmable MPLC platform to certify three-dimensional entanglement in two mutually unbiased bases, perform 400 arbitrary random transformations on entangled photons, and convert the mode basis of entangled photons for entanglement distribution.
We present the implementation of a programmable atom-photon quantum interface, employing a single trapped $^{40}$Ca$^+$ ion and single photons. Depending on its mode of operation, the interface serves as a bi-directional atom-photon quantum-state converter, as a source of entangled atom-photon states, or as a quantum frequency converter of single photons. The interface lends itself particularly to interfacing ions with single or entangled photons in hybrid quantum networks.
Integrated entangled photon-pair sources are key elements for enabling large-scale quantum photonic solutions, and addresses the challenges of both scaling-up and stability. Here we report the first demonstration of an energy-time entangled photon-pair source based on spontaneous parametric down-conversion in silicon-based platform through an optically induced second-order ($χ^{(2)}$) nonlinearity, ensuring type-0 quasi-phase-matching of fundamental harmonic and its second-harmonic inside the waveguide. The developed source shows a coincidence-to-accidental ratio of 1635 at 8 of $μ$W pump powe…
Photonic qubits should be controllable on-chip and noise-tolerant when transmitted over optical networks for practical applications. Furthermore, qubit sources should be programmable and have high brightness to be useful for quantum algorithms and grant resilience to losses. However, widespread encoding schemes only combine at most two of these properties. Here, we overcome this hurdle by demonstrating a programmable silicon nano-photonic chip generating frequency-bin entangled photons, an encoding scheme compatible with long-range transmission over optical links. The emitted quantum states ca…
Arrays of atoms trapped in optical tweezers combine features of programmable analog quantum simulators with atomic quantum sensors. Here we propose variational quantum algorithms, tailored for tweezer arrays as programmable quantum sensors, capable of generating entangled states on-demand for precision metrology. The scheme is designed to generate metrological enhancement by optimizing it in a feedback loop on the quantum device itself, thus preparing the best entangled states given the available quantum resources. We apply our ideas to generate spin-squeezed states on Sr atom tweezer arrays, …
We consider novel method for implementation of hybrid entanglement between microscopic and macroscopic states on output of spontaneous parametric down converter through the depletion of the pump wave. The generated signal, idler and pumping fields show weak entanglement. We characterize it and show the limits of applicability of the depleted pump regime. Testing method of the hybrid entanglement is proposed. The hybrid entanglement is tested by conditional generation of maximally entangled states of two qubits and qutrits regardless of its smallness. Possibilities to enhance the hybrid entangl…
Quantum optical microcombs in integrated ring resonators generate entangled photon pairs over many spectral modes, and allow the preparation of high dimensional qudit states. Ideally, those sources should be programmable and have a high generation rate, with comb lines tightly spaced for the implementation of efficient qudit gates based on electro-optic frequency mixing. While these requirements cannot all be satisfied by a single resonator device, for which there is a trade-off between high generation rate and tight bin spacing, a promising strategy is the use of multiple resonators, each gen…
We theoretically demonstrate dynamically selective bidirectional emission and absorption of a single itinerant microwave photon in a waveguide. The proposed device is an artificial molecule composed of two qubits coupled to a waveguide a quarter-wavelength apart. By using simulations based on the input--output theory, we show that upon preparing an appropriate entangled state of the two qubits, a photon is emitted directionally as a result of the destructive interference occurring either at the right or left of the qubits. Moreover, we demonstrate that this artificial molecule possesses the ca…

The ability to engineer parallel, programmable operations between desired qubits within a quantum processor is central for building scalable quantum information systems. In most state-of-the-art approaches, qubits interact locally, constrained by the connectivity associated with their fixed spatial layout. Here, we demonstrate a quantum processor with dynamic, nonlocal connectivity, in which entangled qubits are coherently transported in a highly parallel manner across two spatial dimensions, in between layers of single- and two-qubit operations. Our approach makes use of neutral atom arrays t…
Hybrid entangled states, having entanglement between different degrees-of-freedom (DoF) of a particle pair, are of great interest for quantum information science and communication protocols. Among different DoFs, the hybrid entangled states encoded with polarization and orbital angular momentum (OAM) allow the generation of qubit-qudit entangled states, macroscopic entanglement with very high quanta of OAM and improvement in angular resolution in remote sensing. Till date, such hybrid entangled states are generated by using a high-fidelity polarization entangled state and subsequent imprinting…
Quantum information protocols require various types of entanglement, such as Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR), Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ), and cluster states. In optics, on-demand preparation of these states has been realized by squeezed light sources, but such experiments require different optical circuits for different entangled states, thus lacking versatility. Here we demonstrate an on-demand entanglement synthesizer which programmably generates all these entangled states from a single squeezed light source. This is achieved by developing a loop-based circuit which is dynamically contr…
The onset of the era of fully-programmable error-corrected quantum computers will be marked by major breakthroughs in all areas of science and engineering. These devices promise to have significant technological and societal impact, notable examples being the analysis of big data through better machine learning algorithms and the design of new materials. Nevertheless, the capacity of quantum computers to faithfully implement quantum algorithms relies crucially on their ability to prepare specific high-dimensional and high-purity quantum states, together with suitable quantum measurements. Thus…
Gate model quantum computers promise to solve currently intractable computational problems if they can be operated at scale with long coherence times and high fidelity logic. Neutral atom hyperfine qubits provide inherent scalability due to their identical characteristics, long coherence times, and ability to be trapped in dense multi-dimensional arrays\cite{Saffman2010}. Combined with the strong entangling interactions provided by Rydberg states\cite{Jaksch2000,Gaetan2009,Urban2009}, all the necessary characteristics for quantum computation are available. Here we demonstrate several quantum a…

This study examines the possibility of finding perfect entanglers for a Hamiltonian which corresponds to several quantum information platforms of interest at the present time. However, in this study, we use a superconducting circuit that stands out from other quantum-computing devices, especially because Transmon qubits can be coupled via capacitors or microwave cavities, which enable us to combine high coherence, fast gates, and high flexibility in its design parameters. There are currently two factors limiting the performance of superconducting processors: timing mismatch and the limitation …

Quantum computing is a disruptive paradigm widely believed to be capable of solving classically intractable problems. However, the route toward full-scale quantum computers is obstructed by immense challenges associated with the scalability of the platform, the connectivity of qubits, and the required fidelity of various components. One-way quantum computing is an appealing approach that shifts the burden from high-fidelity quantum gates and quantum memories to the generation of high-quality entangled resource states and high fidelity measurements. Cluster states are an important ingredient fo…
