Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) have demonstrated the potential to recover realistic details for single image super-resolution (SISR). To further improve the visual quality of super-resolved results, PIRM2018-SR Challenge employed perceptual metrics to assess the perceptual quality, such as PI, NIQE, and Ma. However, existing methods cannot directly optimize these indifferentiable perceptual metrics, which are shown to be highly correlated with human ratings. To address the problem, we propose Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Networks with Ranker (RankSRGAN) to optimize generator in the direction of different perceptual metrics. Specifically, we first train a Ranker which can learn the behaviour of perceptual metrics and then introduce a novel rank-content loss to optimize the perceptual quality. The most appealing part is that the proposed method can combine the strengths of different SR methods to generate better results. Furthermore, we extend our method to multiple Rankers to provide multi-dimension constraints for the generator. Extensive experiments show that RankSRGAN achieves visually pleasing results and reaches state-of-the-art performance in perceptual metrics and quality. We propose an action recognition framework using Gen- erative Adversarial Networks. Then we use the trained discriminator from the GAN model as an unsupervised pre-training step and fine-tune the trained discriminator model on a labeled dataset to recognize human activities. We determine good network architectural and hyperparameter settings for us- ing the discriminator from DCGAN as a trained model to learn useful representations for acti…
We propose a method for semi-supervised training of structured-output neural networks. Inspired by the framework of Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), we train a discriminator network to capture the notion of a quality of network output. To this end, we leverage the qualitative difference between outputs obtained on the labelled training data and unannotated data. We then use the discriminator as a source of error signal for unlabelled data. This effectively boosts the performance of a network on a held out test set. Initial experiments in image segmentation demonstrate that the proposed f…
We propose an image super resolution(ISR) method using generative adversarial networks (GANs) that takes a low resolution input fundus image and generates a high resolution super resolved (SR) image upto scaling factor of $16$. This facilitates more accurate automated image analysis, especially for small or blurred landmarks and pathologies. Local saliency maps, which define each pixel's importance, are used to define a novel saliency loss in the GAN cost function. Experimental results show the resulting SR images have perceptual quality very close to the original images and perform better tha…

We present a novel self-supervised learning approach for conditional generative adversarial networks (GANs) under a semi-supervised setting. Unlike prior self-supervised approaches which often involve geometric augmentations on the image space such as predicting rotation angles, our pretext task leverages the label space. We perform augmentation by randomly sampling sensible labels from the label space of the few labelled examples available and assigning them as target labels to the abundant unlabelled examples from the same distribution as that of the labelled ones. The images are then transl…
Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have become the most used networks towards solving the problem of image generation. Self-supervised GANs are later proposed to avoid the catastrophic forgetting of the discriminator and to improve the image generation quality without needing the class labels. However, the generalizability of the self-supervision tasks on different GAN architectures is not studied before. To that end, we extensively analyze the contribution of a previously proposed self-supervision task, deshuffling of the DeshuffleGANs in the generalizability context. We assign the deshuf…
In the past few years, Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) became a prevalent research topic. By defining two convolutional neural networks (G-Network and D-Network) and introducing an adversarial procedure between them during the training process, GAN has ability to generate good quality images that look like natural images from a random vector. Besides image generation, GAN may have potential to deal with wide range of real world problems. In this paper, we follow the basic idea of GAN and propose a novel model for image saliency detection, which is called Supervised Adversarial Networks (S…

Constructing an organized dataset comprised of a large number of images and several captions for each image is a laborious task, which requires vast human effort. On the other hand, collecting a large number of images and sentences separately may be immensely easier. In this paper, we develop a novel data-efficient semi-supervised framework for training an image captioning model. We leverage massive unpaired image and caption data by learning to associate them. To this end, our proposed semi-supervised learning method assigns pseudo-labels to unpaired samples via Generative Adversarial Network…

Image super-resolution is one of the important computer vision techniques aiming to reconstruct high-resolution images from corresponding low-resolution ones. Most recently, deep learning-based approaches have been demonstrated for image super-resolution. Generative Adversarial Networks can learn the mapping of random noise to realistic images in a semi-supervised framework. This mapping ability can be used for semi-supervised image classification to detect images of an unknown class where there is no training data to be used for supervised classification. However, if the unknown class shares similar characteristics to the known class(es), GANs can learn to generalize and generate images that look like both classes. This generalization ability can hinder the classification performance. In this work, we propose the Vanishing Twin GAN. By trainin…

Conversely, Triple GAN consists of a three-player game that tries to leverage good generated samples to boost classification results. In this paper, we perform a comprehensive comparison of these two approaches on different benchmark datasets. We demonstra…

The success of deep learning for medical imaging tasks, such as classification, is heavily reliant on the availability of large-scale datasets. Semantic segmentation is a task that traditionally requires a large dataset of pixel-level ground truth labels, which is time-consuming and expensive to obtain. Recent advancements in the weakly-supervised setting show that reasonable performance can be obtained by using only image-level labels. However, the classification task needs only the minimum evidence to make predictions, hence it focuses on the most discriminative object regions. To overcome this problem, we propose a n…
