We present a deep far and near-ultraviolet (FUV and NUV) wide-field imaging survey of galaxies in the Bootes Void using Ultra-Violet Imaging Telescope onboard {\em AstroSat}. Our data reach $5σ$ limiting magnitudes for point sources at 23.0 and 24.0 AB mag in FUV and NUV respectively. We report a total of six star-forming galaxies residing in the Bootes Void alongside the full catalog, and of these, three are newly detected in our FUV observation.
Our void galaxy sample spans a range of UV colors $(-0.35\, \leq$ FUV$-$NUV $\leq\, 0.68)$ and absolute magnitudes $(-14.16\, \leq\, \mathrm{M_{NUV}}\, \leq\, -18.65)$. In addition, {\em Sloan Digital Sky Survey} and {\em Two-micron All Sky Survey} archival data are being used to study UV, optical, and infrared color-magnitude relations for our galaxies in the void. We investigate the nature of bi-modal color distribution, morphologies, and star formation of the void galaxies. Most of the galaxies in our sample are fainter and less massive than L$^{\ast}$ galaxies, with M$_\mathrm{r} > -20$. Our analysis reveals a dominant fraction of bluer galaxies over the red ones in the void region probed. The internal and Galactic extinction corrected FUV star formation rates (SFRs) in our void galaxy catalog varies in a large range of $0.05$ to $51.01$ M$_{\odot} yr^{-1}$, with a median $3.96$ M$_{\odot} yr^{-1}$. We find a weak effect of the environment on the SFRs of galaxies. Implications of our findings are discussed.
We explore the possible dependencies of galaxy metal abundance and star-formation rate (SFR) on local environment, focusing on the volume of space in and around the Bootes Void. Our sample of star-forming galaxies comes from the second catalog of the H-alpha-selected KPNO International Spectroscopic Survey (KISS) which overlaps the void. This sample represents a statistically complete, line-flux-limited ensemble of 820 star-forming galaxies, all of which possess metallicity and SFR estimates. We carry out two distinct analyses of the KISS galaxies: one which probes the properties of the entire…
The origin of star-formation in customarily passively evolving early-type massive galaxies is poorly understood. We present a case study of a massive galaxy, I~Zw~81, inside the Bootes void. The void galaxy is known to host an active galactic nuclei (AGN). Our detailed 2D decomposition of the surface brightness distribution in the $Canada$ $France$ $Hawaii$ $Telescope$ ($CFHT$) g- and r-bands revealed multiple structural components such as a nuclear point source, a bar, a ring, and an inner exponential disk followed by an outer low surface brightness (LSB) disk. I~Zw~81 turns out to be a disk-…

We explore the structure and kinematics of a dispersed filament of galaxies residing between the Local Void and the Virgo cluster. For such purpose, we consider a sample of 361 galaxies with radial velocities $V_{LG} < 2000$ km/s inside the sky area of RA = [13.0 ... 18.0]$^h$ and Dec. = [$-$5 ... $+$10]$^\circ$. At present, 161 of them have individual distance estimates. The galaxy distribution on peculiar velocities along the strip exhibits the known Virgo-centric infall at RA < 14$^h$ and some signs of outflow from the Local Void at RA > 17$^h$. Majority of the Bootes strip galaxies (56%) b…
Bootes filament of galaxies is a dispersed chain of groups residing on sky between the Local Void and the Virgo cluster. We consider a sample of 361 galaxies inside the sky area of $RA = 13.0^h ... 18.5^h$ and $Dec = -5^\circ ... +10^\circ$ with radial velocities $V_{LG} < 2000$ km/s to clarify its structure and kinematics. In this region, 161 galaxies have individual distance estimates. We use these data to draw the Hubble relation for galaxy groups, pairs as well as the field galaxies, and to examine the galaxy distribution on peculiar velocities. Our analysis exposes the known Virgo-centric…
We consider a sample of 412 galaxies with radial velocities $V_{\rm LG} < 2500$ km s$^{-1}$ situated in the sky region of ${\rm RA}=13^h\hspace{-0.4em}.\,0$ ... $19^h\hspace{-0.4em}.\,0$, ${\rm Dec}=+10^{\circ}$ ... $+40^{\circ}$ between the Local Void and the Supergalactic plane. One hundred and eighty-one of them have individual distance estimates. Peculiar velocities of the galaxies as a function of Supergalactic latitude SGB show signs of Virgocentric infall at $SGB < 10^{\circ}$ and motion from the Local Void at $SGB > 60^{\circ}$. A half of the Hercules-Bootes galaxies belong to 17 group…
We measure the environmental dependence, where environment is defined by the distance to the third nearest neighbor, of multiple galaxy properties inside the Environmental COntext (ECO) catalog. We focus primarily on void galaxies, which we define as the $10 \%$ of galaxies having the lowest local density. We compare the properties of void and non-void galaxies: baryonic mass, color, fractional stellar mass growth rate (FSMGR), morphology, and gas-to-stellar-mass ratio (estimated from a combination of HI data and photometric gas fractions calibrated with the RESOLVE survey). Our void galaxies …
We have conducted a deep survey (with a central rms of $55μ\textrm{Jy}$) with the LOw Frequency ARray (LOFAR) at 120-168 MHz of the Boötes field, with an angular resolution of $3.98^{''}\times6.45^{''}$, and obtained a sample of 10091 radio sources ($5σ$ limit) over an area of $20\:\textrm{deg}^{2}$. The astrometry and flux scale accuracy of our source catalog is investigated. The resolution bias, incompleteness and other systematic effects that could affect our source counts are discussed and accounted for. The derived 150 MHz source counts present a flattening below sub-mJy flux densities, t…
We present the first sub-mJy ($\approx0.7$ mJy beam$^{-1}$) survey to be completed below 100 MHz, which is over an order of magnitude deeper than previously achieved for widefield imaging of any field at these low frequencies. The high resolution ($15 \times 15$ arcsec) image of the Boötes field at 34-75 MHz is made from 56 hours of observation with the LOw Frequency ARray (LOFAR) Low Band Antenna (LBA) system. The observations and data reduction, including direction-dependent calibration, are described here. We present a radio source catalogue containing 1,948 sources detected over an area of…
We extract void catalogs from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 16 (SDSS DR16) survey and also from the Millennium simulation. We focus our comparison on distribution of galaxies brighter than $M_r < -18$ inside voids and study the mean separation of void galaxies, distance from the void center, and the radial density profile. We find that mean separation of void galaxies depends on void size, as bigger voids have lower mean separation in both samples. However, void galaxies in the observation sample seem to have generally larger mean-distance than simulated ones at any given void size…
We present the detection of molecular gas from galaxies located in nearby voids using the CO line emission as a tracer. The observations were done using the 45m Nobeyama Radio Telescope. Void galaxies lie in the most under dense parts of our universe and a significant fraction of them are gas rich, late type spiral galaxies. Although isolated, they have ongoing star formation but appear to be slowly evolving compared to galaxies in denser environments. Not much is known about their star formation properties or cold gas content. In this study we searched for molecular gas in five void galaxies.…
We search for RR Lyrae stars in 27 nearby ($<100$ kpc) ultra-faint dwarf satellite galaxies using the Gaia DR2 catalog of RR Lyrae stars. Based on proper motions, magnitudes and location on the sky, we associate 47 Gaia RR Lyrae stars to 14 different satellites. Distances based on RR Lyrae stars are provided for those galaxies. We have identified RR Lyrae stars for the first time in the Tucana II dwarf galaxy, and find additional members in Ursa Major II, Coma Berenices, Hydrus I, Bootes I and Bootes III. In addition we have identified candidate extra-tidal RR Lyrae stars in six galaxies which…

We study the distribution of cosmic voids and void galaxies using Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7 (SDSS DR7). Using the VoidFinder algorithm as described by Hoyle 2002, we identify 1054 statistically significant voids in the northern galactic hemisphere with radii > 10 h^{-1} Mpc. The filling factor of voids in the sample volume is 62%. The largest void is just over 30 h^{-1} Mpc in effective radius. The median effective radius is 17 h^{-1} Mpc. The voids are found to be significantly underdense, with density contrast δ< -0.85 at the edges of the voids. The radial density profiles of t…
Giant radio galaxies (GRGs) are radio galaxies that have projected linear extents of more than 700 kpc or 1 Mpc, depending on definition. We have carried out a careful visual inspection in search of GRGs of the Bootes LOFAR Deep Field (BLDF) image at 150 MHz. We identified 74 GRGs with a projected size larger than 0.7 Mpc of which 38 are larger than 1 Mpc. The resulting GRG sky density is about 2.8 (1.43) GRGs per square degree for GRGs with linear size larger than 0.7 (1) Mpc. We studied their radio properties and the accretion state of the host galaxies using deep optical and infrared survey…
The main goal of this work is to form a large, deep and representative sample of dwarf galaxies residing in voids of the nearby Universe. The formed sample is the basement for the comprehensive mass study of the galaxy content, their evolutionary status, clustering and dynamics with respect to their counterparts residing in more typical, denser regions and for study of void small-scale substructures. We present 25 voids over the entire sky within 25 Mpc from the Local Group. They are defined as groups of lumped empty spheres bounded by `luminous' galaxies with the absolute K-band magnitudes br…
We calculate the void probability function (VPF) in simulations of Lyman-$α$ emitters (LAEs) across a wide redshift range ($z=3.1,\ 4.5,\ 5.7,\ 6.6$). The VPF measures the zero-point correlation function (i.e. places devoid of galaxies) and naturally connects to higher order correlation functions while being computationally simple to calculate. We explore the Poissonian and systematic errors on the VPF, specify its accuracy as a function of average source density and the volume probed, and provide the appropriate size scales to measure the VPF. At small radii the accuracy of the VPF is limited…
We present a sample of $\sim 1000$ emission line galaxies at $z=0.4-4.7$ from the $\sim0.7$deg$^2$ High-$z$ Emission Line Survey (HiZELS) in the Boötes field identified with a suite of six narrow-band filters at $\approx 0.4-2.1$ $μ$m. These galaxies have been selected on their Ly$α$ (73), {\sc [Oii]} (285), H$β$/{\sc [Oiii]} (387) or H$α$ (362) emission-line, and have been classified with optical to near-infrared colours. A subsample of 98 sources have reliable redshifts from multiple narrow-band (e.g. [O{\sc ii}]-H$α$) detections and/or spectroscopy. In this survey paper, we present the obse…
The influence of under-dense environments on the formation and evolution of galaxies is studied by analysing the photometric properties of ~200 galaxies residing in voids, taken from our SDSS DR10 void catalogue up to z ~0.055. We split void galaxies into two subsamples based on the luminosity density contrast of their host voids: 'sparse void' δ_s = δ < -0.95 and 'populous void' δ_p = δ > -0.87. We find that galaxies in sparse voids are less massive than galaxies in populous voids. The luminosity distribution of galaxies in populous voids follows the same distribution observed across the SDSS…

We construct a sample of 10,680 wall galaxies and 3,064 void galaxies with $M_R \lesssim -20$ by cross referencing a void catalog from literature with Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) CMASS and WiggleZ galaxies, where the CMASS survey targets redder galaxies and the WiggleZ survey targets bluer galaxies. Comparing the density profiles of the red and blue galaxies as a function of the void radius, we find that the number ratio of red-to-blue galaxies increases with distances from the void centers, suggesting a deficit of luminous and normal red galaxies in voids. We find a mean (g…

We present the source associations, cross-identifications, and multi-wavelength properties of the faint radio source population detected in the deep tier of the LOFAR Two Metre Sky Survey (LoTSS): the LoTSS Deep Fields. The first LoTSS Deep Fields data release consists of deep radio imaging at 150~MHz of the ELAIS-N1, Lockman Hole, and Boötes fields, down to RMS sensitives of around 20, 22, and 32$~μ$Jy\,beam$^{-1}$, respectively. These fields are some of the best studied extra-galactic fields in the northern sky, with existing deep, wide-area panchromatic photometry from X-ray to infrared wav…
