In this conference paper I present the first full global fit of a dark matter effective field theory with the global fitting framework GAMBIT. I show the results of exhaustive parameter space explorations of the effective dark matter model, including a general set of operators up to dimension 7, and using the most up-to-date constraints from direct and indirect detection of dark matter, relic abundance requirements and collider searches for dark matter candidates.
In this conference paper I present GAMBIT , the Global and Modular BSM Inference Tool. I describe the various components of GAMBIT , its modules and interfaces to external tools, as well as a brief summary of the most recent results. In addition I introduce for the first time GUM , the GAMBIT Universal Model Machine, a tool created to auto-generate GAMBIT code for any BSM model from the most popular Lagrangian-level tools, FeynRules and SARAH.
We describe ColliderBit, a new code for the calculation of high energy collider observables in theories of physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM). ColliderBit features a generic interface to BSM models, a unique parallelised Monte Carlo event generation scheme suitable for large-scale supercomputer applications, and a number of LHC analyses, covering a reasonable range of the BSM signatures currently sought by ATLAS and CMS. ColliderBit also calculates likelihoods for Higgs sector observables, and LEP searches for BSM particles. These features are provided by a combination of new code unique …
The wide range of probes of physics beyond the standard model leads to the need for tools that combine experimental results to make the most robust possible statements about the validity of theories and the preferred regions of their parameter space. Here we introduce a new code for such analyses: GAMBIT, the Global and Modular BSM Inference Tool. GAMBIT is a flexible and extensible framework for global fits of essentially any BSM theory. The code currently incorporates direct and indirect searches for dark matter, limits on production of new particles from the LHC and LEP, complete flavor con…
The minimal supersymmetric standard model is a popular and well-motivated extension of the standard model. As such, it has been constrained by a large number of different experimental searches. To truly assess the impacts of these experiments on the model one must perform a global fit, scanning over the multi-dimensional parameter space and combining all the data in a statistically rigorous manner. In this talk, I presented results from global fits of supersymmetric models performed with GAMBIT, the Global and Modular Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) Inference Tool. I showed MSSM results from t…

We consider an effective field theory framework with three standard model (SM) gauge singlet right handed neutrinos, and an additional SM gauge singlet scalar field. The framework successfully generates eV masses of the light neutrinos via seesaw mechanism, and accommodates a feebly interacting massive particle (FIMP) as dark matter candidate. Two of the gauge singlet neutrinos participate in neutrino mass generation, while the third gauge singlet neutrino is a FIMP dark matter. We explore the correlation between the $\textit{vev}$ of the gauge singlet scalar field which translates as mass of …
Effective Field Theories (EFTs) capture effects from heavy dynamics at low energy and represent an essential ingredient in the context of Standard Model (SM) precision tests. This document gathers a number of relevant scenarios for heavy physics beyond the SM and presents explicit expressions for the Wilson coefficients in their low-energy EFT. It includes i) weakly coupled scenarios in which one or a few particles of different spins and quantum numbers interact linearly with the SM and generate EFT effects at tree-level, ii) scenarios where heavy particles interact quadratically whereupon the…
Recognizing the potential of effective field theories to posit multiple BSM scenarios in similar footing, with a possibility to compare them, we inspect the effects of 11 single scalar-multiplet extensions of the SM on the combined set of electroweak precision observables and Higgs signal strength data, by systematically integrating out the heavy multiplets and computing the resulting SMEFT operators and Wilson coefficients (WCs) up to one-loop level. Noting that multiple BSM models give rise to a degenerate set of WCs, we then perform Bayesian statistical inference both directly on the BSM pa…
Effective Field Theories offer a consistent bottom-up approach to parametrise small deviations from Standard Model predictions. In this work we report on the application of the Effective Field Theory to shed light on effects from high-scale physics beyond the Standard Model on the Higgs transverse-momentum spectrum. The Standard Model prediction for the transverse-momentum distribution in Higgs boson production through gluon fusion is augmented by three new dimension-six operators, implying the modification of the top and bottom Yukawa couplings, and the inclusion of a point-like Higgs-gluon c…
We consider the transverse-momentum distribution of a Higgs boson produced through gluon fusion in hadron collisions. At small transverse momenta, the large logarithmic terms are resummed up to next-to-leading-logarithmic (NLL) accuracy. The resummed computation is consistently matched to the next-to-leading-order (NLO) result valid at large transverse momenta. The ensuing Standard Model prediction is supplemented by possible new-physics effects parametrised through three dimension-six operators related to the modification of the top and bottom Yukawa couplings, and to the inclusion of a point…
It is possible that measurements of vector boson scattering (VBS) at the LHC will reveal disagreement with Standard Model predictions, but no new particles will be observed directly. The task is then to learn as much as possible about the new physics from a VBS analysis carried within the framework of the Effective Field Theory (EFT). In this paper we discuss issues related to the correct usage of the EFT when the WW invariant mass is not directly accessible experimentally, as in purely leptonic W decay channels. The strategies for future data analyses in case such scenario indeed occurs are p…
We assess the status of a wide class of WIMP dark matter (DM) models in light of the latest experimental results using the global fitting framework $\textsf{GAMBIT}$. We perform a global analysis of effective field theory (EFT) operators describing the interactions between a gauge-singlet Dirac fermion and the Standard Model quarks, the gluons and the photon. In this bottom-up approach, we simultaneously vary the coefficients of 14 such operators up to dimension 7, along with the DM mass, the scale of new physics and several nuisance parameters. Our likelihood functions include the latest data…
In recent times, SMEFT, along with a superlative repertoire of theoretical and computational tools, has emerged as an efficacious platform to test the viability of proposed BSM scenarios. With symmetry as the backbone, higher mass dimensional ($\geq 5$) SMEFT operators constitute the \textit{lingua franca} for studying and comparing the direct or indirect effects of UV models on low energy observables. The steady increase in the accessible energy scales for contemporary particle collision experiments prompts us to inspect effective operators beyond the leading order and investigate their measu…
The present approach relies on the SM chiral symmetry breaking pattern $SU(2)_L\otimes SU(2)_R\to SU(2)_{L+R}$, with the EW Goldstone bosons given in a non-linear realization and the Higgs boson described by an EW singlet field. In addition, we assume the presence of new physics heavy states around the TeV scale that do not couple to the SM fermions, only to the SM bosonic sector. However, the mixing between gauge bosons and BSM resonances induces a small indirect interaction between the BSM sector and the SM fermions. This leads to an important suppression of the fermionic operators in the lo…
Experiments in particle physics have hitherto failed to produce any significant evidence for the many explicit models of physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM) that had been proposed over the past decades. As a result, physicists have increasingly turned to model-independent strategies as tools in searching for a wide range of possible BSM effects. In this paper, we describe the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SM-EFT) and analyse it in the context of the philosophical discussions about models, theories, and (bottom-up) effective field theories. We find that while the SM-EFT is a quantu…
Effective field theory (EFT) approaches are widely used at the LHC, such that it is important to study their validity, and ease of matching to specific new physics models. In this paper, we consider an extension of the SM in which a top quark couples to a new heavy scalar. We find the dimension six operators generated by this theory at low energy, and match the EFT to the full theory up to NLO precision in the simplified model coupling. We then examine the range of validity of the EFT description in top pair production, finding excellent validity even if the scalar mass is only slightly above …

The recent measurement of $R_K$ at LHCb continues to support the hint of violation of lepton flavor universality. We perform a global fit for new physics in semileptonic $b\to s$ transitions using all the relevant data with a Bayesian analysis technique. We include new measurements of $R_K$ at LHCb and new determinations of $R_{K^*}$ and $R_{K^{*+}}$ at Belle. We perform the scan for various NP scenarios and infer the 68\% and 95.4\% credibility regions of the marginalized posterior probability density for all scenarios. We also compare the models in pairs by calculating the Bayes factor given…
We present a Bayesian analysis of the implications for new physics in semileptonic $b\to s$ transitions after including new measurements of $R_K$ at LHCb and new determinations of $R_{K^*}$ and $R_{K^{*+}}$ at Belle. We perform global fits with 1, 2, 4, and 8 input Wilson coefficients, plus one CKM nuisance parameter to take into account uncertainties that are not factorizable. We infer the 68% and 95.4% credibility regions of the marginalized posterior probability density for all scenarios and perform comparisons of models in pairs by calculating the Bayes factor given a common data set. We t…
