To gain an advantage, quantum technologies utilize phenomena particular to quantum mechanics. Two such phenomena are squeezing and entanglement. Having generated states that exhibit these features, verification of their generation with local measurements can be a difficult process. Here we consider the states that are generated using the two-qudit single-axis squeezing Hamiltonian, that not only produces entangled two-qudit squeezed states but also results in various forms of interesting entangled states. We show how one can use local measurements to both efficiently verify and directly estimate the fidelity of these generated states.
Entanglement plays a crucial role in quantum information protocols, thus the dynamical behavior of entangled states is of a great importance. In this paper we suggest a useful scheme that permits a direct measure of entanglement in a two-qubit cavity system. It is realized in the cavity-QED technology utilizing atoms as fying qubits. To quantify entanglement we use the concurrence. We derive the conditions, which assure that the state remains entangled in spite of the interaction with the reservoir. The phenomenon of sudden death entanglement (ESD) in a bipartite system subjected to squeezed v…
We investigate the stationary bipartite entanglement is a useful hybrid optomechanical system, which is constituted of two coupled-cavity optomechanics through a photon hopping process and both are driven by squeezed light. The transfer of correlations from an entangled light source to optomechanical cavities is explored. It is found that the generation of bipartite entanglement and entanglement transfer depend strongly on photon hopping strength and the matching of the input squeezed modes to the cavity modes. It is revealed that the generated stationary bipartite entanglement due to squeezed…
I study the three parameters bipartite quantum Gaussian state called squeezed asymmetric thermal state, calculate Gaussian entanglement of formation analytically and the up bound of relative entropy of entanglement, compare them with coherent information of the state.Based on the result obtained, one can determine the relative entropy of entanglement of the state with infinitive squeezing.
Bipartite temporal Bell inequalities are similar to the usual Bell inequalities except that, instead of changing the direction of the polariser at each measurement, one changes the time at which the measurement is being performed. By doing so, one is able to test for realism and locality, but relying on position measurements only. This is particularly useful in experimental setups where the momentum direction cannot be probed (such as in cosmology for instance). We study these bipartite temporal Bell inequalities for continuous systems placed in two-mode squeezed states, and find some regions …
We prove that a pure entangled state of two subsystems with equal spin is equivalent to a two-mode spin-squeezed state under local operations except for a set of bipartite states with measure zero, and we provide a counterexample to the generalization of this result to two subsystems of unequal spin.
The efficient and reliable verification of quantum states plays a crucial role in various quantum information processing tasks. We consider the task of verifying entangled states using one-way and two-way classical communication and completely characterize the optimal strategies via convex optimization. We solve these optimization problems using both analytical and numerical methods, and the optimal strategies can be constructed for any bipartite pure state. Compared with the nonadaptive approach, our adaptive strategies significantly improve the efficiency of quantum state verification. Moreo…
Extending the scheme developed for a single mode of the electromagnetic field in the preceding paper ``Structure of multiphoton quantum optics. I. Canonical formalism and homodyne squeezed states'', we introduce two-mode nonlinear canonical transformations depending on two heterodyne mixing angles. They are defined in terms of hermitian nonlinear functions that realize heterodyne superpositions of conjugate quadratures of bipartite systems. The canonical transformations diagonalize a class of Hamiltonians describing non degenerate and degenerate multiphoton processes. We determine the coherent…
We consider entanglement detection for quantum key distribution systems that use two signal states and continuous variable measurements. This problem can be formulated as a separability problem in a qubit-mode system. To verify entanglement, we introduce an object that combines the covariance matrix of the mode with the density matrix of the qubit. We derive necessary separability criteria for this scenario. These criteria can be readily evaluated using semidefinite programming and we apply them to the specific quantum key distribution protocol.
We present a method to test quantum behavior of quantum information processing devices, such as quantum memories, teleportation devices, channels and quantum key distribution protocols. The test of quantum behavior can be phrased as the verification of effective entanglement. Necessary separability criteria are formulated in terms of a matrix of expectation values in conjunction with the partial transposition map. Our method is designed to reduce the resources for entanglement verification. A particular protocol based on coherent states and homodyne detection is used to illustrate the method. …
The ability of parameter recently proposed by Sorensen et al. (Nature, 409, 63 (2001)) to characterize entanglement or inseparability is investigated for a system of two two-level atoms interacting with a single mode of radiation field. For comparison we employ the necessary and sufficient criterion of Peres and Horodecki for inseparability of bipartite states. We show that for diagonal atomic density matrix the parameter of Sorensen et al. fails to show entangled nature of collective atomic state whereas same state is inseparable in accordance with Peres-Horodecki criterion.
The presence of multiple bipartite entangled modes in squeezed states generated by four wave mixing in atomic vapors enables ultra-trace sensing, imaging, and metrology applications that are impossible to achieve with single-spatial-mode squeezed states. For Gaussian seed beams, the spatial distribution of bipartite entangled modes, or coherence areas, across each beam is largely dependent on the spatial modes present in the pump beam, but it has proven difficult to map the distribution of these coherence areas in frequency and space. We demonstrate an accessible method to map the distribution…
We propose practical and efficient protocols for verifying bipartite pure states for any finite dimension, which can also be applied to fidelity estimation. Our protocols are based on adaptive local projective measurements with either one-way or two-way communications, which are very easy to implement in practice. They can extract the key information much more efficiently than known protocols based on tomography or direct fidelity estimation, and their efficiencies are comparable to the best protocols based on entangling measurements. These protocols highlight the significance of mutually unbi…
We investigate the systematic use of the Schwinger representation, by virtue of which two boson fields are equivalent to an effective spin, for casting multimode squeezed states into multipartite spin entangled states. The motivation for this endeavor is the following established fact: finitely squeezed, two-mode entangled states can be recast into maximally entangled bipartite spin states, irrespective of their level of squeezing (in the lossless case). This work explores the generalization of this interesting property to multipartite entanglement. While we found that the generalization of mu…
In this paper, we study the interaction between the two-level atom and a bimodal cavity field, namely, two-mode Jaynes-Cummings model when the atom and the modes are initially in the atomic superposition state and two-mode squeezed vacuum state, respectively. For this system we investigate the atomic inversion, linear entropy and atomic Wehrl entropy. We show that there is a connection between all these quantities. Also we prove that the atomic Wehrl entropy exhibits behaviors similar to those of the linear entropy and the von Neumann entropy. Moreover, we show that the bipartite exhibits peri…
We quantify multiparticle quantum entanglement in a system of N two-level atoms interacting with a squeezed vacuum state of the electromagnetic field. We calculate the amount of quantum entanglement present among one hundred such two-level atoms and also show the variation of that entanglement with the radiation field parameter. We show the continuous variation of the amount of quantum entanglement as we continuously increase the number of atoms from N=2 to N=100. We also discuss that the multiparticle correlations among the N two-level atoms are made up of all possible bipartite correlations …
We study in detail a system of two interferometers aimed to the detection of extremely faint phase-fluctuations. This system can represent a breakthrough for detecting a faint correlated signal that would remain otherwise undetectable even using the most sensitive individual interferometric devices, that are limited by the shot noise. If the two interferometers experience identical phase-fluctuations, like the ones introduced by the so called "holographic noise", this signal should emerge if their output signals are correlated, while the fluctuations due to shot noise and other independent con…
The generation of quantum entanglement of macroscopic or mesoscopic bodies in mechanical motion is generally bounded by the thermal fluctuation exerted by their environments. Here we propose a scheme to establish stationary entanglement between two mechanically oscillating mirrors of a cavity. It is revealed that, by applying a broadband squeezed laser acting as a squeezed-vacuum reservoir to the cavity, a stable entanglement between the mechanical mirrors can be generated. Using the adiabatic elimination and master equation methods, we analytically find that the generated entanglement is esse…
A continuous-variable tripartite entangled state is experimentally generated by combining three independent squeezed vacuum states and the variances of its relative positions and total momentum are measured. We show that the measured values violate the separability criteria based on the sum of these quantities and prove the full inseparability of the generated state.
We report the direct -- continuous in phase -- sampling of a regularized $P$ function, the so-called nonclassicality quasiprobability, for squeezed light. Through their negativities, the resulting phase-space representation uncovers the quantum character of the state. In contrast to discrete phase-locked measurements, our approach allows an unconditional verification of nonclassicality by getting rid of interpolation errors due to fixed phases. To realize the equal phase distribution of measured quadratures, a data selection is implemented with quantum random numbers created by measuring the v…
We describe a criterion for the detection of entanglement between two multi-boson systems. The criterion is based on calculating correlations of Gell-Mann matrices with a fixed boson number on each subsystem. This applies naturally to systems such as two entangled spinor Bose-Einstein condensates. We apply our criterion to several experimentally motivated examples, such as an $ S^z S^z $ entangled BECs, ac Stark shift induced two-mode squeezed BECs, and photons under parametric down conversion. We find that entanglement can be detected for all parameter regions for the most general criterion. …
We present a scheme for broadcasting of continuous variable entanglement. We show how an initial two-mode squeezed state of the electromagnetic field shared by two distant parties can be broadcasted into two nonlocal bipartite entangled states. Our protocol uses a local linear amplifier and a beam splitter at each end. We compute the fidelity of the output entangled states and show that the broadcasting can be implemented for a variety of input squeezed states and amplifier phases.
We present an entanglement criterion for two mode squeezed states which relies on particle counting only. The proposed inequality is optimal for the state under consideration and robust against particle losses up to 2/3. As it does not involve measurements of quadratures - which is typically very challenging for atomic modes - it renders the detection of atomic many-particle entanglement feasible in many different settings. Moreover it bridges the gap between entanglement verification for a qubit and criteria for continuous variables measured by homodyne detection. We illustrate its applicatio…
We study nonclassical correlations in propagating two-mode squeezed microwave states in the presence of noise. We focus on two different types of correlations, namely, quantum entanglement and quantum discord. Quantum discord has various intriguing fundamental properties which require experimental verification, such as the asymptotic robustness to environmental noise. Here, we experimentally investigate quantum discord in propagating two-mode squeezed microwave states generated via superconducting Josephson parametric amplifiers. By exploiting an asymmetric noise injection into these entangled…
Efficient verification of quantum states and gates is crucial to the development of quantum technologies. Although the sample complexities of quantum state verification and quantum gate verification have been studied by many researchers, the number of experimental settings has received little attention and is poorly understood. In this work we study systematically quantum state verification and quantum gate verification with a focus on the number of experimental settings. We show that any bipartite pure state can be verified by only two measurement settings based on local projective measuremen…
The general class of Gaussian Schmidt-number witness operators for bipartite systems is studied. It is shown that any member of this class is reducible to a convex combination of two types of Gaussian operators using local operations and classical communications. This gives rise to a simple operational method, which is solely based on measurable covariance matrices of quantum states. Our method bridges the gap between theory and experiment of entanglement quantification. In particular, we certify lower bounds of the Schmidt number of squeezed thermal and phase-randomized squeezed vacuum states…
We aim to devise feasible, efficient verification schemes for bosonic channels. To this end, we construct an average-fidelity witness that yields a tight lower bound for average fidelity plus a general framework for verifying optimal quantum channels. For both multi-mode unitary Gaussian channels and single-mode amplification channels, we present experimentally feasible average-fidelity witnesses and reliable verification schemes, for which sample complexity scales polynomially with respect to all channel specification parameters. Our verification scheme provides an approach to benchmark the p…
We have experimentally demonstrated the efficient creation of highly entangled bipartite continuous variable polarisation states. Exploiting an optimised scheme for the production of squeezing using the Kerr non-linearity of a glass fibre we generated polarisation squeezed pulses with a mean classical excitation in S3. Polarisation entanglement was generated by interfering two independent polarisation squeezed fields on a symmetric beam splitter. The resultant beams exhibit strong quantum noise correlations in the dark S1 - S2 polarisation plane. To verify entanglement generation, we character…
If a quantum channel or process cannot be described by any measure-and-prepare scheme, we may say the channel is in \textit{quantum domain} (QD) since it can transmit quantum correlations. The concept of QD clarifies the role of quantum channel in quantum information theory based on the local-operation-and-classical-communication (LOCC) paradigm: The quantum channel is only useful if it cannot be simulated by LOCC. We construct a simple scheme to verify that a given physical process or channel is in QD by using two non-orthogonal states. We also consider the application for the experiments suc…
We study the quantum phase transition of a N two-level atomic ensemble interacting with an optical degenerate parametric process, which can be described by the finite size Dicke Hamiltonian plus counter-rotating and quadratic field terms. Analytical closed forms of the critical coupling value and their corresponding separable ground states are derived in the weak and strong coupling regimes. The existence of bipartite entanglement between the two-level-system ensemble and photon field as well as between ensemble components for moderate coupling is shown through numerical analysis. Given a fini…
In this paper, we investigate comparatively the behaviors of quantum discord and concurrence for Werner states based on two bipartite entangled squeezed states. The maximally entangled squeezed states are regarded as a perfect-Werner states, while the non-maximally entangled squeezed states are called quasi-Werner states. We show that, the behavior of the quantum correlations keep unchanged for these two types of states. However, the quantum correlations amount presents in perfect-Werner states is very higher than that presents in quasi-Werner ones. Furthermore, we show that for large values o…
Using four-wave mixing in a hot atomic vapor, we generate a pair of entangled twin beams in the microsecond pulsed regime near the D1 line of $^{85}$Rb, making it compatible with commonly used quantum memory techniques. The beams are generated in the bright and vacuum-squeezed regimes, requiring two separate methods of analysis, without and with local oscillators, respectively. We report a noise reduction of up to $3.8\pm 0.2$ dB below the standard quantum limit in the pulsed regime and a level of entanglement that violates an Einstein--Podolsky--Rosen inequality.
We propose a protocol how to generate and verify bipartite Gaussian entanglement between two mechanical modes coupled to a single optical cavity, by means of short optical pulses and measurement. Our protocol requires neither the resolved sideband regime, nor low thermal phonon occupancy, and allows the generation and verification of quantum entanglement in less than a mechanical period of motion. Entanglement is generated via effective two-mode mechanical squeezing through conditioning position measurements. We study the robustness of entanglement to experimental deviations in mechanical freq…
So-called direct measurements of entanglement are collective measurements on multiple copies of a (bipartite or multipartite) quantum system that directly provide one a value for some entanglement measure, such as the concurrence for bipartite states. Multiple copies are needed since the entanglement of a mixed state is not a linear function of the density matrix. Unfortunately, so far all experimental implementations of direct measurements made unverified assumptions about the form of the states, and, therefore, do not qualify as entanglement verification tests. I discuss how a direct measure…
We examine how to signify and quantify the mesoscopic quantum coherence of approximate two-mode NOON states and spin-squeezed two-mode Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC). We identify two criteria that verify a nonzero quantum coherence between states with quantum number different by $n$. These criteria negate certain mixtures of quantum states, thereby signifying a generalised $n$-scopic Schrodinger cat-type paradox. The first criterion is the correlation $\langle\hat{a}^{\dagger n}\hat{b}^{n}\rangle\neq0$ (here $\hat{a}$ and $\hat{b}$ are the boson operators for each mode). The correlation manif…
Quantum entanglement is a crucial resource for a wide variety of quantum technologies. However, the current state-of-art methods to generate quantum entanglement in optomechanical systems are not as efficient as all-optical methods utilizing nonlinear crystals. This article proposes a new scheme in which two single-mode squeezed light fields are injected into an optomechanical cavity. We demonstrate through our numerical simulations that the quantum entanglement can be substantially enhanced with the careful selection of squeezing strength and squeezing angle of the two quadrature squeezed lig…
Gravitational well is a widely used system for the verification of the quantum weak equivalence principle (WEP). We have studied the quantum gravitational well (GW) under the shed of noncommutative (NC) space so that the results can be utilized for testing the validity of WEP in NC-space. To keep our study widely usable, we have considered both position-position and momentum-momentum noncommutativity. Since coherent state (CS) structure provides a natural bridging between the classical and quantum domain descriptions, the quantum domain validity of purely classical phenomena like free-fall und…
In this work we estimate the transverse Schmidt number for the bipartite bright squeezed vacuum state by means of second-order intensity correlation function measurement. Assuming that the number of modes is equal in both beams we determine the Schmidt number considering only one of the subsystems. The obtained results demonstrate that this approach is equally efficient over the whole propagation of the state from the near field to the far field regions of its emitter.
Entanglement had played a crucial role in developing frontier technologies as a critical resource, for instance, in quantum teleportation and quantum sensing schemes. Notably, thanks to the ability to cool down the vibrational modes of mechanical oscillators to its quantum regime, entanglement between mechanical modes and the production of nonclassical mechanical states have emerged as central resources for quantum technological applications. Thus, proposing deterministic schemes to achieve those tasks is of paramount importance. While the dominant scheme for bipartite mechanical entanglement …
The pairwise quantum correlations in a tripartite optomechanical system comprising a mechanical mode and two optical modes are analyzed. The Simon criterion is used as a witness of the separability. Whereas, the Gaussian discord is employed to capture the quantumness of correlations. Both entanglement and Gaussian discord are evaluated as functions of the parameters characterizing the environment and the system (temperature, squeezing and optomechanical coupling). We work in the resolved-sideband regime. We show that it is possible to reach simultaneous three bipartite entanglements via the qu…
We investigate quantum nonlocality of a single-photon entangled state under feasible measurement techniques consisting of on-off and homodyne detections along with unitary operations of displacement and squeezing. We test for a potential violation of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality, in which each of the bipartite party has a freedom to choose between 2 measurement settings, each measurement yielding a binary outcome. We find that single-photon quantum nonlocality can be detected when two or less of the 4 total measurements are carried out by homodyne detection. The largest vio…
We study the properties of bi-squeezed tripartite Gaussian states created by two spontaneous parametric down-conversion processes that share a common idler. We give a complete description of the quantum correlations across of all partitions, as well as of the genuine multipartite entanglement, obtaining analytical expressions for most of the quantities of interest. We find that the state contains genuine tripartite entanglement, in addition to the bipartite entanglement among the modes that are directly squeezed. We also investigate the effect of homodyne detection of the photons in the common…
We show that {\it one} single-mode squeezed state distributed among $N$ parties using linear optics suffices to produce a truly $N$-partite entangled state for any nonzero squeezing and arbitrarily many parties. From this $N$-partite entangled state, via quadrature measurements of $N-2$ modes, bipartite entanglement between any two of the $N$ parties can be `distilled', which enables quantum teleportation with an experimentally determinable fidelity better than could be achieved in any classical scheme.
Almost all novel observable phenomena in quantum optics are related to the quantum coherence. The coherence here is determined by the relative phase inside a state. Unfortunately, so far all the relevant experimental results in quantum optics are insensitive to the phase information of the coherent state. Lack of phase information may cause serious consequences in many problems in quantum optics. For example, an ensemble of two mode squeezed states is a classical ensemble if the phase in each state is totally random; but it is a non-classical ensemble if the phase in each state is fixed. As a …
Bell's inequality for continuous-variable bipartite systems is studied. The inequality is expressed in terms of pseudo-spin operators and quantum expectation values are calculated for generic two-mode squeezed states characterized by a squeezing parameter $r$ and a squeezing angle $φ$. Allowing for generic values of the squeezing angle is especially relevant when $φ$ is not under experimental control, such as in cosmic inflation, where small quantum fluctuations in the early Universe are responsible for structures formation. Compared to previous studies restricted to $φ=0$ and to a fixed orien…
An optical procedure in the context of continuous variables to verify bipartite entanglement without destroying both systems and their entanglement is proposed. To perform the nondestructive verification of entanglement, the method relies on beam-splitter and quantum nondemolition (QND) interactions of the signal modes with two ancillary probe modes. The probe modes are measured by homodyne detections, and the obtained information is used to feed forward modulation of signal modes, concluding the procedure. Characterizing the method by figures of merit used in QND processes, we can establish t…
Efficient verification of the functioning of quantum devices is a key to the development of quantum technologies, but is a daunting task as the system size increases. Here we propose a simple and general framework for verifying unitary transformations that can be applied to both individual quantum gates and gate sets, including quantum circuits. This framework enables efficient verification of many important unitary transformations, including but not limited to all bipartite unitaries, Clifford unitaries, generalized controlled-$Z$ gates, generalized controlled-NOT gates, the controlled-SWAP g…
We introduce a simple and efficient technique to verify quantum discord in unknown Gaussian states and a certain class of non-Gaussian states. We show that any separation in the peaks of the marginal distributions of one subsystem conditioned on two different outcomes of homodyne measurements performed on the other subsystem indicates correlation between the corresponding quadratures, and hence nonzero discord. We also apply this method to non-Gaussian states that are prepared by overlapping a statistical mixture of coherent and vacuum states on a beam splitter. We experimentally demonstrate t…
We show that the nanoresonator position can be squeezed significantly below the ground state level by measuring the nanoresonator with a quantum point contact or a single-electron transistor and applying a periodic voltage across the detector. The mechanism of squeezing is basically a generalization of quantum nondemolition measurement of an oscillator to the case of continuous measurement by a weakly coupled detector. The quantum feedback is necessary to prevent the ``heating'' due to measurement back-action. We also discuss a procedure of experimental verification of the squeezed state.
