Maximal Discrete Subgroups of $SO^+(2,n+2)$

We characterize the maximal discrete subgroups of $SO^+(2,n+2)$, which contain the discriminant kernel of an even lattice, which contains two hyperbolic planes over $\mathbb{Z}$. They coincide with the normalizers in $SO^+(2,n+2)$ and are given by the group of all integral matrices inside $SO^+(2,n+2)$, whenever the underlying lattice is maximal even. Finally we deal with the irreducible root lattices as examples.

Maximal Eisenstein ideals and cuspidal subgroups of modular Jacobian varieties

In this paper, we study the torsion subgroup of $J_0(N)$ over the field generated by those points in the cuspidal group, where $N$ is an odd positive integer. We prove that, considered as Hecke modules, this group and the cuspidal subgroup are both supported at the maximal Eisenstein ideals.

On the Eisenstein functoriality in cohomology for maximal parabolic subgroups

In his paper, 'On torsion in the cohomology of locally symmetric varieties', Peter Scholze has introduced a new, purely topological method to construct the cohomology classes on arithmetic quotients of symmetric spaces of rational reductive groups originating from the cohomology of the similar quotients of Levi subgroups of maximal parabolic subgroups. We extend this construction beyond the cases he considers, and, in the complex case, to the cohomology of local systems.

Rational approximation of the maximal commutative subgroups of GL(n,R)

How to find "best rational approximations" of maximal commutative subgroups of GL(n,R)? In this paper we pose and make first steps in the study of this problem. It contains both classical problems of Diophantine and simultaneous approximations as a particular subcases but in general is much wider. We prove estimates for n=2 for both totaly real and complex cases and write the algorithm to construct best approximations of a fixed size. Semistable reduction of modular curves associated with maximal subgroups in prime level

We complete the description of semistable models for modular curves associated with maximal subgroups of $\mathrm{GL}_2 ({\mathbb F}_p )$ (for $p$ any prime, $p>5$). That is, in the new cases of non-split Cartan modular curves and exceptional subgroups, we identify the irreducible components and singularities of the reduction mod $p$, and the complete local rings at the singularities. We review the case of split Cartan modular curves. This description suffices for computing the group of connected components of the fibre at $p$ of the Néron model of the Jacobian.

A Manin-Mumford theorem for the maximal compact subgroup of a universal vectorial extension of a product of elliptic curves

We study the intersection of an algebraic variety with the maximal compact subgroup of a universal vectorial extension of a product of elliptic curves. For this intersection we show a Manin-Mumford type statement. This answers some questions posed by Corvaja-Masser-Zannier which arose in connection with their investigation of the intersection of a curve with real analytic subgroups of various algebraic groups. Maximal finite subgroups and minimal classes

We apply Voronoi's algorithm to compute representatives of the conjugacy classes of maximal finite subgroups of the unit group of a maximal order in some simple $\QQ $-algebra. This may be used to show in small cases that non-conjugate orders have non-isomorphic unit groups.

We begin with a review of the structure of simple, simply-connected complex Lie groups and their Lie algebras, describe the Chevalley lattice and the associated split group over the integers.
