In this paper, we study partitions of positive integers with restrictions involving squares. We mainly establish the following two results (which were conjectured by Sun in 2013):
(i) Each positive integer $n$ can be written as $n=x+y+z$ with $x,y,z$ positive integers such that $x^2+y^2+z^2$ is a square, unless $n$ has the form $n=2^{a}3^{b}$ or $2^{a}7$ with $a$ and $b$ nonnegative integers.
(ii) Each integer $n>7$ with $n\not=11,14,17$ can be written as $n=x+y+2z$ with $x,y,z$ positive integers such that $x^2+y^2+2z^2$ is a square.
We give a new proof of Chan's identity involving the cubic partition function and we also give a new identity for the cubic partition function which is analogues to the Zuckerman's identity for the ordinary partition function.
Using previous work by Merca, we show the partition function involving parts of k different magnitudes, shifted by the triangular numbers, equals the self convolution of the unrestricted partition function. We also provide a combinatorial proof of this result.
Relations involving the Rogers-Ramanujan continued fractions $R(q),$ $R(q^3 ),$ and $R(q^4)$ are used to find new generating functions and congruences modulo 5 and 25 for 3-core, 4-core, 4-regular, and colored partition functions.
In the quantum theory, using the notion of partial supersymmetry, in which some, but not all, operators have superpartners we derive the Euler theorem in partition theory. The paraferminic partition function gives another identity in partition theory with restrictions. Also an explicit formula for the graded parafermionic partition function is obtained. It turns out that the ratio of the former partition function to the latter is given in terms of the Jacobi Theta function, $θ_{4}$. The inverted graded parafermionic partition function is shown to be a generating function of partitions of numbe…
The well-known Lagrange's four-square theorem states that any integer $n\in\mathbb{N}=\{0,1,2,...\}$ can be written as the sum of four squares. Recently, Z.-W. Sun investigated the representations of $n$ as $x^2+y^2+z^2+w^2$ with certain linear restrictions involving the integer variables $x,y,z,w$. In this paper, via the theory of quadratic forms, we further study the representations $n=x^2+y^2+z^2+w^2$ (resp., $n=x^2+y^2+z^2+2w^2$) with certain linear restrictions involving primes. For example, we obtain the following results: (i) Each positive integer $n>1$ can be written as $x^2+y^2+z^2+2w…
In this note, we will give proofs of two congruences involving broken 3-diamond partitions and broken 5-diamond partitions which were conjectured by Peter Paule and Silviu Radu.
We introduce two new integer partition functions, both of which are the number of partition quadruples of $n$ with certain size restrictions. We prove both functions satisfy Ramanujan-type congruences modulo $3$, $5$, $7$, and $13$ by use of generalized Lambert series identities and $q$-series techniques.
In this paper, we study a family of single variable integral representations for some products of $ζ(2n+1)$, where $ζ(z)$ is Riemann zeta function and $n$ is positive integer. Such representation involves the integral $Lz(a,b):=\frac{1}{(a-1)!b!}\int_{0}^{1}\log^a (t)\log^b (1-t)dt/t$ with positive integers $a,b$, which is related to Nielsen's generalized polylogarithms. By analyzing the related partition problem, we discuss the structure of such integral representation, especially the condition of expressing products of $ζ(2n+1)$ by finite $\mathbb{Q}(π)$-linear combination of $Lz(a,b)$.
Fibonacci numbers can be expressed in terms of multinomial coefficients as sums over integer partitions into odd parts. We use this fact to introduce a family of double inequalities involving the generating function for the number of partitions into odd parts and the generating function for the number of odd divisors.
We combine an extended version of Bailey's transform with an identity of Bressoud and with some identities of Berkovich and Warnaar to prove a variety of positivity results for alternating sums involving partition functions.
For each $s\in\{2,4\}$, the generating function of $R_s(n)$, the number of partitions of $n$ into odd parts or congruent to $0$, $\pm s\pmod {10}$, arises naturally in regime III of Rodney Baxter's solution of the hard-hexagon model of statistical mechanics. For each $s\in\{1,3\}$, the generating function of $R^*_s(n)$, the number of partitions of $n$ into parts not congruent to $0$, $\pm s\pmod {10}$ and $10-2s \pmod {20}$, arises naturally in regime IV of Rodney Baxter's solution of the hard-hexagon model of statistical mechanics. In this paper, we investigate the parity of $R_s(n)$ and $R^*…
This paper has a two-fold purpose. First, by considering a reformulation of a deep theorem of Göllnitz, we obtain a new weighted partition identity involving the Rogers-Ramanujan partitions, namely, partitions into parts differing by at least two. Consequences of this include Jacobi's celebrated triple product identity for theta functions, Sylvester's famous refinement of Euler's theorem, as well as certain weighted partition identities. Next, by studying partitions with prescribed bounds on successive ranks and replacing these with weighted Rogers-Ramanujan partitions, we obtain two new sets …
We construct an easily described family of partitions of the positive integers into $n$ disjoint sets with essentially the same structure for every $n \geq 2$. In a special case, it interpolates between the Beatty $\frac{1}ϕ + \frac{1}{ϕ^2} = 1$ partitioning ($n=2$) and the 2-adic partitioning in the limit as $n \rightarrow \infty$. We then analyze how membership of elements in the sets of one partition relates to membership in the sets of another. We investigate in detail the interactions of two Beatty partitions with one another and the interactions of the $ϕ$ Beatty partition mentioned abov…
For a positive integer $t\geq 2$, let $b_{t}(n)$ denote the number of $t$-regular partitions of a nonnegative integer $n$. In a recent paper, Keith and Zanello investigated the parity of $b_{t}(n)$ when $t\leq 28$. They discovered new infinite families of Ramanujan type congruences modulo 2 for $b_{21}(n)$ involving every prime $p$ with $p\equiv 13, 17, 19, 23 \pmod{24}$. In this paper, we investigate the parity of $b_{21}(n)$ involving the primes $p$ with $p\equiv 1, 5, 7, 11 \pmod{24}$. We prove new infinite families of Ramanujan type congruences modulo 2 for $b_{21}(n)$ involving the odd pr…
Numerical semigroups are cofinite additive submonoids of the natural numbers. In 2011, Keith and Nath illustrated an injection from numerical semigroups to integer partitions. We explore this connection between partitions and numerical semigroups with a focus on classifying the partitions that appear in the image of the injection from numerical semigroups. In particular, we count the number of partitions that correspond to numerical semigroups in terms of genus, Frobenius number, and multiplicity, with some restrictions.
New identities and congruences involving the ranks and cranks of partitions are proved. The proof depends on a new partial differential equation connecting their generating functions.

In a work of 1995, Alladi, Andrews, and Gordon provided a generalization of the two Capparelli identities involving certain classes of integer partitions. Inspired by that contribution, in particular as regards the general setting and the tools the authors employed, we obtain new partition identities by identifying further sets of partitions that can be explicitly put into a one-to-one correspondence by the method described in the 1995 paper. As a further result, although of a different nature, we obtain an analytical identity of Rogers-Ramanujan type, involving generating functions, for a cla…
For positive integers $s$ and $L \geq 3$, Berkovich and Uncu (Ann. Comb. $23$ ($2019$) $263$--$284$) conjectured an inequality between the sizes of two closely related sets of partitions whose parts lie in the interval $\{s, \ldots, L+s\}$. Further restrictions are placed on the sets by specifying impermissible parts as well as a minimum part. The authors proved their conjecture for the cases $s=1$ and $s=2$. In the present article, we prove the conjecture for general $s$ by proving a stronger theorem. We also prove other related conjectures found in the same paper.
