We continue the study dilation of linear maps on vector spaces introduced by Bhat, De, and Rakshit. This notion is a variant of vector space dilation introduced by Han, Larson, Liu, and Liu. We derive vector space versions of Wold decomposition, Halmos dilation, N-dilation, inter-twining lifting theorem and a variant of Ando dilation. It is noted further that unlike a kind of uniqueness of Halmos dilation of strict contractions on Hilbert spaces, vector space version of Halmos dilation can not be characterized.
A proof using the theory of completely positive maps is given to the fact that if $A \in M_2$, or $A \in M_3$ has a reducing eigenvalue, then every bounded linear operator $B$ with $W(B) \subseteq W(A)$ has a dilation of the form $I \otimes A$. This gives a unified treatment for the different cases of the result obtained by researchers using different techniques.
We develop elements of a general dilation theory for operator-valued measures and bounded linear maps between operator algebras that are not necessarily completely-bounded. We prove our main results by extending and generalizing some known results from the theory of frames and framings.
We will give an outline of the main results in our recent AMS Memoir, and include some new results, exposition and open problems. In that memoir we developed a general dilation theory for operator valued measures acting on Banach spaces where operator-valued measures (or maps) are not necessarily completely bounded. The main results state that any operator-valued measure, not necessarily completely bounded, always has a dilation to a projection-valued measure acting on a Banach space, and every bounded linear map, again not necessarily completely bounded, on a Banach algebra has a bounded homo…
We study some factorisation and dilation properties of completely positive maps on noncommutative L^p-spaces. We show that Akcoglu's dilation theorem for positive contractions on classical (=commutative) L^p-spaces has no reasonable analog in the noncommutative setting. Our study relies on non symmetric analogs of Pisier's operator space valued noncommutative L^p-spaces that we investigate in the first part of the paper.
We establish a finite-dimensional version of the Arveson-Stinespring dilation theorem for unital completely positive maps on operator systems. This result can be seen as a general principle to deduce finite-dimensional dilation theorems from their classical infinite-dimensional counterparts. In addition to providing unified proofs of known finite-dimensional dilation theorems, we establish finite-dimensional versions of Agler's theorem on rational dilation on an annulus, of Berger's dilation theorem for operators of numerical radius at most $1$, and of the Putinar-Sandberg numerical range dila…
We consider contractive homomorphisms of a planar algebra ${\mathcal A}(Ω)$ over a finitely connected bounded domain $Ω\subseteq \C$ and ask if they are necessarily completely contractive. We show that a homomorphism $ρ:{\mathcal A}(Ω) \to {\mathcal B}(\mathcal H)$ for which $\dim({\mathcal A}(Ω)/\ker ρ) = 2$ is the direct integral of homomorphisms $ρ_T$ induced by operators on two dimensional Hilbert spaces via a suitable functional calculus $ρ_T: f \mapsto f(T), f\in {\mathcal A}(Ω)$. It is well-known that contractive homomorphisms $ρ_T$, induced by a linear transformation $T:\C^2 \to \C^2$ …
We present a unitary approach to the construction of representations and intertwining operators. We apply it to the $C^*$-algebras, groups, Gabor type unitary systems and wavelets. We give an application of our method to the theory of frames, and we prove a general dilation theorem which is in turn applied to specific cases, and we obtain in this way a dilation theorem for wavelets.
A very general KSGNS type dilation theorem in the context of right (not necessarily Hilbert) modules over $C^*$-algebras is presented. The proof uses Kolmogorov type decompositions for positive-definite kernels with values in spaces of sesquilinear maps. More specific functional analytic applications are obtained by adding assumptions.
The classical completeness problem raised by Beurling and independently by Wintner asks for which $ψ\in L^2(0,1)$, the dilation system $\{ψ(kx):k=1,2,\cdots\}$ is complete in $L^2(0,1)$, where $ψ$ is identified with its extension to an odd $2$-periodic function on $\mathbb{R}$. This difficult problem is nowadays commonly called as the Periodic Dilation Completeness Problem (PDCP). By Beurling's idea and an application of the Bohr transform, the PDCP is translated as an equivalent problem of characterizing cyclic vectors in the Hardy space $\mathbf{H}_\infty^2$ over the infinite-dimensional pol…
We prove that any weak* continuous semigroup $(T_t)_{t \geq 0}$ of factorizable Markov maps acting on a von Neumann algebra $M$ equipped with a normal faithful state can be dilated by a group of Markov $*$-automorphisms analogous to the case of a single factorizable Markov operator, which is an optimal result. We also give a version of this result for strongly continuous semigroups of operators acting on noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces and examples of semigroups to which the results of this paper can be applied. Our results implies the boundedness of the McIntosh's $\mathrm{H}^\infty$ fun…
We develop a completely bounded counterpart to the non-commutative Choquet boundary of an operator space. We show how the class of completely bounded linear maps is too large to accommodate our purposes. To overcome this obstacle, we isolate the subset of completely bounded linear maps on an operator space admitting a dilation of the same norm which is multiplicative on the generated $C^*$-algebra. We view such maps as analogues of the familiar unital completely contractive maps, and we exhibit many of their structural properties. Of particular interest to us are those maps which are extremal …
We consider the dilation property of the modulation spaces $M^{p,q}$. Let $D_λ:f(t)\mapsto f(λt)$ be the dilation operator, and we consider the behavior of the operator norm $\|D_λ\|_{M^{p,q}\to M^{p,q}}$ with respect to $λ$. Our result determines the best order for it, and as an application, we establish the optimality of the inclusion relation between the modulation spaces and Besov space, which was proved by Toft.

Motivated by a general dilation theory for operator-valued measures, framings and bounded linear maps on operator algebras, we consider the dilation theory of the above objects with special structures. We show that every operator-valued system of imprimitivity has a dilation to a probability spectral system of imprimitivity acting on a Banach space. This completely generalizes a well-kown result which states that every frame representation of a countable group on a Hilbert space is unitarily equivalent to a subrepresentation of the left regular representation of the group. The dilated space in…
For $2\le p<\infty$ we show the lower estimates \[ \|A^{\frac 12}x\|_p \kl c(p)\max\{\pl \|Γ(x,x)^{1/2}\|_p,\pl \|Γ(x^*,x^*)^{1/2}\|_p\} \] for the Riesz transform associated to a semigroup $(T_t)$ of completely positive maps on a von Neumann algebra with negative generator $T_t=e^{-tA}$, and gradient form \[ 2Γ(x,y)\lel Ax^*y+x^*Ay-A(x^*y)\pl .\] As additional hypothesis we assume that $Γ^2\gl 0$ and the existence of a Markov dilation for $(T_t)$. We give applications to quantum metric spaces and show the equivalence of semigroup Hardy norms and martingale Hardy norms derived from the Markov …
We consider the coorbit theory associated to general continuous wavelet transforms arising from a square-integrable, irreducible quasi-regular representation of a semidirect product group $G = \mathbb{R}^d \rtimes H$. The existence of coorbit spaces for this very general setting has been recently established, together with concrete vanishing moment criteria for analyzing vectors and atoms that can be used in the coorbit scheme. These criteria depend on fairly technical assumptions on the dual action of the dilation group, and it is one of the chief purposes of this paper to considerably simpli…
Let $B_E$ be the open unit ball of a complex finite or infinite dimensional Hilbert space. If $f$ belongs to the space $\mathcal{B}(B_E)$ of Bloch functions on $B_E$, we prove that the dilation map given by $x \mapsto (1-\|x\|^2) \mathcal{R} f(x)$ for $x \in B_E$, where $\mathcal{R} f$ denotes the radial derivative of $f$, is Lipschitz continuous with respect to the pseudohyperbolic distance $ρ_E$ in $B_E$, which extends to the finite and infinite dimensional setting the result given for the classical Bloch space $\mathcal{B}$. In order to provide this result, we will need to prove that $ρ_E(z…
This paper considers coorbit spaces parametrized by mixed, weighted Lebesgue spaces with respect to the quasi-regular representation of the semi-direct product of Euclidean space and a suitable matrix dilation group. The class of dilation groups that we allow, the so-called integrably admissible dilation groups, contains the matrix groups yielding an irreducible, square-integrable quasi-regular representation as a proper subclass. The obtained scale of coorbit spaces extends therefore the well-studied wavelet coorbit spaces associated to discrete series representations. We show that for any in…
A bounded linear Hilbert space operator $S$ is said to be a $2$-isometry if the operator $S$ and its adjoint $S^*$ satisfy the relation $S^{*2}S^{2} - 2 S^{*}S + I = 0$. In this paper, we study Hilbert space operators having liftings or dilations to $2$-isometries. The adjoint of an operator which admits such liftings is characterized as the restriction of a backward shift on a Hilbert space of vector-valued analytic functions. These results are applied to concave operators (i.e., operators $S$ such that $S^{*2}S^{2} - 2 S^{*}S + I \le 0$) and to operators similar to contractions or isometries…
We consider positive semidefinite kernels valued in the $*$-algebra of adjointable operators on a VE-space (Vector Euclidean space) and that are invariant under actions of $*$-semigroups. A rather general dilation theorem is stated and proved: for these kind of kernels, representations of the $*$-semigroup on either the VE-spaces of linearisation of the kernels or on their reproducing kernel VE-spaces are obtainable. We point out the reproducing kernel fabric of dilation theory and we show that the general theorem unifies many dilation results at the non topological level.
For any Ritt operator T:L^{p}(Ω) --> L^{p}(Ω), for any positive real number α, and for any x in L^{p}, we consider the square functions |x |_{T,α} = \Bigl| \Bigl(\sum_{k=1}^{\infty} k^{2α-1}\bigl |T^{k-1}(I-T)^αx \bigr|^2 \Bigr)^{1/2}_{L^{p}}. We show that if T is actually an R-Ritt operator, then these square functions are pairwise equivalent. Then we show that T and its adjoint T* acting on L^{p'} both satisfy uniform estimates |x|_{T,1} \lesssim |x|_{L^{p}} and |y|_{T*,1} \lesssim |y|_{L^{p'}} for x in L^{p} and y in L^{p'} if and only if T is R-Ritt and admits a dilation in the following s…
We study continuous wavelet transforms associated to matrix dilation groups giving rise to an irreducible square-integrable quasi-regular representation on ${\rm L}^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$. We first prove that these representations are integrable as well, with respect to a wide variety of weights, thus allowing to consistently quantify coefficient decay via coorbit space norms. We then show that these spaces always admit an atomic decomposition in terms of bandlimited Schwartz wavelets. We exhibit spaces of Schwartz functions densely contained in (most of) the coorbit spaces. We also present an examp…
We extend the recent result of G. Godefroy which concerns the existence of non-norm attaining Lipschitz maps in order to characterize the norm attainment toward vectors for Lipschitz maps in the general setting of underlying space. The main theorem of the present paper states that the existence of non-norm attaining Lipschitz maps toward vectors on a large class of metric spaces is characterized by the finite-dimensionality of range space. As an extension of his counterexample, some denseness results on norm attaining Lipschitz maps toward vectors are also shown.
We propose a unified approach to the study of isometries on algebras of vector-valued Lipschitz maps and those of continuously differentiable maps by means of the notion of admissible quadruples. We describe isometries on function spaces of some admissible quadruples that take values in unital commutative $C^*$-algebras. As a consequence we confirm the statement of \cite[Example 8]{jp} on Lipschitz algebras and show that isometries on such algebras indeed take the canonical form.
In this paper we give a description of separating or disjointness preserving linear bijections on spaces of vector-valued absolutely continuous functions defined on compact subsets of the real line. We obtain that they are continuous and biseparating in the finite-dimensional case. The infinite-dimensional case is also studied.
In this work, some counterexamples are given to refute some results reported in the paper by Guo and Li [8] (J Optim Theory Appl 162,(2014), 821-844). We correct the faulty in some of their theorems and we present alternative proofs. Moreover, we extend the definition of approximately pseudo-dissipative in the setting of metrizable topological vector spaces.
For metric spaces $X$ and $Y$, normed spaces $E$ and $F$, and certain subspaces $A(X,E)$ and $A(Y,F)$ of vector-valued continuous functions, we obtain a complete characterization of linear and bijective maps $T:A(X,E)\to A(Y,F)$ preserving common zeros, that is, maps satisfying the property \setcounter{equation}{15} \label{dub} Z(f)\cap Z(g)\neq \emptyset \Longleftrightarrow Z(Tf)\cap Z(Tg)\neq \emptyset for any $f,g\in A(X,E)$, where $Z(f)=\{x\in X:f(x)=0\}$. Moreover, we provide some examples of subspaces for which the automatic continuity of linear bijections having the property (\ref{dub})…
In this paper we study weighted Hardy-Sobolev spaces of vector valued functions analytic on double-napped cones of the complex plane. We introduce these spaces as a tool for complex scaling of linear ordinary differential equations with dilation analytic unbounded operator coefficients. As examples we consider boundary value problems in cylindrical domains and domains with quasicylindrical ends.
We introduce an operator $\mathbf{S}$ on vector-valued maps $u$ which has the ability to capture the relevant topological information carried by $u$. In particular, this operator is defined on maps that take values in a closed submanifold $N$ of the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^m$, and coincides with the distributional Jacobian in case $N$ is a sphere. The range of $\mathbf{S}$ is a set of maps whose values are flat chains with coefficients in a suitable normed abelian group. In this paper, we use $\mathbf{S}$ to characterise strong limits of smooth, $N$-valued maps with respect to Sobolev norm…
