We propose to introduce non-minimal couplings of Affleck-Dine (AD) field to gravity by adding the coupling of AD field to the Ricci scalar curvature. As the Jordan frame supergravity always predict $|Φ|^2 {\cal R}/6$ type coupling for scalars with canonical kinetic terms, we propose a way to realize the required $c_0|Φ|^2 {\cal R}$-type couplings with generic $c_0$ for canonical complex scalar fields after SUSY breaking. The impacts of such non-minimal gravitational couplings for AD field is shown, especially on the Q-balls formation and the associated gravitational wave (GW) productions. New form of scalar potential for AD field in the Einstein frame is obtained. By numerical simulations, we find that, with non-minimal gravitational coupling to AD field, Q-balls can successfully form even with the choice of non-negative $K$ parameter for $ξ>0$. The associated GW productions as well as their dependences on the $ξ$ parameter are also discussed.
We study the detectability of the gravitational waves (GWs) from the Q-ball formation associated with the Affleck-Dine (AD) mechanism, taking into account both of the dilution effect due to Q-ball domination and of finite temperature effects. The AD mechanism predicts the formation of non-topological solitons, Q-balls, from which GWs are generated. Q-balls with large conserved charge $Q$ can produce a large amount of GWs. On the other hand, the decay rate of such Q-balls is so small that they may dominate the energy density of the universe, which implies that GWs are significantly diluted and …
A generic consequence of supersymmetry is formation of a scalar condensate along the flat directions of the potential at the end of cosmological inflation. This condensate is usually unstable, and it can fragment into non-topological solitons, Q-balls. The gravitational waves produced by the fragmentation can be detected by Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA), Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), and Big Bang Observer (BBO), which can offer an important window on the early universe and the physics at some very high energy scales.
It is shown that at the center of gravitating fluid ball there is the phase transition of second kind of gravitational field as a change of field's algebraic type.
It is shown that the description of collapse given by the classic model of Oppenheimer and Snyder fails to satisfy a crucial matching condition at the surface of the ball. After correcting the model so that the interior and exterior metrics match correctly, it is established that the contraction process stops at the Schwarzschild radius, that there is an accumulation of particles at the surface of the ball, and that in the limit of infinite time lapse the density of particles at the surface becomes infinite. A black hole cannot form. This result confirms the judgements of both Einstein and Edd…
We describe a special class of ballistic geodesics in Schwarzschild space-time, extending to the horizon in the infinite past and future of observer time, which are characterized by the property that they are in 1-1 correspondence, and completely degenerate in energy and angular momentum, with stable circular orbits. We derive analytic expressions for the source terms in the Regge-Wheeler and Zerilli-Moncrief equations for a point-particle moving on such a ballistic orbit, and compute the gravitational waves emitted during the infall in an Extreme Mass Ratio black-hole binary coalescence. In t…
This article reports on emergence of structures in a class of alternative theories of gravity. These theories do not have any horizon, flatness, initial cosmological singularity and (possibly) quantization problems. The model is characterised by a dynamically induced gravitational constant with a ``wrong'' sign corresponding to repulsive gravitation on the large scale. A non - minimal coupling of a scalar field in the model can give rise to non - topological solitons in the theory. This results in domains (gravity - balls) inside which an effective, canonical, attractive gravitational constant…
This paper is a sequel to the series of papers [gr-qc/9409010, gr-qc/9505034, gr-qc/9603022, gr-qc/9609035, gr-qc/9609046, gr-qc/9704033, gr-qc/9704038, gr-qc/9708014], being an immediate continuation and supplement to the last of them, where gravitational autolocalization of a body has been considered. A resulting solution, which describes a one-place location, has been called gravilon. Here it is shown that a gravilon is the only solution, i.e., that many-place gravitational autolocalization is unreal. This is closely related to nonreality of tunneling in the conditions under consideration.
We have shown intriguing similarities between Schwinger balls and black holes. By considering black hole as a gravitational Schwinger ball, we have derived the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and the first law of black hole thermodynamics as a direct result of the inverse area dependence of the gravitational force. It is also shown that the Planck length is nothing but the gravitational Schwinger length. The relation between the mass and the radius of the black hole is derived by considering the black hole as a Schwinger ball of gravitons. We show how the evolution of the entanglement entropy of th…
Plasma balls and rings emerge as fluid holographic duals of black holes and black rings in the hydrodynamic/gravity correspondence for the Scherk-Schwarz AdS system. Recently, plasma balls spinning above a critical rotation were found to be unstable against m-lobed perturbations. In the phase diagram of stationary solutions the threshold of the instability signals a bifurcation to a new phase of non-axisymmetric configurations. We find explicitly this family of solutions and represent them in the phase diagram. We discuss the implications of our results for the gravitational system. Rotating n…
General Relativity predicts two modes for plane gravitational waves. When a tiny violation of Lorentz invariance occurs, the two gravitational wave modes are modified. We use perturbation theory to study the detailed form of the modifications to the two gravitational wave modes from the minimal Lorentz-violation coupling. The perturbation solution for the metric fluctuation up to the first order in Lorentz violation is discussed. Then, we investigate the motions of test particles under the influence of the plane gravitational waves with Lorentz violation. First-order deviations from the usual …
In theories of gravitation in which dimensional parameters are dynamically induced, one can have non - topological - soliton solutions. This article reviews related topics connected with such solutions. The existence of such solutions in curved spacetime can give rise to halos of gravity (g-) balls with gravitational ``constant" having different values inside and outside the ball. Such g - balls can have quite interesting bearing on the dark matter problem over galactic and cluster scales. We describe the origin of such solutions. We speculate on related problems in Cosmology. Such objects wou…
We consider inflation driven by an axion-like particle coupled to an SU(2) gauge sector via a Chern-Simons term. Known as chromo-natural inflation, this scenario is in tension with CMB observations. In order to remedy this fact and preserve both the symmetries and the intriguing gravitational wave phenomenology exhibited by the model, we explore the non-minimal coupling of the axion-inflaton to the Einstein tensor. We identify regions of parameter space corresponding to a viable cosmology at CMB scales. We also highlight the possibility of a large and chiral gravitational wave signal at small …
The existence of non trivial, non topological solutions in a class of induced, effective gravity models arising out of a non minimally coupled scalar field is established. We shall call such solutions ``Gravity Balls'' as the effective gravitational constant inside the soliton differs from its effective value outside.
Besides the singularity problem, the famous Oppenheimer and Snyder solution is discovered to be of deficiency in two aspects: the internal Friedmann space-time does not have the inherent symmetry and cannot connect to the external Schwarzschild space-time. So the process of gravitational collapse described by this solution is doubtful. The deficiency, together with the singularity problem, result from the imperfection of the field theory in continuous space-time, which is expressed by the infinite precision function theory. The space-time structure of the Oppenheimer and Snyder dust ball is fo…
Schwarzschild's 'interior solution' is a space-time metric that satisfies Einstein's gravitational field equations with a source term that Einstein created on the basis of an unjustified identification of the conceptually distinct notions of the passive gravitational mass of matter and the active gravitational mass of matter. Giving up that assumption allows deriving from a variational principle new and better (because logically obtained) field equations that more faithfully extend the Poisson equation for Newton's gravity than do Einstein's, with an active gravitational mass density providing…
We construct a family of instanton metric obtained from new exact singular solutions for minimal surfaces by noticing the correspondence between minimal surfaces in the three dimesional Euclidean space and gravitational instantons possessing two killing vectors. By Calabi's correspondence, we derive a family of explicit maximal surface solution for spacelike surface with zero mean curvature equation.
The first law of causal diamonds relates the area deficit of a small ball relative to flat space to the matter energy density it contains. At second order in the Riemann normal coordinate expansion, this energy density should receive contributions from the gravitational field itself. In this work, we study the second-order area deficit of the ball in the absence of matter and analyze its relation to possible notions of gravitational energy. In the small ball limit, any proposed gravitational energy functional should evaluate to the Bel-Robinson energy density $W$ in vacuum spacetimes. A direct…
We study the gravitational production of heavy X-particles of mass of the order of the inflaton mass, produced after the end of inflation. We find that, in the presence of a derivative coupling of the inflaton field or of the X-field to the Einstein tensor, the number of gravitationally produced particles is suppressed as the strength of the coupling is increased.
We establish a new self-consistent system of equations for the gravitational and electromagnetic fields. The procedure is based on a non-minimal non-linear extension of the standard Einstein-Hilbert-Maxwell action. General properties of a three-parameter family of non-minimal linear models are discussed. In addition, we show explicitly, that a static spherically symmetric charged object can be described by a non-minimal model, second order in the derivatives of the metric, when the susceptibility tensor is proportional to the double-dual Riemann tensor
A theory recently proposed by the author aims to explain decoherence and the thermodynamical behaviour of closed systems within a conservative, unitary, framework for quantum gravity by assuming that the operators tied to the gravitational degrees of freedom are unobservable and equating physical entropy with matter-gravity entanglement entropy. Here we obtain preliminary results on the extent of decoherence this theory predicts. We treat first a static state which, if one were to ignore quantum gravitational effects, would be a quantum superposition of two spatially displaced states of a sing…
