Data from the Muon g-2 experiment and measurements of the fine structure constant suggest that the anomalous magnetic moments of the muon and electron are at odds with standard model expectations. We survey the ability of axion-like-particles, two-Higgs-doublet models and leptoquarks to explain the discrepancies. We find that accounting for other constraints, all scenarios except the Type-I, Type-II and Type-Y two-Higgs-doublet models fit the data well.
We investigate the iso-doublet vector leptoquark $V_2$ as a solution to the $B$ anomalies $R_{K, K^*}$ and $R_{D,D^*}$, as well as explaining the muon and electron anomalous magnetic moments, and the very recent $W$-mass anomaly.
We study the phenomenological constraints and consequences in the flavor sector, of introducing a new fourth generation $\mathcal{Z}_{2}$ odd vector-like lepton doublet along with a Standard Model (SM) singlet scalar and an $SU(2)_{L}$ singlet scalar leptoquark carrying electromagnetic charge of $+2/3$, both odd under a $\mathcal{Z}_{2}$. We show that with little fine tuning among the various Yukawa couplings in the new physics (NP) Lagrangian along with the CKM parameters, the model is able to push the theoretical value of $R(D^{*})^{th}$ from $0.252 \pm 0.003$ to $0.263 \pm 0.051$ and $R(D)^…
We use a combined analysis of the semileptonic and leptonic branching ratios of the D mesons to constrain scalar leptoquark interactions and charged higgs-like interactions. For the THDM type II, we found that a low mass 6.3GeV < m_{H^+} < 63.1GeV for the charged Higgs is favored at 90% C.L. although at 95% there is still agreement with other constraints. We find for the leptoquark states a more restrictive bound than previous analysis.
In this study, we investigate muon $g-2$, $R_{K^{(*)}}$, and $R_{D^{(*)}}$ anomalies in a specific model with one doublet, one triplet, and one singlet scalar leptoquark (LQ). When the strict limits from the $\ell' \to \ell γ$, $ΔB=2$, $B_{s}\to μ^+ μ^-$, and $B^+ \to K^+ ν\barν$ processes are considered, it is difficult to use one scalar LQ to explain all of the anomalies due to the strong correlations among the constraints and observables. After ignoring the constraints and small couplings, the muon $g-2$ can be explained by the doublet LQ alone due to the $m_t$ enhancement, whereas the meas…
CP violation from physics beyond the Standard Model is investigated in $B_{l4}$ decays: $B\to Dπl\barν_l$. In the decay process, we include various excited states as intermediate states decaying to the final hadrons, $D+π$. We consider the semileptonic decay to a tau lepton family as well. The CP violation is implemented through complex scalar--fermion couplings in the multi-Higgs doublet model and scalar-leptoquark models beyond the Standard Model. With these complex couplings, we calculate the CP-odd rate asymmetry and the optimal asymmetry. We find that for $B_{τ4}$ decays the optimal asymm…
In this paper, axion models supplemented by leptoquarks and diquarks are systematically analyzed. Turning on some couplings to and among these latter states permits to unify the Peccei-Quinn symmetry with baryon (B) and lepton (L) numbers, such that the axion becomes associated to the spontaneous breaking of the three $U(1)$ symmetries. All possible four- and six-fermion patterns of B and L violation are discussed, including those inducing proton decay, with $ΔB = 1$ and $ΔL = \pm 1, \pm 3$, neutron-antineutron oscillations with $ΔB = 2$, and Majorana neutrino masses with $ΔL = 2$. Scenarios i…
We investigate the constraints on the leptoquark Yukawa couplings and Higgs-leptoquark quartic couplings for scalar doublet leptoquark $\tilde{R}_2$, scalar triplet leptoquark $\vec S_3$ and their combination with both three generations and one generation from perturbative unitarity and vacuum stability. Perturbative unitarity of all the dimensionless couplings have been studied via one- and two-loop beta-functions. Introduction of new $SU(2)$ multiplets in terms of these leptoquarks fabricate Landau poles at two-loop level in the gauge coupling $g_2$ at $10^{19.7}$ GeV and $10^{14.4}$ GeV, re…
Motivated by the disagreement between experimental and lattice QCD results on the D_s decay constant we systematically reinvestigate role of leptoquarks in charm meson decays. We consider scalar leptoquarks that transform as a weak interaction triplet, doublet, or singlet in a model independent approach, and also argue that in a particular SU(5) GUT model these leptoquark states, contained in the 45-dimensional Higgs representation, could be safe against proton decay bounds. Using the current experimental measurements in tau, kaon and charm sectors, we find that scalar leptoquarks cannot natur…
Collider searches for first-, second-, and third-generation scalar (S) or vector (V) leptoquarks (LQs) focus on the quark-lepton decay modes S,V -> q l. For SU(2)-doublet and -triplet leptoquarks with a sufficiently large splitting between the components, decays involving real W-boson emission (such as S_2^{(+5/3)} -> S_2^{(+2/3)} W^{+} and others) become possible and can change the patterns of leptoquark decays. For third-generation leptoquarks, where these mass splittings might be large, such modes could dominate certain leptoquark decays as they are (if kinematically allowed) guaranteed to …
If the recently discovered anomalous events at HERA are due to a scalar leptoquark, then it is very likely to have weak isospin $I = 1/2$. In that case, present precision measurements of the oblique radiative parameters $S$ and $T$ provide strong constraints on the mass of the other component of this doublet. If the standard model is extended to include such a doublet, a slightly better fit may in fact be obtained. However, in specific proposed models where this doublet comes from a larger symmetry, there are often additional large and positive contributions to $S$ from exotic heavy fermions w…
We study the phenomenology of a particular leptoquark extension of the Standard Model (SM), namely the doublet-singlet scalar leptoquark extension of the SM (DSL-SM). Besides generating Majorana mass for neutrinos, these leptoquarks contribute to muon and electron $(g-2)$ and various lepton flavour violating processes. Collider signatures of the benchmark points (BPs), consistent with the neutrino oscillation data, anomalous muon/electron magnetic moments, experimental bounds on the charged lepton flavour violation observables, etc., are studied at the LHC/FCC with centre-of-mass energies of 1…
The contributions of the scalar leptoquark doublets into widths of the $K^0_L \to e^{\mp} μ^{\pm}$, $B^0 \to e^{\mp} τ^{\pm}$ decays are calculated in MQLS model with Higgs mechanism of the quark-lepton mass splitting. The resulted mass limits for the scalar leptoquarks are investigated in comparision with those for vector and chiral gauge leptoquarks. It is shown that the scalar leptoquark mass limits are essentially weaker (about $200 GeV$) than those (a few hundreds $TeV$) for gauge leptoquarks. The search for such scalar leptoquark doublets at LHC and the search for the leptonic decays $ B…
We propose a twin Pati-Salam (PS) theory of flavour broken to the $G_{4321}$ gauge group at high energies, then to the Standard Model at low energies, yielding a TeV scale vector leptoquark $U^μ_1(3,1,2/3)$ which has been suggested to address the lepton universality anomalies $R_{K^{(*)}}$ and $R_{D^{(*)}}$ in $B$ decays. Quark and lepton masses are mediated by vector-like fermions, with personal Higgs doublets for the second and third families, which may be replaced by a two Higgs doublet model (2HDM). The twin PS theory of flavour successfully accounts for all quark and lepton (including neu…
At present, there are outstanding discrepancies between standard model predictions and measurements of the muon's $g-2$ and several $B$-meson properties. We resolve these anomalies by considering a two-Higgs-doublet model extended to include leptoquarks and a dark Higgs boson $S$. The leptoquarks modify $B$-meson decays and also induce an $S γγ$ coupling, which contributes to the muon's $g-2$ through a Barr-Zee diagram. We show that, for TeV-scale leptoquarks and dark Higgs boson masses $m_{S} \sim 10-200~\text{MeV}$, a consistent resolution to all of the anomalies exists. The model predicts i…
Leptoquarks have been suggested to solve a variety of discrepancies between the expected and observed phenomenon. In this paper, we show that the scalar doublet Leptoquark with Hypercharge 7/6 can simultaneously explain the recent measurement of $R_{K}$, $R_{K^*}$, the excess in anomalous magnetic moment of muon, and the observed excess in IceCube HESE data. For appropriate choice of couplings, the flavor anomalies are generated at one-loop level and IceCube data is explained via resonant production of the Leptoquark. Several constraints from LHC searches are imposed on the model parameter spa…
The contributions into radiative correction parameters S, T, U from the scalar leptoquarks are calculated in the minimal gauge model with the four-color quark-lepton symmetry. It is shown that the contributions into T and U from the scalar leptoquark doublets are not positive definite. Using the current experimental data on S, T, U the bounds on the scalar leptoquark masses are obtained. In particular, the existence of the relatively light scalar leptoquark with electric charge 2/3 is shown to be compatible with the current experimental data on S, T, U.
We make a comprehensive study of vector-like fermionic dark matter and flavor anomalies in a simple extension of standard model. The model is added with doublet vector-like fermions of quark and lepton types, and also a $S_1(\bar{\textbf{3}},\textbf{1},1/3)$ scalar leptoquark. An additional lepton type singlet fermion is included, whose admixture with vector-like lepton doublet plays the role of dark matter and is examined in relic density and direct detection perspective. Electroweak precision observables are computed to put constraint on model parameter space. We constrain the new couplings …
We study phenomenological implications of an axion that arises as a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson due to the spontaneous breaking of anomaly-free global flavor symmetry. One interesting possibility for such anomaly-free axion to explain dark matter (DM) is when it has a mass of order keV and an intermediate scale decay constant, since it can be explored through direct search experiments, X-ray observations, various stellar cooling processes, and the misalignment mechanism naturally explains the DM abundance. As a concrete renormalizable model of such axion, we consider an extended Higgs sector …
We propose a model in which the Yukawa couplings of Higgs doublets are related to the couplings of the chiral fermions to a scalar leptoquark triplet. This is due to their common origin via mixing with a vector-like family distinguished by a discrete $Z_5$ symmetry, under which only the three chiral families are neutral. The model predicts lepton non-universality in $B$ to $K$ decays, depending on the leptoquark mass, $V_{ts}$ and $m_μ/m_τ$. The model can only consistently explain the anomalies in $R_{K^{(*)}}$ for a leptoquark mass close to the collider lower bound of about $1~\text{TeV}$. Co…
We examine various scenarios that involve a light ${\cal O}(1 TeV)$ leptoquark state and select those which are compatible with the current experimental values for $\mathcal{B}(B_s\to μμ)$, $\mathcal{B}(B\to Kμμ)_{\mathrm{large}-q^2}$, $R_K=\mathcal{B^\prime}(B\to Kμμ)/\mathcal{B^\prime}(B\to Kee)$, and which lead to predictions consistent with other experimental data. We show that two such scenarios are phenomenologically plausible, namely the one with a doublet of scalar leptoquarks of hypercharge $1/6$, and the one with a triplet of vector leptoquarks of hypercharge $2/3$. We also argue tha…
The invisible variant axion model is very attractive as it is free from the domain wall problem. This model requires two Higgs doublets at the electroweak scale where one Higgs doublet carries a nonzero Peccei-Quinn (PQ) charge and the other is neutral under the PQ $\text U(1)$ symmetry. We consider the most interesting and less constrained scenario of the variant axion model, where only the right-handed top quark is charged under the PQ symmetry and couples with the PQ-charged Higgs doublet. As a result, the top quark can decay to the observed standard-model-like Higgs boson $h$ and the charm…
We study the Dine-Fischler-Srednicki (DFS) model in the light of the recent Higgs LHC results and electroweak precision data. The DFS model is a natural extension of the two-Higgs doublet model endowed with a Peccei-Quinn symmetry and leading to a physically acceptable axion. For generic couplings, the model reproduces the minimal Standard Model showing only tiny deviations (extreme decoupling scenario) whereas all additional degrees of freedom (with the exception of the axion) are very heavy. Recently, new corners of this model have been highlighted where it may exhibit enlarged global symmet…
The invisible variant axion model is very attractive as it is free from the domain wall problem. This model requires at least two Higgs doublets at the electroweak scale, with one Higgs doublet carrying a nonzero Peccei-Quinn (PQ) charge and the other being neutral under the PQ $\text U(1)$ symmetry. We consider a scenario where only the right-handed top quark is charged under the PQ symmetry and couples with the PQ-charged Higgs doublet. As a general prediction of this model, the top quark can decay to the observed standard model-like Higgs boson $h$ and the charm or up quark, $t\to h~ c/u$, …
We study the dominant non-universal contributions to muon decay for the five scalar leptoquarks (LQs) allowed by the Standard Model gauge symmetries. By using a common computational framework, we isolate the new-Physics (NP) one-loop corrections over the observable $Δr$ and explore the connection with the $W$ boson mass. We highlight the role of non-universal terms considering, for the $SU(2)$ doublet and triplet LQs, a completely degenerate scenario, thus cancelling/moderating the effects of the oblique parameters S,T and U . We determine simple formulas that exhibit the leading non-universal…
We classify all possible one-particle (scalar and fermion) extensions of the Standard Model that can contribute to the anomalous magnetic moment of leptons. We review the cases already discussed in the literature and complete the picture by performing the calculation for a fermionic doublet with hypercharge -3/2. We conclude that, out of the listed possibilities, only two scalar leptoquarks and the pseudoscalar of a peculiar two-Higgs-doublet model could be the responsibles for the muon anomalous magnetic moment discrepancy. Were this the case, this particles could be seen in the next LHC run.…
We propose a gauged two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM) featuring an anomalous Peccei-Quinn symmetry, $U(1)_{PQ}$. Dangerous tree-level flavour-changing neutral currents, common in 2HDMs, are forbidden by the extra gauge symmetry, $U(1)_X$. In our construction, the solutions to the important issues of neutrino masses, dark matter and the strong CP problem are interrelated. Neutrino masses are generated via a Dirac seesaw mechanism and are suppressed by the ratio of the $U(1)_X$ and the $U(1)_{PQ}$ breaking scales. Naturally small neutrino masses suggest that the breaking of $U(1)_X$ occurs at a rel…
To address five fundamental shortcomings of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics and cosmology, we propose a SMART U(1)$_X$ model which is a $U(1)_X \times U(1)_{PQ}$ extension of the SM. The $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry is a generalization of the well-known $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry and $U(1)_{PQ}$ is the global Peccie-Quinn (PQ) symmetry. Three right handed neutrinos are added to cancel $U(1)_X$ related anomalies, and they play a crucial role in understanding the observed neutrino oscillations and explaining the observed baryon asymmetry in the universe via leptogenesis. The PQ symmetry helps …
We propose a composite grand unified theory to study the anomalies in the semileptonic $B$ decays. We show a simple group containing the custodial and Standard Model gauge symmetries, that can deliver a set of composite pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons: the Higgs, a colorless SU(2)$_L$-fourplet and three leptoquarks: a triplet and two doublets. We give a description in terms of an effective theory of resonances. By assuming anarchic partial compositeness of the Standard Model fermions, we find representations for the composite fermions that allow to obtain the Higgs Yukawa couplings, as well as l…
The contributions into radiative correction parameters S, T, U from scalar leptoquark and scalar gluon doublets are investigated in the minimal four color symmetry model. It is shown that the existence of the relatively light scalar leptoquarks and scalar gluons (with masses of order of 1 TeV or less) is consistent with the current experimental data on S, T, U and the more light particles (with masses below 400 GeV) improve the fit. In particular, the lightest scalar leptoquarks with masses below 300 GeV are consistent with the current data on S, T, U at $χ^2 < 3.1(3.2)$ for $m_H=115(300) GeV$…
We study the phenomenology of two leptoquarks, the Standard Model $SU(2)$ singlets $S_1$ and $U_1$, with regard to the latest experimental data from the low-energy flavor physics measurements, LHC, and the IceCube neutrino experiment. We consider a scenario when scalar (vector) leptoquark $S_1$ ($U_1$) couples exclusively to the down quark and the neutrinos (charged leptons) of all flavors, where the leptoquark in question couples to the SM lepton doublets. The couplings of $S_1$ ($U_1$) to the up-type quarks and the charged leptons (neutrinos) are in turn uniquely determined via $SU(2)$ symme…
We investigate Majorana dark matter in a new variant of $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ gauge extension of Standard Model, where the scalar sector is enriched with an inert doublet and a $(\bar{3},1,1/3)$ scalar leptoquark. We compute the WIMP-nucleon cross section in leptoquark portal and the relic density mediated by inert doublet components, leptoquark and the new $Z^{\prime}$ boson. We constrain the parameter space consistent with Planck limit on relic density, PICO-60 and LUX bounds on spin-dependent direct detection cross section. Furthermore, we constrain the new couplings from the present experimenta…
Neutrino-nucleus coherent scattering measurements by the COHERENT collaboration provide us with a unique capability to test various beyond the standard model scenarios. In this work, we constrain scalar leptoquarks (LQs) using the COHERENT data. LQs arise in many extensions of the Standard Model (SM). Generally, the mass of the LQs is assumed to be very high to avoid the bounds from proton decay. However, there are low-scale LQ models which prohibit proton decay by construction. We consider two electroweak doublet scalar LQ models with hypercharge Y=1/6, and Y=7/6 and provide the bounds in the…
We discuss the possibility of having a non-minimal scalar sector at the weak scale within the framework of invisible axion models. To frame our discussion we consider an extension of the Dine-Fischler-Srednicki-Zhitnitsky invisible axion model with two additional Higgs doublets blind under the Peccei-Quinn symmetry. Due to mixing effects among the scalar fields, it is possible to obtain a rich scalar sector at the weak scale in certain decoupling limits of the theory. In particular, this framework provides an ultraviolet completion of the so-called aligned two-Higgs-doublet model and solves th…
A new model of radiative neutrino masses generated via two-loop diagrams is proposed involving a charge 2/3 vector-like quark and a doublet of leptoquark scalars. This model predicts one of the neutrinos to be massless and admits both the normal and inverted neutrino mass hierarchies with correlated predictions for l_i \rightarrow l_j + γbranching ratios. New contributions to CP violation in B_s-\bar{B}_s mixing arise in the model through leptoquark box diagrams, which can explain the anomalous dimuon events reported by the DO collaboration. These leptoquarks, with masses below 500 GeV, also p…
We point out that cosmological constraint from the axion isocurvature perturbation is relaxed if the Higgs field obtains a large field value during inflation in the DFSZ axion model. This scenario is consistent with the Higgs inflation model, in which two Higgs doublets have non-minimal couplings and play a role of inflaton.
It is proposed that $S$-duality is a fundamental symmetry of nature which is spontaneously broken. Axion and dilaton are identified with the doublet of the $S$-duality symmetry group $SL(2,\mathbbm{R})$. The symmetry is broken at a high scale corresponding to the experimentally estimated axion decay constant $f_χ$. The symmetry breaking mechanism is discussed in analogy with PCAC in pion physics. $S$-duality invariant interactions of fermions with axion and dilaton doublet are introduced. The symmetry breaking mechanism contributes negligibly small corrections to fermion masses in the QCD sect…
Experimental data have provided intriguing hints for the violation of lepton flavour universality (LFU), including $B\to D^{(*)}τν/B\to D^{(*)}\ellν$, the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon and $b\!\to\! s\ell^+\ell^-$ with a significance of $\!>3\,σ$, $>\!4\,σ$ and $>\!5\,σ$, respectively. Furthermore, in a recent re-analysis of 2018 Belle data, it was found that the forward-backward asymmetry ($ΔA_{\rm FB}$) of $B \to D^{*}μ\bar ν$ vs $B\to D^{*}e\bar ν$ disagrees with the SM prediction by $\approx\!\!4\,σ$, providing an additional sign of LFU violation. We show that a tensor operator is …
A particular class of variant axion models with two higgs doublets and a singlet is studied. In these models the axion couples either to the $u$-quark or $t$-quark or both, but not to $b$, $c$, $s$, or $d$. When the axion couples to only one quark the models possess the desirable feature of having no domain wall problem, which makes them viable candidates for a cosmological axion string scenario. We calculate the axion couplings to leptons, photons and nucleons, and the astrophysical constraints on the axion decay constant $v_a$ are investigated and compared to the DFSZ axion model. We find th…
We show that the hierarchically small mu term in supersymmetric theories is a consequence of two identical pairs of Higgs doublets taking a democratic form for their mass matrix. We briefly discuss the discrete symmetry S2xS2 toward the democratic mass matrix. Then, we show that there results an approximate Peccei-Quinn symmetry and hence the value mu is related to the axion decay constant.
The strongest upper bounds on the axion mass come from astrophysical observations like the neutrino burst duration of SN1987A, which depends on the axion couplings to nucleons, or the white-dwarf cooling rates and red-giant evolution, which involve the axion-electron coupling. It has been recently argued that in variants of DFSZ models with generation-dependent Peccei-Quinn charges an approximate axion-nucleon decoupling can occur, strongly relaxing the SN1987A bound. However, as in standard DFSZ models, the axion remains in general coupled to electrons, unless an ad hoc cancellation is engine…
Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) and axions are arguably the most compelling dark matter candidates in the literature. Could they coexist as dark matter particles? More importantly, can they be incorporated in a well motivated framework in agreement with experimental data? In this work, we show that this two component dark matter can be realized in the Inert Doublet Model in an elegant and natural manner by virtue of the spontaneous breaking of a Peccei-Quinn $U(1)_{PQ}$ symmetry into a residual $Z_2$ symmetry. The WIMP stability is guaranteed by the $Z_{2}$ symmetry and a new dark…
We propose an efficient mechanism to realize an invisible axion from a low scale Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking. Our basic model only contains a gauge boson, an up-type vector-like quark, two Higgs doublets and two Higgs singlets besides the standard model fermions and gauge bosons. The physical Peccei-Quinn global symmetry is a result of two independent global symmetries connected by the new gauge symmetry. Anyone of these two global symmetries only acts on either the right-handed top quark or the left-handed new quark so that it can avoid the domain wall problem. Thanks to the electroweak an…
A light boson $U$ from an extra $U(1)$ interpolates between a generalized dark photon coupled to $Q,\ B$ and $L_i$ (or $B-L$), plus possibly dark matter, a dark $Z$ coupled to the $Z$ current, and one axially coupled to quarks and leptons. We identify the corresponding $U(1)_F$ symmetries, with $F= γ_Y Y+γ_B B+γ_{L_i}L_i+γ_A F_A+γ_{F'}F'\!+γ_d F_d$, $F_d$ acting in a dark sector and $F'$ on possible semi-inert BEH doublets uncoupled to quarks and leptons. The $U$ current is obtained from the $U(1)_F $ and $Z$ currents, with a mixing determined by the spin-0 BEH fields. The charge $Q_U$ of chir…
We study the potential of the measurement of the transverse muon polarization P_T in the K->mu nu gamma decay with the sensitivity of δP_T ~ 10^{-4}. It is shown that the forthcoming experiment can measure the contribution of the electromagnetic final state interactions to P_T that gives a possibility to unambiguously determine the signs of the sum of the kaon form factors F_V and F_A even without fixing their difference. We also estimate the sensitivity of this experiment to the new physics, which could give rise to T-violation: multi-Higgs doublet models, supersymmetric extensions of the Sta…
The complex field $Φ$ containing the QCD axion has a natural portal coupling to the Higgs doublet of the form $λ_{h ϕ}|Φ|^2 |H|^2$. Here we consider the possibility that $λ_{h ϕ}$ has a natural magnitude for a dimensionless coupling, $λ_{h ϕ} \sim 0.1-1$. This is possible if the total mass squared parameter of the Higgs in the vacuum, including quadratic divergent and the $Φ$ vacuum expectation value contributions, is renormalized to reproduce the observed Higgs boson mass. It is then possible for the axion sector to stabilize the electroweak vacuum. We show the requirement of electroweak vacu…
