The Quantum Fisher Information matrix (QFIM) is a central metric in promising algorithms, such as Quantum Natural Gradient Descent and Variational Quantum Imaginary Time Evolution. Computing the full QFIM for a model with $d$ parameters, however, is computationally expensive and generally requires $\mathcal{O}(d^2)$ function evaluations. To remedy these increasing costs in high-dimensional parameter spaces, we propose using simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation techniques to approximate the QFIM at a constant cost. We present the resulting algorithm and successfully apply it to prepare Hamiltonian ground states and train Variational Quantum Boltzmann Machines.
Estimating multiparamter simultaneously as precise as possible is an important goal of quantum metrolo- gy. As a first step to this end, here we give a condition determining whether two arbitrary parameters can be estimated simultaneously for a qubit in the mixed state. An application of this condition is shown.
In the adiabatic perturbation theory, Berry curvature is related to the generalized force, and the quantum metric tensor is linked with energy fluctuation. While the former is tested with numerous numerical results and experimental realizations, the latter is less considered. Quantum Fisher information, key to quantum precision measurement, is four times quantum metric tensor. It is difficult to relate the quantum Fisher information with some physical observable. One interesting candidate is square of the symmetric logarithmic derivative, which is usually tough to obtain both theoretically and…
Universal quantum Fisher information and simultaneous occurrence of Landau-class and topological-class transitions in non-Hermitian Jaynes-Cummings models
In quantum information theory, Fisher Information is a natural metric on the space of perturbations to a density matrix, defined by calculating the relative entropy with the unperturbed state at quadratic order in perturbations. In gravitational physics, Canonical Energy defines a natural metric on the space of perturbations to spacetimes with a Killing horizon. In this paper, we show that the Fisher information metric for perturbations to the vacuum density matrix of a ball-shaped region B in a holographic CFT is dual to the canonical energy metric for perturbations to a corresponding Rindler…
The quantum Fisher information matrix provides us with a tool to determine the precision, in any multiparametric estimation protocol, through quantum Cramér-Rao bound. In this work, we study simultaneous and individual estimation strategies using the density matrix vectorization method. Two special Heisenberg $XY$ models are considered. The first one concerns the anisotropic $XY$ model in which the temperature $T$ and the anisotropic parameter $γ$ are estimated. The second situation concerns the isotropic $XY$ model submitted to an external magnetic field $B$ in which the temperature and the m…
The minimum error of unbiased parameter estimation is quantified by the quantum Fisher information in accordance to the Cramér-Rao bound. We indicate that only superposed NOON states by simultaneous measurements can achieve the maximum quantum Fisher information with form $<\hat{N}^{2}>$ for a given photon number distribution by a POVM in linear two-path interferometer phase measurement. We present a series of specified superposed states with infinite quantum Fisher information but with finite average photon numbers. The advantage of this unbounded quantum Fisher information will be beneficial…
A quantum measurement is Fisher symmetric if it provides uniform and maximal information on all parameters that characterize the quantum state of interest. Using (complex projective) 2-designs, we construct measurements on a pair of identically prepared quantum states that are Fisher symmetric for all pure states. Such measurements are optimal in achieving the minimal statistical error without adaptive measurements. We then determine all collective measurements on a pair that are Fisher symmetric for the completely mixed state and for all pure states simultaneously. For a qubit, these measurem…
We study the energy level crossing behavior in two-dimensional quantum well with the Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit couplings (SOCs). By mapping the SOC Hamiltonian onto an anisotropic Rabi model, we obtain the approximate ground state and its quantum Fisher information (QFI) via performing a unitary transformation. We find that the energy level crossing can occur in the quantum well system within the available parameters rather than in cavity and circuit quantum eletrodynamics systems. Futhermore, the influence of two kinds of SOCs on the QFI is investigated and an intuitive explanation fr…

The efficient sensing of weak environmental perturbations via special degeneracies called exceptional points in non-Hermitian systems has gained enormous traction in the last few decades. However, in contrast to the extensive literature on parity-time (PT) symmetric systems, the exotic hallmarks of anti-PT symmetric systems are only beginning to be realized now. Very recently, a characteristic resonance of vanishing linewidth in anti-PT symmetric systems was shown to exhibit tremendous sensitivity to intrinsic nonlinearities. Given the primacy of sensing in non-Hermitian systems, in general, a…
Simultaneous estimation of multiple parameters is required in many practical applications. A lower bound on the variance of simultaneous estimation is given by the quantum Fisher information matrix. This lower bound is, however, not necessarily achievable. There exists a necessary and sufficient condition for its achievability. It is unknown how many parameters can be estimated while satisfying this condition. In this paper, we analyse an upper bound on the number of such parameters through linear-algebraic techniques. This upper bound depends on the algebraic structure of the quantum system u…
This review aims at gathering the most relevant quantum multi-parameter estimation methods that go beyond the direct use of the Quantum Fisher Information concept. We discuss in detail the Holevo Cramér-Rao bound, the Quantum Local Asymptotic Normality approach as well as Bayesian methods. Even though the fundamental concepts in the field have been laid out more than forty years ago, a number of important results have appeared much more recently. Moreover, the field drew increased attention recently thanks to advances in practical quantum metrology proposals and implementations that often invo…
We investigate the simultaneous estimation of the intensity and the orientation of a magnetic field by the multi-parameter quantum Fisher information matrix. A general expression is achieved for the simultaneous estimation precision of the intensity and the orientation, which is better than the independent estimation precision for the given number of spin states. Moreover, we consider an imperfect measurement device, coarsened measurement reference. For the case of the measurement reference rotating around the $y-$axis randomly, the simultaneous estimation always performs better than the indep…
With the rapid development of quantum technologies in recent years, the need for high sensitivity measuring techniques has become a key issue. In particular, optical sensors based on quantum states of light have proven to be optimal resources for high precision interferometry. Nevertheless, their performance may be severely affected by the presence of noise or imperfections. In this work we derive the quantum Fisher information matrix associated to the simultaneous estimation of an interferometric phase and the indistinguishability characterizing the probe state consisting of an even number of…

The unavoidable interaction between a quantum system and the external noisy environment can be mimicked by a sequence of stochastic measurements whose outcomes are neglected. Here we investigate how this stochasticity is reflected in the survival probability to find the system in a given Hilbert subspace at the end of the dynamical evolution. In particular, we analytically study the distinguishability of two different stochastic measurement sequences in terms of a new Fisher information measure depending on the variation of a function, instead of a finite set of parameters. We find a novel cha…

A quantum theory of multiphase estimation is crucial for quantum-enhanced sensing and imaging and may link quantum metrology to more complex quantum computation and communication protocols. In this letter we tackle one of the key difficulties of multiphase estimation: obtaining a measurement which saturates the fundamental sensitivity bounds. We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for projective measurements acting on pure states to saturate the maximal theoretical bound on precision given by the quantum Fisher information matrix. We apply our theory to the specific example of interfero…
We address the properties of continuous-time quantum walks with Hamiltonians of the form $\mathcal{H}= L + λL^2$, being $L$ the Laplacian matrix of the underlying graph and being the perturbation $λL^2$ motivated by its potential use to introduce next-nearest-neighbor hopping. We consider cycle, complete, and star graphs because paradigmatic models with low/high connectivity and/or symmetry. First, we investigate the dynamics of an initially localized walker. Then, we devote attention to estimating the perturbation parameter $λ$ using only a snapshot of the walker dynamics. Our analysis shows …
We investigate simultaneous estimation of multi-parameter quantum estimation with time-dependent Hamiltonians. We analytically obtain the maximal quantum Fisher information matrix for two-parameter in time-dependent three-level systems. The optimal coherent control scheme is proposed to increase the estimation precisions. In a example of a spin-1 particle in a uniformly rotating magnetic field, the optimal coherent Hamiltonians for different parameters can be chosen to be completely same. However, in general, the optimal coherent Hamiltonians for different parameters are incompatibility. In th…
The aim of this thesis is to develop a theoretical framework to study parameter estimation of quantum channels. We study the task of estimating unknown parameters encoded in a channel in the sequential setting. A sequential strategy is the most general way to use a channel multiple times. Our goal is to establish lower bounds (called Cramer-Rao bounds) on the estimation error. The bounds we develop are universally applicable; i.e., they apply to all permissible quantum dynamics. We consider the use of catalysts to enhance the power of a channel estimation strategy. This is termed amortization.…
We highlight the advantages of using simultaneously the Shannon and Fisher information measures in providing a useful form of the uncertainty relation for the position-momentum case. It does not require any Fourier transformation. The sensitivity is also noteworthy.
How precisely can we estimate cosmological parameters by performing a quantum measurement on a cosmological quantum state? In quantum estimation theory the variance of an unbiased parameter estimator is bounded from below by the inverse of measurement-dependent Fisher information and ultimately by quantum Fisher information, which is the maximization of the former over all positive operator valued measurements. Such bound is known as the quantum Cramer-Rao bound. We consider the evolution of a massless scalar field with Bunch-Davies vacuum in a spatially flat FLRW spacetime, which results in a…
