Elastic cross sections are calculated and compared with the data on $π^{\pm}$ scattering on $^{28}$Si, $^{40}$Ca, $^{58}$Ni, $^{208}$Pb nuclei in the energy range from 130 to 290 MeV. To this end, both the folding optical potential (OP) and the local modified Kisslinger-type OP were calculated, and then the $πA$ cross sections were obtained by solving the Klein-Gordon equation to account for the relativization and distortion wave effects. In the folding OPs, the parameters of the elementary $πN$ amplitude were fitted when describing the $πA$ scattering data, and thus the essential in-medium effect on the parameters of the $πN$ amplitude was established since the pion is scattered not on a free but on a bound nuclear nucleon. Fairly good agreement with experimental data was obtained for both models of optical potentials and their forms turn out to be in coincidence in the region of their surfaces.
The microscopic eikonal phase shifts with its first and second corrections for pi nucleus collision are calculated by using the expression previously derived for the local Kisslinger potential. A physical description to different forms of targets density distributions, are implemented. The roles of the Ericson Ericson Lorentz Lorentz EELL parameter and the adjustable scattering amplitude parameters are discussed. The calculated differential cross sections include the second order corrections of eikonal phase shift. The need for modifying the effective interaction to account for higher order corr…
Based on the spectator expansion of the multiple scattering series we employ a nonlocal translationally invariant nuclear density derived from a chiral next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) and the very same interaction for consistent full-folding calculations of the effective (optical) potential for nucleon-nucleus scattering for light nuclei.
Realistic density dependent CDM3Yn versions of the M3Y interaction have been used in an extended Hartree-Fock (HF) calculation of nuclear matter (NM), with the nucleon single-particle potential determined from the total NM energy based on the Hugenholtz-van Hove theorem that gives rise naturally to a rearrangement term (RT). Using the RT of the single-nucleon potential obtained exactly at different NM densities, the density- and energy dependence of the CDM3Yn interactions was modified to account properly for both the RT and observed energy dependence of the nucleon optical potential. Based on…
$α$-decay properties of the yet unknown nucleus $^{296}$118 are predicted using the systematic behavior of parameters of $α$-nucleus double-folding potentials. The results are $Q_α= 11.655 \pm 0.095$ MeV and $T_{1/2} = 0.825$ ms with an uncertainty of about a factor of 4.
Calculating microscopic optical potentials for elastic nucleon-nucleus scattering has already led to large body of work in the past. For folding first-order calculations the nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction and the one-body density of the nucleus were taken as input to rigorous calculations in a spectator expansion of the multiple scattering series. Based on the Watson expansion of the multiple scattering series we employ a nonlocal translationally invariant nuclear density derived from a chiral next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) and the very same interaction for consistent full-folding calc…
No-recoil approximation to knock-on exchange potential in the double folding model for heavy-ion collisions
We investigate the effects of chiral NNLO three-nucleon force (3NF) on nucleus-nucleus elastic scattering, using a standard prescription based on the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock method and the g-matrix folding model. The g-matrix calculated in nuclear matter from the chiral N3LO two-nucleon forces (2NF) is close to that from the Bonn-B 2NF. Because the Melbourne group have already developed a practical g-matrix interaction by localizing the nonlocal g-matrix calculated from the Bonn-B 2NF, we consider the effects of chiral 3NF, in this first attempt to study the 3NF effects, by modifying the local …
We present a determination of optical potentials for $^4$He-target collisions using the double-folding method. We use chiral effective field theory nucleon-nucleon interactions at next-to-next-to-leading order combined with state-of-the-art nucleonic densities. The imaginary part of the optical potential is obtained from the real double-folding interaction either through a proportionality constant or applying Kramers-Kronig dispersion relations. With these potentials, we compute the elastic scattering of $^4$He off various targets, from $^4$He to $^{120}$Sn. We study the sensitivity of our pre…
We investigate the effects of chiral three-nucleon force (3NF) on proton scattering at 65 MeV and $^{4}$He scattering at 72 MeV/nucleon from heavier targets, using the standard microscopic framework composed of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (BHF) method and the $g$-matrix folding model. For nuclear matter, the $g$ matrix is evaluated from chiral two-nucleon force (2NF) of N$^{3}$LO and chiral 3NF of NNLO by using the BHF method. Since the $g$ matrix thus obtained is numerical and nonlocal, an optimum local form is determined from the on-shell and near-on-shell components of $g$ matrix that are im…
Differential cross sections of ($p,n$) and ($^3$He,$t$) charge-exchange reactions leading to the excitation of the isobaric analog state (IAS) of the target nucleus are calculated with the distorted wave Born approximation. The $G$-matrix double-folding method is employed to determine the nucleus-nucleus optical potential within the framework of the Lane model. $G$-matrices are obtained from a Brueckner-Hartree-Fock calculation using the Argonne Av18 nucleon-nucleon potential. Target densities have been taken from Skyrme-Hartree-Fock calculations which predict values for the neutron skin thick…
We investigate the roles of chiral three-nucleon force (3NF) in nucleon-nucleus elastic scattering, using the standard framework based on the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock method for nuclear matter and the $g$-matrix folding model for the nucleon-nucleus scattering. In nuclear matter, chiral 3NF at NNLO level (mainly the 2$π$-exchange diagram) makes the single particle potential less attractive for the singlet-even channel and more absorptive for the triplet channels. The single-particle potential calculated from chiral two-nucleon force (2NF) at N$^{3}$LO level is found to be close to that from Bonn…
Existing data on near-barrier fusion excitation functions of medium and heavy nucleus-nucleus systems have been analyzed using a simple diffused barrier formula derived assuming the Gaussian shape of the barrier height distributions. Fusion cross section is obtained by folding the Gaussian barrier distribution with the classical expression for the fusion cross section for a fixed barrier. The energy dependence of the fusion cross section, thus obtained, provides good description to the existing data on near-barrier fusion and capture excitation functions for medium and heavy nucleus-nucleus sy…
The determination of nucleus-nucleus potentials is important not only to describe the properties of the colliding system, but also to extract nuclear-structure information and for modelling nuclear reactions for astrophysics. We present the first determination of double-folding potentials based on chiral effective field theory at leading, next-to-leading, and next-to-next-to-leading order. To this end, we construct new soft local chiral effective field theory interactions. We benchmark this approach in the $^{16}$O-$^{16}$O system, and present results for cross sections computed for elastic sc…
We present a reliable double-folding (DF) model for $^{4}$He-nucleus scattering, using the Melbourne $g$-matrix nucleon-nucleon interaction that explains nucleon-nucleus scattering with no adjustable parameter. In the DF model, only the target density is taken as the local density in the Melbourne $g$-matrix. For $^{4}$He elastic scattering from $^{58}$Ni and $^{208}$Pb targets in a wide range of incident energies from 20~MeV/nucleon to 200~MeV/nucleon, the DF model with the target-density approximation (TDA) yields much better agreement with the experimental data than the usual DF model with …
In the framework of the double folding model, we used the α+2n and di-triton configurations for the nuclear matter density of the 6He nucleus to generate the real part of the optical potential for the system 6He+12C. As an alternative, we also use the high energy approximation to generate the optical potential for the same system. The derived potentials are employed to analyze the elastic scattering differential cross section at energies of 38.3, 41.6 and 82.3 MeV/nucleon. For the imaginary part of the potential we adopt the squared Woods-Saxon form. The obtained results are compared with the …
Microscopic optical potentials have been successful in describing nucleon-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus scattering. Some essential ingredients of the framework, however, have not been examined in detail. Applicability of the microscopic folding model is systematically investigated. Effect of an antisymmetrization factor (ASF) appearing in multiple scattering theory, theoretical uncertainty regarding the local density approximation (LDA), and the validity of a prescription for nonlocality, the Brieva-Rook (BR) localization, of the microscopic potential, are quantitatively estimated for nucleon-nu…
The folding model analysis of the elastic $α+ α$ scattering at the incident energies below the reaction threshold of 34.7 MeV (in the lab system) has been done using the well-tested density dependent versions of the M3Y interaction and realistic choices for the $^4$He density. Because the absorption is negligible at the energies below the reaction threshold, we were able to probe the $α+ α$ optical potential at low energies quite unambiguously and found that the $α+ α$ overlap density used to construct the density dependence of the M3Y interaction is strongly distorted by the Pauli blocking. T…
$α$-cluster structures above double shell closures are among the cornerstones for nuclear $α$-cluster physics. Semi-microscopic cluster models (SMCMs) are important theoretical models to study their properties. A crucial ingredient of SMCM is the effective potential between the alpha cluster and the doubly magic nucleus. We derive new double-folding potentials between $α$ clusters and doubly magic nuclei from soft local chiral nucleon-nucleon potentials given by chiral effective field theory ($χ$EFT) at the next-to-next-to-leading order. The $α$-cluster structures in ${}^{8}\text{Be}$, ${}^{20…
One-neutron halo nuclei, composed by a weakly-bound particle coupled to a core nucleus, are studied within a particle-plus-core model. A semi-microscopic method to generate the two-body Hamiltonian of such a system, including core excitation, is proposed. The method consists in generating the spin-independent part of the valence-core interaction using a single-folding procedure, convoluting a realistic nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction with the core transition densities. The latter are calculated with the Antisymetrized Molecular Dynamics (AMD) method. The prescription is applied to the well kn…
We present a new global optical potential (GOP) for nucleus-nucleus systems, including neutron-rich and proton-rich isotopes, in the energy range of $50 \sim 400$ MeV/u. The GOP is derived from the microscopic folding model with the complex $G$-matrix interaction CEG07 and the global density presented by S{\~ a}o Paulo group. The folding model well accounts for realistic complex optical potentials of nucleus-nucleus systems and reproduces the existing elastic scattering data for stable heavy-ion projectiles at incident energies above 50 MeV/u. We then calculate the folding-model potentials (FM…
The calculations of the alpha decay half-lives of some Polonium isotopes in the mass range 186 - 218 have been carried out using the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) semiclassical approximation. The alpha-nucleus effective potential used contains the Coulomb potential, centrifugal potential, and the nuclear potential. The nuclear potential is obtained via the double folding model, with the microscopic NN effective interactions derived from relativistic mean field theory Lagrangian (termed R3Y). Different parametrizations of the R3Y interactions have been employed in the computation of the nucle…
We investigate the sensitivity of the medium effect in the high-density region on the nucleus-nucleus elastic scattering in the framework of the double-folding (DF) model with the complex $G$-matrix interaction. The medium effect including three-body-force (TBF) effect is investigated with two methods. In the both methods, the medium effect is clearly seen on the potential and the elastic cross section. Finally, we make clear the crucial role of the TBF effect up to $k_F =$ 1.6 fm$^{-1}$ in the nucleus-nucleus elastic scattering.
The yrast band in the heavy $N = Z$ nucleus $^{88}$Ru is studied in the framework of the $α$-cluster model in combination with double-folding potentials. It is found that the excitation energies of the yrast band in $^{88}$Ru can be nicely described within the $α$-cluster approach using a smooth and mildly $L$-dependent adjustment of the potential strength. This result is similar to well-established $α$-cluster states in nuclei with a (magic core $\otimes$ $α$) structure. Contrary, the yrast bands in neighboring $N \ne Z$ nuclei deviate from such a typical $α$-cluster behavior. Finally, the $α…
The optical potential is a powerful instrument for calculations on a wide variety of nuclear reactions, in particular, for quasi-elastic lepton-nucleus scattering. Phenomenological optical potentials are successful in the description of data but may produce uncertainties in the interpretation of the results. Two recent theoretical optical potentials are presented: a global relativistic folding optical potential, that has been employed in relativistic models for quasi-elastic lepton-nucleus scattering, and a non relativistic optical potential derived from nucleon-nucleon chiral potentials at fo…
Proton and neutron densities from Skyrme-Hartree-Fock (SHF) calculations are used to generate non-local (g-folding) proton-nucleus optical potentials. They are formed by folding the densities with realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions. The potentials are then used to calculate differential cross sections and spin observables for proton scattering. Good agreement with data has been found, supporting those found previously when using SHF charge densities in analyses of electron scattering data. That agreement was improved by use of (shell model) occupation numbers to constrain the HF iterations…
The observed cross sections of quasi-elastic scattering of 6He, 7Be, and 8B nuclei by 12C nuclei are described within the framework of the diffraction nuclear model and the model of nucleus-nucleus scattering in the high-energy approximation with a double folding potential, for intermediate energies of the incident particles. The calculations make use of realistic distributions of nucleon densities and take account of the Coulomb interaction and inelastic scattering with excitation of low-lying collective states of the target.
Vector analyzing power for the proton-6He elastic scattering at 71 MeV/nucleon has been measured for the first time, with a newly developed polarized proton solid target working at low magnetic field of 0.09 T. The results are found to be incompatible with a t-matrix folding model prediction. Comparisons of the data with g-matrix folding analyses clearly show that the vector analyzing power is sensitive to the nuclear structure model used in the reaction analysis. The alpha-core distribution in 6He is suggested to be a possible key to understand the nuclear structure sensitivity.
We have constructed an empirical formulae for the fusion and interaction barriers using experimental values available till date. The fusion barriers so obtained have been compared with different model predictions based on the proximity, Woods-Saxon and double folding potentials along with several empirical formulas, time dependent Hartree-Fock theories, and the experimental results. The comparison allows us to find the best model, which is nothing but the present empirical formula only. Most remarkably, the fusion barrier and radius show excellent consonance with the experimental findings for …
