We study the observational predictions of the phenomenological anti-de Sitter (AdS)/QCD inspired model, in which the inflaton field emerges in a four-dimensional strongly coupled gauge theory, in which the chiral symmetry breaking occurs through the formation of the quark condensate. Based on a top-down approach of AdS/QCD, using a D7-brane in the background of $N_c$ D3-branes, it has already been shown that chiral symmetry breaking in a magnetic field through the generation of the Higgs vacuum expectation value could be a second-order phase transition, although it was doubted that this scenario could lead to enough inflation. Using an iterative method, we consistently solve for the time-dependent parameters, including the embedding function of the D7-brane and the Hubble parameter of the expanding background. We show that with $N_c\sim 10^7$ and $g_{\rm{}_{UV}}\sim {\rm few}\times 0.1$, the predictions of the inflationary model are consistent with the most stringent constraints placed on the inflationary models by Planck 2018. Although the model is capable of producing a large amount of gravitational waves, $r\simeq 0.01$, the displacement of the canonical mass dimension-1 scalar field remains below the Planck mass, in violation of the Lyth bound.
Meson spectroscopy at finite gauge coupling - whereat any perturbative QCD computation would break down - and finite number of colors, from a top-down holographic string model, has thus far been entirely missing in the literature. This paper fills in this gap. Using the delocalized type IIA SYZ mirror (with $SU(3)$ structure) of the holographic type IIB dual of large-$N$ thermal QCD of arXiv:hep-th/0902.1540 as constructed in arXiv:hep-th/1306.4339 at finite coupling and number of colors ($N_c$ = Number of $D5(\overline{D5}$)-branes wrapping a vanishing two-cycle in the top-down holographic co…
We apply the holographic principle at the early universe, obtaining an inflation realization of holographic origin. Such a consideration has equal footing with its well-studied late-time application, and moreover the decrease of the horizons at early times naturally increases holographic energy density at inflationary scales. Taking as Infrared cutoff the particle or future event horizons, and adding a simple correction due to the Ultraviolet cutoff, whose role is non-negligible at the high energy scales of inflation, we result in a holographic inflation scenario that is very efficient in inco…
We review the holographic approach to electromagnetic phenomena in large N QCD. After a brief discussion of existing holographic models, we concentrate on the improved holographic QCD model extended to include magnetically induced phenomena. We explore the influence of magnetic fields on the QCD ground state, focusing on (inverse) magnetic catalysis of chiral condensate, investigate the phase diagram of the theory as a function of magnetic field, temperature and quark chemical potential, and, finally discuss effects of magnetic fields on the quark-anti-quark potential, shear viscosity, speed o…
We study the twisted index of 4d $\mathcal{N}$ = 2 class S theories on a closed hyperbolic 3-manifold $M_3$. Via 6d picture, the index can be written in terms of topological invariants called analytic torsions twisted by irreducible flat connections on the 3-manifold. Using the topological expression, we determine the full perturbative 1/N expansion of the twisted index. The leading part nicely matches the Bekestein-Hawking entropy of a magnetically charged black hole in the holographic dual $AdS_5$ with $AdS_2\times M_3$ near-horizon.
We consider different supersymmetric mixed boundary conditions for scalar and fermionic fields in $AdS_2$, searching for the dual description of a family of interpolating Wilson Loops in ABJM theory. The family, which interpolates between the bosonic 1/6 BPS loop and the 1/2 BPS loop, can be thought of as an exact marginal deformation in a defect CFT$_1$. Confronting this property against holographic correlators and vacuum energy corrections singles out a particular boundary condition which we propose as dual to the interpolating family of Wilson loops.
We study the large $N$ limit of the refined topologically twisted index of three-dimensional $\mathcal{N} = 2$ gauge theories with a holographic dual, which is relevant for counting the number of microstates of rotating, magnetically charged and twisted AdS$_4$ black holes. As a difference with previous computations, we perform a direct saddle point analysis of the relevant matrix model. Among other things we explicitly identify the distribution of gauge magnetic fluxes that contributes at large $N$. The index exhibits a large $N$ factorized form in agreement with the supergravity expectations…
We study the effects of driving a magnetically charged black brane solution of Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory by a time dependent electric field. From a holographic perspective, we find that placing a sample in a background magnetic field and driving the system via a parallel electric field generates a charge current which may oscillate for long periods and (or) may exhibit non-Ohmic behavior. We discuss how these two effects manifest themselves in various types of quenches and in periodic driving of the sample.
There has recently been a strong revival of interest in quasi-extremal magnetically charged black holes. In the asymptotically flat case, it is possible to choose the magnetic charge of such an object in such a manner that the black hole is surrounded by a corona in which electroweak symmetry is restored on macroscopic scales, a result of very considerable interest. We argue that holographic duality indicates that the asymptotically AdS analogues of these black holes have several interesting properties: the dual theory is only physical if the black hole is required to rotate; in the rotating c…
Within gauge/gravity duality, we study the class of four dimensional CFTs with chiral anomaly described by Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory in five dimensions. In particular we determine the phase diagram at finite temperature, chemical potential and magnetic field. At high temperatures the solution is given by an electrically and magnetically charged AdS Reissner-Nordstroem black brane. For sufficiently large Chern-Simons coupling and at sufficiently low temperatures and small magnetic fields, we find a new phase with helical order, breaking translational invariance spontaneously. For the…
