In this work we discuss a new type of factorisation systems for \textbf{Ord}-enriched categories. We start by defining the new notion of lax weak orthogonality, which involves the existence of lax diagonal morphisms for lax squares. Using the usual theory of factorisation systems as a blueprint, we introduce a lax version of weak and functorial factorisation systems. We provide a characterisation of lax functorial weak factorisation systems, namely lax weak factorisation systems such that their factorisations are lax functorial. Then, we present a particular case of such lax functorial weak factorisation systems which are equipped with additional lax monad structures. We finally explore some examples of these factorisation systems for categories of partial maps equipped with natural Ord-enrichments. We will first construct a particular lax algebraic weak factorisation system for categories of partial maps that isolates the total datum and the partial domain of a partial map. Then we will discuss the relation between factorisation systems on the base category and oplax factorisation systems on the induced category of partial maps.
We give an account of lax orthogonal factorisation systems on order-enriched categories. Among them, we define and characterise the KZ-reflective ones, in a way that mirrors the characterisation of reflective orthogonal factorisation systems. We use simple monads to construct lax orthogonal factorisation systems, such as one on the category of T_0 topological spaces closely related to continuous lattices.
This paper introduces a skew variant of the notion of enriched category, suitable for enrichment over a skew-monoidal category, the main novelty of which is that the elements of the enriched hom-objects need not be in bijection with the morphisms of the underlying category. This is the natural setting in which to introduce the notion of locally weak comonad, which is fundamental to the theory of enriched algebraic weak factorisation systems. The equivalence, for a monoidal closed category $\mathcal{V}$, between tensored $\mathcal{V}$-categories and hommed $\mathcal{V}$-actegories is extended t…
Orbits of automorphism groups of partially ordered sets are not necessarily congruence classes, i.e. images of an order homomorphism. Based on so-called orbit categories a framework of factorisations and unfoldings is developed that preserves the antisymmetry of the order Relation. Finally some suggestions are given, how the orbit categories can be represented by simple directed and annotated graphs and annotated binary relations. These relations are reflexive, and, in many cases, they can be chosen to be antisymmetric. From these constructions arise different suggestions for fundamental syste…
In this article we extend the theory of lax monoidal structures, also known as multitensors, and the monads on categories of enriched graphs that they give rise to. Our first principal result -- the lifting theorem for multitensors -- enables us to see the Gray tensor product of 2-categories and the Crans tensor product of Gray categories as part of this framework. We define weak n-categories with strict units by means of a notion of reduced higher operad, using the theory of algebraic weak factorisation systems. Our second principal result is to establish a lax tensor product on the category …
Applying (enriched) categorical structures we define the notion of ordered sheaf on a quantaloid Q, which we call `Q-order'. This requires a theory of semicategories enriched in the quantaloid Q, that admit a suitable Cauchy completion. There is a quantaloid Idl(Q) of Q-orders and ideal relations, and a locally ordered category Ord(Q) of Q-orders and monotone maps; actually, Ord(Q)=Map(Idl(Q)). In particular is Ord(Omega), with Omega a locale, the category of ordered objects in the topos of sheaves on Omega. In general Q-orders can equivalently be described as Cauchy complete categories enrich…
Our main focus concerns a possible lax version of the algebraic property of protomodularity for Ord-enriched categories. Our motivating example is the category OrdAb of preordered abelian groups; indeed, while abelian groups form a protomodular category, OrdAb does not. Having in mind the role of comma objects in the enriched context, we consider some of the characteristic properties of protomodularity with respect to comma objects instead of pullbacks. We show that the equivalence between protomodularity and certain properties on pullbacks also holds when replacing conveniently pullbacks by c…
We construct an exact completion for regular categories enriched in the cartesian closed category $\mathsf{Pos}$ of partially ordered sets and monotone functions by employing a suitable calculus of relations. We then characterize the embedding of any regular category into its completion and use this to obtain examples of concrete categories which arise as such completions. In particular, we prove that the exact completion in this enriched sense of both the categories of Stone and Priestley spaces is the category of compact ordered spaces of L. Nachbin. Finally, we consider the relationship bet…
Generalising Nachbin's theory of "topology and order", in this paper we continue the study of quantale-enriched categories equipped with a compact Hausdorff topology. We compare these $\mathcal{V}$-categorical compact Hausdorff spaces with ultrafilter-quantale-enriched categories, and show that the presence of a compact Hausdorff topology guarantees Cauchy completeness and (suitably defined) codirected completeness of the underlying quantale enriched category.
We define and study the notion of a locally bounded enriched category over a (locally bounded) symmetric monoidal closed category, generalizing the locally bounded ordinary categories of Freyd and Kelly. In addition to proving several general results for constructing examples of locally bounded enriched categories and locally bounded closed categories, we demonstrate that locally bounded enriched categories admit fully enriched analogues of many of the convenient results enjoyed by locally bounded ordinary categories. In particular, we prove full enrichments of Freyd and Kelly's reflectivity a…
We define the twisted tensor product of two enriched categories, which generalizes various sorts of `products' of algebraic structures, including the bicrossed product of groups, the twisted tensor product of (co)algebras and the double cross product of bialgebras. The key ingredient in the definition is the notion of simple twisting systems between two enriched categories. To give examples of simple twisted tensor products we introduce matched pairs of enriched categories. Several other examples related to ordinary categories, posets and groupoids are also discussed.
We define and study opfibrations of $V$-enriched categories when $V$ is an extensive monoidal category whose unit is terminal and connected. This includes sets, simplicial sets, categories, or any locally cartesian closed category with disjoint coproducts and connected unit. We show that for an ordinary category $B$, there is an equivalence of 2-categories between $V$-enriched opfibrations over the free $V$-category on $B$, and pseudofunctors from $B$ to the 2-category of $V$-categories. This generalizes the classical ($Set$-enriched) Grothendieck correspondence.
Our subject is that of categories, functors and distributors enriched in a base quantaloid Q. We show how cocomplete Q-categories are precisely those which are tensored and conically cocomplete, or alternatively, those which are tensored, cotensored and order-cocomplete. Bearing this in mind, we analyze how Sup-valued homomorphisms on Q are related to Q-categories. With an appendix on action, representation and variation.
We define Euler characteristic of a category enriched by a monoidal model category. If a monoidal model category V is equipped with Euler characteristic that is compatible with weak equivalences and fibrations in V, then our Euler characteristic is also compatible with weak equivalences and fibrations in the model structure induced by that of V. In particular, we focus on the case of topological categories; that is, categories enriched by the category of topological spaces. As its application, we obtain the ordinary Euler characteristic of a cellular stratified space X by computing the Euler c…
Given a category $\mathcal C$ and a directed partially ordered set $J$, a certain category $pro^J -\mathcal C$ on inverse systems in $\mathcal C$ is constructed such that the ordinary pro-category $pro-\mathcal C$ is the most special case of a singleton $J \equiv \{1\}$. Further, the known $pro^*$-category $pro ^*-\mathcal C$ becomes $pro ^{\mathbb N }-\mathcal C$. Moreover, given a pro-reflective category pair $(\mathcal C, \mathcal D)$, the $J$-shape category $Sh^J_{(C,\mathcal D)}$ and the corresponding $J$-shape functor $S^J$ are constructed which, in mentioned special cases, become the we…
Continuous lattices were characterised by Martin Escardo as precisely the objects that are Kan-injective w.r.t. a certain class of morphisms. We study Kan-injectivity in general categories enriched in posets. For every class H of morphisms we study the subcategory of all objects Kan-injective w.r.t. H and all morphisms preserving Kan-extensions. For categories such as Top_0 and Pos we prove that whenever H is a set of morphisms, the above subcategory is monadic, and the monad it creates is a Kock-Zoeberlein monad. However, this does not generalise to proper classes: we present a class of conti…
We decribe the correspondence between normalised $ω$-operads and certain lax monoidal structures on the category of globular sets. As with ordinary monoidal categories, one has a notion of category enriched in a lax monoidal category. Within the aforementioned correspondence, we provide also an equivalence between the algebras of a given normalised $ω$-operad, and categories enriched in globular sets for the induced lax monoidal structure.
Braided-enriched monoidal categories were introduced in work of Morrison-Penneys, where they were characterized using braided central functors. Recent work of Kong-Yuan-Zhang-Zheng and Dell extended this characterization to an equivalence of 2-categories. Since their introduction, braided-enriched fusion categories have been used to describe certain phenomena in topologically ordered systems in theoretical condensed matter physics. While these systems are unitary, there was previously no general notion of unitarity for enriched categories in the literature. We supply the notion of unitarity fo…
This thesis is devoted to the proof of a theorem showing the existence of a closed model category structure for weakly enriched categories. It requires first of all the definitions of weakly enriched categories and equivalences of weakly enriched categories such that these definitions recover some existing notions of higher order weak categories, for example Segal categories, Tamsamani n-categories and strict n-categories. In order to prove our theorem, we elaborate a theory of plans for cell addition following the approach of the small object argument a la Quillen. We conclude this work with …
The familiar adjunction between ordered sets and completely distributive lattices can be extended to generalised metric spaces, that is, categories enriched over a quantale (a lattice of "truth values"), via an appropriate distributive law between the "down-set" monad and the "up-set" monad on the category of quantale-enriched categories. If the underlying lattice of the quantale is completely distributive, and if powers distribute over non-empty joins in the quantale, then this distributive law can be concretely formulated in terms of operations, equations and choice functions, similar to the…
We investigate certain categorical aspects of Voevodsky's triangulated categories of motives. For this, various recollements for Grothendieck categories of enriched functors and their derived categories are established. In order to extend these recollements further with respect to Serre's localization, the concept of the (strict) Voevodsky property for Serre localizing subcategories is introduced. This concept is inspired by the celebrated Voevodsky theorem on homotopy invariant presheaves with transfers. As an application, it is shown that Voevodsky's triangulated categories of motives fit in…
In this work, we use Ising chain and Kitaev chain to check the validity of an earlier proposal in arXiv:2011.02859 that enriched fusion (higher) categories provide a unified categorical description of all gapped/gapless quantum liquid phases, including symmetry-breaking phases, topological orders, SPT/SET orders and certain gapless quantum phases. In particular, we show explicitly that, in each gapped phase realized by these two models, the spacetime observables form a fusion category enriched in a braided fusion category. We also study the categorical descriptions of the boundaries of these m…
