We report direct evidence of a secondary flow excited by the Earth rotation in a water-filled spherical container spinning at constant rotation rate. This so-called {\it tilt-over flow} essentially consists in a rotation around an axis which is slightly tilted with respect to the rotation axis of the sphere. In the astrophysical context, it corresponds to the flow in the liquid cores of planets forced by precession of the planet rotation axis, and it has been proposed to contribute to the generation of planetary magnetic fields. Rotations of small, inertialess triaxial ellipsoids in isotropic turbulence

The statistics of rotational motion of small, inertialess triaxial ellipsoids are computed along Lagrangian trajectories extracted from direct numerical simulations of homogeneous isotropic turbulence. The particle angular velocity and its components along the three principal axes of the particle are considered, expanding on the results presented by \citet{ChevillardMeneveau13}. Destabilization of super-rotating Taylor-Couette flows by current-free helical magnetic fields

In an earlier paper we showed that the combination of azimuthal magnetic fields and super-rotation in Taylor-Couette flows of conducting fluids can be unstable against non-axisymmetric perturbations if the magnetic Prandtl number of the fluid is $Pm\neq 1$. Here we demonstrate that the addition of a weak axial field component may allow axisymmetric perturbation patterns for $Pm$ of order unity depending on the boundary conditions. Scaling and energy transfer in rotating turbulence

The inertial-range properties of quasi-stationary hydrodynamic turbulence under solid-body rotation are studied via high-resolution direct numerical simulations. For strong rotation the nonlinear energy cascade exhibits depletion and a pronounced anisotropy with the energy flux proceeding mainly perpendicularly to the rotation axis. Axisymmetry vs. nonaxisymmetry of a Taylor-Couette flow with azimuthal magnetic fields

The instability of a supercritical Taylor-Couette flow of a conducting fluid with resting outer cylinder under the influence of a uniform axial electric current is investigated for magnetic Prandtl number Pm=1. In the linear theory the critical Reynolds number for axisymmetric perturbations is not influenced by the current-induced axisymmetric magnetic field but all axisymmetric magnetic perturbations decay.
