In this paper, we define the notion of Hopf crossed square for cocommutative Hopf algebras extending the notions of crossed squares of groups and of Lie algebras. We prove the equivalence between the category of Hopf crossed squares and the category of double internal groupoids in the category of cocommutative Hopf algebras. The Hopf crossed squares turn out to be the internal crossed modules in the category of crossed modules in the category of cocommutative Hopf algebras.
We describe the split extension classifiers in the semi-abelian category of cocommutative Hopf algebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. The categorical notions of centralizer and of center in the category of cocommutative Hopf algebras is then explored. We show that the categorical notion of center coincides with the one that is considered in the theory of general Hopf algebras.
We study the Moore complex of a simplicial cocommutative Hopf algebra through Hopf kernels. The most striking result to emerge from this construction is the coherent definition of 2-crossed modules of cocommutative Hopf algebras. This unifies the 2-crossed module theory of groups and of Lie algebras when we take the group-like and primitive functors into consideration.
We prove that the category of cocommutative Hopf algebras over a field is a semi-abelian category. This result extends a previous special case of it, based on the Milnor-Moore theorem, where the field was assumed to have zero characteristic. Takeuchi's theorem asserting that the category of commutative and cocommutative Hopf algebras over a field is abelian immediately follows from this new observation. We also prove that the category of cocommutative Hopf algebras over a field is action representable. We make some new observations concerning the categorical commutator of normal Hopf subalgebr…
We prove a universal characterization of Hopf algebras among cocommutative bialgebras over a field: a cocommutative bialgebra is a Hopf algebra precisely when every split extension over it admits a join decomposition. We also explain why this result cannot be extended to a non-cocommutative setting.
We study the existence of universal measuring comonoids $P(A,B)$ for a pair of monoids $A$, $B$ in a braided monoidal closed category, and the associated enrichment of a category of monoids over the monoidal category of comonoids. In symmetric categories, we show that if $A$ is a bimonoid and $B$ is a commutative monoid, then $P(A,B)$ is a bimonoid; in addition, if $A$ is a cocommutative Hopf monoid then $P(A,B)$ always is Hopf. If $A$ is a Hopf monoid, not necessarily cocommutative, then $P(A,B)$ is Hopf if the fundamental theorem of comodules holds; to prove this we give an alternative descr…
After a thorough treatment of all algebraic structures involved, we address two dimensional holonomy operators with values in crossed modules of Hopf algebras and in crossed modules of associative algebras (called here crossed modules of bare algebras.) In particular, we will consider two general formulations of the two-dimensional holonomy of a (fully primitive) Hopf 2-connection (exact and blur), the first being multiplicative the second being additive, proving that they coincide in a certain natural quotient (defining what we called the fuzzy holonomy of a fully primitive Hopf 2-connection)…
Tracelets are the intrinsic carriers of causal information in categorical rewriting systems. In this work, we assemble tracelets into a symmetric monoidal decomposition space, inducing a cocommutative Hopf algebra of tracelets. This Hopf algebra captures important combinatorial and algebraic aspects of rewriting theory, and is motivated by applications of its representation theory to stochastic rewriting systems such as chemical reaction networks.
Any simplicial Hopf algebra involves $2n$ different projections between the Hopf algebras $H_n,H_{n-1}$ for each $n \geq 1$. The word projection, here meaning a tuple $\partial \colon H_{n} \to H_{n-1}$ and $i \colon H_{n-1} \to H_{n}$ of Hopf algebra morphisms, such that $\partial \, i = \mathrm{id}$. Given a Hopf algebra projection $(\partial \colon I \to H,i)$ in a braided monoidal category $\mathfrak{C}$, one can obtain a new Hopf algebra structure living in the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules over $H$, due to Radford's theorem. The underlying set of this Hopf algebra is obtained by an…
We prove a number of results concerning monomorphisms, epimorphisms, dominions and codominions in categories of coalgebras. Examples include: (a) representation-theoretic characterizations of monomorphisms in all of these categories that when the Hopf algebras in question are commutative specialize back to the familiar necessary and sufficient conditions (due to Bien-Borel) that a linear algebraic subgroup be epimorphically embedded; (b) the fact that a morphism in the category of (cocommutative) coalgebras, (cocommutative) bialgebras, and a host of categories of Hopf algebras has the same cod…
The zx-calculus and related theories are based on so-called interacting Frobenius algebras, where a pair of dagger-special commutative Frobenius algebras jointly form a pair of Hopf algebras. In this setting we introduce a generalisation of this structure, Hopf-Frobenius algebras, starting from a single Hopf algebra which is not necessarily commutative or cocommutative. We provide a few necessary and sufficient conditions for a Hopf algebra to be a Hopf-Frobenius algebra, and show that every Hopf algebra in the category of finite dimensional vector spaces is a Hopf-Frobenius algebra. In additi…
