In this paper, based on the Hirota and Maxwell-Bloch (H-MB) system and its application in the theory of the femtosecond pulse propagation through an erbium doped fiber, we define two kinds of nonlocal Hirota and Maxwell-Bloch (NH-MB) systems, namely, $PT$-symmetric NH-MB system and reverse space-time NH-MB system. Then we construct the Darboux transformations of these NH-MB systems. Meanwhile, we derive the explicit solutions by the Darboux transformations.
Direct and inverse problems for the Hirota difference equation are considered. Jost solutions and scattering data are introduced and their properties are presented. Darboux transformation in a special case is shown to give evolution with respect to discrete time and a recursion procedure for consequent construction of the Jost solution at arbitrary time, if the initial value is given. Some properties of the soliton solutions are discussed.
In this paper, we derive n-fold Darboux transformation of the two-component Hirota and the Maxwell-Bloch(TH-MB) equations and its determinant representation. Using Darboux determinant representation, we provide soliton solutions, positon solutions of the TH-MB equations.
The Hirota equation is an integrable higher order nonlinear Schrödinger type equation which describes the propagation of ultrashort light pulses in optical fibers. We present a standard Darboux transformation for the Hirota equation and then construct its quasideterminant solutions. The multisoliton and breather solutions of the Hirota equation are given explicitly.
A new Darboux transformation is presented for the Hirota-Satsuma coupled KdV system. It is shown that this Darboux transformation can be constructed by means of two methods: Painlevé analysis and reduction of a binary Darboux transformation. By iteration of the Darboux transformation, the Grammian type solutions are found for the coupled KdV system.
In this paper, we derive Darboux transformation of the inhomogeneous Hirota and the Maxwell-Bloch(IH-MB) equations which is governed by femtosecond pulse propagation through inhomogeneous doped fibre. The determinant representation of Darboux transformation is used to derive soliton solutions, positon solutions of the IH-MB equations.
The (2+1)-dimensional Hirota-Maxwell-Bloch equation (HMBE) is integrable by the Inverse Scattering Method. In this paper, we construct a Darboux transformation (DT) of the (2+1)-dimensional HMBE. Also the one-soliton solution obtained by means of the one-fold DT. For the $n$-soliton solution the general form is presented.
The Hirota equation is better than the nonlinear Schrödinger equation when approximating deep ocean waves. In this paper, high-order rational solutions for the Hirota equation are constructed based on the parameterized Darboux transformation. Several types of this kind of solutions are classified by their structures.
In this paper, we mainly analyze the long-time asymptotics of high-order soliton for the Hirota equation. Two different Riemann-Hilbert representations of Darboux matrix with high-order soliton are given to establish the relationships between inverse scattering method and Darboux transformation. The asymptotic analysis with single spectral parameter is derived through the formulas of determinant directly. Furthermore, the long-time asymptotics with $k$ spectral parameters is given by combining the iterated Darboux matrix and the result of high-order soliton with single spectral parameter, whic…
The paper presents two results. First it is shown how the discrete potential modified KdV equation and its Lax pairs in matrix form arise from the Hirota-Miwa equation by a 2-periodic reduction. Then Darboux transformations and binary Darboux transformations are derived for the discrete potential modified KdV equation and it is shown how these may be used to construct exact solutions.
This paper is dedicated to study higher-order rogue wave solutions of the coupled Hirota equations with high-order nonlinear effects like the third dispersion, self-steepening and stimulated Raman scattering terms. By using the generalized Darboux transformation, a unified representation of Nth-order rogue wave solution with 3N+1 free parameters is obtained. In particular, the first-order rogue wave solution containing polynomials of fourth order, and the second-order rogue wave solution consisting of polynomials of eighth order are explicitly presented. Through the numerical plots, we show th…
In this paper, We extend the two-component coupled Hirota equation to the three-component one, and reconstruct the Lax pair with $4\times4$ matrixes of this three-component coupled system including higher-order effects such as third-order dispersion, self-steepening and delayed nonlinear response. Combining the generalized Darboux transformation and a specific vector solution of this $4\times4$ matrix spectral problem, we study higher-order localized nonlinear waves in this three-component coupled system. Then, the semi-rational and multi-parametric solutions of this system are derived in our …
The Hirota-Miwa equation can be written in `nonlinear' form in two ways: the discrete KP equation and, by using a compatible continuous variable, the discrete potential KP equation. For both systems, we consider the Darboux and binary Darboux transformations, expressed in terms of the continuous variable, and obtain exact solutions in Wronskian and Grammian form. We discuss reductions of both systems to the discrete KdV and discrete potential KdV equations, respectively, and exploit this connection to find the Darboux and binary Darboux transformations and exact solutions of these equations.
We exploit the gauge equivalence between the Hirota equation and the extended continuous Heisenberg equation to investigate how nonlocality properties of one system are inherited by the other. We provide closed generic expressions for nonlocal multi-soliton solutions for both systems. By demonstrating that a specific auto-gauge transformation for the extended continuous Heisenberg equation becomes equivalent to a Darboux transformation, we use the latter to construct the nonlocal multi-soliton solutions from which the corresponding nonlocal solutions to the Hirota equation can be computed dire…
We obtain the well-known discrete modified Boussinesq equation in two-component form as well as its Lax pair in $3\times3$ matrix form through a 3-periodic reduction technique on the Hirota-Miwa equation and its Lax pair. We describe how Darboux transformations and binary Darboux transformations can be constructed for this two-component discrete integrable equation. These transformations are then used to obtain classes of explicit solutions in the form of Casorati- and Gramm-type determinants. $N$-soliton solutions of the discrete modified Boussinesq equation are discussed as well when taking …
In this paper, we derive a Darboux transformation of the Hirota and the Maxwell-Bloch(H-MB) system which is governed by femtosecond pulse propagation through an erbium doped fibre and further generalize it to the matrix form of the $n$-fold Darboux transformation of this system. This $n$-fold Darboux transformation implies the determinant representation of $n$-th new solutions of $(E^{[n]},p^{[n]}, η^{[n]})$ generated from known solution of $(E, p,η)$. The determinant representation of $(E^{[n]},p^{[n]} ,η^{[n]})$ provides soliton solutions, positon solutions, and breather solutions (both brig…
We construct rogue wave solutions on the double periodic background for the Hirota equation through one fold Darboux transformation formula. We consider two types of double periodic solutions as seed solutions. We identify the squared eigenfunctions and eigenvalues that appear in the one fold Darboux transformation formula through an algebraic method with two eigenvalues. We then construct the desired solution in two steps. In the first step, we create double periodic waves as the background. In the second step, we build rogue wave solution on the top of this double periodic solution. We prese…
In this paper, we construct a Darboux transformation (DT) of the (2+1)-dimensional Schrödinger-Maxwell-Bloch equation (SMBE) which is integrable by the Inverse Scattering Method. Using this DT, the one-soliton solution and periodic solution are obtained from the "seed" solutions.
A non-Abelian version of the Hirota-Miwa equation is considered. In an earlier paper [Nimmo (2006) J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. \textbf{39}, 5053-5065] it was shown how solutions expressed as quasideterminants could be constructed for this system by means of Darboux transformations. In this paper we discuss these solutions from a different perspective and show that the solutions are quasi-Plücker coordinates and that the non-Abelian Hirota-Miwa equation may be written as a quasi-Plücker relation. The special case of the matrix Hirota-Miwa equation is also considered using a more traditional, bilinea…
In this paper, we construct a generalized Darboux transformation for nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The associated $N$-fold Darboux transformation is given both in terms of a summation formula and in terms of determinants. As applications, we obtain compact representations for the $N$-th order rogue wave solutions of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation and Hirota equation. In particular, the dynamics of the general third order rogue wave is discussed and shown to exhibit interesting structure.
With the extended logarithmic flow equations and some extended Vertex operators in generalized Hirota bilinear equations, extended bigraded Toda hierarchy(EBTH) was proved to govern the Gromov-Witten theory of orbiford $c_{NM}$ in literature. The generating function of these Gromov-Witten invariants is one special solution of the EBTH. In this paper, the multi-fold Darboux transformations and their determinant representations of the EBTH are given with two different gauge transformation operators. The two Darboux transformations in different directions are used to generate new solutions from k…
We show that the discrete Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) equation with sources obtained recently by the "source generalization" method can be incorporated into the squared eigenfunction symmetry extension procedure. Moreover, using the known correspondence between Darboux-type transformations and additional independent variables, we demonstrate that the equation with sources can be derived from Hirota's discrete KP equations but in a space of higher dimension. In this way we uncover the origin of the source terms as coming from multidimensional consistency of the Hirota system itself.
We construct all higher order conserved charges from a general two-dimensional zero curvature condition using a Gardner transformation. Employing two of those charges in the definition of a Hamiltonian allows to view the Hirota equations as an integrable $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric extension of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We construct new degenerate multi-soliton solutions from Hirota's direct method as well as Darboux-Crum transformations based on Jordan states. We study the properties of these solutions, computing their asymptotic time-dependent displacements and also show that their sc…
In this paper, we construct the Sato theory including the Hirota bilinear equations and tau function of a new $q$-deformed Toda hierarchy(QTH). Meanwhile the Block type additional symmetry and bi-Hamiltonian structure of this hierarchy are given. From Hamiltonian tau symmetry, we give another definition of tau function of this hierarchy. Afterwards, we extend the $q$-Toda hierarchy to an extended $q$-Toda hierarchy(EQTH) which satisfy a generalized Hirota quadratic equation in terms of generalized vertex operators. The Hirota quadratic equation might have further application in Gromov-Witten t…
We show that the Painleve equations P3-P5 can be derived (in a unified way) from a periodic sequence of Darboux transformations for a Schrodinger problem with quadratic eigenvalue dependency. The general problem naturally divides into three different branches, each described by an infinite chain of equations. The Painleve equations are obtained by closing the chain periodically at the lowest nontrivial level(s). The chains provide ``symmetric forms'' for the Painleve equations, from which Hirota bilinear forms and Lax pairs are derived. In this paper (Part 1) we analyze in detail the cases P3-…
In our previous work \cite{LNS}, we constructed quasi-Casoratian solutions to the noncommutative $q$-difference two-dimensional Toda lattice ($q$-2DTL) equation by Darboux transformation, which we can prove produces the existing Casoratian solutions to the bilinear $q$-2DTL equation obtained by Hirota's bilinear method in commutative setting. It is actually true that one can not only construct solutions to soliton equations but also solutions to their corresponding B$\ddot{a}$cklund transformations by their Darboux transformations and binary Darboux transformations. To be more specific, eigenf…
Ishimori equation is a $(2+1)$ dimensional generalization of the $(1+1)$ dimensional integrable classical continuous Heisenberg ferromagnetic spin equation. The richness of the coherent structures admitted by Ishimori equation I such as dromion, lump and rationally- exponentially localized solutions, have been demonstrated in the literature through $\bar \partial$ technique and binary Darboux transformation method. To our knowledge Hirota's method had been adopted to construct only the vortex solutions of Ishimori equation II. For the first time, the various types of localized coherent structu…
A series of new soliton solutions are presented for the inhomogeneous variable coefficient Hirota equation by using the Riemann Hilbert method and transformation relationship. First, through a standard dressing procedure, the N-soliton matrix associated with the simple zeros in the Riemann Hilbert problem for the Hirota equation is constructed. Then the N-soliton matrix of the inhomogeneous variable coefficient Hirota equation can be obtained by a special transformation relationship from the N-soliton matrix of the Hirota equation. Next, using the generalized Darboux transformation, the high-o…
Based on modulation instability analysis and generalized Darboux transformation, we derive a hierarchy of rogue wave solutions for a variable-coefficients coupled Hirota equations. The explicit first-order rogue wave solution is presented, and the dark-bright and composite rogue waves with multiple compression points are shown by choosing sufficiently large periodic modulation amplitudes in the coefficients of the coupled equations. Also, the dark-bright and composite Peregrine combs are generated from the multiple compression points. For the second-order case, the darkbright three sisters, ro…
In classical shallow water wave (SWW) theory, there exist two integrable one-dimensional SWW equation [Hirota-Satsuma (HS) type and Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur (AKNS) type] in the Boussinesq approximation. In this paper, we mainly focus on the integrable SWW equation of AKNS type. The nonlocal symmetry in form of square spectral function is derived starting from its Lax pair. Infinitely many nonlocal symmetries are presented by introducing the arbitrary spectrum parameter. These nonlocal symmetries can be localized and the SWW equation is extended to enlarged system with auxiliary dependent var…
We discuss geometric integrability of Hirota's discrete KP equation in the framework of projective geometry over division rings using the recently introduced notion of Desargues maps. We also present the Darboux-type transformations, and we review symmetries of the Desargues maps from the point of view of root lattices of type A and the action of the corresponding affine Weyl group. Such a point of view facilities to study the relation of Desargues maps and the discrete conjugate nets. Recent investigation of geometric integrability of Desargues maps allowed to introduce two maps satisfying fu…
The nonlocal symmetry is derived from the known Darboux transformation (DT) of the Hirota-Satsuma coupled KdV (HS-cKdV) system, and infinitely many nonlocal symmetries are obtained by introducing some internal parameters. By extending the HS-cKdV system to an auxiliary system with five dependent variables, the prolongation is found to localize the nonlocal symmetry related to the DT. Base on the enlarged system, the finite symmetry transformations and similarity reductions about the local symmetries are computed, which lead to some novel exact solutions of the HS-cKdV system. These solutions c…
We construct several new integrable systems corresponding to nonlocal versions of the Hirota equation, which is a particular example of higher order nonlinear Schrödinger equations. The integrability of the new models is established by providing their explicit forms of Lax pairs or zero curvature conditions. The two compatibility equations arising in this construction are found to be related to each other either by a parity transformation $\mathcal{P}$, by a time reversal $\mathcal{T}$ or a $\mathcal{PT}$-transformation possibly combined with a conjugation. We construct explicit multi-soliton …
A noncommutative version of the KP equation and two families of its solutions expressed as quasideterminants are discussed. The origin of these solutions is explained by means of Darboux and binary Darboux transformations. Additionally, it is shown that these solutions may also be verified directly. This approach is reminiscent of the wronskian technique used for the Hirota bilinear form of the regular, commutative KP equation but, in the noncommutative case, no bilinearising transformation is available.
Unifying hierarchies of integrable equations are discussed. They are constructed via generalized Hirota identity. It is shown that the Combescure transformations, known for a long time for the Darboux system and having a simple geometrical meaning, are in fact the symmetry transformations of generalized integrable hierarchies. Generalized equation written in terms of invariants of Combescure transformations are the usual integrable equations and their modified partners. The KP-mKP, DS-mDS hierarchies and Darboux system are considered.
In [1], a generalized type of Darboux transformations defined in terms of a twisted derivation was constructed in a unified form. Such twisted derivations include regular derivations, difference operators, superderivatives and $q$-difference operators as special cases. The formulae for the iteration of Darboux transformations are expressed in terms of quasideterminants. This approach not only enables one to recover the known Darboux transformations and quasideterminant solutions to the noncommutative KP equation, the non-Abelian two-dimensional Toda lattice equation, the non-Abelian Hirota-Miw…
The singular manifold method from the Painleve analysis can be used to investigate many important integrable properties for the nonlinear partial differential equations. In this paper, the two-singular-manifold method is applied to the (2+1)-dimensional Gardner equation with two Painleve expansion branches to determine the Hirota bilinear form, Backlund transformation, Lax pairs and Darboux transformation. Based on the obtained Lax pairs, the binary Darboux transformation is constructed and the N N Grammian solution is also derived by performing the iterative algorithm Ntimes with symbolic comp…
We investigate the reduced Maxwell-Bloch (RMB) equations which describe the propagation of short optical pulses in dielectric materials with resonant non-degenerate transitions. The general Nth-order periodic solutions are provided by means of the Darboux transformation, and from two different limiting cases of the obtained general periodic solutions, the Nth-order degenerate periodic and Nth-order rational solutions containing several free parameters with compact determinant representations are derived, respectively. Explicit expressions of these solutions from first to second order are prese…
We report for the first time exact solutions of a completely integrable nonlinear lattice system for which the dynamical variables satisfy a q-deformed Lie algebra - the Lie-Poisson algebra su_q(2). The system considered is a q-deformed lattice for which in continuum limit the equations of motion become the envelope Maxwell-Bloch (or SIT) equations describing the resonant interaction of light with a nonlinear dielectric. Thus the N-soliton solutions we here report are the natural q-deformations, necessary for a lattice, of the well-known multi-soliton and breather solutions of self-induced tra…
We consider equations that formally resemble a matrix Riemann (or Hopf) equation in the framework of bidifferential calculus. With different choices of a first-order bidifferential calculus, we obtain a variety of equations, including a semi-discrete and a fully discrete version of the matrix Riemann equation. A corresponding universal solution-generating method then either yields a (continuous or discrete) Cole-Hopf transformation, or leaves us with the problem of solving Riemann equations (hence an application of the hodograph method). If the bidifferential calculus extends to second order, …
We report complex PT-symmetric multi-soliton solutions to the Korteweg de-Vries equation that asymptotically contain one-soliton solutions, with each of them possessing the same amount of finite real energy. We demonstrate how these solutions originate from degenerate energy solutions of the Schroedinger equation. Technically this is achieved by the application of Darboux-Crum transformations involving Jordan states with suitable regularizing shifts. Alternatively they may be constructed from a limiting process within the context Hirota's direct method or on a nonlinear superposition obtained …
In this paper the coupled Maxwell-Bloch equations which describe the propagation of two optical pulses in an optical medium with coherent three-level atoms are studied by Darboux transformation. The general nth-order rogue wave solution involving two different choices of multiple roots for the spectral characteristic equation and the multiparametric nth-order semirational solution are both obtained in terms of Schur polynomials. The explicit rogue wave solutions and semirational solutions from first to second order are provided. In contrast to the known Peregrine soliton, dark and four-petaled…
