Extending our recently published $SU(2)$ results for zero temperature we now compute the QCD equation of state for finite isospin density within the three flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in the mean field approximation, motivated by the recently obtained Lattice QCD results for both zero and finite temperatures. Like our previous study, here also we have considered both the commonly used Traditional cutoff Regularization Scheme and the Medium Separation Scheme. Our results are compared with recent high-precision lattice simulations as well as previously obtained results in two-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. The agreement between the lattice results and the predictions from three-flavor NJL model is very good for low values of $μ_I$ (for both zero and finite temperatures). For larger values of $μ_I$, the agreement between lattice data and the two-flavor NJL predictions is surprisingly good and better than with the three-flavor predictions.
The dual quark condensate $Σ^{(n)}$ proposed recently as a new order parameter of the spontaneous breaking of the ${\mathbb Z}_3$ symmetry are evaluated by the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, where $n$ are winding numbers. The Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model well reproduces lattice QCD data on $Σ^{(1)}$ measured very lately. The dual quark condensate $Σ^{(n)}$ at higher temperatures is sensitive to the strength of the vector-type four-quark interaction in the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model and hence a good quantity to determine the strength.
Various aspects of the Generalised Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model for QCD in four dimensions are reviewed. The properties of mesonic excitations are discussed in detail, with special attention paid to the chiral pion. The spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in the vacuum and the effective chiral symmetry restoration in the spectrum of highly excited mesons and baryons are described microscopically.
We analyze the chiral phase transition of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model in the cold and dense region on the lattice developing the Grassmann version of the anisotropic tensor renormalization group algorithm. The model is formulated with the Kogut--Susskind fermion action. We use the chiral condensate as an order parameter to investigate the restoration of the chiral symmetry. The first-order chiral phase transition is clearly observed in the dense region at vanishing temperature with $μ/T\sim O(10^3)$ on a large volume of $V=1024^4$. We also present the results for the equation of state.
Baryons in the massive Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in 1+1 dimensions (the massive chiral Gross-Neveu model) are studied in the limit of an infinite number of flavors. The baryon mass is evaluated for a wide range of bare fermion masses and filling fractions, combining analytical asymptotic expansions with a full numerical Hartree-Fock calculation.
We study a particular class of Abelian gauged Nambu-Jona-Lasinio models with global U_L(N)xU_R(N) symmetry, where N is the number of fermion flavors. We show, by treating the gauge interaction in the ladder approximation and four-fermion interactions in the leading order of the 1/N expansion, that the renormalization-group beta function of the U(1) gauge coupling has ultraviolet stable fixed points for sufficiently large N. This implies the existence of a nontrivial continuum limit.
We consider the "two flavour" Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model in the presence of a vector and an axial external chemical potentials and study the phase structure of the model at zero temperature. The Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model is often used as a toy replica of QCD and it is therefore interesting to explore the consequences of adding external vector and axial chemical potentials in this model, mostly motivated by claims that such external drivers could trigger a phase where parity could be broken in QCD. We are also motivated by some lattice analysis that attempt to understand the nature of the so-cal…
We argue that the spontaneous breakdown of symmetry in the chirally symmetric Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model which was supposed to illustrate the origin of the low mass of pions in hadron physics does not occur due to strong fluctuations in the sigma - pi field space. Although quarks acquire a constituent mass, sigma and pi turn out to have equal heavy masses of the order of the constituent quark mass.
We investigate the rapid rise of the dressed Polyakov loop in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model as a function of temperature. In QCD such a behaviour is interpreted as a confinement- deconfinement phase transition. However, we demonstrate that in the NJL model this is simply a remnant of the chiral transition.
We point out that adding higher dimension operators to the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model can stabilize chiral symmetry breaking and resolve the issue raised by Kleinert and Van den Bossche that chiral symmetry breaking cannot occur for $N_c \le N_c^{\rm cr}$ due to large quantum fluctuations of the composite fields.
We study the chiral phase transition of the two flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model in a sphere with the MIT boundary condition. We find that the MIT boundary condition results in much stronger finite size effects than the antiperiodic boundary condition. Our work may be helpful to study the finite size effects in heavy-ion collision in a more realistic way.
We present a study of the 1+1 flavor system of strongly interacting matter in terms of the Polyakov$-$Nambu$-$Jona-Lasinio model. We find that though the small isospin symmetry breaking brought in through unequal light quark masses is too small to affect the thermodynamics of the system in general, it may have significant effect in baryon-isospin correlations and have a measurable impact in heavy-ion collision experiments.
In the frame of flavor SU(2) Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with $U_A(1)$ breaking term we found that, the structure of two chiral phase transition lines does not exist at low isospin density in real world, and the critical isospin chemical potential for pion superfluidity is exactly the pion mass in the vacuum.
We propose an axionic QCD string scenario based on the original flux-tube model by Kogut and Susskind, and then incorporate it into a gauged Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. Axial anomaly is studied by a new topological coupling from the string side, and by the 't Hooft vortex from the NJL side, respectively. The nontrivial phase distribution of the quark condensate plays an important role in this scenario.
We discuss the 2+1 flavor Polyakov loop enhanced Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model in a finite volume. The main objective is to check the volume scaling of thermodynamic observables for various temperatures and chemical potentials. We observe the possible violation of the scaling with system size in a considerable window along the whole transition region in the $T-μ_q$ plane.
The phase structure of Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model is explored at imaginary chemical potential, with particular emphasis on the deconfinement transition. We point out that the statistical confinement nature of the model naturally leads to characteristic dependence of the chiral condensate $<\bar{q}q>$ on $θ=μ_I/T$. We introduce a dual parameter for the deconfinement transition by making use of this dependence. By changing a four-fermion coupling constant, we tune the location of the critical endpoint of the deconfinement transition.
We investigate the QCD phase diagram at zero chemical potential and finite temperature in the presence of an external magnetic field within the three flavor Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio and entangled Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio models looking for the inverse magnetic catalysis. Two scenarios for a scalar coupling parameter dependent on the magnetic field intensity are considered. These dependencies of the coupling allow to reproduce qualitatively lattice QCD results for the quark condensates and for the Polyakov loop: due to the magnetic field the quark condensates are enhanced at low and high …
We study inverse magnetic catalysis in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model beyond mean field approximation. The feed-down from mesons to quarks is embedded in an effective coupling constant at finite temperature and magnetic field. While the magnetic catalysis is still the dominant effect at low temperature, the meson dressed quark mass drops down with increasing magnetic field at high temperature due to the dimension reduction of the Goldstone mode in the Pauli-Villars regularization scheme.
A recently proposed new mechanism of D-term triggered dynamical supersymmetry breaking is reviewed. Supersymmetry is dynamically broken by nonvanishing D-term vacuum expectation value, which is realized as a nontrivial solution of the gap equation in the self-consistent approximation as in the case of Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model and BCS superconductivity.
We discuss the lightest scalar resonances, $f_0(600)$, $κ(800)$, $a_0(980)$ and $f_0(980)$ in the extended Nambu Jona-Lasinio model. We find that the model parameters can be tuned, but unnaturally, to accommodate for those scalars except the $f_0(980)$. We also discuss problems encountered in the K Matrix unitarization approximation by using $N_c$ counting technique.
A detailed analysis is performed for the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model coupled with constant (external) magnetic and/or electric fields in two, three, and four dimensions. The infrared cut-off is essential for a well-defined functional determinant by means of the proper time method. Contrary to the previous observation, the critical coupling remains nonzero even in three dimensions. It is also found that the asymptotic expansion has an excellent matching with the exact value.
We investigate strong and radiative meson decays in a generalized Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The one loop order calculation provides a satisfactory agreement with the data for the mesonic spectrum and for radiative decays. Higher order effects for strong decays of $ρ$ and $K^*$ are estimated to be large. We also discuss the role of the flavour mixing determinantal interaction.
Using the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model we study responses of the pion and kaon masses to changes in the chemical potential, $dm/dμ$, at zero and finite chemical potential. We find that the behavior of $dm/dμ$ for the pion is quite different from that for the kaon. Our results can give a clue for future studies of $dm/dμ$ on the lattice.
We report the first model study of the net charge fluctuations in terms of D-measure within the framework of the Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. Net charge fluctuation is estimated from the charge susceptibility evaluated using PNJL model. A parameterization of the freeze-out curve has been used to obtain D as a function of sqrt(s). We have discussed our results vis-a-vis recent experimental findings from ALICE collaboration.
Effect of magnetic field on chiral symmetry breaking in a 3-flavor Nambu Jona Lasinio (NJL) model at finite temperature and densities is considered here using an explicit structure of ground state in terms of quark and antiquark condensates. While at zero chemical potential and finite temperature, magnetic field enhances the condensates, at zero temperature, the critical chemical potential decreases with increasing magnetic field.
We investigate pion superfluidity in the frame of two flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model beyond mean field approximation. We calculate the thermodynamics to the next to leading order in an expansion in the inverse number of colors, including both quark and meson contributions at finite temperature and baryon and isospin density. Due to the meson fluctuations, the Sarma phase which exists at mean field level is washed away, and the Bose-Einstein condensation region at low isospin density is highly suppressed.
We study a Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) type model with two-flavor quark matter in $β$-equilibrium. It turns out that the system develops instabilities in the dispersion relations of the diquark fields, i.e., the velocity squared $v^2$ becomes negative in a certain region of the electron chemical potential. The critical point is the same as that of the chromomagnetic instability. The results imply the existence of spatially inhomogeneous diquark condensates in the genuine vacuum. We also discuss gauge equivalent classes between the inhomogeneous diquark condensates and gluon condensates.
We present an analysis of two-current correlations for the pion in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, with Pauli--Villars regularization. We provide explicit expressions in momentum space for two-current correlations corresponding to the zeroth component of the vector Dirac bilinear in the quark vertices, which has been evaluated on the lattice. The numerical results show a remarkable qualitative agreement with recent lattice data. The factorization approximation into one-body currents is discussed.
The mechanism of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking is studied in the Abelian version of the gauged Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in four dimensions. The most interesting feature of the gauged Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model is the appearance of relevant (renormalizable) four-fermion interactions near a critical curve separating a chiral symmetric and a dynamically chiral symmetry broken phase. The first three chapters of the thesis are introductory. Chapter 4 is based on hep-th/9712123. In an attempt to go beyond standard mean field approximations for four-fermion interactions, the 1/N expansion is utili…
It is shown that the difference between the magnetic moment results in the quark model with null instantons and semibosonized Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model lies in the description of the magnetic moment of the $ Λ$-hyperon.
In this review, we summarize recent progress on the possible phases of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) in the presence of a strong magnetic field, mainly from the views of the chiral effective Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. Four kinds of phase transitions are explored in detail: chiral symmetry breaking and restoration, neutral pseudoscalar superfluidity, charged pion superfluidity and charged rho superconductivity. In particular, we revisit the unsolved problems of inverse magnetic catalysis effect and competition between the chiral density wave and solitonic modulation phases. It is shown that usef…
The QCD phase diagram at zero chemical potential and finite temperature subject to an external magnetic field is studied within the three flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model and the NJL model with the Polyakov loop (PNJL). A scalar coupling parameter dependent on the magnetic field intensity is considered. The scalar coupling has been fitted so that the lattice QCD pseudocritical chiral transition temperatures are reproduced and in the limit of large magnetic field decreases with the inverse of the magnetic field intensity. This dependence of the coupling allows to reproduce the lattice QCD…
In this paper we discuss Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model as a classical model for dynamical mass generation and symmetry breaking. In addition we discuss the possible supersymmetric extensions of this model resulting from interaction terms with four chiral superfields that may be regarded as a supersymmetric generalization of the four-fermion interactions of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. A four-superfield interaction terms can be constructed as either dimension 6 or dimension 5 operators. Through analyzing solutions to the gap equations, we discuss the dynamical generation of superfield Dirac mass, i…
In a previous work, we proposed an extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model including heavy quark flavors. In this work, we will calculate strong and radiative decays of vector mesons in this extended NJL model, including light $ρ$, $ω$, $K^*$, $ϕ$ and heavy $D^*$, $D^*_s$, $B^*$, $B^*_s$.
A generalization to any dimension of the fermion field transformation which allows to derive the solution of the massless Schwinger model in the path integral framework is identified. New arguments based on this transformation for a Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) like model as the low energy limit of a gauge theory in dimension greater than two are presented. Our result supports the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking picture conjectured by Nambu many years ago and the link between QCD, NJL and chiral models.
In present report we review some preliminary results of investigation of higher orders of mean-field expansion for Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. We discuss first results of investigation of next-to-next-to-leading order of mean-field expansion equations for four-quark and three-quark Green functions. We have considered equations for Green functions of Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model in mean-field expansion up to third order.
We calculate the shear $η(T)$ and bulk viscosities $ζ(T)$ as well as the electric conductivity $σ_e(T)$ and heat conductivity $κ(T)$ within the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model for 3 flavors as a function of temperature as well as the entropy density $s(T)$, pressure $P(T)$ and speed of sound $c_s^2(T)$. We compare the results with other models such as the Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model and the dynamical quasiparticle model (DQPM) and confront these results with lattice QCD data whenever available. We find the NJL model to have a limited predictive power for the thermodynamic variables and v…
Given the phenomenological success of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in describing the meson physics in the low energy limit, it is tempting to find the fully relativistically structured nucleon solution in the same model under the similar approximation employed in the mesonic sector. To achieve this goal we need to solve a relativistic Faddeev equation. The factorizability of the two-body T-matrix reduces the three-body Faddeev equation to a tractable two-body Bethe-Salpeter equation. The reduced equation is then solved numerically. Our result indicates that the nucleon consists of three loosel…
The polarization effects of the processes $τ\rightarrow K^{-} π^{0} ν_τ$ are described in the framework of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The intermediate vector meson $K^{*}(892)$ is taken into account. The contribution of these effects to the differential decay width is obtained.
Chiral phase properties of finite size hadronic systems are investigated within the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. Finite size effects are taken into account by making use of the multiple reflection expansion. We find that, for droplets with relatively small baryon numbers, chiral symmetry restoration is enhanced by the finite size effects. However the radius of the stable droplet does not change much, as compared to that without the multiple reflection expansion.
The infrared dynamics in the (3+1)-dimensional supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in a constant magnetic field is studied. While at strong coupling the dynamics in these two models is essentially different, it is shown that the models become equivalent at weak coupling. In particular, at weak coupling, as the strength of the magnetic field goes to infinity, both the supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric Nambu-Jona-Lasinio models are reduced to a continuum set of independent (1+1)-dimensional Gross-Neveu models, labeled by the coordinates in the plane perpendicular t…
Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model used to investigate low energy phenomena is nonrenormalizable, therefore the results depend on the regularization parameter in general. A possibility of the finite in four-dimensional limit and even the regularization parameter (this is dimension in the dimensional regularization scheme) independent analysis is shown in the leading order of the 1/Nc expansion.
We review the effect on vacuum properties and magnetic catalysis, of adding the most general 0-spin 8-quark (8q) interactions to the combined SU(3) flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) and 6-quark (6q) 't Hooft interaction Lagrangian.
The electromagnetic dipole and quadrupole polarizabilities of the neutral and charged pions are calculated in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. Our results agree with the recent experimental analysis of these quantities based on Dispersion Sum Rules. Comparison is made with the results from the Chiral Perturbation Theory.
We calculate the shear $η(T)$ and bulk viscosities $ζ(T)$ as well as the electric conductivity $σ_e(T)$ and heat conductivity $κ(T)$ within the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model for 3 flavors as a function of temperature as well as the entropy density $s(T)$, pressure $P(T)$ and speed of sound squared $c_s^2(T)$. We compare the results with other models such as the Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model and the dynamical quasiparticle model (DQPM) and confront these results with lattice QCD data whenever available. We find the NJL model to have a limited predictive power for the thermodynamic variabl…
We derive the critical temperature in a nonlocal Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with the presence of a chiral chemical potential. The model we consider uses a form factor derived from recent studies of the gluon propagator in Yang-Mills theory and has the property to fit in excellent way the form factor arising from the instanton liquid picture for the vacuum of the theory. Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model is derived form quantum chromodynamics providing all the constants of the theory without any need for fits. We show that the critical temperature in this case always exists and increases as the square of …
It is recently shown that in 4D $SU(N)$ Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) type models, the $SU(N)$ symmetry breaking into its special subgroups is not special but much more common than that into the regular subgroups, where the fermions belong to complex representations of $SU(N)$. We perform the same analysis for $SO(N)$ NJL model for various $N$ with fermions belonging to an irreducible spinor representation of $SO(N)$. We find that the symmetry breaking into special or regular subgroups has some correlation with the type of fermion representations; i.e., complex, real, pseudo-real representations.
The off--shell electromagnetic vertex function of pions and kaons is studied in a bosonized Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with a gauge--invariant proper--time cutoff. The slope of the pion form factor with respect to the pion 4--momentum is found to be equal to the on--shell pion charge radius in the chiral limit. The off--shell slope of the $K^0$ form factor is zero, that of the $K^\pm$ about 15\% smaller than that of the pion. We compare our results with those of a recent calculation in chiral perturbation theory.
Dynamical symmetry breaking is investigated for a four-fermion Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in external electromagnetic and gravitational fields. An effective potential is calculated in the leading order of the large-N expansion using the proper-time Schwinger formalism. Phase transitions accompanying a chiral symmetry breaking in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model are studied in detail. A magnetic calalysis phenomenon is shown to exist in curved spacetime but it turns out to lose its universal character because the chiral symmetry is restored above some critical positive value of the spacetime curvatur…
Using the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model to describe the nucleon as a quark-diquark state, we discuss the stability of nuclear matter in a hybrid model for the ground state at finite nucleon density. It is shown that a simple extension of the model to simulate the effects of confinement leads to a scalar polarizability of the nucleon. This, in turn, leads to a less attractive effective interaction between the nucleons, helping to achieve saturation of the nuclear matter ground state. It is also pointed out that that the same effect naturally leads to a suppression of ``Z-graph'' contributions with i…
The survival of \bar q q bound states at temperatures higher than the chiral restoration temperature, T_c, recently observed in lattice QCD, is discussed in the framework of the Nambu Jona-Lasinio model. The perturbative determination of the spectral function provides an indication of a pseudogap phase above T_c.
The full and differential widths of the decay $τ\rightarrow K^{0}K^{-}ν_τ$ are calculated in the framework of the extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. The contributions of the subprocesses with the intermediate vector mesons $ρ$(770) and $ρ$(1450) are taken into account. The obtained results are in satisfactory agreement with the experimental data.
The vacuum structure for a Nambu-Jona -Lasinio type model is studied using the effective potential approach. The relevant degrees of freedom are taken to be two different sets of static, auxiliary fields with different symmetry properties, related by Fierz transformations in the action. The results are compared with the analysis of the Dyson-Schwinger equations in the one-loop approximation.
We have investigated shear viscosity of quark matter in presence of a strong uniform magnetic field background where Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model has been considered to describe the magneto-thermodynamical properties of the medium. In presence of magnetic field, shear viscosity coefficient gets split into different components because of anisotropy in tangential stress of the fluid. Four different components can be merged to two components in limit of strong field, where collisional width of quark becomes much lower than its synchrotron frequency. A simplified contact diagram of quark-quark interac…
We have estimated the susceptibilities of conserved charges for 2-flavor strongly interacting matter with varying system sizes, using the Polyakov loop enhanced Nambu Jona-Lasinio model. The susceptibilities for vanishing baryon densities are found to show a scaling with the system volume in the hadronic as well as partonic phase. This scaling breaks down for a temperature range of about 30-50 MeV around the cross-over region. Simultaneous measurements of the various susceptibilities may thus indicate how close to the cross-over region the freeze-out occurs for the fireball created in heavy-io…
It is shown that in the one-flavour NJL model the vector and axial-vector quasiparticles described by the antisymmetric tensor field are generated. These excitations have tensor interactions with quarks in contrast to usual vector ones. Phenomenological applications are discussed.
We investigate the phase diagram on temperature-chemical potential plane in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with the dimensional regularization. While the structure of the resulting diagram shows resemblance to the one in the frequently used cutoff regularization, some results of our study indicate striking difference between these regularizations. The diagram in the dimensional regularization exhibits strong tendency of the first order phase transition.
The decay width of the process eta -> pi^0 gamma gamma is calculated in the framework of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. The momentum dependence of quark loops is taken into account. Three types of diagrams are considered: quark box, scalar(a0) and vector(rho, omega) pole diagrams. The obtained estimations are in satisfactory agreement with recent experimental data.
In this work we study the electrized quark matter under finite temperature and density conditions in the context of the SU(2) and SU(3) Nambu--Jona-Lasinio models. To this end, we evaluate the effective quark masses and the Schwinger quark-antiquark pair production rate. For the SU(3) NJL model we incorporate in the Lagrangian the 't Hooft determinant and we present a set of analytical expressions more convenient for numerical evaluations. We predict a decrease of the pseudocritical electric field with the increase of the temperature for both models and a more prominent production rate for the…
The real-time formalism at finite temperature and chemical potential for the nonlocal Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model is developed in the presence of a Gaussian covariant regulator. We construct the most general thermal propagator, by means of the spectral function. As a result, the model involves the propagation of massive quasiparticles. The appearance of complex poles is interpreted as a confinement signal, and in this case we have unstable quasiparticles with a finite decay width. An expression for the propagator along the critical line, where complex poles start to appear, is also obtained. A g…
