$\mathrm{Mn}_3\mathrm{X}$ compounds in which the magnetic $\mathrm{Mn}$ atoms form AB-stacked kagome lattices have received a tremendous amount of attention since the observation of the anomalous Hall effect in $\mathrm{Mn}_3\mathrm{Ge}$ and $\mathrm{Mn}_3\mathrm{Sn}$. Although the magnetic ground state has been known for some time to be an inverse triangular structure with an induced in-plane magnetic moment, there have been several controversies about the minimal magnetic Hamiltonian. We present a general symmetry-based model for these compounds that includes a previously unreported interplane Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, as well as anisotropic exchange interactions. The latter are shown to compete with the single-ion anisotropy which strongly affects the ground state configurations and elementary spin-wave excitations. Finally, we present the calculated elastic and inelastic neutron scattering intensities and point to experimental assessment of the types of magnetic anisotropy in these compounds that may be important.
We study the ground state of a spin-half Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the stacked kagome lattice by using a spin-rotation-invariant Green's-function method. Since the pure two-dimensional kagome antiferromagnet is most likely a magnetically disordered quantum spin liquid, we investigate the question whether the coupling of kagome layers in a stacked three-dimensional system may lead to a magnetically ordered ground state. We present spin-spin correlation functions and correlation lengths. For comparison we apply also linear spin wave theory. Our results provide strong evidence that the system…
We consider the thermodynamic properties of the quasi-two-dimensional spin-half Heisenberg ferromagnet on the stacked square and the stacked kagomé lattices by using the spin-rotation-invariant Green's function method. We calculate the critical temperature $T_C$, the uniform static susceptibility $χ$, the correlation lengths $ξ_ν$ and the magnetization $M$ and investigate the short-range order above $T_C$. We find that $T_C$ and $M$ at $T>0$ are smaller for the stacked kagomé lattice which we attribute to frustration effects becoming relevant at finite temperatures.
We present the results of an extensive study of the phase diagram and spin wave excitations for a general spin model on a hexagonal AB-stacked kagome system. The boundaries of the magnetic phases are determined via a combination of numerical (Monte Carlo) and analytical (Luttinger-Tisza) methods. We also determine the phase coexistence regions by considering the instabilities in the spin wave spectra. Depending on the strength of the spin-orbit coupling (SOC), some spin and lattice rotations become decoupled, leading to considerably larger symmetry groups than typical magnetic groups. Thus, we…
The electronic state in layered cobalt oxides with hexagonal structure is examined. We find that the electronic structure reflects the nature of the Kagomé lattice hidden in the CoO_2 layer which consists of stacked triangular lattices of oxygen ions and of cobalt ions. A fundamental model for the electron system is proposed and the mechanism of the unique transport and magnetic properties of the cobalt oxides are discussed in the light of the model.
Properties of thin films of geometrically frustrated ABC stacked antiferromagnetic kagome layers are examined using Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations. The impact of having an easy-axis anisotropy on the surface layers and cubic anisotropy in the interior layers is explored. The spin structure at the surface is shown to be different from that of the bulk 3D fcc system, where surface axial anisotropy tends to align spins along the surface [111] normal axis. This alignment tendency then propagates only weakly to the interior layers through exchange coupling. Results are shown for the specific he…
$S$ = 1/2 Ising kagome antiferromagnets (KAFs) are rare in reality. In this work, we report the magnetic ground state and field-induced transitions of an $S$ = 1/2 Ising antiferromagnet with a stacked kagome geometry, Na$_5$Co$_{15.5}$Te$_6$O$_{36}$. Upon cooling, magnetic susceptibility measurement reveals three successive magnetic transitions at $T_1$ = 45.2 K, $T_2$ = 35.4 K, and $T_3 \sim$ 20 K. When the magnetic field is applied along the Ising $c$ axis, a strikingly anomalous initial magnetization lying outside the hysteresis loop is observed below $T_3$. Through the detailed characteriz…
We report $^{121}$Sb nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements on kagome superconductor CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ with $T_{\rm c}=2.5$ K. $^{121}$Sb NQR spectra split after a charge density wave (CDW) transition at $94$ K, which demonstrates a commensurate CDW state. The coexistence of the high temperature phase and the CDW phase between $91$ K and $94$ K manifests that it is a first order phase transition. The CDW order exhibits Tri-Hexagonal deformation with a lateral shift between the adjacent kagome layers, which is consistent with $2 \times 2 \times 2$ superlattice modulation. The superconducti…
The magnetic properties of Cs$_2$Cu$_3$CeF$_{12}$ were investigated through magnetization and specific heat measurements. Cs$_2$Cu$_3$CeF$_{12}$ is composed of a buckled kagome lattice of Cu$^{2+}$, which is stacked along the b axis. The exchange network in the buckled kagome lattice is strongly anisotropic. Consequently, Cs$_2$Cu$_3$CeF$_{12}$ can be divided into two subsystems: alternating Heisenberg chains with strong antiferromagnetic exchange interactions and dangling spins. The dangling spins couple with one another via effective exchange interactions, which are mediated by chain spins. …
Hexagonal Kagome lattice is a multiband system with a quadratic band crossing point, in contrast with honeycomb lattice with linear band crossing point, which has exotic correlated effect and can produce various novel quantum states. Here we investigate the phase diagram of the fermions on the hexagonal Kagome lattice as a function of interaction, temperature and lattice anisotropy, by combining the cellular dynamical mean-field theory with the continuous time quantum Monte Carlo method. For weak interaction, the quadratic band-crossing point is broken to linear band crossing point and the sys…
Weyl nodes have been experimentally realized in photonic, electronic, and phononic crystals. However, magnonic Weyl nodes are yet to be seen experimentally. In this paper, we propose Weyl magnon nodes in noncoplanar stacked frustrated kagome antiferromagnets, naturally available in various real materials. Most crucially, the Weyl nodes in the current system occur at the lowest excitation and possess a topological (anomalous) thermal Hall effect, therefore they are experimentally accessible at low temperatures due to the population effect of bosonic quasiparticles. In stark contrast to other ma…
We show that unconventional boundary phenomena occur in the $3Q$ charge bond orders on the hexagonal lattices. At the Van Hove singularity with three nesting momenta, $3Q$ orders can trigger a $\text{C}_6$-symmetric insulator under bond modulations. On the kagome lattice, in-gap corner states appear in the energy spectrum and carry fractional corner charge $-2e/3$. Such corner phenomena originate from the corner filling anomaly and indicate a higher-order topological insulator. The in-gap corner states are also observed on the triangular lattice. The honeycomb lattice does not support fraction…
The recently discovered layered kagome metals AV$_3$Sb$_5$(A=K, Rb, Cs) have attracted much attention because of their unique combination of superconductivity, charge density wave (CDW) order, and nontrivial band topology. The CDW order with an in-plane 2x2 reconstruction is found to exhibit exotic properties, such as time-reversal symmetry breaking and rotational symmetry breaking. However, the nature of the CDW, including its dimensionality, structural pattern, and effect on electronic structure, remains elusive despite intense research efforts. Here, using angle-resolved photoemission spect…
We investigate how the real and imaginary charge density waves interplay at the Van Hove singularity on the hexagonal lattices. A phenomenological analysis indicates the formation of $3Q$ complex orders at all three nesting momenta. Under a total phase condition, unequal phases at the three momenta break the rotation symmetry generally. The $3Q$ complex orders constitute a rich Haldane-model phase diagram. When effective time-reversal symmetries arise under 1-site translations, the Dirac semimetals are protected. The breakdown of these symmetries gaps the Dirac points and leads to the trivial …
I search for the ground state structures of the kagome metals KV$_3$Sb$_5$, RbV$_3$Sb$_5$, and CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ using first principles calculations. Group-theoretical analysis shows that there are seventeen different distortions that are possible due to the phonon instabilities at the $M$ $(\frac{1}{2},0,0)$ and $L$ $(\frac{1}{2},0,\frac{1}{2})$ points in the Brilouin zone of the parent $P6/mmm$ phase of these materials. I generated these structures for the three compounds and performed full structural relaxations that minimize the atomic forces and lattice stresses. I find that the $Fmmm$ phase …
The coupled spin tube system, which is equivalent to a stacked Kagome-triangular spin system, exhibits the cuboc order -- a non-coplanar spin order with a twelve-sublattice structure accompanying spontaneous breaking of the translational symmetry -- in the Kagome-triangular plane. On the basis of the spin-wave theory, we analyze spin-wave excitations of the planar Kagome-triangular spin system, where the geometric phase characteristic to the cuboc spin structure emerges. We further investigate spin-wave excitations and dynamical spin structure factors for the coupled spin tubes, assuming the s…
Ce$_{3}$Al is an archetypal heavy-fermion compound with multiple crystalline phases. Here, we try to investigate its electronic structures in the hexagonal phase ($α$-Ce$_{3}$Al) and cubic phase ($β$-Ce$_{3}$Al) by means of a combination of density functional theory and single-site dynamical mean-field theory. We confirm that the 4$f$ valence electrons in both phases are itinerant, accompanied with strong valence state fluctuations. Their 4$f$ band structures are heavily renormalized by electronic correlations, resulting in large effective electron masses. The Kondo screening in Ce$_{3}$Al wou…
We have experimentally identified a new magnetic ground state for the kagome lattice, in the perfectly hexagonal Fe2+ (3d6, S = 2) compound Fe4Si2Sn7O16. Representational symmetry analysis of neutron diffraction data shows that below T_N = 3.5 K, the spins on 2/3 of the magnetic ions order into canted antiferromagnetic chains, separated by the remaining 1/3 which are geometrically frustrated and show no long-range order down to at least T = 0.1 K. Moessbauer spectroscopy confirms that there is no static order on the latter 1/3 of the magnetic ions - i.e., they are in a liquid-like rather than …
We construct a field-theoretic description of spin waves in hexagonal antiferromagnets with three magnetic sublattices and coplanar $120^\circ$ magnetic order. The three Goldstone modes can be separated by point-group symmetry into a singlet $α_{0}$ and a doublet $(β_x,β_y)$. The $α_0$ singlet is described by the standard theory of a free relativistic scalar field. The field theory of the $(β_x,β_y)$ doublet is analogous to the theory of elasticity of a two-dimensional isotropic solid with distinct longitudinal and transverse "speeds of sound". The well-known Heisenberg models on the triangula…
We have synthesized YbPdAs with the hexagonal ZrNiAl-type structure, in which the Yb-atoms form a distorted kagome sublattice in the hexagonal basal plane. Magnetic, transport, and thermodynamic measurements indicate that YbPdAs is a low-carrier Kondo lattice compound with an antiferromagnetic transition at $T_\mathrm{N}$ = 6.6 K, which is slightly suppressed in applied magnetic fields up to 9 T. The magnetic entropy at $T_\mathrm{N}$ recovers only 33\% of $R\ln{2}$, the full entropy of the ground state doublet of the Yb-ions. The resistivity displays a $-\ln T$ dependence between 30 and 15 K,…
Hexagonal antiferromagnets Cs$_2$Cu$_3$MF$_{12}$ (M = Zr, Hf and Sn) have uniform Kagome lattices of Cu$^{2+}$ with S = 1/2, whereas Rb$_2$Cu$_3$SnF$_{12}$ has a 2a by 2a enlarged cell as compared with the uniform Kagome lattice. The crystal data of Cs$_2$Cu$_3$SnF$_{12}$ synthesized first in the present work are reported. We performed magnetic susceptibility measurements on this family of Kagome antiferromagnet using single crystals. In the Cs$_2$Cu$_3$MF$_{12}$ systems, structural phase transitions were observed at $T_t = 225$ K, 172 K and 185 K for M = Zr, Hf and Sn, respectively. The magne…
Kagome magnets provide a fascinating platform for a plethora of topological quantum phenomena. Here, utilizing angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we demonstrate Weyl lines with strong out-of-plane dispersion in an A-A stacked kagome magnet TbxGd1-xMn6Sn6. On the Gd rich side, the Weyl line remains nearly spin-orbit-gapless due to a remarkable cooperative interplay between Kane-Mele spin-orbit-coupling, low site symmetry and in-plane magnetic order. Under Tb substitution, the kagome Weyl line gaps due to a magnetic reorientation to out-of-plane order. Our results illustrate the magnetic…
While the existence of a spin-liquid ground state of the spin-1/2 kagome Heisenberg antiferromagnet (KHAF) is well established, the discussion of the effect of an interlayer coupling (ILC) by controlled theoretical approaches is still lacking. Here we study this problem by using the coupled-cluster method to high orders of approximation. We consider a stacked KHAF with a perpendicular ILC $J_\perp$, where we study ferro- as well as antiferromagnetic $J_\perp$. We find that the spin-liquid ground state (GS) persists until relatively large strengths of the ILC. Only if the strength of the ILC ex…
Motivated by recent experimental work on FeCrAs, we study the magnetic properties of classical spin models on the hexagonal Fe$_2$P/ZrNiAl structure (space group $P{\bar{6}}2m$). When both transition metal/rare earth sites carry magnetic moments, one has alternating distorted kagome and triangular lattice layers. Each point of the triangular lattice lies at the centre of a distorted hexagon and actually corresponds to three isolated magnetic atoms: a "trimer". We show that a simple model consisting of antiferromagnetically correlated Heisenberg spins on the frustrated distorted kagome lattice …
Materials hosting kagome lattices have drawn interest for the diverse magnetic and electronic states generated by geometric frustration. In the $A$V$_3$Sb$_5$ compounds ($A$ = K, Rb, Cs), stacked vanadium kagome layers give rise to unusual charge density waves (CDW) and superconductivity. Here we report single-crystal growth and characterization of ScV$_6$Sn$_6$, a hexagonal HfFe$_6$Ge$_6$-type compound that shares this structural motif. We identify a first-order phase transition at 92 K. Single crystal X-ray and neutron diffraction reveal a charge density wave modulation of the atomic lattice…
Spin wave calculations demonstrate that the macroscopic continuous degeneracy associated with the two-dimensional kagome Heisenberg spin lattice persists in the case of the stacked fcc structure giving rise to zero energy modes in three dimensions. The addition of an effective local cubic anisotropy is shown to remove this continuous degeneracy and introduce a gap in the spectrum as well as modify the inelastic scattering function $S({\bf q},ω)$. This scenario supports earlier Monte Carlo simulations which indicate that the phase transition to long range $q=0$ magnetic order is driven to be di…
Structural and magnetic properties of the geometrically frustrated layered compound YBaCo4O7 have been studied by magnetization and neutron diffraction. A layered type crystal structure, with alternating tetrahedral layers of Kagomé and triangular types, along the c axis (hexagonal symmetry, space group P63mc) has been found. The oxygen content of the present compound was determined by iodometric titration to be 7.00{\pm}0.01. Presence of a short-range antiferromagnetic ordering (below TN ~ 110 K) has been concluded from the appearance of an addition broad magnetic peak (at Q ~ 1.35 Å-1) in th…
Exchange interactions up to fourth nearest neighbor are shown within a classical local-moment Heisenberg approach to be important to model inelastic neutron scattering data on the fcc kagome antiferromagnet IrMn$_3$. Spin wave frequencies are calculated using the torque equation and the magnetic scattering function, $S({\bf Q},ω)$, is determined by a Green's function method, as an extension of our previous work, LeBlanc et al, Phys. Rev. B 90, 144403 (2014). Results are compared with intensity contour data on powder samples of ordered IrMn$_3$, where magnetic Mn ions occupy lattice sites of AB…
Tight-binding model of the AA-stacked bilayer graphene with screened electron-electron interactions has been studied using the Hybrid Monte Carlo simulations on the original double-layer hexagonal lattice. Instantaneous screened Coulomb potential is taken into account using Hubbard-Stratonovich transformation. G-type antiferromagnetic ordering has been studied and the phase transition with spontaneous generation of the mass gap has been observed. Dependence of the antiferromagnetic condensate on the on-site electron-electron interaction is examined.
Twisted van der Waals heterostructures have recently been proposed as a condensed-matter platform for realizing controllable quantum models due to the low-energy moiré bands with specific charge distributions in moiré superlattices. Here, combining angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy with sub-micron spatial resolution (μ-ARPES) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we performed a systematic investigation on the electronic structure of 5.1° twisted bilayer WSe2 that hosts correlated insulating and zero-resistance states. Interestingly, contrary to one's expectation, moiré bands were ob…

Monte Carlo simulation results are reported on magnetic ordering in ABC stacked Kagomé layers with fcc symmetry for both XY and Heisenberg models which include exchange interactions with the eight near-neighbors. Well known degeneracies of the 2D system persist in the 3D case and analysis of the numerical data provides strong evidence for a fluctuation-driven first-order transition to well-defined long-range order characterized as the layered $q=0$ (120-degree) spin structure. Effects of varying the inter-layer coupling are also examined. The results are relevant to understanding the role of f…
Co3V2O8 is an orthorhombic magnet in which S=3/2 magnetic moments reside on two crystallographically inequivalent Co2+ sites, which decorate a stacked, buckled version of the two dimensional kagome lattice, the stacked kagome staircase. The magnetic interactions between the Co2+ moments in this structure lead to a complex magnetic phase diagram at low temperature, wherein it exhibits a series of five transitions below 11 K that ultimately culminate in a simple ferromagnetic ground state below T~6.2 K. Here we report magnetization measurements on single and polycrystalline samples of (Co(1-x)Mg…
We synthesized single crystals of the new hexagonal compounds A$_2$Cu$_3$SnF$_{12}$ with A=Cs and Rb, and investigated their magnetic properties. These compounds are composed of Kagomé layers of corner-sharing CuF$_6$-octahedra. Cs$_2$Cu$_3$SnF$_{12}$ has the proper Kagomé layer at room temperature, and undergoes structural phase transition at $T_\mathrm{t}\simeq 185$ K. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility in Cs$_2$Cu$_3$SnF$_{12}$ agrees well with the result of the numerical calculation for $S=1/2$ two-dimensional Heisenberg Kagomé antiferromagnet down to $T_\mathrm{t}$ …
We have employed a magnetic field angle as a tuning parameter in a comprehensive measurement of the specific heat, magnetocaloric effect, and magnetization for the quasi-kagome Kondo lattice CeRhSn, which is considered to exhibit zero-field quantum criticality driven by geometrical frustration. By constructing the field-angle-resolved landscape of the entropy, we unexpectedly revealed that the non-Fermi-liquid nature survives up to a metamagnetic crossover field of roughly 3 T in the very narrow field-orientation range, close to the direction parallel to the quasi-kagome plane. We propose that…
Exploration of rare-earth (RE)-based Kagome lattice magnets with spin-orbital entangled jeff=1/2 moments will provide new platform for investigating the exotic magnetic phases. Here, we report a new family of RE3BWO9 (RE=Pr,Nd,Gd-Ho) boratotungstates with magnetic RE3+ ions arranged on Kagome lattice, and perform its structure and magnetic characterizations. This serial compounds crystallize in hexagonal coordinated structure with space group P63 (No.173), where magnetic RE3+ ions have distorted Kagomé lattice connections within the ab plane and stacked in a AB-type fashion along c axis. The i…
The spin-1/2 quantum antiferromagnet on the Kagome lattice provides a quintessential example in the strongly correlated electron physics where both effects of geometric frustration and quantum fluctuation are pushed to their limit. Among possible non-magnetic ground states, the valence bond solid (VBS) with a 36-site unit cell is one of the most promising candidates. A natural theoretical framework for the analysis of such VBS order is to consider quantum states on a bond connecting the nearest-neighboring sites as fundamental quantum modes of the system and treat them as effectively independe…
We perform a symmetry analysis of the ABC-stacked kagome planes of Mn atoms common to the $L1_2$ Mn$_3$X and antiperovskite Mn$_3$AB alloys. In addition to the single-ion-anisotropy and Kitaev-type anisotropic exchange known to stabilize 120° spin structures in these materials, our analysis results in a staggered Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and further gamma-type anisotropic exchange between nearest-neighbor spins. The presence of these new terms is shown not to affect the energetics of the 120° ground-states which explains their absence in prior minimal magnetic models. We go on to show…
The kagome superconductors KV$_3$Sb$_5$, RbV$_3$Sb$_5$, and CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ are known to display charge density wave (CDW) order which impacts the topological characteristics of their electronic structure. Details of their structural ground states and how they evolve with temperature are revealed here using single crystal X-ray crystallographic refinements as a function of temperature, carried out with synchrotron radiation. The compounds KV$_3$Sb$_5$ and RbV$_3$Sb$_5$ present 2$\times$2$\times$2 superstructures in the $Fmmm$ space group with a staggered tri-hexagonal deformation of vanadium lay…
In this paper we report the latest results of exact diagonalizations of SU(2) invariant models on various lattices (square, triangular, hexagonal, checkerboard and kagome lattices). We focus on the low lying levels in each S sector. The differences in behavior between gapless systems and gapped ones are exhibited. The plausibility of a gapless spin liquid in the Heisenberg model on the kagome lattice is discussed. A rough estimate of the spin susceptibility in such an hypothesis is given. The evolution of the intra-S channel spectra under the effect of a small perturbation is consistent with th…
Motivated by a previous "$sd^2$-graphene" study, the pairing symmetry in the superconducting state and the thermal Hall conductivity are investigated by a self-consistent Bogoliubov--de Gennes approach on the kagome lattice with intrinsic spin-orbit coupling near van Hove fillings. While the topologically trivial state with broken time-reversal symmetry appears in the absence of spin-orbit coupling, the highest flat band becomes dispersive with a hexagonal symmetry due to spin-orbit coupling, which leads to a topological superconducting state. Since the thermal Hall conductivity in the low-tem…
Hexagonal lattice systems (e.g. triangular, honeycomb, kagome) possess a multidimensional irreducible representation corresponding to $d_{x^2-y^2}$ and $d_{xy}$ symmetry. Consequently, various unconventional phases that combine these $d$-wave representations can occur, and in so doing may break time-reversal and spin rotation symmetries. We show that hexagonal lattice systems with extended repulsive interactions can exhibit instabilities in the particle-hole channel to phases with either $d_{x^2-y^2}+d_{xy}$ or $d+id$ symmetry. When lattice translational symmetry is preserved, the phase corres…
The candidate magnetoelectric Pb3Mn7O15 has a structure consisting of 1/3 filled Kagome layers linked by ribbons of edge-sharing octahedra in the stacking direction. Previous reports have indicated a complex hexagonal-orthorhombic structural transition upon cooling to room temperature, although its origins are uncertain. Here both structures are revisited using a combination of neutron and synchrotron X-ray diffraction data. Large shifts of oxygen positions are detected which show that the interlayer sites and those which occupy voids in the kagome lattice are trivially charge ordered in both …
The spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ kagome antiferromagnet is considered an ideal host for a quantum spin liquid ground state. We find that when the bonds of the kagome lattice are modulated with a periodic pattern, new quantum ground states emerge. Newly synthesized crystalline barlowite (Cu$_4$(OH)$_6$FBr) and Zn-substituted barlowite demonstrate the delicate interplay between singlet states and spin order on the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ kagome lattice. Comprehensive structural measurements demonstrate that our new variant of barlowite maintains hexagonal symmetry at low temperatures with an arrangement of dis…
The Hubbard model on the kagome lattice is presently often considered as a minimal model to describe the rich low-temperature behavior of AV$_{3}$Sb$_{5}$ compounds (with A=K, Rb, Cs), including charge-density waves (CDWs), superconductivity, and possibly broken time-reversal symmetry. Here, we investigate, via variational Jastrow-Slater wave functions, the properties of its ground state when both onsite $U$ and nearest-neighbor $V$ Coulomb repulsions are considered at the van Hove filling. Our calculations reveal the presence of different interaction-driven CDWs and, contrary to previous reno…
The $S=1$ antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a Kagome lattice is studied using the density-matrix renormalization group method. To identify the ground state, we take four kinds of clusters into account; periodic, cylindrical, and two open ones. The hexagonal singlet solid (HSS) and triangular valence bond solid (TVBS) states are artificially generated by modulating edge shapes of the open clusters. We find that the energy par sites of the HSS state is $e_0=E_0/N =-1.41095$, which is readily lower than that of the TVBS state ($e_0=-1.3912 \pm 0.0025$). This agrees well with those of the cyli…
Antiferromagnetic manganese-based nitride antiperovskites, such as Mn$_3$NiN, hold a triangular frustrated magnetic ordering over their kagome lattice formed by the Mn atoms along the (111)-plane. As such, frustration imposes a non-trivial interplay between the symmetric and asymmetric magnetic interactions, which can only reach equilibrium in a noncollinear magnetic configuration. Consequently, the associated electronic interactions and their possible tuning by external constraints, such as applied epitaxial strain, play a crucial role in defining the microscopic and macroscopic properties of…
We report the structure and physical properties of two newly-discovered compounds AV8Sb12 and AV6Sb6 (A = Cs, Rb), which have C2 (space group: Cmmm) and C3 (space group: R-3m) symmetry, respectively. The basic V-kagome unit is present in both compounds, but stacking differently. A V2Sb2 layer is sandwiched between two V3Sb5 layers in AV8Sb12, altering the V-kagome lattice and lowering the symmetry of kagome layer from hexagonal to orthorhombic. In AV6Sb6, the building block is a more complex slab made up of two half-V3Sb5 layers that are intercalated by Cs cations along the c-axis. Transport p…
We employ polarization-resolved electronic Raman spectroscopy and density functional theory to study the primary and secondary order parameters, as well as their interplay, in the charge density wave (CDW) state of the kagome metal AV3Sb5. Previous x-ray diffraction data at 15K established that the CDW order in CsV3Sb5 comprises of a 2x2x4 structure: one layer of inverse-star-of-David and three consecutive layers of star-of-David pattern. We analyze the lattice distortions based the 2x2x4 structure at 15K, and find that U lattice distortion is the primary order parameter while M and L distorti…
The existence of a spin-liquid ground state of the $s=1/2$ Heisenberg kagome antiferromagnet (KAFM) is well established. Meanwhile, also for the $s=1$ Heisenberg KAFM evidence for the absence of magnetic long-range order (LRO) was found. Magnetic LRO in Heisenberg KAFMs can emerge by increasing the spin quantum number $s$ to $s>1$ and for $s=1$ by an easy-plane anisotropy. In the present paper we discuss the route to magnetic order in $s=1/2$ KAFMs by including an isotropic interlayer coupling (ILC) $J_\perp$ as well as an easy-plane anisotropy in the kagome layers by using the coupled-cluster…
