An eighth-order equation in (3+1)-dimension is studied for its integrability. Its symmetry group is shown to be infinite-dimensional and is checked for Virasoro like structure. The equation is shown not to have Painlev$\acute{\rm e}$ property. One and two-dimensional classifications of infinite-dimensional symmetry algebra is also given.

We study the symmetry group properties of the variable coefficient Davey-Stewartson (vcDS) system. The Lie point symmetry algebra with a Kac-Moody-Virasoro (KMV) structure is shown to be isomorphic to that of the usual (constant coefficient) DS system if and only if the coefficients satisfy some conditions. These conditions turn out to coincide with those for the vcDS system to be transformable to the DS system by a point transformation. For each Drinfeld-Sokolov integrable hierarchy associated to affine Kac-Moody algebra, we obtain a uniform construction of tau function by using tau-symmetric Hamiltonian densities, moreover, we represent its Virasoro symmetries as linear/nonlinear actions on the tau function. We construct a tau cover of the generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy associated to an arbitrary affine Kac-Moody algebra with gradations $\mathrm{s}\le\mathds{1}$ and derive its Virasoro symmetries. By imposing the Virasoro constraints we obtain solutions of the Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy of Witten-Kontsevich and of Brezin-Gross-Witten types, and of those characterized by certain ordinary differential equations of Painlevé type. We discuss Lie algebras of the Lie symmetry groups of two generically non-integrable equations in one temporal and two space dimensions arising in different contexts. The first is a generalization of the KP equation and contains 9 arbitrary functions of one and two arguments. The second one is a system of PDEs that depend on some physical parameters. We require that these PDEs are invariant under a Kac-Moody-Virasoro algebra. This leads to several limitations on the coefficients (either functions or parameters) under which equations are prime candidates for being integrable.

The structure of the algebra turns out to be Kac-Moody-Virasoro one, which is typical for integrable evolution equations in $2+1$-dimensions. Symmetry group transformations are constructed using a direct (global) approach. They are split into both connected and discrete ones. Several exact solutions are obtained as an application of the symmetry properties.
We describe an infinite-dimensional algebra of hidden symmetries for the self-dual gravity equations. Besides the known diffeomorphism-type symmetries (affine extension of w(infinity) algebra), this algebra contains new hidden symmetries, which are an affine extension of the Lorentz rotations. The full symmetry algebra has both Kac-Moody and Virasoro-like generators, whose exponentiation maps solutions of the field equations to other solutions. Relations to problems of string theories are briefly discussed.

In the paper we continue to consider symmetries related to the Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy. We derive symmetries for the integrable discrete nonlinear Schrödinger hierarchy and discrete AKNS hierarchy. The integrable discrete nonlinear Schrödinger hierarchy are in scalar form and its two sets of symmetries are shown to form a Lie algebra.
