On the basis of comparing eigenvalues of an operator ${\hat {\mathbf{\cal C}}}{}^{({\cal R})}$, that proved useful in distinguishing how off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 supermultiplets become off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ = 2 supermultiplets, the double tensor supermultiplet is shown to be radically different for other known multiplets. This suggests difficulties, if not impossibilities, to embed it into an off-shell structure.
We construct a new off-shell $\mathcal{N}{=}8$, $d{=}1$ nonlinear supermultiplet $(\mathbf{4,8,4})$ proceeding from the nonlinear realization of the $\mathcal{N}{=}8$, $d{=}1$ superconformal group $OSp(4^{\star}|4)$ in its supercoset $\frac{OSp(4^{\star}|4)}{SU(2)_{\mathcal{R}}\otimes \left\{D,K\right\} \otimes SO(4)}$. The irreducibility constraints for the superfields automatically follow from appropriate covariant conditions on the $osp(4^{\star}|4)$-valued Cartan superforms. We present the most general sigma-model type action for $(\mathbf{4,8,4})$ supermultiplet. The relations between lin…
We continue the search for rules that govern when off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 supermultiplets can be combined to form off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ = 2 supermultiplets. We study the ${\mathbb S}_8$ permutations and Height Yielding Matrix Numbers (HYMN) embedded within the adinkras that correspond to these putative 4D, $\cal N$ = 2 supermultiplets off-shell supermultiplets. Even though the HYMN definition was designed to distinguish between the raising and lowering of nodes in one dimensional valises supermultiplets, they are shown to accurately select out which combinations of off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ =…
We propose an explicit mathematical construction and plausibility arguments for how spacetime chirality and Lorentz generators emerge for minimal, off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 supermultiplets by use of a 4.4.4.4 tesselation of Riemann surfaces based on plaquettes originating from Coxeter Group BC${}_4$ adinkras.
We present arguments to support the existence of weight spaces for supersymmetric field theories and identify the calculations of information about supermultiplets to define such spaces via the concept of "holoraumy." For the first time this is extended to the complex linear supermultiplet by a calculation of the commutator of supercovariant derivatives on all of its component fields.
We study $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity at finite temperature coupled to matter. The matter fields are related to superconformal primaries by AdS/CFT duality. Due to broken super reparametrisation invariance in the SCFT dual, there are corrections to superconformal correlators. These are generated by the exchange of super-Schwarzian modes which is dual to the exchange of 2D supergravity modes. We compute corrections to four-point functions for superconformal primaries and analyse the behaviour of out-of-time-ordered correlators. In particular, four-point function…
We show that the nonlinear chiral supermultiplet allows one to construct, over given two-dimensional bosonic mechanics, the family of two-dimensional ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric mechanics parameterized with the holomorphic function $λ(z)$. We show, that this family includes, as a particular case, the ${\cal N}=4$ superextensions of two-dimensional mechanics with magnetic fields, which have factorizable Schroedinger equations.
Starting from three minimal off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 supermultiplets, using constructions solely defined within the confines of the four dimensional field theory we show the existence of a "gadget" - a member of a class of metrics on the representation space of the supermultiplets - whose values directly and completely correspond to the values of a metric defined on the 1d, $N$ = 4 adinkra networks adjacency matrices corresponding to the projections of the four dimensional supermultiplets.
Recently N. Berkovits, motivated by the supertwistor description of ${\cal N}=4 D=4$ super Yang-Mills, considered the generalization of the ${\cal N}=1 D=4$ $θ$-twistor construction to D=10 and applied it for a compact covariant description of ${\cal N}=1 D=10$ super Yang-Mills. This supports the relevance of the $θ$-twistor as a supersymmetric twistor alternative to the well-known supertwistor. The minimal breaking of superconformal symmetry is an inherent property of the $θ$-twistor received from its fermionic components, described by a Grassmannian vector instead of a Grassmannian scalar in…
Starting from an Abelian ${\cal N}=1$ vector supermultiplet $V$ coupled to conformal supergravity, we construct from it a nilpotent real scalar Goldstino superfield $\mathfrak V$ of the type proposed in arXiv:1702.02423. It contains only two independent component fields, the Goldstino and the auxiliary $D$-field. The important properties of this Goldstino superfield are: (i) it is gauge invariant; and (ii) it is super-Weyl invariant. As a result, the gauge prepotential can be represented as $V={\cal V} +\mathfrak V$, where $\cal V$ contains only one independent component field, modulo gauge de…
A multiplet calculus is presented for an arbitrary number n of N=2 tensor supermultiplets. For rigid supersymmetry the known couplings are reproduced. In the superconformal case the target spaces parametrized by the scalar fields are cones over (3n-1)-dimensional spaces encoded in homogeneous SU(2) invariant potentials, subject to certain constraints. The coupling to conformal supergravity enables the derivation of a large class of supergravity Lagrangians with vector and tensor multiplets and hypermultiplets. Dualizing the tensor fields into scalars leads to hypermultiplets with hyperkahler o…
Realization of the conformal higher spin symmetry on the 4d massless field supermultiplets is given. The self-conjugated supermultiplets, including the linearized ${\cal N}=4$ SYM theory, are considered in some detail. Duality between non-unitary field-theoretical representations and the unitary doubleton--type representations of the 4d conformal algebra $su(2,2)$ is formulated in terms of a Bogolyubov transform. The set of 4d massless fields of all spins is shown to form a representation of $sp(8)$. The obtained results are extended to the generalized superspace invariant under $osp(L, 2M)$ s…
This paper investigates the d = 4, N = 4 Abelian, global Super-Yang Mills system (SUSY-YM). It is shown how the N = 2 Fayet Hypermultiplet (FH) and N = 2 vector multiplet (VM) are embedded within. The central charges provide a plethora of information as to further symmetries of the Lagrangian. Several of these symmetries are calculated to second order. It is hoped that investigations such as these may yield avenues to help solve the auxiliary field closure problem for d = 4, N = 4, SUSY-YM and the d = 4, N = 2 Fayet-Hypermultiplet, without using an infinite number of auxiliary fields.
We revisit the calculation of instanton effects in correlation functions in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM involving the Konishi operator and operators of twist two. Previous studies revealed that the scaling dimensions and the OPE coefficients of these operators do not receive instanton corrections in the semiclassical approximation. We go beyond this approximation and demonstrate that, while operators belonging to the same ${\cal N}=4$ supermultiplet ought to have the same conformal data, the evaluation of quantum instanton corrections for one operator can be mapped into a semiclassical computation for an…
We construct models of coupled semi-dynamical (spin) and dynamical mirror multiplets of ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric mechanics in $d=1$ harmonic superspace. Specifically, we consider a semi-dynamical mirror multiplet ${\bf (3,4,1)}$ coupled to dynamical mirror multiplets ${\bf (1, 4, 3)}$ and ${\bf (2, 4, 2)}$. Coupling of the multiplets ${\bf (3, 4, 1)}$ and ${\bf (1, 4, 3)}$ yields a mirror counterpart of the earlier constructed model implying the Nahm equations for the spin variables with the bosonic component of the multiplet ${\bf (1, 4, 3)}$ as an evolution parameter. We also couple the m…
We describe four different types of the ${\cal N} = (4,4)$ twisted supermultiplets in two-dimensional ${\cal N} = (2,2)$ superspace ${\bf R}^{1,1|2,2}$. All these multiplets are presented by a pair of chiral and twisted chiral superfields and differ in the transformation properties under an extra hidden ${\cal N} = (2,2)$ supersymmetry. The sigma model ${\cal N} = (2,2)$ superfield Lagrangians for each type of the ${\cal N} = (4,4)$ twisted supermultiplets are real functions subjected to some differential constraints implied by the hidden supersymmetry. We prove that the general sigma model ac…
This thesis presents the general structure of non-conformal higher-spin supercurrent multiplets in three and four spacetime dimensions. Such supercurrents are in one-to-one correspondence with off-shell massless higher-spin gauge supermultiplets, some of which are constructed in this thesis for the first time. In the first part of the thesis, we propose a new off-shell formulation for a massless integer superspin multiplet, whose gauge-invariant action involves an unconstrained complex superconformal prepotential, in conjunction with two types of compensators. Next, we deduce the structure of …
Supergravity with eight supercharges in a four-dimensional Euclidean space is constructed at the full non-linear level by performing an off-shell time-like reduction of five-dimensional supergravity. The resulting four-dimensional theory is realized off-shell with the Weyl, vector and tensor supermultiplets and a corresponding multiplet calculus. Hypermultiplets are included as well, but they are themselves only realized with on-shell supersymmetry. The off-shell reduction leads to a full understanding of the Euclidean theory. A complete multiplet calculus is presented along the lines of the M…
We describe several families of primary linear supermultiplets coupled to three-dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ conformal supergravity and use them to construct topological $BF$-type terms. We introduce conformal higher-spin gauge superfields and associate with them Chern-Simons-type actions that are constructed as an extension of the linearised action for ${\cal N}=2$ conformal supergravity. These actions possess gauge and super-Weyl invariance in any conformally flat superspace and involve a higher-spin generalisation of the linearised ${\cal N}=2$ super-Cotton tensor. For massless higher-spin supe…
In three dimensions, it is known that field theories possessing extended $(p,q)$ anti-de Sitter (AdS) supersymmetry with ${\cal N}=p+q \geq 3$ can be realised in (2,0) AdS superspace. Here we present a formalism to reduce every field theory with (2,0) AdS supersymmetry to ${\cal N}=1$ AdS superspace. As nontrivial examples, we consider supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models formulated in terms of ${\cal N}=2$ chiral and linear supermultiplets. The $(2,0) \to (1,0)$ AdS reduction technique is then applied to the off-shell massless higher-spin supermultiplets in (2,0) AdS superspace constructed i…
Infinite-Dimensional Algebraic $\mathfrak{Spin}$($N$) Structure in Extended/Higher Dimensional SUSY Holoraumy for Valise and On-Shell Supermultiplet Representations
At critical values of the scaling dimension $λ$, supermultiplets of the global ${\cal N}$-Extended one-dimensional Supersymmetry algebra induce $D$-module representations of finite superconformal algebras (the latters being identified in terms of the global supermultiplet and its critical scaling dimension). For ${\cal N}=4,8$ and global supermultiplets $(k, {\cal N}, {\cal N}-k)$, the exceptional superalgebras $D(2,1;α)$ are recovered for ${\cal N}=4$, with a relation between $α$ and the scaling dimension given by $α= (2-k)λ$. For ${\cal N}=8$ and $k\neq 4$ all four ${\cal N}=8$ finite superc…
Evidence is presented in some examples that an adinkra quantum number, $χ_{\rm o}$ (arXiv:\ 0902.3830 [hep-th]), seems to play a role with regard to off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ = 2 SUSY similar to the role of color in QCD. The vanishing of this adinkra quantum number appears to be a condition required for when two off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 supermultiplets form an off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ = 2 supermultiplet. We also explicitly comment on a deformation of the Lie bracket and anti-commutator operators that has been extensively and implicitly used in our work on "Garden Algebras" adinkras, and codes.
$Sp(2M)$ invariant field equations in the space ${\cal M}_M$ with symmetric matrix coordinates are classified. Analogous results are obtained for Minkowski-like subspaces of ${\cal M}_M$ which include usual $4d$ Minkowski space as a particular case. The constructed equations are associated with the tensor products of the Fock (singleton) representation of $Sp(2M)$ of any rank ${\mathbf{r }}$. The infinite set of higher-spin conserved currents multilinear in rank-one fields in ${\cal M}_M$ is found. The associated conserved charges are supported by $({\mathbf{r }} M-\frac{\mathbf{r } ({\mathbf{…
We review the construction of the unitary supermultiplets of the ${\cal{N}}=8$ d=5 anti-de Sitter (AdS_5) superalgebra SU(2,2|4), which is the symmetry group of the type IIB superstring theory on $AdS_5 \times S^5$, using the oscillator method.
The minimal (${\cal N}=1$) superparticle in three spacetime dimensions (3D) is quantized. For non-zero mass it describes a spin-1/4 semion supermultiplet of "relativistic helicities" (-1/4, 1/4). The addition of a parity-violating Lorentz-Wess-Zumino term shifts this to $(β-1/4,β+1/4)$ for arbitrary $β$. For zero mass, in which case spin is not defined, the quantum superparticle describes a supermultiplet of one boson and one fermion.
We use world-line methods for pseudo-supersymmetry to construct $sl(2|1)$-invariant actions for the $(2,2,0)$ chiral and ($1,2,1)$ real supermultiplets of the twisted $D$-module representations of the $sl(2|1)$ superalgebra. The derived one-dimensional topological conformal $σ$-models are invariant under nilpotent operators. The actions are constructed for both parabolic and hyperbolic/trigonometric realizations (with extra potential terms in the latter case). The scaling dimension $λ$ of the supermultiplets defines a coupling constant, $2λ+1$, the free theories being recovered at $λ=-\frac{1}…
Recent work on classicication of off-shell representations of N-extended worldline supersymmetry without central charges has uncovered an unexpectedly vast number--trillions of even just (chromo)topology types--of so called adinkraic supermultiplets. Herein, we show by explicit analysis that a long-known but rarely used representation, the complex linear supermultiplet, is not adinkraic, cannot be decomposed locally, but may be reduced by means of a Wess-Zumino type gauge. This then indicates that the already unexpectedly vast number of adinkraic off-shell supersymmetry representations is but …
The $SU(2)$ unitary matrix $U$ employed in hadronic low-energy processes has both exponential and analytic representations, related by $ U = \exp\left[ i \mathbfτ \cdot \hat{\mathbfπ} θ\,\right] = \cosθI + i \mathbfτ \cdot \hat{\mathbfπ} \sinθ$. One extends this result to the $SU(3)$ unitary matrix by deriving an analytic expression which, for Gell-Mann matrices $\mathbfλ$, reads $ U= \exp\left[ i \mathbf{v} \cdot \mathbfλ \right] = \left[ \left( F + \tfrac{2}{3} G \right) I + \left( H \hat{\mathbf{v}} + \tfrac{1}{\sqrt{3}} G \hat{\mathbf{b}} \right) \cdot \mathbfλ \, \right] + i \left[ \left(…
