We investigated the material parameters of several single-layer cuprates, including those with fluorinated buffer layers, with the aim of identifying possible high-temperature superconductors. To evaluate the material parameters, we use the Wannierization techniques and the constrained random phase approximation. The obtained single-band Hubbard models are studied using the fluctuation-exchange approximation. Comparison among several cuprates reveals unknown high-$T_{\text{c}}$ superconductors. In, Ga, Al, and Cd compounds in particular show the potential to exhibit higher-$T_{\text{c}}$ superconductivity than Hg1201.
A parameter-free expression for the superconducting critical temperature of layered cuprates is derived which allows us to express Tc in terms of experimentally measured parameters. It yields Tc values observed in about 30 lanthanum, yttrium and mercury-based samples for different levels of doping. This remarkable agreement with the experiment as well as the unusual critical behaviour and the normal-state gap indicate that many cuprates are close to the Bose-Einstein condensation regime.
We comment on the work by Moler, et al., [Science 279, 1193 (1998)] concerning determination of the c-axis penetration depth in the single-layer compound Tl-2201 through measuring the magnetic flux due to isolated interlayer Josephson vortices.
We experimentally study transport and intrinsic tunneling characteristics of a single-layer cuprate Bi(2+x)Sr(2-y)CuO(6+delta) with a low superconducting critical temperature Tc < 4 K. It is observed that the superconducting energy, critical field and fluctuation temperature range are scaling down with Tc, while the corresponding pseudogap characteristics have the same order of magnitude as for high-Tc cuprates with 20 to 30 times higher Tc. The observed disparity of the superconducting and pseudogap scales clearly reveals their different origins.
Starting from the generalized t-J-G model Hamiltonian, we analyze the spin response in the superconducting cuprates taking into account both local and itinerant spin components which are coupled to each other self-consistently. Derived expression reproduces the basic observations of neutron scattering data in YBa2Cu3O6+y compounds near the optimal doping level.
Although the low frequency electronic Raman response in the superconducting state of the cuprates can be largely understood in terms of a d-wave energy gap, a long standing problem has been an explanation for the spectra observed in the $A_{1g}$ polarization orientations. We present calculations which suggest that the peak position of the observed $A_{1g}$ spectra is due to a collective spin fluctuation mode.
Doped cuprates are inhomogeneous superconductors. The concept of an intrinsic critical temperature, Tcintr.$\equiv$ Tc*, whose value greatly exceeds that for the resistive Tcres.$\equiv$ Tc, is supported by a number of experimental studies, including those performed recently. These data are discussed in this review. The anomalous diamagnetism observed at Tcres.$\equiv$ <T< Tc* is a manifestation of the presence of superconducting clusters embedded into a normal metallic matrix. The value of intrinsic critical temperature in some cuprates reaches a value which is close to room temperature. The …
We study the problem of phase coherence in doped striped cuprates. We assume the stripes to form a network of one-dimensional Luttinger liquids which are dominated by superconducting fluctuations and pinned by impurities. The problem of phase coherence is discussed. We study the dynamics of the superconducting phase using a model of resistively shunted junctions which leads to a Kosterlitz-Thouless transition. We show that our results are consistent with recent experiments in Zn-doped cuprates. We also explain the scaling of the superconducting critical temperature $T_c$ with the incommensurab…
Using a doping-determined multiband model spectrum of a "typical'' cuprate the effective mass of the paired carriers is calculated on the whole doping scale. Large $m_{ab}$ values quench rapidly with leaving the very underdoped region. Further slower diminishing of $m_{ab}$ reproduces the trend towards restoring the Fermi-liquid behaviour in cuprates with progressive doping. The interband superconducting condensate density ($n_s$) shows similar behaviour to the transition temperature and superconducting gaps. The $n_s(0)/m_{ab}$ ratio has an expressed maximum close to optimal doping as also th…
We report on resistivity and Hall measurements in thin films of the electron-doped superconducting cuprate Pr$_{2-x}$Ce$_{x}$CuO$_{4\pmδ}$. Comparisons between x = 0.17 samples subjected to either ion-irradiation or oxygenation demonstrate that changing the oxygen content has two separable effects: 1) a doping effect similar to that of cerium, and 2) a disorder effect. These results are consistent with prior speculations that apical oxygen removal is necessary to achieve superconductivity in this compound.
The oxygen-isotope (^{16}O/^{18}O) effect (OIE) on the zero-temperature superconducting energy gap Δ_0 was studied for a series of Y_{1-x}Pr_xBa_2Cu_3O_{7-δ} samples (0.0\leq x\leq0.45). The OIE on Δ_0 was found to scale with the one on the superconducting transition temperature. These experimental results are in quantitative agreement with predictions from a polaronic model for cuprate high-temperature superconductors and rule out approaches based on purely electronic mechanisms.
Superconducting tips of YBa$_{2} $Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-x}$ were used to perform point-contact Andreev reflection spectroscopy on half-metallic CrO$_{2}$ thin films. At 4.2K, strong suppression of the d-wave Andreev reflection characteristics was observed, consistent with the high spin polarization of CrO$_{2}$. Our technique was validated by comparison with data taken on non-magnetic Au films, and with data taken by superconducting Pb tips. The point contacts were estimated to be $\lesssim$ 10nm in size, attesting to their ballistic and microscopic nature. Our results demonstrate the feasibility of u…
We express the superconducting gap, $Δ(T)$, in terms of thermodynamic functions in both $s$- and d-wave symmetries. Applying to Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ and Y$_{0.8}$Ca$_{0.2}$Ba$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-δ}$ we find that for all dopings $Δ(T)$ persists, as a partial gap, high above $T_c$ due to strong superconducting fluctuations. Therefore in general two gaps are present above $T_c$, the superconducting gap and the pseudogap, effectively reconciling two highly polarized views concerning pseudogap physics.
Although more than twenty years have passed since the discovery of high temperature cuprate superconductivity, the identification of the superconducting order parameter is still under debate. Here, we show that the nodal gap component is the best candidate for the superconducting order parameter. It scales with the critical temperature $T_c$ over a wide doping range and displays a significant temperature dependence below $T_c$ in both the underdoped and the overdoped regimes of the phase diagram. In contrast, the antinodal gap component does not scale with $T_c$ in the underdoped side and appe…
Measurements of thermal conductivity ($κ$) versus temperature and doping for several cuprate superconductors are discussed. Suppressed values of the normal-state $κ$ and the slope change in $κ$ at $T_c$, observed near 1/8 doping in both YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6+x}$ and Hg cuprates, are attributed to local lattice distortions and the suppression of the superconducting condensate, respectively. Both phenomena are proposed to arise from small domains of localized planar holes, presumably a manifestation of phase separation. It is suggested that the phase behavior of $κ$ reflects stripe dynamics and the…
Implications of the small Fermi surface are discussed. We demonstrate that superconductivity in this system can be described in terms of two coupled condensates. The two condensates result in a collective excitation corresponding to the relative phase oscillation - a phason. We discuss the possibility of searching for this collective excitation in the dynamic resistance of the SQUID.
Recent experiments indicate that the excitation spectrum of the cuprates is characterised, in the superconducting state, by two energy scales: the ``coherence energy'' Δ_c and the ``pseudogap'' Δ_p. Here we consider a simple generalisation of the BCS model that yields exotic pairing and can describe, phenomenologically, the generic trends in the critical temperature T_c of cuprate superconductors. We use the model to predict the gap in the single-particle spectrum arising from the superconductivity and we find evidence that it corresponds to the lower of the two energy scales, Δ_c, seen in the…
The cause of the sharp and universal optimization of the HTSC condensation energy at the hole doping concentration of p = 0.19 is identified within the context of the boson-fermion negative-U modelling and stripe phase electronic organization. Some recent structural, optical and positron annihilation experiments adding further support to this type of modelling of HTSC are briefly examined.
It is proposed that (i) the temperature dependence of the superconducting gap Delta(T) in high-Tc cuprates can be predicted just from the knowledge of Delta(0) and the critical temperature Tc; and, in particular, (ii) Delta(0)/Tc > 4 implies that Delta(Tc) is not equal to zero, while Delta(0)/Tc < 4 corresponds to Delta(Tc) = 0. A number of tunneling experiments appear to support the above proposition, and, furthermore, show reasonable quantitative agreement with a model (cond-mat/0308428), which is based on the two-dimensional stripe hypothesis.
We investigate the epitaxial growth of bilayer cuprate La2CaCu2O6+δusing pure ozone as an oxidant, and find that even the crystal with parent composition without cation substitution can show metallic behavior with the aid of epitaxial strain effect. The hole concentration is controlled simply by excess-oxygen doping, and the films grown under the optimum conditions exhibit superconductivity below 30 K. This is the first result on the superconductivity of bilayer La2CaCu2O6+δinduced purely by the excess oxygen.
To decipher the mechanism of high temperature superconductivity, it is important to know how the superconducting pairing emerges from the unusual normal states of cuprate superconductors, including pseudogap, anomalous Fermi liquid and strange metal (SM). A long-standing issue under debate is how the superconducting pairing is formed and condensed in the SM phase because the superconducting transition temperature is the highest in this phase. Here, we report the first experimental observation of a pressure-induced crossover from two- to three-dimensional superconducting states in the optimally…
We report the dynamics of the cuprate superconductor La$_{2-x}$Sr$_{x}$CuO$_4$ ($x = 0.14$) after intense photoexcitation utilizing near-infrared (800 nm) optical pump-terahertz probe spectroscopy. In the superconducting state at 5 K, we observed a redshift of the Josephson plasma resonance that sustains for hundreds of picoseconds after the photoexcitation, indicating the destruction of the $c$-axis superconducting coherence. We show that the metastable spectral features can be described by the photoinduced surface heating of the sample. We also demonstrate that the conventional analysis used…
The magnetization around the superconducting transition was measured in a Tl$_{0.5}$Pb$_{0.5}$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_7$ crystal affected by a considerable reduction ($\sim$55%) of its effective superconducting volume fraction but still with a relatively sharp low-field Meissner transition, a behaviour that may be attributed to the presence of structural inhomogeneities. By taking into account these inhomogeneities just through the Meissner fraction, the observed diamagnetism may still be explained, consistently above and below the superconducting transition, in terms of the conventional Ginzburg-Lan…
Within a two component approach to high Tc copper oxides including polaronic couplings, we identify the pseudogap phase as the onset of polaron ordering. This ordering persists in the superconducting phase. A huge isotope effect on the pseudogap onset temperature is predicted and in agreement with experimental data. The anomalous temperature dependence of the mean square copper oxygen ion displacement observed above, at and below Tc stems from an s-wave superconducting component of the order parameter, whereas a pure d-wave order parameter alone can be excluded.
The interplay between the superconducting gap and normal-state pseudogap in cuprate superconductors is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that the interaction between charge carriers and spins directly from the kinetic energy by exchanging spin excitations in the higher power of the doping concentration induces the normal-state pseudogap state in the particle-hole channel and superconducting state in the particle-particle channel, therefore there is a coexistence of the superconducting gap and normal-state pseudogap in the whole superconducting do…
In highly anisotropic cuprate superconductors it is generally accepted that the reversible magnetization vector, M, is essentially perpendicular to the superconducting CuO2 layers in a wide range of crystal orientations with respect to the applied magnetic field, H. In a recent work [J. Mosqueira et al., Phys. Rev. B 84, 134504 (2011)] it is shown, however, that the dependence of M on the H orientation in the reversible mixed state of a high-quality Tl-based cuprate presents a notable deviation from this behavior. Here we extend these measurements to the fluctuation region above Tc, in order t…
We report a detailed spectroscopic study of the electron doped cuprate superconductor Pr(2-x)Ce(x)CuO(4-δ) using point contact junctions for x=0.125(underdoped), x=0.15(optimally doped) and x=0.17(overdoped). From our conductance measurements we are able to identify bosonic resonances for each doping. These excitations disappear above the critical temperature, and above the critical magnetic field. We find that the energy of the bosonic excitations decreases with doping, which excludes lattice vibrations as the paring glue. We conclude that the bosonic mediator for these cuprates is more likel…
To elucidate the superconductor to metal transition at the end of superconducting dome, the overdoped regime has stepped onto the center stage of cuprate research recently. Here, we use scanning tunneling microscopy to investigate the atomic-scale electronic structure of overdoped trilayer Bi-2223 and bilayer Bi-2212 cuprates. At low energies the spectroscopic maps are well described by dispersive quasiparticle interference patterns. However, as the bias increases to the superconducting coherence peak energy, a virtually non-dispersive pattern with sqrt(2)*sqrt(2) periodicity emerges. Remarkab…
Recent scanning tunneling microscopy on BSCCO 2212 has revealed a substantial spatial supermodulation of the energy gap in the superconducting state. We propose that this gap modulation is due to the superlattice modulations of the atoms in the structure, and hence the parameters in a microscopic model of the CuO2 plane. The gap modulation is estimated using renormalized mean field theory for a t-t'-J model on a superlattice. The results compare well with experiment.
By using high magnetic field data to estimate the background conductivity, Rullier-Albenque and coworkers have recently published [Phys.Rev.B 84, 014522 (2011)] experimental evidence that the in-plane paraconductivity in cuprates is almost independent of doping. In this Comment we also show that, in contrast with their claims, these useful data may be explained at a quantitative level in terms of the Gaussian-Ginzburg-Landau approach for layered superconductors, extended by Carballeira and coworkers to high reduced-temperatures by introducing a total-energy cutoff [Phys.Rev.B 63, 144515 (2001)…
Superconducting cuprates and pnictides composed of CuO2 or AsFe planes respectively with intercalated insulating layers, are at the crossroads of three families of crystalline solids: metals, doped Mott insulators, and ferroelectrics. In the latter atomic displacements play a key role. Both the metallic and the doped insulator approaches to high temperature superconductivity are essentially electronic ones and do not directly involve the lattice. By contrast, in a recently proposed Bond Contraction Pairing (BCP) model, contraction of in-plane Cu-O (or As-Fe) bonds plays an essential role in th…
We investigate the nonequilibrium pair density wave order parameter in a simple microscopic model with the ground state $d-$ wave spatially uniform superconductivity. After pushing the system out of equilibrium by a short-time induced order parameter, the system can exhibit robust free nondecaying oscillations of nonuniform superconducting order. In the weak nonequilibrium regime, the frequency of these oscillations is about $2Δ/\hbar$ and the amplitude can be explained qualitatively by features of equilibrium free energy. In case when the system was taken far from equilibrium, it transits to …
The formation of Cooper pairs, a bound state of two electrons of opposite spin and momenta by exchange of a phonon [1], is a defining feature of conventional superconductivity. In the cuprate high temperature superconductors, even though it has been established that the superconducting state also consists of Cooper pairs, the pairing mechanism remains intensely debated. Here we investigate superconducting pairing in the Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ(Bi2212) cuprate by employing spectral functions obtained directly from angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) experiments as input to the Bethe-Salpeter gap equat…
Within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, we study the interplay between superconductivity and the nodal and antinodal superconducting quasiparticle coherences in cuprate superconductors, and find the s-wave superconducting transition temperature is heavily suppressed by the antinodal superconducting quasiparticle coherence, while the d-wave superconducting transition temperature is enhanced, therefore the antinodal superconducting quasiparticle coherence plays a more crucial role in superconductivity of cuprate superconductors.
We propose and implement a direct experimental test for subdominant superconducting phases with broken time-reversal symmetry in d-wave superconductors. The critical current of 45-degree asymmetric grain boundary junctions are shown to be extremely sensitive to the predicted onset of a complex order parameter at (110)-surfaces and near magnetic impurities. Measurements in YBCO and Ni-doped YBCO junctions indicate that the symmetry at the surface is consistent with pure d-wave at all temperatures, putting limits on the magnitude and chiral domain structure of any subdominant symmetry component.
We present a theoretical framework for understanding recent transverse field muon spin rotation (TF-$μ$SR) experiments on cuprate superconductors in terms of localized regions of phase-coherent pairing correlations above the bulk superconducting transition temperature $T_c$. The local regions of phase coherence are associated with a tendency toward charge ordering, a phenomenon found recently in hole-doped cuprates. We simulate the appearance of these regions by a conserved order parameter dynamics, and perform self-consistent superconducting calculations using the Bogoliubov-deGennes method. …
We discuss a wealth of data from various types of experiments which together suggest that the superconducting state of optimally to overdoped BSCCO-2212 can be well-described by the BCS theory with a d-wave gap together with small-angle scattering from out-of-plane defects. These include scanning tunnelling Fourier transform spectroscopy observation of nanoscale inhomogeneity in the local gap edge position, the narrowing of the antinodal ARPES spectrum when BSCCO becomes superconducting, as well as the behavior of the microwave and thermal conductivities. We suggest that the large amount of sm…
A first-order phase transition is found in the multilayer cuprate superconductor, HgBa$_2$Ca$_4$Cu$_5$O$_y$ (Hg-1245), with a superconducting transition temperature of 108 K, under zero magnetic field. We observed a hysteretic specific heat jump around 41 K. We conclude that the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer pairs have a residual entropy due to fluctuations in the phase difference between the five CuO$_2$ planes in a unit cell of Hg-1245, and that this fluctuation freezes below the first-order phase transition temperature.
We report on results of our analysis of published experimental data of the in-plane infrared response of two representative underdoped high-$T_{\mathrm{c}}$ cuprate superconductors, focusing on a characteristic gap feature in the spectra of the real part of the conductivity and the corresponding structures of the memory function, that develop below a temperature $T^{\mathrm{ons}}$ considerably higher than $T_{\mathrm{c}}$. Several arguments based on comparisons of the data with results of our calculations are provided indicating that the features are due to superconductivity and that $T^{\math…
High magnetic field studies of the cuprate superconductors revealed a non-BCS temperature dependence of the upper critical field $H_{c2}(T)$ determined resistively by several groups. These determinations caused some doubts on the grounds of the contrasting effect of the magnetic field on the in-plane, $ρ_{ab}$, and out-of-plane, $ρ_{c}$ resistances reported for large sample of Bi2212. Here we present careful measurements of both $ρ_{ab}(B)$ and $ρ_{c}(B)$ of tiny Bi2212 crystals in magnetic fields up to 50 Tesla. None of our measurements revealed a situation when on field increase $ρ_c$ reache…
Motivated by recent attention to a potential antiferromagnetic quantum critical point at $x_c\sim 0.19$, we have used inelastic neutron scattering to investigate the low-energy spin excitations in crystals of La$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$CuO$_4$ bracketing $x_c$. We observe a peak in the normal-state spin-fluctuation weight at $\sim20$~meV for both $x=0.21$ and 0.17, inconsistent with quantum critical behavior. The presence of the peak raises the question of whether low-energy spin fluctuations limit the onset of superconducting order. Empirically evaluating the spin gap $Δ_{\rm spin}$ in the superconducti…
Cooper's formalism for fermionic pairing has been revisited considering upto 3rd neighbour hopping terms, firstly with a Fermi liquid like background on a square lattice keeping in mind the overdopped cuprates. Then the whole scheme is repeated with a Marginal Fermi liquid- like background, taking into account the self energy correction of the mobile electrons to include a more realitic density of states in the calculation. Detailed comparison of our theoretical results with those from experiments strongly supports the Marginal Fermi liquid- like character of the normal phase with exciton medi…
Motivated by the recent scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and neutron scattering experiments, we investigate various charge density wave orders coexisting with superconductivity in the cuprate superconductors. The explicit expressions of the local density of states and its Fourier component at the ordering wavevector for the weak charge modulations are derived. It is shown that the STM experiments in $Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+δ}$ cannot be explained by a site- or bond-centered charge modulation alone, but agree well with the presence of the dimerization hopping and transverse pairing modulations. …
We explored by electronic Raman scattering the superconducting state of Bi-2212 single crystal by performing a fine tuned doping study. We found three distinct energy scales in A1g, B1g and B2g symmetries which show three distinct doping dependencies. Above p=0.22 the three energies merge, below p=0.12, the A1g scale is no more detectable while the B1g and B2g scales become constant in energy. In between, the A1g and B1g scales increase monotonically with under-doping while the B2g one exhibits a maximum at p=0.16. The three superconducting energy scales appear to be an universal feature of ho…
In scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) conductance curves, the superconducting gap of cuprates is sometimes accompanied by small sub-gap structures at very low energy. This was documented early on near vortex cores and later at zero magnetic field. Using mean-field toy models of coexisting d-wave superconductivity ($d$SC), \emph{d}-form factor density wave ($d$FF-DW), and extended s-wave pair density wave ($s'$PDW), we find agreement with this phenomenon, with $s'$PDW playing a critical role. We explore the high variability of the gap structure with changes in band structure and density wave (…
The interplay between the superconducting gap and normal-state pseudogap in the bilayer cuprate superconductors is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that the charge carrier interaction directly from the interlayer coherent hopping in the kinetic energy by exchanging spin excitations does not provide the contribution to the normal-state pseudogap in the particle-hole channel and superconducting gap in the particle-particle channel, while only the charge carrier interaction directly from the intralayer hopping in the kinetic energy by exchanging sp…
A model incorporating simultaneous superconducting and lattice instabilities has been studied in detail to estimate the nature of coupling and inter-play between them. The phase diagram is obtained in the temperature-filling plane at different values of the parameters of the model. It is found that a pseudogap develops in the distorted phase that inhibits the appearance of the superconducting transition. The superconducting instability is strongest for the regime of filling where the van Hove singularity in the 2D density of states is close to the chemical potential. The pseudogap, developed i…
In this brief report an attempt is made for a 'mise-a-point' of the subject of the phase fluctuations of the superconducting order parameter above Tc in cuprates, particularly as they appear in underdoped compounds. Measurements of torque magnetometry, Nernst effect and isothermal diamagnetic magnetization curves published in the last years are taken into consideration. Although by different experimental approaches and in different magnetic field ranges it can be stated that vortex-antivortex excitations and phase fluctuations among islands of local non-zero order parameter lacking of long ran…
We have investigated the temperature and magnetic field dependence of the Hall coefficient of two well-characterized superconducting MgB$_2$ films (T$_{c0}$=38.0 K) in both the normal and superconducting states. Our results show that the normal-state Hall coefficient R$_H$ is positive and increases with decreasing temperature, independent of the applied magnetic field. Below T$_c$(H), R$_H$ decreases rapidly with temperature and changes sign before it reaches zero. The position and magnitude at which R$_H$ shows a minimum depends on the applied field. Quantitative analysis of our data indicate…
Raman scattering in the heavily overdoped (Y,Ca)Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-d} (T_c = 65 K) and Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+d} (T_c = 55 K) crystals has been investigated. For the both crystals, the electronic pair-breaking peaks in the A_{1g} and B_{1g} polarizations were largely shifted to the low energies close to a half of 2Delta_0, Delta_0 being the maximum gap. It strongly suggests s-wave mixing into the d-wave superconducting order parameter and the consequent manifestation of the Coulomb screening effect in the B_{1g}-channel. Gradual mixing of s-wave component with overdoping is not due to the change of crys…
Even before the experimental discovery of spin- and charge-stripe order in La$_{2-x-y}$Nd$_y$Sr$_x$CuO$_4$ and La$_{2-x}$Ba$_x$CuO$_4$ at x = 1/8, stripe formation was predicted from theoretical considerations. Nevertheless, a consistent description of the complex coexistence of stripe order with superconductivity has remained a challenge. Here we introduce a Hartree-Fock decoupling scheme which unifies previous approaches and allows for a detailed analysis of the competition between antiferromagnetism and superconductivity in real and momentum space. We identify two distinct parameter regimes…
Intra unit cell (IUC) magnetic order observed by polarized neutron diffraction (PND) is one of the hallmarks of the pseudogap state of high-temperature copper oxide superconductors. This experimental observation, usually interpreted as a result of loop currents, has been recently challenged based on lower statistics data. We here address the crucial issue of polarization inhomogeneities in the neutron beams showing that the original data had a much better reproducibilty. Within these technical limitations, we here propose a self-consistent analysis that potentially solves the controversy. We s…
This paper reviews experimental phase diagrams of cuprates and pnictides to demonstrate that specific features of the superconducting phase diagrams in bothHTSC families can be understood within the framework of the proposed approach, which assumes the formation, under heterovalent doping, of localized trion complexes consisting of a doped carrier and charge transfer (CT) excitons. The geometry of such cells containing CT excitons (CT plaquettes) in the basal plane of the crystal is determined by its crystal structure and the type of dopant, so that the dopant concentration range corresponding …
We study the superconductivity in the three-dimensional multiband d-p model, in which a Cu$_2$O$_3$-ladder layer and a CuO$_2$-chain layer are alternately stacked, as a model of the superconducting spin-chain ladder cuprate. $p_z$-Wave-like triplet superconductivity is found to be the most stable, and its dependence on interlayer coupling can explain the superconducting transition temperature dependence on pressure in real superconducting spin-chain ladder cuprates. The superconductivity may be enhanced if hole transfer from the chain layer to the ladder layer can be promoted beyond the typica…
We use ultrashort intense laser pulses to study superconducting state vaporization dynamics in La(2-x)Sr(x)CuO4 (x=0.1 and 0.15) on the femtosecond timescale. We find that the energy density required to vaporize the superconducting state is 2+- 0.8 K/Cu and 2.6 +- 1 K/Cu for x=0.1 and 0.15 respectively. This is significantly greater than the condensation energy density, indicating that the quasiparticles share a large amount of energy with the boson glue bath on this timescale. Considering in detail both spin and lattice energy relaxation pathways which take place on the relevant timescale of …
A theoretical analysis is presented on possible effects of disorder by dopants in high-temperature superconducting cuprate perovskites, to define their basic spectra of spin and electronic excitations, and the subsequent observable properties, especially doping dependence of superconducting order parameter. The central point in the proposed physical picture is formation of specific impurity subband within the insulating bandgap of initial undoped material, serving as a source for the system metallization and further transition into superconducting state with anisotropic order parameter.
Basic experimental facts related to ARPES, tunnelling, optics ad neutron scattering measurements are discussed. They give evidence for the relevance of the electron-phonon interaction (EPI) in pairing mechanism of HTSC cuprates. A controllable theory for strong correlations and their effects on EPI is discussed which is based on the 1/N expansion method in the t-J model. Strong correlations renormalize EPI and other charge-fluctuation properties (by including nonmagnetic impurity scattering) and the forward scattering peak (FSP) appears in the effective interactions. Pronounced FSP in EPI of H…
We report neutron scattering studies on single crystals of the electron-doped (n-type) superconducting cuprate Nd2-xCexCuO4 (x=0.15) with Tc = 18 K and 25 K. Unlike the hole-doped (p-type) superconducting cuprates where incommensurate magnetic fluctuations commonly exist, the n-type cuprate shows commensurate magnetic fluctuations at the tetragonal (1/2 1/2 0) reciprocal points both in the superconducting and in the normal state. A spin gap opens up when the n-type cuprate becomes superconducting, as in the optimally doped p-type La2-xSrxCuO4. The gap energy, however, increases gradually up to…
