We define three fundamental solvable bilinear deformations for any massive non-relativistic 2d quantum field theory (QFT). They include the $\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$ deformation and the recently introduced hard rod deformation. We show that all three deformations can be interpreted as coupling the non-relativistic QFT to a specific Newton-Cartan geometry, similar to the Jackiw-Teitelboim-like gravity in the relativistic case. Using the gravity formulations, we derive closed-form deformed classical Lagrangians of the Schrödinger model with a generic potential. We also extend the dynamical change of coordinate interpretation to the non-relativistic case for all three deformations. The dynamical coordinates are then used to derive the deformed classical Lagrangians and deformed quantum S-matrices.
The microscopic theories of quantum gravity related to integrable lattice models can be constructed as special deformations of pure gravity. Each such deformation is defined by a second order differential operator acting on the coupling constants. As a consequence, the theories with matter fields satisfy a set of constraints inherited from the integrable structure of pure gravity. In particular, a set of bilinear functional equations for each theory with matter fields follows from the Hirota equations defining the KP (KdV) structure of pure gravity.
This paper is a brief review of recent results on the concept of ``generalized $τ$-function'', defined as a generating function of all the matrix elements in a given highest-weight representation of a universal enveloping algebra ${\cal G}$. Despite the differences from the particular case of conventional $τ$-functions of integrable (KP and Toda lattice) hierarchies, these generic $τ$-functions also satisfy bilinear Hirota-like equations, which can be deduced from manipulations with intertwining operators. The main example considered in details is the case of quantum groups, when such $τ$-``fu…
We describe the classical $o(3,2)$ $r$-matrices as generating the quantum deformations of either D=3 conformal algebra with mass-like deformation parameters or D=4 $AdS$ algebra with dimensionless deformation parameters. We describe the quantization of classical $o(3,2)$ $r$-matrices via Drinfeld twist method which locates the deformation in the coalgebra sector. Further we obtain the quantum $o(3,2)$ algebra in a convenient Hopf algebra form by considering suitable deformation maps from classical to deformed $o(3,2)$ algebra basis. It appears that if we pass from $κ$-deformed D =3 conformal a…
It is known that the partition functions of the U(N) x U(N+M) ABJM theory satisfy a set of bilinear relations, which, written in the grand partition function, was recently found to be the q-Painleve III_3 equation. In this paper we have suggested a similar bilinear relation holds for the ABJM theory with N=6 preserving mass deformation for an arbitrary complex value of mass parameter, to which we have provided several non-trivial checks by using the exact values of the partition functions for various N,k,M and the mass parameter. For particular choices of the mass parameters labeled by integer…
We derive a set of bilinear functional equations of Hirota type for the partition functions of the $sl(2)$ related integrable statistical models defined on a random lattice. These equations are obtained as deformations of the Hirota equations for the KP integrable hierarchy, which are satisfied by the partition function of the ensemble of planar graphs.
We perform the dynamical change of coordinates to derive a generalization of the trace relation and apply it to the non-linear Schrödinger model. After that, we work out the dimensional reduction of the bilinear $T\bar T$ operator and obtain the new $T\bar T$-like deformation of the quantum mechanics of free non-relativistic fermions and interacting Calogero-Sutherland particles. The deformation modifies the spectrum of the Hamiltonian but does not alter its eigenfunctions. The deformed classical Lagrangian is also obtained. Finally, we study a particular deformation of the two-dimensional Yan…
We consider deformation of a generic $d$ dimensional ($d\geq 2$) large-$N$ CFT on a sphere by a spin-0 operator which is bilinear in the components of the stress tensor. Such a deformation has been proposed to be holographically dual to an $AdS_{d+1}$ bulk with a hard radial cut-off. We compute the exact partition function and find the entanglement entropy from the field theory side in various dimensions and compare with the corresponding holographic results. We also compute renormalized entanglement entropy both in field theory and holography and find complete agreement between them.
We construct a solvable deformation of two-dimensional theories with $(2,2)$ supersymmetry using an irrelevant operator which is a bilinear in the supercurrents. This supercurrent-squared operator is manifestly supersymmetric, and equivalent to $T\bar{T}$ after using conservation laws. As illustrative examples, we deform theories involving a single $(2,2)$ chiral superfield. We show that the deformed free theory is on-shell equivalent to the $(2,2)$ Nambu-Goto action. At the classical level, models with a superpotential exhibit more surprising behavior: the deformed theory exhibits poles in th…
We examine the effect of non-local deformations on the applicability of interaction point time ordered perturbation theory (IPTOPT) based on the free Hamiltonian of local theories. The usual argument for the case of quantum field theory (QFT) on a noncommutative (NC) space (based on the fact that the introduction of star products in bilinear terms does not alter the action) is not applicable to IPTOPT due to several discrepancies compared to the naive path integral approach when noncommutativity involves time. These discrepancies are explained in detail. Besides scalar models, gauge fields are…
We study all possible deformations of the Maxwell algebra. In D=d+1\neq 3 dimensions there is only one-parameter deformation. The deformed algebra is isomorphic to so(d+1,1)\oplus so(d,1) or to so(d,2)\oplus so(d,1) depending on the signs of the deformation parameter. We construct in the dS (AdS) space a model of massive particle interacting with Abelian vector field via non-local Lorentz force. In D=2+1 the deformations depend on two parameters b and k. We construct a phase diagram, with two parts of the (b,k) plane with so(3,1)\oplus so(2,1) and so(2,2)\oplus so(2,1) algebras separated by a …
We find a regular analytic 1st order deformation of the Klebanov-Strassler background. From the dual gauge theory point of view the deformation describes supersymmetry soft breaking gaugino mass terms. We calculate the difference in vacuum energies between the supersymmetric and the non-supersymmetric solutions and find that it matches the field theory prediction. We also discuss the breaking of the $U(1)_R$ symmetry and the space-time dependence of the gaugino bilinears two point function. Finally, we determine the Penrose limit of the non-supersymmetric background and write down the correspo…
We review and summarize recent works on the relation between form factors in integrable quantum field theory and deformation of geometrical data associated to hyper-elliptic curves. This relation, which is based on a deformation of the Riemann bilinear identity, in particular leads to the notion of null vectors in integrable field theory and to a new description of the KdV hierarchy.
We study phase transitions driven by fermionic double-trace deformations in gauge-gravity duality. Both the strength of the double trace deformation and the infrared conformal dimension/self-energy scaling of the quasiparticle can be used to decrease the critical temperature to zero, leading to a line of quantum critical points. The self-energy scaling is controlled indirectly through an applied magnetic field and the quantum phase transition naturally involves the condensation of a fermion bilinear which models the spin density wave in an antiferromagnetic state. The nature of the quantum cri…
Massless conformal scalar field in six dimensions corresponds to the minimal unitary representation (minrep) of the conformal group SO(6,2). This minrep admits a family of deformations labelled by the spin t of an SU(2)_T group, which is the 6d analog of helicity in four dimensions. These deformations of the minrep of SO(6,2) describe massless conformal fields that are symmetric tensors in the spinorial representation of the 6d Lorentz group. The minrep and its deformations were obtained by quantization of the nonlinear realization of SO(6,2) as a quasiconformal group in arXiv:1005.3580. We gi…
Massless conformal scalar field in d=4 corresponds to the minimal unitary representation (minrep) of the conformal group SU(2,2) which admits a one-parameter family of deformations that describe massless fields of arbitrary helicity. The minrep and its deformations were obtained by quantization of the nonlinear realization of SU(2,2) as a quasiconformal group in arXiv:0908.3624. We show that the generators of SU(2,2) for these unitary irreducible representations can be written as bilinears of deformed twistorial oscillators which transform nonlinearly under the Lorentz group and apply them to …
The q-deformed traces and orbits for the two parametric quantum groups $GL_{qp}(2)$ and $GL_{qp}(1|1)$ are defined. They are subsequently used in the construction of $q$-orbit invariants for these groups. General $qp$-(super)oscillator commutation relations are obtained which remain invariant under the coactions of groups $GL_{qp}(2)$ and $GL_{qp}(1|1)$. The $GL_{qp}(2)$ covariant deformed algebra is deduced in terms of the bilinears of bosonic $qp$-oscillators which turns out to be a central extension of the Witten-type deformation of $sl(2)$ algebra. In the case of the supergroup $GL_{qp}(1|…
Integrable $λ$-deformed $σ$-models are characterized by an underlying current algebra/coset model CFT deformed, at the infinitesimal level, by current/parafermion bilinears. We promote the deformation parameters to dynamical functions of time introduced as an extra coordinate. It is conceivable that by appropriately constraining them, the beta-functions vanish and consequently the $σ$-model stays conformal. Remarkably, we explicitly materialize this scenario in several cases having a single and even multiple deformation parameters. These generically obey a system of non-linear second-order ord…
We develop a self-consistent approach to study the spectral properties of a class of quantum mechanical operators by using the knowledge about monodromies of $2\times 2$ linear systems (Riemann-Hilbert correspondence). Our technique applies to a variety of problems, though in this paper we only analyse in detail two examples. First we review the case of the (modified) Mathieu operator, which corresponds to a certain linear system on the sphere and makes contact with the Painlevé $\mathrm{III}_3$ equation. Then we extend the analysis to the 2-particle elliptic Calogero-Moser operator, which cor…
We calculate the all-loop anomalous dimensions of current operators in $λ$-deformed $σ$-models. For the isotropic integrable deformation and for a semi-simple group $G$ we compute the anomalous dimensions using two different methods. In the first we use the all-loop effective action and in the second we employ perturbation theory along with the Callan-Symanzik equation and in conjunction with a duality-type symmetry shared by these models. Furthermore, using CFT techniques we compute the all-loop anomalous dimensions of bilinear currents for the isotropic deformation case and a general $G$. Fi…
This paper addresses the problems of quantum spectral curves and 4D limit for the melting crystal model of 5D SUSY $U(1)$ Yang-Mills theory on $\mathbb{R}^4\times S^1$. The partition function $Z(\mathbf{t})$ deformed by an infinite number of external potentials is a tau function of the KP hierarchy with respect to the coupling constants $\mathbf{t} = (t_1,t_2,\ldots)$. A single-variate specialization $Z(x)$ of $Z(\mathbf{t})$ satisfies a $q$-difference equation representing the quantum spectral curve of the melting crystal model. In the limit as the radius $R$ of $S^1$ in $\mathbb{R}^4\times S…
