The spin dynamics in constant electromagnetic fields is described by the Bargmann-Michel-Telegdi equation which can be upgraded with anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments. The upgraded equation remains self-consistent, Lorentz-covariant and gauge-invariant. It and its different forms have been confirmed in numerous experiments to high degree of accuracy. We have recently derived the spin motion equation within the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin weak-field approximation which adds a pseudoscalar correction to the BMT equation. The upgraded equation is again self-consistent, Lorentz-covariant, gauge-invariant, and free of unwanted artifacts. The pseudoscalar correction is expected to be small, and might become important in hypersensitive experiments, like the measurements of electric dipole moments which are themselves related to pseudoscalar quantities. It also becomes possible to explain why EDMs are so difficult to measure, since this correction term might lead to the effective screening of electric dipole moments. Within the same model, it is possible to explain the discrepancy between experimental and theoretical values of muon magnetic anomaly under assumption that the pseudoscalar correction is the dominant source of this discrepancy.
Pseudoscalar and charged Higgs bosons production in the processes $μ^+ μ^-\to P^0_i Z^0$, $μ^+μ^- \to H^{\pm}W^{\mp}$ within the models with several Higgs doublets and singlets is considered.
The pseudoscalar pole contribution is the dominant source of the $ {\cal O}(α^3) $ hadronic light-by-light scattering effect in muon $g - 2$. We have examined this contribution taking account of the off-shell structure of the pseudoscalar-photon-photon anomaly vertex deduced from available experimental data. Our work leads to an improved estimate, $ -79.2 (15.4) \times 10^{-11}$, for the total hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution to the muon $g - 2$.
The contribution of pseudoscalar pole diagrams to the hadronic light-by-light corrections of order alpha^3 E_F to the ground state hyperfine splitting in hydrogenic atom is calculated in the pseudoscalar pole terms approximation. The vector dominance model for the form factor of the transition of a pseudoscalar meson into two photons is used. With the account of new experimental data on the cross sections sigma (e^+e^-\to ρ, ω\to π^0(η)γ) in the SND and CMD-2 experiments some other hadronic corrections to the muonium hyperfine splitting are calculated.
We constrain the possibility of a new pseudoscalar coupling between the muon and proton using a recent measurement of the 2S hyperfine splitting in muonic hydrogen.
Current muon anomalous magnetic moment data have challenged the SM, and seems to open a window to new Physics. Since the difference between SM and experimental predictions is approximately $2.6σ$. In the framework of the General Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM), we calculate the muon anomalous magnetic moment to get lower and upper bounds for the Flavor Changing Yukawa couplings (FC) in the leptonic sector. We also obtain lower bounds for the mass of the Pseudoscalar Higgs ($m_{A^ 0}$, as a function of the parameters of the model.
Current experimental data from the $g-2$ muon factor, seems to show the necessity of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM), since the difference between SM and experimental predictions is 2.6$σ$. In the framework of the General Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM), we calculate the muon anomalous magnetic moment to get lower and upper bounds for the Flavour Changing (FC) Yukawa couplings in the leptonic sector. We also obtain lower bounds for the mass of the pseudoscalar Higgs ($m_{A^0}$) as a function of the parameters of the model.
In this work, we present our recent results on a new and alternative data-driven determination for the hadronic light-by-light pseudoscalar-pole contribution to the muon $(g-2)$. Our approach is based on Canterbury approximants, a rational approach to describe the required transition form factors, which provides a systematic and model-independent framework beyond traditional large-$N_c$ approaches. As a result, we obtain a competitive determination with errors according to future $(g-2)$ experiments including, for the first time, a well-defined systematic uncertainty.
In the framework of the quasipotential method in quantum electrodynamics we calculate the contribution of light pseudoscalar (PS) and axial-vector (AV) mesons to the interaction operator of a muon and a proton in muonic hydrogen atom. The coupling of mesons with the muon is via two-photon intermediate state. The parametrization of the transition form factor of two photons into PS and AV mesons, based on the experimental data on the transition form factors and QCD asymptotics, is used. Numerical estimates of the contributions to the hyperfine structure of the spectrum of the S and P levels are …
In the framework of the quasipotential method in quantum electrodynamics we calculate the contribution of pseudoscalar mesons to the interaction operator of a muon and a proton in muonic hydrogen atom. The parametrization of the transition form factor of two photons into $π$, $η$ mesons, based on the experimental data on the transition form factors and QCD asymptotics is used. Numerical estimates of the contributions to the hyperfine structure of the spectrum of the S and P levels are presented.
The evaluation of the numerically dominant pseudoscalar-pole contribution to hadronic light-by-light scattering in the muon g-2 involves the pseudoscalar-photon transition form factor F_{P gamma^* gamma^*}(-Q_1^2, -Q_2^2) with P = pi^0, eta, eta^\prime and, in general, two off-shell photons with spacelike momenta Q_{1,2}^2. We determine which regions of photon momenta give the main contribution for hadronic light-by-light scattering. Furthermore, we analyze how the precision of future measurements of the single- and double-virtual form factor impacts the precision of a data-driven estimate of …
The light-by-light contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of muon (g-2)_μ from the hadronic exchanges in the neutral pseudoscalar meson channel is calculated in the nonlocal chiral quark model. The full kinematic dependence of the meson-two-photon vertices on the virtualities of the mesons and photons is taken into account. The status of various phenomenological and QCD short-distance constraints is discussed and the comparison with the predictions of other models is performed. It is demonstrated that the effect of the full kinematic dependence in the meson-photon vertices is to reduce …
We report on our progress toward the computation of the $π^0$, $η$ and $η^{\prime}$ transition form factors using staggered quarks on $N_f=2+1+1$ gauge ensembles generated by the Budapest-Marseille-Wuppertal collaboration. These form factors are essential ingredients to evaluate the pseudoscalar-pole contributions to the hadronic light-by-light scattering in the muon $g-2$. Preliminary results for the pseudoscalar-pole contributions are presented, at finite lattice spacing, for all three light mesons.
In this work, we introduce an extra singlet pseudoscalar into the Type-III two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) which is supposed to solve a series of problems in the modern particle-cosmology. With existence of a light pseudoscalar, the $h\rightarrowμτ$ excess measured at CMS and as well as the $(g-2)_μ$ anomaly could be simultaneously explained within certain parameter spaces that can also tolerate the data on the flavor-violating processes $τ\rightarrowμγ$ and Higgs decay gained at LHC. Within the same parameter spaces, the DM relic abundance is well accounted. Moreover, the recently observed Gal…
We consider single charged Higgs ($H^{\pm}$) and pseudoscalar Higgs ($A^0$) production in association with a gauge boson at $μ^+μ^-$ colliders. We find that the tree-level t-channel and s-channel contributions to $μ^+μ^-\to H^{\pm}W^{\mp}, A^0Z$ are enhanced for large values of $\tanβ$, allowing sizeable cross-sections whose analogies at $e^+e^-$ colliders would be very small. These processes provide attractive new ways of producing such particles at $μ^+μ^-$ colliders and are superior to the conventional methods in regions of parameter space.
Many models of electroweak symmetry breaking have an additional light pseudoscalar. If the Higgs boson can decay to a new pseudoscalar, LEP searches for the Higgs can be significantly altered and the Higgs can be as light as 86 GeV. Discovering the Higgs boson in these models is challenging when the pseudoscalar is lighter than 10 GeV because it decays dominantly into tau leptons. In this paper, we discuss discovering the Higgs in a subdominant decay mode where one of the pseudoscalars decays to a pair of muons. This search allows for potential discovery of a cascade-decaying Higgs boson with …
We revisit the predictions for the pseudoscalar-photon transition form factors in bottom-up and top-down holographic QCD models which only use the pion decay constant and the $ρ$ meson mass as input. We find remarkable agreement with the available experimental data for the single-virtual $π^0$ form factor that have recently been extended to lower momenta by BESIII, down to 0.3 GeV$^2$. The bottom-up models moreover turn out to be roughly consistent with recent experimental results obtained by BaBar for the double-virtual $η'$ form factor at large momenta as well as with a recent lattice extrap…
Lightest pseudoscalar (P= pi^0, eta, eta') exchange contribution to the light-by-light (LbL) scattering piece of the muon anomaly, a_mu=(g_mu-2)/2, has been evaluated using a resonance chiral Lagrangian (RχL). Best description of pion transition form-factor (TFF) data is obtained with only tiny violations of one of the relations in the minimal consistent set of short-distance constraints on the anomalous RχL couplings. eta^{(')} TFF, predicted in terms of the pi TFF and the eta-eta^' mixing, are in good agreement with measurements. With this input, we obtain a_mu^{P,LbL} = (10.47\pm0.54)x10^-1…
The light-by-light contribution from the lightest neutral pseudoscalar and scalar mesons to the anomalous magnetic moment of muon is calculated in the framework of the nonlocal SU(3)x SU(3) quark model. The model is based on chirally symmetric four-quark interaction of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio type and Kobayashi-Maskawa-t`Hooft U_A(1) breaking six-quark interaction. Full kinematic dependence of vertices with off-shell mesons and photons in intermediate states in the light-by-light scattering amplitude is taken into account. The small positive contributions from the scalar mesons stabilize the to…
We present preliminary results from our calculation of the pseudoscalar transition form factors of the $η$ and $η'$ mesons using staggered quarks on $N_f=2+1+1$ gauge ensembles generated by the Budapest-Marseille-Wuppertal collaboration. These transition form factors are an important input for the hadronic light-by-light contribution to the muon $(g-2)$. We first elaborate on the extraction of the masses of the $η$ and $η'$ mesons, that mix under the dynamics of QCD. Thereafter, we show our preliminary results for the pseudoscalar transition form factors, focusing on the $η$ meson in the absen…
The hyperfine effect in muon capture rate is analyzed with taking into account of the second-order terms in 1/M in the non-relativistic Hamiltonian. It is shown that in the situation of the dominance of the squared first-order terms the interference of zero-order and second-order terms has no significant influence. General expression for neutrino (recoil nucleus) angular distribution in muon capture by nucleus with non-zero spin is proposed. High sensitivity to $g_P$ of the term related with alignment of the initial mesic atom is discussed in the approximation of dominating Gamow--Teller matri…
We correct the error in the sign of the pseudoscalar pole contribution to the muon g-2, which dominates the O(alpha^3) hadronic light-by-light scattering effect. The error originates from our oversight of a feature of the algebraic manipulation program FORM which defines the epsilon-tensor in such a way that it satisfies the relation epsilon_{mu_1 mu_2 mu_3 mu_4} epsilon_{nu_1 nu_2 nu_3 nu_4} eta^{mu_1 nu_1} eta^{mu_2 nu_2} eta^{mu_3 nu_3} eta^{mu_4 nu_4} = 24, irrespective of space-time metric. To circumvent this problem, we replaced the product epsilon_{mu_1 mu_2 mu_3 mu_4} epsilon_{nu_1 nu_…
A light pseudoscalar of the lepton-specific 2HDM can enhance the muon g-2, but suffer from various constraints easily, such as the 125.5 GeV Higgs signals, non-observation of additional Higgs at the collider and even $B_s\to μ^+μ^-$. In this paper, we take the light CP-even Higgs as the 125.5 GeV Higgs, and examine the implications of those observables on a pseudoscalar with the mass below the half of 125.5 GeV. Also the other relevant theoretical and experimental constraints are considered. We find that the pseudoscalar can be allowed to be as low as 10 GeV, but the corresponding $\tanβ$, $\s…
We present our model-independent and data-driven method to describe pseudoscalar meson transition form factors in the space- and (low-energy) time-like regions. The method is general and conforms a toolkit applicable to any other form factor, of one and two variables, with the potential to include both high- and low-energy QCD constraints altogether. The method makes use of analyticity and unitary properties of form factors, it is simple, systematic and can be improved upon by including new data. In the present discussion, the method is used to show the impact of experimental data for precisio…
We study the excesses of $R(D^{(*)})$ and muon $g-2$ in the framework of a two-Higgs-doublet model with top quark flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) couplings. Considering the relevant theoretical and experimental constraints, we find that the $R(D^{(*)})$ and muon $g-2$ excesses can be simultaneously explained in a parameter space allowed by the constraints. In such a parameter space the pseudoscalar ($A$) has a mass between 20 GeV and 150 GeV so that it can be produced from the top quark FCNC decay $t\to A c$. Focusing on its dominant decay $A\to τ\barτ$, we perform a detailed simulation…
We show, in a largely model-independent way, that for pi^0 (eta, eta^\prime) the region of photon momenta below about 1 (1.5) GeV gives the main contribution to hadronic light-by-light scattering. We then discuss how the precision of current and future measurements of the s…
The measurement of electric dipole moment in storage rings can potentially exceed the sensitivity of tests with neutral systems. The spin dynamics under such conditions is described by the Bargmann-Michel-Telegdi equation. It can be derived in the semiclassical approximation under several assumptions one of which is the zero pseudoscalar bilinear. However, many promising extensions to the standard model consider scalar-pseudoscalar couplings which assume nonzero electron pseudoscalar. We re-derive the spin precession equation under conditions that do not assume that pseudoscalar is zero. It le…
Using the present upper bound on the neutron electric dipole moment, we give an estimate for the upper limit of the CP-violating couplings of the eta(eta') to the nucleon. Using this result, we then derive constraints on the CP-violating eta(eta')-pi-pi couplings, which define the two-pion CP-violating decays of the eta and eta' mesons. Our results are relevant for the running and planned measurements of rare decays of the eta and eta' mesons by the GlueX Collaboration at JLab and the LHCb Collaboration at CERN.
We show that any new interaction resulting in a chirally-enhanced contribution to the muon magnetic moment necessarily modifies the decay rate of the Higgs boson to muon pairs or generates the muon electric dipole moment. These three observables are highly correlated, and near future measurements of $h\to μ^+μ^-$ will carve an ellipse in the plane of dipole moments for any such model. Together with the future measurements of the electric dipole moment many models able to explain the muon g-2 anomaly can be efficiently tested.
The anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments in spin motion equation acquire pseudoscalar corrections if the $T(CP)$-noninvariance is admitted. It allows to explain the discrepancy between experimental and theoretical values of muon $(g-2)$ factor under assumption that the pseudoscalar correction is the dominant source of this discrepancy.
We present results for single pseudoscalar meson pole contributions and pion box contributions to the hadronic light-by-light (LBL) correction of the muon's anomalous magnetic moment. We follow the recently developed dispersive approach to LBL, where these contributions are evaluated with intermediate mesons on-shell. However, the space-like electromagnetic and transition form factors are not determined from analytic continuation of time-like data, but directly calculated within the functional approach to QCD using Dyson-Schwinger and Bethe-Salpeter equations. This strategy allows for a system…
We calculate the dominant contributions to the muon $g-2$ at the two-loop level due to a generic pseudoscalar boson that may exist in any exotic Higgs sector in most extensions of the standard model. The leading effect comes from diagrams of the Barr-Zee type. A sufficiently light pseudoscalar Higgs boson can give rise to contribution as large as the electroweak contribution which is measurable in the next round of $g-2$ experiment. Through the contribution we calculated here, the anticipated improved data in the recent future on the muon $g-2$ can put the best limit on the possible existence …
We examine the prospects for discovering new physics through muon dipole moments. The current deviation in $g_μ-2$ may be due entirely to the muon's {\em electric} dipole moment. We note that the precession frequency in the proposed BNL muon EDM experiment is also subject to a similar ambiguity, but this can be resolved by up-down asymmetry measurements. We then review the theoretical expectations for the muon's electric dipole moment in supersymmetric models.
We calculate ordinary and radiative muon capture on the proton in an effective field theory of pions, nucleons and delta isobars, working to third and second order in the small scale expansion respectively. Preceding calculations in chiral effective field theories only employed pion and nucleon degrees of freedom and were not able to reproduce the photon spectrum in the pioneering experiment of radiative muon capture on the proton from TRIUMF. For the past few years it has been speculated that the discrepancy between theory and experiment might be due to Delta(1232) related effects, which are …
The muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment (MDM) is calculated in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). In this paper, we discuss how the muon MDM depends on the parameters in MSSM in detail. We show that the contribution of the superparticle-loop becomes significant especially when $\tanβ$ is large. Numerically, it becomes $O(10^{-8}-10^{-9})$ in a wide parameter space, which is within the reach of the new Brookhaven E821 experiment.
We have studied the $P\toγ^\starγ^\star$ transition form-factors ($P=π^0,η,η'$) within a chiral invariant framework that allows us to relate the three form-factors and evaluate the corresponding contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment $a_μ$, through pseudoscalar pole contributions. We use a chiral invariant Lagrangian to describe the interactions between the pseudo-Goldstones from the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking and the massive meson resonances. We will consider just the lightest vector and pseudoscalar resonance multiplets. Photon interactions and flavor breaking effects …
The recent measurement of the $W$ boson mass by the CDF collaboration adds an anomaly to the long-standing discrepancy in the muon anomalous magnetic moment, $Δa_μ$. Although type-X in the two-Higgs-doublet model provides an attractive solution to $Δa_μ$ through a light pseudoscalar $A$, the model confronts the exotic Higgs decays of $h\to AA$ and the lepton flavor universality data in the $τ$ and $Z$ decays. To save the model, we propose that the light pseudoscalar be Higgs-phobic. Through the random scanning over the entire parameter space, we perform a comparative study of the Higgs-phobic …
In this communication we discuss few topics related with modern experimental data on the physics of light pseudoscalar mesons. It includes the contribution of the pseudoscalar mesons to the muon anomalous magnetic moment (AMM), $g-2$, the rare decays of light pseudoscalar mesons to lepton pair, the transition form factors of pseudoscalar mesons at large momentum transfer, the pion transversity form factor. Measuring the muon anomalous magnetic moment $g-2$ and the rare decays of light pseudoscalar mesons into lepton pair $P\rightarrow l^{+}l^{-} $ serve as important test of the standard model.…
Measuring the muon anomalous magnetic moment g-2 and the rare decays of light pseudoscalar mesons into lepton pair P \to l+l- serve as important test of the standard model. To reduce the theoretical uncertainty in the standard model predictions the data on the transition form factors of light pseudoscalar mesons play significant role. Recently new data on behavior of these form factors at large momentum transfer was supplied by the BABAR collaboration. We comment on the (in)consistency of these data with perturbative QCD expectation.
Despite recent developments, there are a number of conceptual issues on the hadronic light-by-light (HLbL) contribution to the muon $(g-2)$ which remain unresolved. One of the most controversial ones is the precise way in which short-distance constraints get saturated by resonance exchange, particularly in the so-called Melnikov-Vainshtein (MV) limit. In this paper we address this and related issues from a novel perspective, employing a warped five-dimensional model as a tool to generate a consistent realization of QCD in the large-$N_c$ limit. This approach differs from previous ones in that …
An Effective Field Theory (EFT) analysis of the magnetic moment of the muon is discussed. The expression for the dipole moment is given in terms of operator coefficients of the low-energy effective field theory (LEFT) and the Standard Model effective field theory (SMEFT), where one-loop renormalization group improved perturbation theory, the one-loop matching from SMEFT onto LEFT as well as one-loop lepton matrix elements of the effective-theory operators were taken into account. Interestingly only a very limited set of the SMEFT operators is able to explain the current deviation of the magnet…
We study the electric dipole moment (EDM) and the anomalous magnetic dipole moment (MDM) of the muon in the CP-violating Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM). We take into account the contributions from the chargino- and neutralino-mediated one-loop graphs and the dominant two-loop Higgs-mediated Barr-Zee diagrams. We improve earlier calculations by incorporating CP-violating Higgs-boson mixing effects and the resummed threshold corrections to the Yukawa couplings of the charged leptons as well as that of the bottom quark. The analytic correlation between the muon EDM …
We propose a leptoquark model simultaneously to explain anomalies of muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment and $b\to s μ\barμ$ in light of experimental reports very recently. Here, we satisfy several stringent constraints such as $μ\to eγ$ and meson mixings. In addition, we find these leptoquarks also play an role in generating tiny neutrino masses at one-loop level without introducing any additional symmetries. We have numerical analysis and show how degrees our parameter space is restricted.
The electric dipole moment of the muon (d_mu) is evaluated in supersymmetric models with nonzero neutrino masses and large neutrino mixing arising from the seesaw mechanism. It is found that if the seesaw mechanism is embedded in the framework of a left-right symmetric gauge structure, the interactions responsible for the right-handed neutrino Majorana masses lead to an enhancement in d_mu. We find d_mu as large as 5. 10^{-23} ecm with a correlated value of (g-2) = 13. 10^{-10}, even for low values of tan beta. This should provide a strong motivation for improving the edm of the muon to the le…
We show that inclusion of a single generation of vector-like leptons in the Two-Higgs Doublet Models significantly enlarges the allowed parameter space consistent with the muon anomalous magnetic moment, as well as with other theoretical and experimental constraints. While previously $(g -2)_μ$ could only be resolved in Type-X scenario by requiring a light pseudoscalar Higgs boson and large $\tan β$, contributions of vector-like leptons via two-loop Barr Zee diagrams broaden the allowed parameter space, allowing $\tan β$ as low as 10 and pseudoscalar masses as large as $\cal{O}$(1 TeV) while f…
We investigate the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment (MDM), the muon electric dipole moment (EDM) and the lepton-flavour-violating decays of the $τ-$lepton, $τ\to μγ$ and $τ\to 3μ$, in the CP-violating Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with nonuniversal soft-supersymmetry breaking. We evaluate numerically the muon EDM and the branching ratios $B(τ\to μγ)$ and $B(τ\to 3μ)$, after taking into account the experimental constraints from the electron EDM and muon MDM. Upon imposition of the experimental limits on our theoretical predictions for the aforementioned branching ratios and …
The model (Lagrangian) with a peculiar extra U(1)is clearly presented. The assigned extra U(1) gauge charges give a strong constraint to build Lagrangians. The Z' discovery limits are estimated and predicted at the Tevatron and the LHC. The new contributions of the muon anomalous magnetic moment are investigated at one and two loops, and we predict that the deviation from the standard model may be explained. The electron electric dipole moment could also be generated because of the explicit CP violation effect in the Higgs sector, and a sizable contribution is expected for a moderately sized C…
The recent measurement of the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment shows 2.6$σ$ deviation of $a_μ$ from the standard model prediction which can be explained by a chargino-sneutrino loop correction in the supersymmetric models. In this paper we consider extra U(1) models where the $μ$ parameter is radiatively generated. This model predicts the sign of $μ$ is positive in wide parameter regions. But even the 2$σ$ constraint causes a serious contradiction to the experimental bound of the extra neutral gauge boson mass. Although a minimal supergravity scenario is ruled out, a very small window is …
We study the prospects and opportunities of a large muon electric dipole moment (EDM) of the order (10^{-24} - 10^{-22}) ecm. We investigate how natural such a value is within the general minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model with CP violation from lepton flavor violation in view of the experimental constraints. In models with hybrid gauge-gravity mediated supersymmetry breaking a large muon EDM is indicative for the structure of flavor breaking at the Planck scale, and points towards a high messenger scale.
Electric dipole moments (EDMs) of elementary particles are powerful probes of new physics with flavor-diagonal CP violation. The reported discrepancy in the muon anomalous magnetic moment motivates us to explore to what extent new physics with flavor-diagonal CP violation to address the discrepancy is probed by searches for the muon EDM. As a benchmark, we focus on a CP-violating two-Higgs-doublet model to explain the muon $g-2$ anomaly where the muon exclusively couples to one Higgs doublet. Since contributions to flavor violating processes as well as the electron EDM are suppressed, the muon…
