A solvable current-current deformation of the worldsheet theory of strings on $AdS_3$ has been recently conjectured to be dual to an irrelevant deformation of the spacetime orbifold CFT, commonly referred to as single-trace $T\bar{T}$. These deformations give rise to a family of bulk geometries which realize a non-trivial flow towards the UV. For a particular sign of this deformation, the corresponding three-dimensional geometry approaches $AdS_3$ in the interior, but has a curvature singularity at finite radius, beyond which there are closed timelike curves. It has been suggested that this singularity is due to the presence of "negative branes," which are exotic objects that generically change the metric signature. We propose an alternative UV-completion for these geometries by cutting and gluing to a regular background which approaches a linear dilaton vacuum in the UV. In the S-dual picture, a singularity resolution mechanism known as the enhançon induces this transition by the formation of a shell of $D5$-branes at a fixed radial position near the singularity. The solutions involving negative branes gain a new interpretation in this context.
Using N=2 off-shell supergravity in five dimensions, we supersymmetrize the brane world scenario of Randall and Sundrum. We extend their construction to include supersymmetric matter at the fixpoints.
According to the generalized GKZ system for CY manifold with brane and the open-closed Mirror map, We calculate the off-shell D-Brane/F-Theory effective superpotentials and Ooguri-Vafa invariants of several compact Calabi-Yau manifolds .
We use the AdS/CFT duality to study the special point on the Coulomb branch of ${\cal N}=4$ SU(N) gauge theory which corresponds to a spherically symmetric shell of D3-branes. This point is of interest both because the spacetime region inside the shell is flat, and because this configuration gives a very simple example of the transition between D-branes in the perturbative string regime and the non-perturbative regime of black holes. We discuss how this geometry is described in the dual gauge theory, through its effect on the two-point functions and Wilson loops. In the calculation of the two-…
We demonstrate that, if the usual phenomenological compactifications of IIB string theory with warped throats and anti-branes make sense, there must exist spherical brane shells in 4d that are overcharged. They correspond to classical over-extremal objects but without the usual naked singularities. The objects are made from D3-particles that puff into spherical 5-branes that stabilise at finite radii in 4d and whose inside corresponds to the supersymmetric AdS vacuum. One can think of these shells as stabilised Brown-Teitelboim bubbles. We find that these objects can be significantly larger th…
We show that the covariant effective action for M5-brane is a solution to the Hamilton-Jacobi (H-J) equations of 11-dimensional supergravity. The solution to the H-J equations reproduces the supergravity solution that represents the M2-M5 bound states.
The stability of the shell of wrapped D6-branes on K3 is investigated from the point of view of supergravity. We first construct an effective energy-momentum tensor for the shell under the reasonable conditions and show that supersymmetric solutions satisfy Israel's junction conditions at arbitrary radius of the shell. Next we study the perturbation of the whole system including the self-gravity of the shell. It is found that in spite of the existence of wrapped D6-branes with negative tension, there is no eigenmode whose frequencies of the shell and the fields are imaginary numbers, at any ra…
We use compatibility of the second fundamental form corrections to DBI action at order $α'^2$ which includes trace of the second fundamental form, with T-duality and with the linear S-duality as guiding principles to find an off-shell D-brane action at order $α'^2$ in type II superstring theories in flat spcetime.
In the present paper we explicitly construct the on-shell supersymmetric component action for a 3-brane moving in D=8 within the nonlinear realizations framework. Similarly to the previously considered case of the super 3-brane in D=6, all ingredients entering the component action follow from the nonlinear realizations approach. The component action of the 3-brane possesses N=4, d=4 supersymmetry partially broken to N=2, d=4 one. The basic Goldstone superfield is the generalized version of N=2,d=4 hypermultiplet. The action has a structure, such that all terms of higher orders in the fermions …
M5-branes wrapping a holomorphic curve in a Calabi-Yau manifold can be used to construct four-dimensional N=1 gauge theories. In this paper we will consider M5-brane configurations corresponding to N=2 theories broken to N=1 by a superpotential for the adjoint scalar field. These M5-brane configurations can be obtained by lifting suitable intersecting brane configurations in type IIA, or equivalently by T-dualizing IIB configurations with branes and/or fluxes. We will show that turning on non-trivial expectation values for the glueball superfields corresponds to non-holomorphic deformations of…
Higher derivative terms are computed in the one-loop effective action governing the interactions of D3-branes, in two ways: (1) in a formalism with N=2 supersymmetry preserved off-shell, and (2) in the standard background field formalism, with only on-shell supersymmetry. It is shown that these calculations only agree using tree-level equations of motion. The off-shell supersymmetric calculation exhibits acceleration terms that appear in terms with four derivatives. These may imply disagreement at two-loop order between supergravity and Yang-Mills descriptions of D-brane dynamics.
In the present and accompanying papers we explicitly construct the on-shell supersymmetric component actions for 3-branes moving in D=6 and in D=8 within the nonlinear realizations framework. In the first paper we apply our schema to construct the action of supersymmetric 3-brane in D=6. It turns out that all ingredients entering the component action can be obtained almost algorithmically by using the nonlinear realizations approach. Within this approach, properly adapted to the construction of on-shell component actions, we pay much attention to broken supersymmetry. Doing so, we were able to…
States obtained by projecting boundary states, associated with D-branes, to fixed mass-level and momentum generically define non-trivial cohomology classes. For on-shell states the cohomology is the standard one, but when the states are off-shell the relevant cohomology is defined using a BRST operator with ghost zero modes removed. The zero momentum cohomology falls naturally into multiplets of $SO(D-1,1)$. At the massless level, a simple set of D-brane configurations generates the full set of zero-momentum states of standard ghost number, including the discrete states. We give a general cons…
Actions for branes, with or without worldsurface gauge fields, are discussed in a unified framework. A simple algorithm is given for constructing the component Green-Schwarz actions. Superspace actions are also discussed. Three examples are given to illustrate the general procedure: the membrane in D=11 and the D2-brane, which both have on-shell worldsurface supermultiplets, and the membrane in D=4, which has an off-shell multiplet.
In any gravitational theory and in a wide class of background space-times, we argue that there exists a simple, yet profound, relation between the on-shell Euclidean gravitational action and the on-shell Euclidean action of probes. The probes can be, for instance, charged particles or branes. The relation is tightly related to the thermodynamic nature of gravity. We provide precise checks of the relation in several examples, which include both asymptotically flat and asymptotically AdS space-times, with particle, D-brane and M-brane probes. Perfect consistency is found in all cases, including …
We present an on-shell formulation of 5d gauged supergravity coupled to chiral matter multiplets localized at the orbifold fixed points. The brane action is constructed via the Noether method. In such set-up we compute one-loop corrections to the Kahler potential of the effective 4d supergravity and compare the result with previous computations based on the off-shell formalism. The results agree at lowest order in brane sources, however at higher order there are differences. We explain this discrepancy by an ambiguity in resolving singularities associated with the presence of infinitely thin b…
We first review the canonical formalism with general space-like hypersurfaces developed by Dirac by rederiving the Hamilton-Jacobi equations which are satisfied by on-shell actions defined on such hypersurfaces. We compare the case of gravitational systems with that of the flat space. Next, we remark as a supplement to our previous results that the effective actions of D-brane and M-brane given by arbitrary embedding functions are on-shell actions of supergravities.
We demonstrate that, in an appropriate limit, the off-shell M5-brane worldvolume action effectively captures the scalar potential of Seiberg-Witten theory perturbed by a small superpotential and, consequently, any nonsupersymmetric vacua that it describes. This happens in a similar manner to the emergence from M5's of the scalar potential describing certain type IIB flux configurations [arXiv:0705.0983]. We then construct exact nonholomorphic M5 configurations in the special case of SU(2) Seiberg-Witten theory deformed by a degree six superpotential which correspond to the recently discovered …
We study codimension one branes, i.e. p-branes in (p+2)-dimensions, in the superembedding approach for the cases where the worldvolume superspace is embedded in a minimal target superspace with half supersymmetry breaking. This singles out the cases p=1,2,3,5,9. For p=3,5,9 the superembedding geometry naturally involves a fundamental super 2-form potential on the worldvolume whose generalised field strength obeys a constraint deducible from considering an open supermembrane ending on the p-brane. This constraint, together with the embedding constraint, puts the system on-shell for p=5 but over…
We consider the N=2 gauge theory on N D7-branes wrapping K3, with D3-brane probes. In the large N limit, the D7-branes blow up to form an enhancon shell. We probe the region inside and outside the enhancon shell using the D3-branes, and compute the probe metric using the Seiberg-Witten formalism. Supergravity arguments suggest a flat interior up to 1/N corrections, and indeed our results for the D3-brane probes are consistent with that. By including the dynamics of the branes, these results, together with those of hep-th/0204050, demonstrate the robustness of the enhancon mechanism beyond patc…
We prove the no-go theorem that the gravivector $(h_{5μ})$ and graviscalar $(h_{55})$ cannot have any on-shell propagation on the Randall-Sundrum (RS) brane. For this purpose, we analyze all of their linearized equations with the de Donder gauge (5D transverse-tracefree gauge). But we do not introduce any matter source. We use the Z$_2$-symmetry argument and their ($h_{5μ}, h_{55}$) compatibility conditions with the tensor $h_{\mn}$-equation. It turns out that $h_{55}$ does not have any bulk (massive) and brane (massless) propagations. Although $h_{5μ}$ has a sort of massive propagations, they…
By utilizing non-standard slicings of 5-dimensional Schwarzschild and Schwarzschild-AdS manifolds based on isotropic coordinates, we generate static and spherically symmetric braneworld spacetimes containing shell-like naked null singularities. For planar slicings, we find that the brane-matter sourcing the solution is a perfect fluid with an exotic equation of state and a pressure singularity where the brane crosses the bulk horizon. From a relativistic point of view, such a singularity is required to maintain matter infinitesimally above the surface of a black hole. From the point of view of…
We discuss general supersymmetric brane configurations in flux backgrounds of string and M-theory and derive a necessary condition for the worldvolume theory to be supersymmetric on a given curved manifold. This condition resembles very much the conditions found from coupling a supersymmetric field theory to off-shell supergravity but can be derived in any dimension and for up to sixteen supercharges. Apart from the topological twist, all couplings appearing in the supersymmetry condition are linked to fluxes in the bulk. We explicitly derive the condition for D3-, M2- and M5-branes, in which …
This paper extends the study, initiated by Rozowsky and Thorn [1], of gauge fields in interaction with Dirac fields living on separated parallel 1-branes. In a lightcone description, replacing static point sources by 1-brane sources allows p^+ conservation to be maintained in their presence, which simplifies the lightcone quantization procedure. Here we calculate on-shell branion scattering amplitudes through 1 loop in lightcone gauge, and thereby resolve a puzzling ambiguity encountered in the off-shell calculations of [1]. We confirm that infrared divergences cancel in properly defined scatt…
We study the dynamics of probe M5 branes with dissolved M2 charge in bubbling geometries with SO(4) x SO(4) symmetry. These solutions were constructed by Bena-Warner and Lin-Lunin-Maldacena and correspond to the vacua of the maximally supersymmetric mass-deformed M2 brane theory. We find that supersymmetric probe M2 branes polarize into M5 brane shells whose backreaction creates an additional bubble in the geometry. We explicitly check that the supersymmetric polarization potential agrees with the one found within the Polchinski-Strassler approximation. The main result of this paper is that pr…
General hypersurface layers are considered in order to describe brane-worlds and shell cosmologies. No restriction is placed on the causal character of the hypersurface which may thus have internal changes of signature. Strengthening the results in our previous letter [1], we confirm that a good, regular and consistent description of signature change is achieved in these brane/shells scenarios, while keeping the hypersurface and the bulk completely regular. Our formalism allows for a unified description of the traditional timelike branes/shells together with the signature-changing, or pure nul…
We consider the collision of self-gravitating n-branes in a (n+2)-dimensional spacetime. We show that there is a geometrical constraint which can be expressed as a simple sum rule for angles characterizing Lorentz boosts between branes and the intervening spacetime regions. This constraint can then be re-interpreted as either energy or momentum conservation at the collision.
In this paper we study thick-shell braneworld models in the presence of a Gauss-Bonnet term. We discuss the peculiarities of the attainment of the thin-shell limit in this case and compare them with the same situation in Einstein gravity. We describe the two simplest families of thick-brane models (parametrized by the shell thickness) one can think of. In the thin-shell limit, one family is characterized by the constancy of its internal density profile (a simple structure for the matter sector) and the other by the constancy of its internal curvature scalar (a simple structure for the geometri…
In the on-shell formulation of $D=5 $, N=2 supergravity, compactified on $S^1/Z_2$, we extend the results of Mirabelli and Peskin describing the interaction of the bulk fields with matter which is assumed to be confined on the brane. The novel characteristics of this approach are : Propagation of both gravity and gauge fields in the bulk, which offers an alternative for a unified description of models in extra dimensions and use of the on-shell formulation avoiding the complexity of off-shell schemes which involve numerous auxiliary fields. We also allow for nontrivial superpotential interacti…
We derive the mass shell condition for N coincident D0 branes in codimension two i.e. in space-time dimension three. Using this we present the action for this system in first order formalism. Our analysis is restricted to flat space-time.
We investigate negative tension branes as stable thin shell wormholes in Reissner-Nordstrom-(anti) de Sitter spacetimes in $d$ dimensional Einstein gravity. Imposing Z2 symmetry, we construct and classify traversable static thin shell wormholes in spherical, planar (or cylindrical) and hyperbolic symmetries. In spherical geometry, we find the higher dimensional counterpart of Barcelo and Visser's wormholes, which are stable against spherically symmetric perturbations. We also find the classes of thin shell wormholes in planar and hyperbolic symmetries with a negative cosmological constant, whi…
Recently a description of linearized 5D supergravity in 4D, N =1 superspace was presented. By analyzing the on-shell component Lagrangian, this description was proven to be Lorentz invariant in five dimensions. This paper describes a geometric formulation of the 5D supergravity in 4D, N =1 superspace. Using this new formalism, the on-shell structure of the previous description is verified from purely superspace methods. This geometric description provides a connection to dimensionally reduced manifestly supersymmetric 5D supergravity.
We study the BSFT actions by using an analytic continuation in momentum space. We compute various two- and three- point functions for some low-lying excitations including massive states on BPS/non-BPS D-branes. The off-shell two-point functions for the tachyon, the gauge field and the massive fields are found to reproduce the well-known string mass-shell conditions. We compare our action with the tachyon actions previously obtained by the derivative expansion (or the linear tachyon profiles), and find complete agreement. Furthermore, we reproduce the correct on-shell value of the tachyon-tachy…
We perform a Hodge theoretic study of parameter dependent families of D-branes on compact Calabi-Yau manifolds in type II and F-theory compactifcations. Starting from a geometric Gauss-Manin connection for B type branes we study the integrability and flatness conditions. The B model geometry defines an interesting ring structure of operators. For the mirror A model this indicates the existence of an open-string extension of the so-called A model connection, whereas the discovered ring structure should be part of the open-string A model quantum cohomology. We obtain predictions for genuine Oogu…
We consider the dynamics of a single probe brane on various cosmological brane backgrounds. The on-shell condition of the static probe brane leads to the supersymmetric intersection rules for static BPS configurations, though the cosmological backgrounds do not preserve any supersymmetries. This is a remarkable feature associated with the cosmological backgrounds because in the static background the on-shell condition of the static brane gives no constraint on the brane configuration. Furthermore, it follows that under this condition there is no velocity-independent force for the probe brane e…
We give a brief account of the recently proposed N=3 superfield formulation of the N=6, 3D superconformal theory of Aharony et al (ABJM) describing a low-energy limit of the system of multiple M2-branes on the AdS_4 x S^7/Z_k background. This formulation is given in harmonic N=3 superspace and reveals a number of surprising new features. In particular, the sextic scalar potential of ABJM arises at the on-shell component level as the result of eliminating appropriate auxiliary fields, while there is no any explicit superpotential at the off-shell superfield level.
We develop some computational methods for the integrals over the 3-chains on the compact Calabi-Yau 3-folds that plays a prominent role in the analysis of the topological B-model in the context of the open mirror symmetry. We discuss such 3-chain integrals in two approaches. In the first approach, we provide a systematic algorithm to obtain the inhomogeneous Picard-Fuchs equations. In the second approach, we discuss the analytic continuation of the period integral to compute the 3-chain integral directly. The latter direct integration method is applicable for both on-shell and off-shell formal…
We first illustrate on a simple example how, in existing brane cosmological models, the connection of a 'bulk' region to its mirror image creates matter on the 'brane'. Next, we present a cosmological model with no $Z_2$ symmetry which is a spherical symmetric 'shell' separating two metrically different 5-dimensional anti-de Sitter regions. We find that our model becomes Friedmannian at late times, like present brane models, but that its early time behaviour is very different: the scale factor grows from a non-zero value at the big bang singularity. We then show how the Israel matching conditi…
I point out a symmetry, between equations of state for polytropic fluids, in the equation of motion of a spherically symmetric singular shell embedded in 4-d and 5-d vacuum spacetimes. In particular the equation of motion of a shell consisting of radiation has the same form as for a vacuum shell or domain wall.
We study N=(m,0) super-Poincare invariant six-dimensional massless and five-dimensional massive on-shell amplitudes. We demonstrate that in six dimensions, all possible three-point amplitudes involving tensor multiplets are necessarily embedded in gravitational theories. For non-gravitational amplitudes we consider instead five-dimensional massive amplitudes with N=(2,0) supersymmetry, aiming at describing the world volume theory of multiple M5 branes compactified on M^{4,1}x S^1. We find non-gravitational amplitudes whose on-shell degrees of freedom are shown to match those of the massive par…
In this paper, we extend the GKZ-system method to the more general case: compact Complete Intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds (CICY). For several one-deformation modulus compact CICYs with D-branes, the on-shell superpotentials in this paper from the extended GKZ-system method are exactly consistent with published results obtained from other methods. We further compute the off-shell superpotentials of these models. Then we obtain both the on-shell and off-shell superpotentials for sev- eral two-deformation moduli compact CICYs with D-branes by using the extended GKZ-system method. The discrete s…
We study the dynamics of localized and fully backreacting anti-D3 branes at the tip of the Klebanov-Strassler geometry. We use a non-supersymmetric version of the Polchinski-Strassler analysis to compute the potential for anti-D3 branes to polarize into all kinds of five-brane shells in all possible directions. We find that generically there is a direction along which the brane-brane interaction is repulsive, which implies that anti-D3 branes are tachyonic. Hence, even though anti-D3 branes can polarize into five-branes, the solution will most likely be unstable. This indicates that anti-D3 br…
A new way of computing scattering amplitudes in a certain very important QFT (N=4 SYM) has recently been developed, in which an algebraic structure called the positive Grassmannian plays a very important role. The mathematics of the positive Grassmannian involve, among other things, bipartite graphs, which also appear in the formulation of a certain class of conformal field theories that are currently being generalized into Bipartite Field Theories (BFT). The fact that the same structures appear in two such different realms of physics suggests a deeper connection between the two that is yet to…
The enhancon mechanism removes a family of time-like singularities from certain supergravity spacetimes by forming a shell of branes on which the exterior geometry terminates. The problematic interior geometry is replaced by a new spacetime, which in the prototype extremal case is simply flat. We show that this excision process, made inevitable by stringy phenomena such as enhanced gauge symmetry and the vanishing of certain D-branes' tension at the shell, is also consistent at the purely gravitational level. The source introduced at the excision surface between the interior and exterior geome…
It is shown how some field theories in the target-space induce the splitting of the space-time into a continuous of branes, which can be p-branes or D-branes depending on what the field theory it is. The basic symmetry underlying the construction is used to build an invariant action, which is proved to be off-shell identical to the p-brane (D-brane) action. The coupling with the abelian ($p+1$)-form in this formulation it is also found. While the classical brane's embedding couple to the field strenght, the classical fields couple with its dual (in the Hodge sense), therefore providing an expl…
Taking the Randall-Sundrum models as background scenario, we derive generalized Israel-Lanczos-Sen thin-shell junction conditions for systems in which several bulk scalar fields are non-minimally coupled to gravity. We demonstrate that the form of the junction conditions (though arguably not the physics) depends on the choice of frame. We show that generally (in any frame except the Einstein frame) the presence of a thin shell induces discontinuities in the normal derivative of the scalar field, even in the absence of any direct interaction between the thin shell and the scalar field. For some…
We construct a manifestly diffeomorphic M5-brane action in dual formulation coupled to an eleven-dimensional supergravity target space. The covariantisation is carried out by using (generalised) PST technique with 5 auxiliary scalar fields, which are obtained by using a geometrical consideration as a reduction of an auxiliary 4-form of Maznytsia-Preitschopf-Sorokin. As is typical in PST-covariantised theory, our construction possesses as usual the two local PST symmetries. By using one of the local PST symmetries, the action can be reduced to the non-manifestly covariant M5-brane action in dua…
We extend the formalism introduced in the paper hep-th/0209050 to compute correlation functions in the AdS/CFT correspondence. We show how the on-shell action of a scalar field in a compactification of AdS space can be obtained by flowing in the space of (non-local) theories with different sizes of the extra-dimension. Our method is relevant in particular for holographic computations in the Randall-Sundrum scenario with one or two branes and it allows the inclusion of brane-localized actions in a systematic way. The method can also be generalized to other backgrounds and does not rely on expli…
Starting from maximally supersymmetric (2+1)d Yang-Mills theory and using a duality transformation due to de Wit, Nicolai and Samtleben, we obtain the ghost-free Lorentzian 3-algebra theory that has recently been proposed to describe M2-branes. Our derivation does not invoke any properties of 3-algebras. Being derivable from SYM, the final theory is manifestly equivalent to it on-shell and should not be thought of as the IR limit that describes M2-branes, though it does have enhanced R-symmetry as well as superconformal symmetry off-shell.

We construct novel $7d$ supersymmetric gauge theories which include a Chern-Simons-like term on curved spaces. In order to so, we examine the supersymmetry constraints for E7-branes in type IIA$^*$ theory, rather than making use of an off-shell supergravity. We find two classes of solutions to the constraints, expressed in terms of a $G_2$-structure with non-vanishing intrinsic torsion. The supersymmetric gauge theories are then obtained by coupling flat gauge theory to such supersymmetric backgrounds. Various examples are given, including round and squashed $S^7$ as well as $S^3 \times M_4$ w…
We discuss the proposal of Hata and Kawano for the tachyon fluctuation around a solution of vacuum string field theory representing a D25 brane. We give a conformal field theory construction of their state -- a local insertion of a tachyon vertex operator on the sliver surface state, and explain why the on-shell momentum condition emerges correctly. We also show that a naive computation of the D25-brane tension using data for the three point coupling of this state gives an answer that is $(π^2/3)(16/27\ln 2)^3 \simeq 2.0558$ times the expected answer. We demonstrate that this problem arises be…
In his pioneering work on singular shells in general relativity, Lanczos had derived jump conditions across energy-momentum carrying hypersurfaces from the Einstein equation with codimension 1 sources. However, on the level of the action, the discontinuity of the connection arising from a codimension 1 energy-momentum source requires to take into account two adjacent space-time regions separated by the hypersurface. The purpose of the present note is to draw attention to the fact that Lanczos' jump conditions can be derived from an Einstein action but not from an Einstein-Hilbert action.
Using ideas from the brane world cosmological perturbation theory, we make linear stability analysis of dynamic thin shell wormholes constructed by cutting-and-pasting two building-block spacetime at arbitrary joining shell radiuses. We observed that in appropriate parameter choices, dynamical thin shell wormholes following from such a cut-and-paste procedure can be kept stable during the whole evolution process towards the final extreme point on which the joining-shell radius arrives on static values. Our work forms a valuable complementarity to previous analysis basing on virtual radial pert…
We construct a supergravity background corresponding to a backreacted D0/D4-brane system. The background is holographically dual to the Venecianno limit of the Berkoos-Douglas matrix model. It is known that the localized D0/D4 system is unstable when the D0-branes are within the D4-branes. To circumvent this difficulty we separate the D4s from the D0s, which are placed at the origin, and restore the symmetry of the combined system by distributing the D4-branes on a spherical shell around the D0-branes. The backreacted solution is first obtained perturbatively in N_f/N_c and displayed analytica…
A canonical action describing the interaction of chiral gauge fields in D=6 Minkowski space-time is constructed. In a particular partial gauge fixing it reduces to the action found by Perry and Schwarz. The additional gauge symmetries are used to show the off-shell equivalence of the dimensional reduction to D=5 Minkowski space-time of the chiral gauge field canonical action and the Born-Infeld canonical action describing an interacting D=5 Abelian vector field. Its extension to improve the on-shell equivalence arguments of dual D-brane actions to off-shell ones is discussed.
We review on a recent construction of the on-shell supersymmetric brane action for the codimension-two branes with nonzero tension in the flux compactification of a 6D chiral gauged supergravity. On dimesionally reducing on 4D gauged supergravity for a new supersymmetric unwarped background with conical branes, we consider the modulus stabilization for determining the soft masses of the scalars localized on the branes and show that the bulk U(1)_R provides a new mechanism for mediating the SUSY breaking.
We construct new solutions of ten-dimensional supergravity with sixteen supercharges which describe the backreaction of D$p$-branes with spherical worldvolume. These solutions are holographically dual to the $(p+1)$-dimensional maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on $S^{p+1}$. The finite size of the sphere provides an IR cut-off for the gauge theory which is manifested in the supergravity solution as a smooth cap-off of the geometry. In the UV the size of the sphere plays no role and the backgrounds asymptote to the well-known supergravity solutions that describe the near-horizon limit …
