In this paper we model low-lying states of atomic nuclei in the nucleon-pair approximation of the shell model, using three approaches to select collective nucleon pairs: the generalized seniority scheme, the conjugate gradient method, and the Hartree-Fock approach. We find the collective pairs obtained from the generalized seniority scheme provides a good description for nearly spherical nuclei, and those from the conjugate gradient method or the Hartree-Fock approach work well for transitional and deformed nuclei. Our NPA calculations using collective pairs with angular momenta 0, 2, and 4 (denoted by $SDG$ pairs) reproduce the nuclear shape evolution in the $N=26$ isotones, $^{46}$Ca, $^{48}$Ti, $^{50}$Cr, and $^{52}$Fe, and yield good agreement with full configuration-interaction calculations of low-lying states in medium-heavy transitional and deformed nuclei: $^{44-48}$Ti, $^{48}$Cr, $^{50}$Cr, $^{52}$Fe, $^{60-64}$Zn, $^{64,66}$Ge, $^{84}$Mo, and $^{108-112}$Xe. Finally, using the $SDGI$-pair approximation we describe low-lying states of $^{112,114}$Ba, cases difficult to reach by conventional configuration-interaction methods.
A study of the shape transition from spherical to axially deformed nuclei in the even Ce isotopes using the nucleon-pair approximation of the shell model is reported. As long as the structure of the dominant collective pairs is determined using a microscopic framework appropriate to deformed nuclei, the model is able to produce a shape transition. However, the resulting transition is too rapid, with nuclei that should be transitional being fairly well deformed, perhaps reflecting the need to maintain several pairs with each angular momentum.
We construct a coherent state of q-deformed zero coupled nucleon pairs distributed in several single-particle orbits. Using a variational approach, the set of equations of qBCS theory, to be solved self consistently for occupation probabilities, gap parameter Delta, and the chemical potential lambda, is obtained. Results for valence nucleons in nuclear degenerate sdg major shell show that the strongly coupled zero angular momentum nucleon pairs can be substituted by weakly coupled q-deformed zero angular momentum nucleon pairs. A study of Sn isotopes reveals a well defined universe of (G, q) v…
Nucleon momentum distribution (NMD), particularly its high-momentum components, is essential for understanding the nucleon--nucleon ($ NN $) correlations in nuclei. Herein, we develop the studies of NMD of $^{56}\text{Fe}$ from the axially deformed relativistic mean-field (RMF) model. Moreover, we introduce the effects of $ NN $ correlation into the RMF model from phenomenological models based on deuteron and nuclear matter. For the region $ k<k_{\text{F}} $, the effects of deformation on the NMD of the RMF model are investigated using the total and single-particle NMDs. For the region $ k>k_{…
We present analytic expressions of the Coulomb interaction between a spherical and a deformed nuclei which are valid for all separation distance. We demonstrate their significant deviations from commonly used formulae in the region inside the Coulomb radius, and show that they remove various shortcomings of the conventional formulae.
The nucleon-pair approximation (NPA) can be a compact alternative to full configuration-interaction (FCI) diagonalization in nuclear shell-model spaces, but selecting good pairs is a long-standing problem. While seniority-based pairs work well for near-spherical nuclides, they do not work well for deformed nuclides with strong rotational bands. We propose an alternate approach. We show how one can write any Slater determinant for an even number of particles as a general pair condensate, from which one can project out pairs of good angular momentum. We implement this by generating unconstrained…
We outline a formalism to carry out TDHF calculations of fusion cross sections for spherical + deformed nuclei. The procedure incorporates the dynamic alignment of the deformed nucleus into the calculation of the fusion cross section. The alignment results from multiple E2/E4 Coulomb excitation of the ground state rotational band. Implications for TDHF fusion calculations are discussed. TDHF calculations are done in an unrestricted three-dimensional geometry using modern Skyrme force parametrizations.
A phenomenological level density model that has different level density parameter sets for the state densities of the deformed and the spherical states, and the optimization of the parameters using experimental data of the average s-wave neutron resonance spacing are presented. The transition to the spherical state from the deformed one is described using the parameters derived from a microscopic nuclear structure calculation. The nuclear reaction calculation has been performed by the statistical model using the present level density. Resulting cross sections for various reactions with the sph…
Using an angular momentum projected single particle basis, a pnQRPA approach is used to study the $2νββ$ properties of ten isotopes, exhibiting various quadrupole deformations. The mother and daughter nuclei exhibit different quadrupole deformations. Since the projected basis enables a unified description of deformed and spherical nuclei, situations where the nuclei involved in the double beta decay process are both spherical, both deformed or one spherical and another deformed, can be treated through a sole formalism. Dependence of single $β^-$ and $β^+$ strength distribution on atomic mass n…
The effect of deformation on the excitation of multiple giant dipole resonances is studied. Analytical expressions are derived in the framework of the interacting boson model for the energies and E1 properties of giant dipole resonances in spherical and deformed nuclei, and a numerical treatment of transitional nuclei is proposed. Coulomb-excitation cross sections are calculated in $^{238}$U and in the samarium isotopes.
There has been increasing interest in studying the Richardson model from which one can derive the exact solution for certain pairing Hamiltonians. However, it is still a numerical challenge to solve the nonlinear equations involved. In this paper we tackle this problem by employing a simple hybrid polynomial approach. The method is found to be robust and is valid for both deformed and nearly spherical nuclei. It also provides important and convenient initial guesses for spherical systems with large degeneracy. As an example, we apply the method to study the shape coexistence in neutron-rich Ni…
We developed new parameterizations of local regularized finite-range pseudopotentials up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO), used as generators of nuclear density functionals. When supplemented with zero-range spin-orbit and density-dependent terms, they provide a correct single-reference description of binding energies and radii of spherical and deformed nuclei. We compared the obtained results to experimental data and discussed benchmarks against the standard well-established Gogny D1S functional.
We present a formalism to solve the Bethe-Goldstone scattering equation without the use of partial wave expansion which is alternative to the one we developed in a previous work. The present approach is more suitable for the calculation of in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross sections, which are the focal point of this paper. The impact of removing the spherical approximation on the angle and energy dependence of, particularly, in-medium proton-proton and proton-neutron differential cross sections is discussed along with its potential implication.
We developed the deformed proton-neutron quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) and applied to the evaluation of the Gamow-Teller (GT) transition strength distributions including high-lying excited states, which data becomes recently available beyond one or two nucleon threshold by charge exchange reactions using hundreds of MeV projectiles. Our calculations started with single-particle states calculated by a deformed axially symmetric Woods-Saxon potential. Neutron-neutron and proton-proton pairing correlations are explicitly taken into account at the deformed Bardeen Cooper Schriffe…
A method to implement realistic nucleon-nucleon residual interaction (Bonn CD force) based on the Brueckner G-matrix into the Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA) for deformed nuclei is formulated. The two-neutrino double decay for ground state to ground state transitions $^{76}$Ge$ \to ^{76}$Se and $^{150}$Nd $\to ^{150}$Sm is calculated along with the Gamow-Teller strength distributions. The effect of deformation on the observables is studied.
Core-particle coupling models are made viable by assuming that core properties such as matrix elements of multipole and pairing operators and excitation spectra are known independently. From the completeness relation, it is seen, however, that these quantities are themselves algebraic functions of the calculated core-particle amplitudes. For the deformed rare-earth nucleus 158Gd, we find that these sum rules are well-satisfied for the ground state band, implying that we have found a self-consistent solution of the non-linear Kerman-Klein equations.
An increasing interest in multinucleon transfer processes in low-energy deep inelastic (damped) collisions of heavy ions appeared in recent years is due, in part, to by the possibility of using them as a method of production of heavy neutron-enriched nuclei. Possible promising projectile-target combinations include nuclei deformed in the ground state (e.g., actinides). Mutual orientations of such the nuclei in the entrance channel of the reaction may significantly influence the reaction dynamics. Available experimental data on multinucleon transfer reactions with statically deformed as well as…
Using deformed shell model based on Hartree-Fock intrinsic states with $^{70}$Zn as an example and employing two realistic effective interactions, namely jj44b that produces deformed shape and JUN45 that generates spherical shape, it is demonstrated that the $0ν$ and $2ν$ nuclear transition matrix elements for double beta decay will reduce considerably as we go from spherical shapes to deformed shapes. This result is further substantiated by using $^{150}$Nd as another example.
The coupled-channel theory is a natural way of treating nonelastic channels, in particular those arising from collective excitations characterized by nuclear deformations. A proper treatment of such excitations is often essential to the accurate description of experimental nuclear-reaction data and to the prediction of a wide variety of scattering observables. Stimulated by recent work substantiating the near validity of the adiabatic approximation in coupled-channel calculations for scattering on statically deformed nuclei, we explore the possibility of generalizing a global spherical optical…
Magnetic form factors corresponding to elastic electron scattering from odd-A nuclei are presented. The calculations are carried out in plane-wave Born approximation. The one-body properties are obtained in a deformed self-consistent mean-field calculation based on a Skyrme HF+BCS method. Collective effects are also included in the cranking approximation. Results on several stable nuclei are compared with the available experimental information. It is shown that a deformed formalism improves the agreement with experiment in deformed nuclei, while reproducing equally well spherical nuclei by tak…
A Fortran program for the calculation of the ground state properties of axially deformed even-even nuclei in the relativistic framework is presented. In this relativistic mean field (RMF) approach a set of coupled differential equations namely the Dirac equation with potential terms for the nucleons and the Glein-Gordon type equations with sources for the meson and the electromagnetic fields are to be solved self-consistently. The well tested basis expansion method is used for this purpose. Accordingly a set of harmonic oscillator basis generated by an axially deformed potential are used in th…
We develop an effective field theory (EFT) for deformed odd-mass nuclei. These are described as an axially symmetric core to which a nucleon is coupled. In the coordinate system fixed to the core the nucleon is subject to an axially symmetric potential. Power counting is based on the separation of scales between low-lying rotations and higher-lying states of the core. In leading order, core and nucleon are coupled by universal derivative terms. These comprise a covariant derivative and gauge potentials which account for Coriolis forces and relate to Berry-phase phenomena. At leading order, the…
Based on the Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) approach the existence of the broken pseudo-spin symmetry is investigated. Both spherical RMF and constrained deformed RMF calculations are carried out employing realistic Lagrangian parameters for spherical and for deformed sample nuclei. The quasi - degenerate pseudo-spin doublets are confirmed to exist near the fermi surface for both spherical and deformed nuclei.
Background: Collective excitations of nuclei and their theoretical descriptions provide an insight into the structure of nuclei. Replacing traditional phenomenological interactions with unitarily transformed realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions increases the predictive power of the theoretical calculations for exotic or deformed nuclei. Purpose: Extend the application of realistic interactions to deformed nuclei and compare the performance of different interactions, including phenomenological interactions, for collective excitations in the sd-shell. Method: Ground-state energies and charge r…
Techniques from effective field theory are applied to nuclear rotation. This approach exploits the spontaneous breaking of rotational symmetry and the separation of scale between low-energy Nambu-Goldstone rotational modes and high-energy vibrational and nucleonic degrees of freedom. A power counting is established and the Hamiltonian is constructed at next-to-leading order.
We present the first calculations of proton elastic and inelastic scattering in which the Pauli blocking operator contains the leading non-spherical components as well as the usual spherical (angle-averaged) part. We develop a formalism for including the contributions to the effective nucleon-nucleon interaction from the resulting new G-matrix elements that extend the usual two-nucleon spin structure and may not conserve angular momentum. We explore the consequences of parity conservation, time reversal invariance, and nucleon-nucleon antisymmetrization for the new effective interaction. Chang…
The neutron skin in deformed nuclei is generally not uniformly distributed but has an angular distribution, depending on both the spin-dependent nuclear interaction and the nuclear symmetry energy. To extract the information of the deformed neutron skin, we have explored the possibility of using free spectator nucleons in central tip-tip and body-body collisions at top RHIC energy with four typical deformed nuclei. The density distributions of neutrons and protons are consistently obtained from the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov calculation, and the angular distribution of the neutron skin can…
Energies and transition probabilities for low lying states in $^{134}$Ba and $^{104$Ru were calculated within a hybrid model. The ground and the first $2^+$ states are described alternatively as a harmonic and anharmonic vibrator states while the remaining states as states with E(5) symmetry. One concludes that a gradual setting of the 'critical' potential yields a better agreement with the experimental data. Very good agreement with the data is obtained for $^{104}$Ru. Comparing the present results with those of E(5) symmetry, it is conspicuous that the present formalism add corrections to the…
Based on the competition between $γ$-stable and $γ$-rigid collective motions mediated by a rigidity parameter, a two-parameter exactly separable version of the Bohr Hamiltonian is proposed. The $γ$-stable part of the Hamiltonian is restricted to stiff oscillations around the $γ$ value of the rigid motion. The separated potential for $β$ and $γ$ shape variables is chosen such that in the lower limit of this parameter, the model recovers exactly the ES-$X(5)$ model, while in the upper limit it tends to the prolate $γ$-rigid solution $X(3)$. The combined effect of the rigidity and stiffness param…
We study the spin-parity distribution P(J$^π$,E) of $^{156}$Gd excited states above the neutron separation energy that are expected to be populated via the neutron pickup reaction $^{157}$Gd($^{3}$He,$^{4}$He)$^{156}$Gd. In general, modeling of the spin-parity distribution is important for the applicability of the surrogate reaction technique as a method of deducing reaction cross sections. We model excited states in $^{156}$Gd as rotational states built on intrinsic states consisting of a hole in the core where the hole represents neutron removal form a deformed single particle state. The rea…
We present an analysis based on the deformed Quasi Particle Random Phase Approximation, on top of a deformed Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov description of the ground state, aimed at studying the isoscalar monopole and quadrupole response in a deformed nucleus. This analysis is motivated by the need of understanding the coupling between the two modes and how it might affect the extraction of the nuclear incompressibility from the monopole distribution. After discussing this motivation, we present the main ingredients of our theoretical framework, and we show some results obtained with the SLy4 and SkM…
The low-energy spectra and B(E2) electromagnetic transition strengths of 159Eu, 159Tb and 159Dy are described using the pseudo SU(3) model. Normal parity bands are built as linear combinations of SU(3) states, which are the direct product of SU(3) proton and neutron states with pseudo spin zero (for even number of nucleons) and pseudo spin 1/2 (for odd number of nucleons). Each of the many-particle states have a well-defined particle number and total angular momentum. The Hamiltonian includes spherical Nilsson single-particle energies, the quadrupole-quadrupole and pairing interactions, as wel…
Spectroscopic observables such as electromagnetic transitions strengths can be related to the properties of the intrinsic mean-field wave function when the latter are strongly deformed, but the standard rotational formulas break down when the deformation decreases. Nevertheless there is a well-defined, non-zero, spherical limit that can be evaluated in terms of overlaps of mean-field intrinsic deformed wave functions. We examine the transition between the spherical limit and strongly deformed one for a range of nuclei comparing the two limiting formulas with exact projection results. We find a…
Large scale shell model calculations, with dimensions reaching 10**9, are carried out to describe the recently observed deformed (ND) and superdeformed (SD) bands based on the first and second excited 0+ states of 40-Ca at 3.35-MeV and 5.21-MeV respectively. A valence space comprising two major oscillator shells, sd and pf, can accommodate most of the relevant degrees of freedom of this problem. The ND band is dominated by configurations with four particles promoted to the pf-shell (4p-4h in short). The SD band by 8p-8h configurations. The ground state of 40-Ca is strongly correlated, but the …
Previously defined spin-dependent quark densities that are matrix elements of specific density operators in proton states of definite spin-polarization generally have an infinite variety of non-spherical shapes. The present application is concerned with both charge and matter densities. We show that the Gross & Agbakpe model nucleon harbors an interesting variety of non-spherical shapes.
We previously proposed a formula for calculating the Coulomb energy of spherical nucleus with Wood-Saxon charge distribution. In this work, the analytical formula is extended for description of the Coulomb energy of nucleus with beta2 deformation.
In this paper a microscopic state-of-the-art approach to calculation of the nuclear matrix element $M^{0ν}$ for neutrinoless double beta decay with an account for nuclear deformation is presented in length and applied for $^{76}$Ge, $^{150}$Nd and $^{160}$Gd. The proton-neutron quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) with a realistic residual interaction [the Brueckner $G$ matrix derived from the charge-depending Bonn (Bonn-CD) nucleon-nucleon potential] is used as the underlying nuclear structure model. The effects of the short range correlations and the quenching of the axial vector …
The even-Z odd-N neutron-halo nuclei, which are the possible lightest neutron-halo nuclei heavier than $^{37}$Mg, are explored by studying the shell-structure unique in weakly-bound neutrons for spherical or deformed shape. It is pointed out that due to the narrowed N=50 spherical energy-gap and a few resulting close-lying neutron one-particle levels, 1g$_{9/2}$, 3s$_{1/2}$, and 2d$_{5/2}$, for spherical shape, nuclei with some weakly-bound neutrons filling in those levels may be deformed and have a good chance to show deformed s-wave halo. Promising candidates are $^{71}_{24}$Cr$_{47}$, $^{73…
The deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum with the density-dependent meson-nucleon couplings is developed. The formulism is briefly presented with the emphasis on handling the density-dependent couplings, meson fields, and potentials in axially deformed system with partial wave method. Taking the neutron-rich nucleus $^{38}$Mg as an example, the newly developed code is verified by the spherical relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov calculations, where only the spherical components of the densities are considered. When the deformation is included self-consistently, it…
The Relativistic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov model for axially deformed nuclei (RHFBz) is introduced. The model is based on an effective Lagrangian with density-dependent meson-nucleon couplings in the particle-hole channel, and the pairing part of the Gogny force is used in the pairing channel. The RHFBz quasiparticle equations are solved by expansion in the basis of a deformed harmonic oscillator. Illustrative RHFBz calculations are performed for Carbon, Neon and Magnesium isotopes. The effect of the explicitly including the pion field is investigated for binding energies, deformation parameters…
Boson creation operators constructed from linear combinations of q- deformed zero coupled nucleon pair operators acting on the nucleus (A,0), are used to derive pp-RPA equations. The solutions of these equations are the pairing vibrations in (A${\underline{+}}$2) nuclei. For the $0^+_1$ and $0^+_2$ states of the nucleus $^{208}$Pb, the variations of relative energies and transfer cross-sections for populating these states via (t,p) reaction, with deformation parameter $τ$ have been analysed. For $τ=0.405$ the experimental excitation energy of 4.87MeV and the ratio $\frac{σ(0^+_2) }{σ(0^+_1)}=0…
Based on the deformed nucleon distributions obtained from the constrained Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov calculation using different nuclear symmetry energies, we have investigated the effects of the neutron skin and the collision geometry on the yield of free spectator nucleons as well as the yield ratio $N_n/N_p$ of free spectator neutrons to protons in collisions of deformed nuclei at RHIC energies. We found that tip-tip (body-body) collisions with prolate (oblate) nuclei lead to fewest free spectator nucleons, compared to other collision configurations. While the $N_n/N_p$ ratio is sensiti…
We discuss symmetries of the spherical shell model that make contact with the geometric collective model of Bohr and Mottelson. The most celebrated symmetry of this kind is SU(3), which is the basis of Elliott's model of rotation. It corresponds to a deformed mean field induced by a quadrupole interaction in a single major oscillator shell N and can be generalized to include several major shells. As such, Elliott's SU(3) model establishes the link between the spherical shell model and the (quadrupole component of the) geometric collective model. We introduce the analogue symmetry induced by an…
The existence of permanent electric dipole moments (EDMs) and magnetic quadrupole moments (MQMs) violate both time reversal invariance ($T$) and parity ($P$). Following the $CPT$ theorem they also violate combined $CP$ symmetry. Nuclear EDM are completely screened in atoms and molecules while interaction between electrons and MQM creates atomic and molecular EDM which can be measured and used to test CP-violation theories. Nuclear MQM are produced by the nucleon-nucleon $T,P$-odd interaction and by nucleon EDM. In this work we study the effect of enhancement of the nuclear MQM due to the nucle…
We investigate the properties of single-particle resonances in a non-spherical potential by solving the coupled-channels equations for the radial wave functions. We first generalize the box discretization method for positive energy states to a deformed system. As in the spherical case, we find that the discretized energy is stabilized against the box size when a resonance condition is met. Using the wave functions thus obtained, we then discuss the energy and the radial dependences of scattering wave functions in the vicinity of an isolated resonance. In the eigenchannel basis, where the $S$-m…
Reaction cross-sections are calculated using the Coulomb modified Glauber model for deformed target nuclei. The deformed nuclear matter density of the target is expanded into multipoles of order k = 0,2,4.The reaction cross-sections between some spherical and deformed nuclei are studied at energy range (10-1000 MeV/nucleon). The most significant effects in the intermediate energy range are the Coulomb field and in-medium effect that modified the trajectory of the incident beams. Introducing the deformation effect beside the Coulomb field and in-medium effect improves the agreement with the exp…
The properties of the collective low-lying states of Zr isotopes which include excitation energies and $E2$ reduced transition probabilities indicate that some of these states are mainly spherical and the other are mainly deformed ones. We investigate the properties of the low-lying collective states of $^{92-102}$Zr and their evolution with increase of the number of neutrons based on the five-dimensional Geometrical Quadrupole Collective Model. The quadrupole-collective Bohr Hamiltonian with a potential having spherical and deformed minima, is applied. The relative depth of two minima, height…
We investigate the deformation properties of atomic nuclei in a hadronic chiral SU_f(3) model approach. The parameters are fitted to hadron mass properties and adjustments for spherical finite nuclei have been performed. Using these parameters the deformation of a series of light and heavy nuclei are obtained in a two-dimensional self-consistent calculation. In addition we discuss a case of superdeformation in a heavy nucleus.
Using a simple model based on the knowledge of spherical and deformed Woods-Saxon potentials, it is shown that the recent observation of halo phenomena in $^{29}$F can be interpreted as an evidence for the prolate deformation of the ground state of $^{29}$F. The prolate deformation is the result of the shell structure, which is unique in one-neutron resonant levels, in particular near degeneracy of the neutron 1$f_{7/2}$ and 2$p_{3/2}$ resonant levels, together with the strong preference of prolate shape by the proton number $Z$ = 9. On the other hand, in oxygen isotopes spherical shape is so …
We perform Hartree-Fock+BCS calculations for even-even nuclei with 2 <= Z <= 82 and N ranging from outside the proton drip line to the experimental frontier on the neutron-rich side. The ground state solutions are obtained for 737 nuclei, together with shape-coexistence solutions for 480 nuclei. Our method features the Cartesian-mesh representation of single-particle wavefunctions, which is advantageous in treating nucleon skins and exotic shapes. The results are compared with those of the finite-range droplet model of Moller et al. as well as the experimental values.
We extend the ab initio coupled-cluster effective interaction (CCEI) method to deformed open-shell nuclei with protons and neutrons in the valence space, and compute binding energies and excited states of isotopes of neon and magnesium. We employ a nucleon-nucleon and three-nucleon interaction from chiral effective field theory evolved to a lower cutoff via a similarity renormalization group transformation. We find good agreement with experiment for binding energies and spectra, while charge radii of neon isotopes are underestimated. For the deformed nuclei $^{20}$Ne and $^{24}$Mg we reproduce…
In this work, with restored isospin symmetry, we evaluated the neutrinoless double beta decay nuclear matrix elements for $^{76}$Ge, $^{82}$Se, $^{130}$Te, $^{136}$Xe and $^{150}$Nd for both the light and heavy neutrino mass mechanisms using the deformed QRPA approach with realistic forces. We give detailed decompositions of the nuclear matrix elements over different intermediate states and nucleon pairs, and discuss how these decompositions are affected by the model space truncations. Compared to the spherical calculations, our results show reductions from $30\%$ to about $60\%$ of the nuclea…
The pseudo-SU(3) model has been extensively used to study normal parity bands in even-even and odd-mass heavy deformed nuclei. The use of a realistic Hamiltonian that mixes many SU(3) irreps has allowed for a successful description of energy spectra and electromagnetic transition strengths. While this model is powerful, there are situations in which the intruder states must be taken into account explicitly. The quasi-SU(3) symmetry is expected to complement the model, allowing for a description of nucleons occupying normal and intruder parity orbitals using a unified formalism.
In order to describe the exotic nuclear structure in unstable odd-$A$ or odd-odd nuclei, the deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov theory in continuum has been extended to incorporate the blocking effect due to the odd nucleon. For a microscopic and self-consistent description of pairing correlations, continuum, deformation, blocking effects, and the extended spatial density distribution in exotic nuclei, the deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov equations are solved in a Woods-Saxon basis in which the radial wave functions have a proper asymptotic behavior at large $r$. The formalism an…
Spherical Hartree--Fock calculations with projection onto zero total linear momentum before the variation are performed for the nuclei 4He, 12C, 16O, 28Si, 32S and 40Ca using a density--independent effective nucleon--nucleon interaction. The results are compared to those of usual spherical Hartree--Fock calculations subtracting the kinetic energy of the center of mass motion either before or after the variation and to the results obtained analytically with oscillator occupations. Total energies, hole--energies, elastic charge form factors and charge densities and the mathematical Coulomb sum r…
The coordinate space formulation of the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) method enables self-consistent treatment of mean-field and pairing in weakly bound systems whose properties are affected by the particle continuum space. Of particular interest are neutron-rich, deformed drip-line nuclei which can exhibit novel properties associated with neutron skin. To describe such systems theoretically, we developed an accurate 2D lattice Skyrme-HFB solver {\hfbax} based on B-splines. Compared to previous implementations, we made a number of improvements aimed at boosting the solver's performance. These …
As part of a program to study odd-A nuclei in the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) theory, we have developed a new calculational tool to find the HFB minima of odd-A nuclei based on the gradient method and using interactions of Gogny's form. The HFB minimization includes both time-even and time-odd fields in the energy functional, avoiding the commonly used "filling approximation". Here we apply the method to calculate neutron pairing gaps in some representative isotope chains of spherical and deformed nuclei, namely the Z=8,50 and 82 spherical chains and the Z=62 and 92 deformed chains. We find …
