In this paper, we consider an axially symmetric $(2+1)-$dimensional rotating Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole to investigate its interior \textbf{information}. First, we choose a largest space-like hyper-surface at $r_v=0.45$ and calculate the maximal interior volume bound by it. We found the interior volume to increase with advance time $v$. Similarly, the \textbf{scalar} quantum mode entropy \textbf{is} also found to increase with advance time. Next\textbf{,} considering two important assumptions, an evolution relation is obtained between \textbf{the variation of scalar} quantum mode entropy and Bekenstein Hawking entropy \textbf{for an} infinitesimal interval of time. In contrast to the evolution relation of higher dimensional black holes, the characteristic feature of this relation is its increase with extremely large increase in black hole mass. Moreover, this work extends the notion of black hole evaporation idea to lower space-time dimensions.
We study properties of resonant solutions to the scalar wave equation in several axially symmetric spacetimes. We prove that non-axial resonant modes do not exist neither in the Lanczos dust cylinder, the $(2+1)$ extreme BTZ spacetime nor in a class of simple rotating wormhole solutions. Moreover, we find unstable solutions to the wave equation in the Lanczos dust cylinder and in the $r^2 <0$ region of the extreme $(2+1)$ BTZ spacetime, two solutions that possess closed timelike curves. Similarities with previous results obtained for the Kerr spacetime are explored.
In this work we implement the Minimal Geometric Deformation decoupling method to obtain general static interior solutions for a BTZ vacuum from the most general isotropic solution in $2+1$ dimensions including the cosmological constant $Λ$. We obtain that the general solution can be generated only by the energy density of the original isotropic sector, so that this quantity plays the role of a generating function. Although as a particular example we study the static star with constant density, the method here developed can be easily applied to more complex situations described by other energy …
It is shown that the interior solution of axially symmetric, stationary and rigidly rotating dust configurations is completely determined by the mass density along the axis of rotation. The particularly interesting case of a mass density, which is cylindrical symmetric in the interior of the dust configuration, is presented. Among other things, this proves the non-existence of homogeneous dust configurations.
We present exact solutions describing rotating, inhomogeneous dust with generic initial data in 2+1 dimensional AdS spacetime and show how they are smoothly matched to the Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) solution in the exterior. The metrics, which are the rotational analogues of the 2+1 dimensional LeMaitre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) family, are described by their angular momentum and one additional constant which, together with the angular momentum, determines the energy density of the dust cloud. The weak energy condition gives a constraint on the angular momentum profile inside the cloud. Solutio…
We construct an axially symmetric solution of Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity coupled to an electromagnetic field in 2+1 dimensions including a (negative) cosmological constant term. This is achieved by using a recently developed mapping procedure that allows to generate solutions in certain families of metric-affine gravity theories starting from a known seed solution of General Relativity, which in the present case corresponds to the electrically charged Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) solution. We discuss the main features of the new configurations, including the modifications to th…
The regular black hole solution arising as a spherically symmetric vacuum solution of Born-Infeld gravity possesses an asymptotic interior structure which is very well described by a four dimensional generalization of the non-rotating BTZ metric. According to this picture no singularity exists, and instead, infalling observers experience a constant curvature manifold as they travel towards future null infinity. This is characterized by the BTZ event horizon. The exterior structure of the black hole is also studied, and it is shown that it corresponds to the Schwarzschild solution provided the …
We consider static circularly symmetric solution of three-dimensional Einstein's equations with negative cosmological constant (the BTZ black hole). The case of zero cosmological constant corresponding to the interior region of a black hole is analyzed in detail. We prove that the maximally extended BTZ solution with zero cosmological constant coincides with flat three-dimensional Minkowskian space-time without any singularity and horizons. The Euclidean version of this solution is shown to have physical interpretation in the geometric theory of defects in solids describing combined wedge and …
The existence of static and axially symmetric regions in a Friedman-Lemaitre cosmology is investigated under the only assumption that the cosmic time and the static time match properly on the boundary hypersurface. It turns out that the most general form for the static region is a two-sphere with arbitrarily changing radius which moves along the axis of symmetry in a determined way. The geometry of the interior region is completely determined in terms of background objects. When any of the most widely used energy-momentum contents for the interior region is imposed, both the interior geometry …
A method to construct interior axially symmetric metrics that appropriately match with any vacuum solution of the Weyl family is developed in Hernandez-Pastora etal. (Class Quantum Gravity 33:235005, 2016). It was shown, for the case of some vacuum solutions, that the simplestsolution for the interior metric leads to sources with well behaved energy conditions. Now, we integrate the field equa-tions to obtain the interior metric functions in terms of theanisotropies and pressures of the source. As well, the compatible equations of state for these global models are calculated. The interior metri…
Gravitational analyzes in lower dimensions has become a field of active research interest ever since Banados, Teitelboim and Zanelli (BTZ) (Phys. Rev. Lett. 69, 1849, 1992) proved the existence of a black hole solution in (2 + 1) dimensions. The BTZ metric has inspired many investigators to develop and analyze circularly symmetric stellar models which can be matched to the exterior BTZ metric. We have obtained two new classes of solutions for a (2 + 1)-dimensional anisotropic star in anti-de Sitter background space-time which have been obtained by assuming that the equation of state (EOS) desc…
Lower dimensional gravity has the potential of providing non-trivial and valuable insight into some of the conceptual issues arising in four dimensional relativistic gravitational analysis. The asymptotically anti-de Sitter (2+1) dimensional spacetime described by Ba$\tilde{n}$ados, Teitelboim and Zanelli (BTZ) which admits a black hole solution, has become a source of fascination for theoretical physicists in recent years. By suitably choosing the form of the mass function $m(r)$, we derive a new class of solutions for the interior of an isotropic star corresponding to the exterior (2+1) asym…

Recently it has been shown that a 2+1 dimensional black hole can be created by a collapse of two colliding massless particles in otherwise empty anti-de Sitter space. Here we generalize this construction to the case of a non-zero impact parameter. The resulting spacetime, which may be regarded as a Gott universe in anti-de Sitter background, contains closed timelike curves. By treating these as singular we are able to interpret our solution as a rotating black hole, hence providing a link between the Gott universe and the BTZ black hole. When analyzing the spacetime we see how the full causal …
A general procedure to find static and axially symmetric, interior solutions to the Einstein equations is presented. All the so obtained solutions, verify the energy conditions for a wide range of values of the parameters, and match smoothly to some exterior solution of the Weyl family, thereby representing globally regular models describing non spherical sources of gravitational field. In the spherically symmetric limit, all our models converge to the well known incompressible perfect fluid solution. The key stone of our approach is based on an ansatz allowing to define the interior metric in …
We propose a new model of a gravastar in (2+1) anti-de Sitter space-time. This new three dimensional configuration has three different regions with different equations of state: [I] Interior: 0 \leq r < r_1, ρ= -p ; [II] Shell: r_1 \leq r < r_2, ρ= p; [III] Exterior: r_2 < r, ρ= p =0. The outer region of this gravastar corresponds to the exterior (2+1) anti-de Sitter space-time, popularly known as the BTZ space-time. Like BTZ model, Λis taken to be negative, which at the junction turns out to be positive as required by stability of gravastar and mathematical consistency. After investigating th…
We reviewed the Ba\u nados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole solution in connection with the spinning string solution. We find a new exact solution, which can be related to the $(2+1)$-dimensional spinning point particle solution. There is no need for a cosmological constant, so the solution can be up-lifted to $(3+1)$ dimensions. The exact solution in a conformal invariant gravity model, where the spacetime is written as $g_{μν}=ω^2 \tilde g_{μν}$, is horizon free and has an ergo-circle, while $\tilde g_{μν}$ is the BTZ solution. The dilaton $ω$ determines the scale of the model. In accorda…
The phenomenon of mass inflation is shown to occur for a rotating black hole. We demonstrate this feature in $(2+1)$ dimensions by extending the charged spinning BTZ black hole to Vaidya form. We find that the mass function diverges in a manner quantitatively similar to its static counterparts in $(3+1)$, $(2+1)$ and $(1+1)$ dimensions.
Recent work has argued that the strong cosmic censorship (SCC) conjecture is violated by near-extremal Reissner-Nordström de Sitter (RNdS) black holes but respected by Kerr-de Sitter black holes. It has also been shown that the conjecture is violated by near-extremal BTZ black holes. The latter result relies on a coincidence between "exterior" and "interior" quasinormal frequencies. If this coincidence were to occur also for RNdS or Kerr-dS then it would significantly modify the conclusions of earlier work. In this paper, it is demonstrated that this coincidence does not occur for RNdS or Kerr…
The (single) black hole solutions of Bañados, Teitelboim and Zanelli (BTZ) in 2+1 dimensional anti-de Sitter space are generalized to an arbitrary number $n$ of such black holes. The resulting multi-black-hole (MBH) spacetime is locally isometric to anti-de Sitter space, and globally it is obtained from the latter as a quotient space by means of suitable identifications. The MBH spacetime has $n$ asymptotically anti-de Sitter exterior regions, each of which has the geometry of a single BTZ black hole. These exterior regions are separated by $n$ horizons from a common interior region. This inte…
Charged axially symmetric solution of the coupled gravitational and electromagnetic fields in the tetrad theory of gravitation is derived. The metric associated with this solution is an axially symmetric metric which is characterized by three parameters ``$ $the gravitational mass $M$, the charge parameter $Q$ and the rotation parameter $a$". The parallel vector fields and the electromagnetic vector potential are axially symmetric. We calculate the total exterior energy. The energy-momentum complex given by Møller in the framework of the Weitzenb$\ddot{o}$ck geometry ``$ ${\it characterized by…
We provide all basic equations and concepts required to carry out a general study on axially symmetric static sources. The Einstein equations and the conservation equations are written down for a general anisotropic static fluid endowed with axial symmetry. The structure scalars are calculated and the inhomogeneity factors are identified. Finally some exact analytical solutions were found. One of these solutions describes an incompressible spheroid with isotropic pressure and becomes the well known interior Schwarzschild solution in the spherically symmetric limit, however it cannot be matched…
Since the development of Relativity theory, a variety of solutions have been found around Einstein field equations, depending on the time-space. For instance, we can find the axially symmetric space which describes a rotanting black hole. To understand this astrophysics objects, we must do a ray tracing, which is a simulation of photon's trajectory from the black hole to observer. Since are millions of photons recievied by the observer, we need a computational tool to resolve this problem for generating the image of black hole. Thanks to the YNOGK- GEOKERR code, we can visualise the black hole…
Generalizations of the Black Hole geometry of Bañados, Teitelboim and Zanelli (BTZ) are presented. The theory is three-dimensional vacuum Einstein theory with a negative cosmological constant. The $n$-black-hole solution has $n$ asymptotically anti-de Sitter ``exterior" regions that join in one ``interior" region. The geometry of each exterior region is identical to that of a BTZ geometry; in particular, each contains a black hole horizon that surrounds (as judged from that exterior) all the other horizons. The interior region acts as a closed universe containing $n$ black holes. The initial s…
Consider a rotating and possibly pulsating "star" in (2+1) dimensions. If the star is axially symmetric, then in the vacuum region surrounding the star, (a region that we assume at most contains a cosmological constant), the Einstein equations imply that under physically plausible conditions the geometry is in fact stationary. Furthermore, the geometry external to the star is then uniquely guaranteed to be the (2+1) dimensional analogue of the Kerr-de Sitter spacetime, the BTZ geometry. This Birkhoff-like theorem is very special to (2+1) dimensions, and fails in (3+1) dimensions. Effectively, …
The Bañados, Teitelboim and Zanelli\cite{BTZ} solution corresponding to the exterior space-time of a black hole in $(2+1)$ dimensions has been found to be very useful to understand various aspects relating to the gravitational field of a black hole. We present here a class of interior solutions corresponding to the BTZ exterior by making use of a model presented by Finch and Skea\cite{Finch} which was earlier found to be relevant for the description realistic stars in $(3+1)$ dimensions. We show physical viability of the model in lower dimensions as well.
A, recently presented, general procedure to find static and axially symmetric, interior solutions to the Einstein equations, is extended to the stationary case, and applied to find an interior solution for the Kerr metric. The solution, which is generated by an anisotropic fluid, verifies the energy conditions for a wide range of values of the parameters, and matches smoothly to the Kerr solution, thereby representing a globally regular model describing a non spherical and rotating source of gravitational field. In the spherically symmetric limit, our model converges to the well known incompre…
An exact charged axially symmetric solution of the coupled gravitational and electromagnetic fields in the teleparallel equivalent of Einstein theory is derived. It is characterized by three parameters ``$ $the gravitational mass $M$, the charge parameter $Q$ and the rotation parameter $a$" and its associated metric gives Kerr-Newman spacetime. The parallel vector field and the electromagnetic vector potential are axially symmetric. We then, calculate the total energy using the gravitational energy-momentum. The energy is found to be shared by its interior as well as exterior. Switching off th…
We show that the interior of a charged, spinning black hole formed from a general axially symmetric gravitational collapse is unstable to inflation of both its mass and angular momentum parameters. Although our results are formulated in the context of $(2+1)$-dimensional black holes, we argue that they are applicable to $(3+1)$ dimensions.
The spacetime in the interior of a black hole can be described by an homogeneous line element, for which the Einstein--Hilbert action reduces to a one-dimensional mechanical model. We have shown in [SciPost Phys. 10, 022 (2021), [2010.07059]] that this model exhibits a symmetry under the $(2+1)$-dimensional Poincaré group. Here we explain how this can be understood as a broken infinite-dimensional BMS$_3$ symmetry. This is done by reinterpreting the action for the model as a geometric action for BMS$_3$, where the configuration space variables are elements of the algebra $\mathfrak{bms}_3$ and…
We investigate the gravitational collapse of a non-rotating $n$-dimensional BTZ black hole in AdS space in the context of both classical and quantum mechanics. This is done by first deriving the conserved mass of a "spherically" symmetric domain wall, which is taken as the classical Hamiltonian of the black hole. Upon deriving the conserved mass, we also point out that, for a "spherically" symmetric shell, there is an easy and straight-forward way of determining the conserved mass, which is related to the proper time derivative of the interior and exterior times. This method for determining th…
In three-dimensional AdS space, we consider the gravitational collapse of dust shell and then investigate the quantum radiation from the collapsing shell by employing the functional Schrödinger formalism. In the formation of the BTZ black hole, the interior geometry of the shell can be chosen as either the massless black hole or the global AdS space. In the incipient black hole limit, we obtain the wave function exactly from the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for a massless scalar field. Then, we show that the occupation number of excited states can be written by analytic expressions, and…
We show that both the interior region $r<M-\sqrt{M^2-a^2}$ of a Kerr black hole and the $a^2>M^2$ Kerr naked singularity admit unstable solutions of the Teukolsky equation for any value of the spin weight. For every harmonic number there is at least one axially symmetric mode that grows exponentially in time and decays properly in the radial directions. These can be used as Debye potentials to generate solutions for the scalar, Weyl spinor, Maxwell and linearized gravity field equations on these backgrounds, satisfying appropriate spatial boundary conditions and growing exponentially in time, …
We present results of numerical simulations of the formation of black holes from the gravitational collapse of a massless, minimally-coupled scalar field in 2+1 dimensional, axially-symmetric, anti de-Sitter (AdS) spacetime. The geometry exterior to the event horizon approaches the BTZ solution, showing no evidence of scalar `hair'. To study the interior structure we implement a variant of black-hole excision, which we call singularity excision. We find that interior to the event horizon a strong, spacelike curvature singularity develops. We study the critical behavior at the threshold of blac…
Source-free equations of nonlinear electrodynamics minimally coupled to gravity admit regular axially symmetric asymptotically Kerr-Newman solutions which describe charged rotating black holes and electromagnetic spinning solitons (lumps). Asymptotic analysis of solutions shows, for both black holes and solitons, the existence of de Sitter vacuum interior which has the properties of a perfect conductor and ideal diamagnetic and displays superconducting behaviour which can be responsible for practically unlimited life time of an object. Superconducting current flows on the equatorial ring repla…
We study linear scalar perturbations of black holes in two-dimensional (2D) gravity models with a particular emphasis on Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity. We obtain an exact expression of the quasinormal mode frequencies for single horizon black holes in JT gravity and then verify it numerically using the Horowitz-Hubeny method. For a 2D Reissner-Nordström like solution, we find that the massless scalar wave equation reduces to the confluent Heun equation using which we calculate the Hawking spectra. Finally, we consider the dimensionally reduced Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole and o…
We attempt to match the most general cylindrically symmetric vacuum space-time with a Robertson-Walker interior. The matching conditions show that the interior must be dust filled and that the boundary must be comoving. Further, we show that the vacuum region must be polarized. Imposing the condition that there are no trapped cylinders on an initial time slice, we can apply a result of Thorne's and show that trapped cylinders never evolve. This results in a simplified line element which we prove to be incompatible with the dust interior. This result demonstrates the impossibility of the existe…
Considering two dimensional gravity coupled to a CFT, we show that a semiclassical black hole can be described in terms of two Liouville theories matched at the horizon. The black hole exterior corresponds to a space-like while the interior to a time-like Liouville theory. This matching automatically implies that a semiclassical black hole has an infinite entropy. The path integral description of the time-like Liouville theory (the Black Hole interior) is studied and it is found that the correlation functions of the coupled CFT-gravity system are dominated by two (complex) saddle points, even …
We show the existence of a Hawking vector field in a full neighborhood of a local, regular, bifurcate, non-expanding horizon embedded in a smooth Einstein-Maxwell space-time without assuming the underlying space-time is analytic. It extends one result of Friedrich, Rácz and Wald, which was limited to the interior of the black hole region. Moreover, we also show, in the presence of an additional Killing vector field $T$ which tangent to the horizon and not vanishing on the bifurcate sphere, then space-time must be locally axially symmetric without the analyticity assumption. This axial symmetry…
One of the most challenging technical aspects of the dualities between string theory on anti-de Sitter spaces and conformal field theories is understanding how location in the interior of spacetime is represented in the field theory. It has recently been argued that the interior of the spacetime can be directly probed by using intrinsically non-local quantities in the field theory. In addition, Balasubramanian and Ross [hep-th/9906226] argued that when the spacetime described the formation of an AdS_3 black hole, the propagator in the field theory probed the whole spacetime, including the regi…
We consider four dimensional stationary and axially symmetric spacetimes for conformally coupled scalar-tensor theories. We show that, in analogy to the Lewis-Papapetrou problem in General Relativity (GR), the theory at hand can be recast in an analogous integrable form. We give the relevant rod formalism, introduced by Weyl for vacuum GR, explicitly giving the rod structure of the black hole of Bocharova et al. and Bekenstein (BBMB), in complete analogy to the Schwarzschild solution. The additional scalar field is shown to play the role of an extra Weyl potential. We then employ the Ernst met…
Asymptotically flat, time-symmetric, axially symmetric and conformally flat initial data for vacuum general relativity are studied numerically on $R^3$ with the interior of a standard torus cut out. By the choice of boundary condition the torus is marginally outer trapped, and thus a surface of minimal area. Apart from pure scaling the standard tori are parameterized by a radius $a\in [0,1]$, where $a=0$ corresponds to the limit where the boundary torus degenerates to a circle and $a=1$ to a torus that touches the axis of symmetry. Noting that these tori are the orbits of a $U(1)\times U(1)$ c…
We continue to study the response of black-hole space-times on the presence of additional strong sources of gravity. Restricting ourselves to static and axially symmetric (electro-)vacuum exact solutions of Einstein's equations, we first considered the Majumdar--Papapetrou solution for a binary of extreme black holes in a previous paper, while here we deal with a Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by a concentric thin ring described by the Bach--Weyl solution. The geometry is again revealed on the simplest invariants determined by the metric (lapse function) and its gradient (gravitational ac…
