We derive the Faddeev-Reshetikhin (FR) model from a four-dimensional Chern- Simons theory with two order surface defects by following the work by Costello and Yamazaki [arXiv:1908.02289]. Then we present a trigonometric deformation of the FR model by employing a boundary condition with an R-operator of Drinfeld-Jimbo type. This is a generalization of the work by Delduc, Lacroix, Magro and Vicedo [arXiv:1909.13824] from the disorder surface defect case to the order one.
The Faddeev-Reshetikhin model arises as a truncation of strings in AdS_5XS^5. Its two particle S-matrix should be obtained by diagonalizing its Hamiltonian. However this does not happen in a straightforward way. There is a Lorentz violating term in the Hamiltonian which prevents its plain diagonalization. We then find out the most general quartic Hamiltonian that can be diagonalized. It includes the bosonic Thirring model as well as another model which shares the same two particle S-matrix as the Faddeev-Reshetikhin model. We also find a one parameter family of interactions which lead to non-H…
The Faddeev-Reshetikhin procedure corresponds to a removal of the non-ultralocality of the classical SU(2) principal chiral model. It is realized by defining another field theory, which has the same Lax pair and equations of motion but a different Poisson structure and Hamiltonian. Following earlier work of M. Semenov-Tian-Shansky and A. Sevostyanov, we show how it is possible to alleviate in a similar way the non-ultralocality of symmetric space sigma models. The equivalence of the equations of motion holds only at the level of the Pohlmeyer reduction of these models, which corresponds to sym…
We study the question of diagonalizability of the Hamiltonian for the Faddeev-Reshetikhin (FR) model in the two particle sector. Although the two particle S-matrix element for the FR model, which may be relevant for the quantization of strings on $AdS_{5}\times S^{5}$, has been calculated recently using field theoretic methods, we find that the Hamiltonian for the system in this sector is not diagonalizable. We trace the difficulty to the fact that the interaction term in the Hamiltonian violating Lorentz invariance leads to discontinuity conditions (matching conditions) that cannot be satisfi…
In string theory, nilpotence of the BRS operator $\d$ for the string functional relates the Chern-Simons term in the gauge-invariant antisymmetric tensor field strength to the central term in the Kac-Moody algebra. We generalize these ideas to p-branes with odd p and find that the Kac-Moody algebra for the string becomes the Mickelsson-Faddeev algebra for the p-brane.
Using Faddeev-Senjanovic path integral quantization for constrained Hamilton system, we quantize SU(n) N=2 supersymmetric gauge field system with non-abelian Chern-Simons topological term in 2+1 dimensions, and use consistency of a gauge condition naturally to deduce another gauge condition. Further, we get the generating functional of Green function in phase space, deduce the angular momentum based on the global canonical Noether theorem at quantum level, obtain the fractional spin of this supersymmetric system, and show that the total angular momentum has the orbital angular momentum and spi…
We quantize the (2+1)-dimensional self-dual and Maxwell-Chern-Simons theories by using the Faddeev-Jackiw formulation and compare the results with those of the Dirac formalism.
A refined expression for the Faddeev-Popov determinant is derived for gauge theories quantised around a reducible classical solution. We apply this result to Chern-Simons perturbation theory on compact spacetime 3-manifolds with quantisation around an arbitrary flat gauge field isolated up to gauge transformations, pointing out that previous results on the finiteness and formal metric-independence of perturbative expansions of the partition function continue to hold.
The Faddeev-Reshetikhin-Takhtajan method to construct matrix bialgebras from non-singular solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation is extended to the anyonic or $\Z_n$-graded case. The resulting anyonic quantum matrices are braided groups in which the braiding is given by a phase factor.
Using a group-invariant version of the Faddeev-Popov method we explicitly obtain the partition functions of the Self-Dual Model and Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory. We show that their ratio coincides with the partition function of abelian Chern-Simons theory to within a phase factor depending on the geometrical properties of the manifold.
A new, formal, non-combinatorial approach to invariants of three-dimensional manifolds of Reshetikhin, Turaev and Witten in the framework of non-perturbative topological quantum Chern-Simons theory, corresponding to an arbitrary compact simple Lie group, is presented. A direct implementation of surgery instructions in the context of quantum field theory is proposed. An explicit form of the specialization of the invariant to the group SU(2) is derived.
In this paper, spinor and vector decomposition of SU(2) gauge potential are presented and their equivalence is constructed using a simply proposal. We also obtain the action of Faddeev nonlinear O(3) sigma model from the SU(2) massive gauge field theory which is proposed according to the gauge invariant principle. At last, the knot structure in SU(2) Chern-Simons filed theory is discussed in terms of the $ϕ$--mapping topological current theory. The topological charge of the knot is characterized by the Hopf indices and the Brouwer degrees of $ϕ$-mapping.
We develop the approach of Faddeev, Reshetikhin, Takhtajan [1] and of Majid [2] that enables one to associate a quasitriangular Hopf algebra to every regular invertible constant solution of the quantum Yang-Baxter equations. We show that such a Hopf algebra is actually a quantum double.

We provide a mathematical definition of the gauge fixed Ponzano-Regge model showing that it gives a measure on the space of flat connections whose volume is well defined. We then show that the Ponzano-Regge model can be equivalently expressed as Reshetikhin-Turaev evaluation of a colored chain mail link based on D(SU(2)): a non compact quantum group being the Drinfeld double of SU(2) and a deformation of the Poincare algebra. This proves the equivalence between spin foam quantization and Chern-Simons quantization of three dimensional gravity without cosmological constant. We extend this corres…
We consider the Chern-Simons theory with Wilson lines in 3D and in 1D in the BV-BFV formalism of Cattaneo-Mnev-Reshetikhin. In particular, we allow for Wilson lines to end on the boundary of the space-time manifold. In the toy model of 1D Chern-Simons theory, the quantized BFV boundary action coincides with the Kostant cubic Dirac operator which plays an important role in representation theory. In the case of 3D Chern-Simons theory, the boundary action turns out to be the odd (degree 1) version of the BF model with source terms for the B field at the points where the Wilson lines meet the boun…
The path integral approach for a 3D Chern-Simons theory is discussed with a focus on the question of metric independence and BRST-exactness in the light of Gribov ambiguity. Copies of the vacuum satisfying the strong boundary conditions and with trivial winding number are shown to exist. This problem is relevant for Yang-Mills theory in 2+1 dimensions as well. Furthermore, it is also shown that there are regular background metrics supporting an infinite number of zero modes of the Abelian Faddeev-Popov operator in the Coulomb gauge. In order to avoid overcounting one could restrict the possibl…
We propose an extension of the recently-proposed volume conjecture for closed hyperbolic 3-manifolds, to all orders in perturbative expansion. We first derive formulas for the perturbative expansion of the partition function of complex Chern-Simons theory around a hyperbolic flat connection, which produces infinitely-many perturbative invariants of the closed oriented 3-manifold. The conjecture is that this expansion coincides with the perturbative expansion of the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants at roots of unity $q=e^{2 πi/r}$ with $r$ odd, in the limit $r \to \infty$. We provide numeri…
The goal of this note is to give a brief overview of the BV-BFV formalism developed by the first two authors and Reshetikhin in [arXiv:1201.0290], [arXiv:1507.01221] in order to perform perturbative quantisation of Lagrangian field theories on manifolds with boundary, and present a special case of Chern-Simons theory as a new example.
We consider the $U(1)$ Chern-Simons gauge theory defined in a general closed oriented 3-manifold $M$; the functional integration is used to compute the normalized partition function and the expectation values of the link holonomies. The nonperturbative path-integral is defined in the space of the gauge orbits of the connections which belong to the various inequivalent $U(1)$ principal bundles over $M$; the different sectors of the configuration space are labelled by the elements of the first homology group of $M$ and are characterized by appropriate background connections. The gauge orbits of …
We consider a new D=2 nonrelativistic classical mechanics model providing via the Noether theorem the (2+1)-Galilean symmetry algebra with two central charges: mass m and the coupling constant k of a Chern-Simons-like term. In this way we provide the dynamical interpretation of the second central charge of the (2+1)-dimensional Galilean algebra. We discuss also the interpretation of k as describing the noncommutativity of D=2 space coordinates. The model is quantized in two ways: using the Ostrogradski-Dirac formalism for higher order Lagrangians with constraints and the Faddeev-Jackiw method …
We analyze topological boundary conditions and topological surface defects in three-dimensional topological field theories of Reshetikhin-Turaev type based on arbitrary modular tensor categories. Boundary conditions are described by central functors that lift to trivializations in the Witt group of modular tensor categories. The bicategory of boundary conditions can be described through the bicategory of module categories over any such trivialization. A similar description is obtained for topological surface defects. Using string diagrams for bicategories we also establish a precise relation b…
