On Sharp Enhancement of Effective Mass of Quasiparticles and Coefficient of T^{2} Term of Resistivity around First-Order Metamagnetic Transition Observed in UTe_{2}
The mechanism underlying the enhancement of the Sommerfeld coefficient of quasiparticles at the first-order metamagnetic transition in UTe_2, reported by Miyake et al. in J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 88, 063706 (2019), is discussed theoretically by taking into account the ferromagnetic order-parameter fluctuations on the basis of the Landau theory of phase transition. We find that the enhanced ferromagnetic spin fluctuation gives rise to the enhancement of the effective mass of the quasiparticles or the Sommerfeld coefficient γ,which is consistent with the experimental observations. At the same time, the Kadowaki-Woods type scaling around the metamagnetic transition, reported by Imajo et al.in J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 88, 083705 (2019) and Knafo et al. in J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 88, 063705 (2019), is also understood semi-quantitatively by assuming reasonable values of parameters of Landau-type free energy reproducing key quantities characterizing the metamagnetic transition.
We have studied the magnetization of the recently discovered heavy fermion superconductor UTe$_2$ up to 56 T in pulsed-magnetic fields. A first-order metamagnetic transition has been clearly observed at $H_{\rm m}$ =34.9 T when the magnetic field $H$ is applied along the orthorhombic hard-magnetization $b$-axis. The transition has a critical end point at $\sim$11 K and 34.8 T, where the first order transition terminates and changes into a crossover regime. Using the thermodynamic Maxwell relation, we have evaluated the field dependence of the Sommerfeld coefficient of the specific heat directl…
It is discussed from theoretical viewpoint why the aspects of enhancements in the A-coefficient in the resistivity\cite{Knafo}and the Sommerfeld constant γ\cite{AtsushiMiyake,Imajo} observed in UTe2 around the metamagnetic transition at H=H_m are so different. In particular, the discussions are focused on the reason why the H dependence of the A-coefficient reported in Ref.\citen{Knafo} and γreported in Ref.\citen{AtsushiMiyake}is almost symmetric around H=H_{\rm m}, while γ(H) at H\gsim H_m, reported in Ref.\citen{Imajo}, is considerably suppressed compared to that at H\lsim H_m. A key point …
We present a study of the upper critical field of the newly discovered heavy fermion superconductor UTe$_2$ by magnetoresistivity measurements in pulsed magnetic fields up to 60~T and static magnetic fields up to 35~T. We show that superconductivity survives up to the metamagnetic transition at $H_{\rm m} \approx 35$~T at low temperature. Above $H_{\rm m}$ superconductivity is suppressed. At higher temperature superconductivity is enhanced under magnetic field leading to reentrance of superconductivity or an almost temperature independent increase of $H_{\rm c2}$. By studying the angular depen…
Metamagnetic transitions in the novel spin-triplet superconductor UTe$_2$ were investigated through the newly developed simultaneous measurements of magnetization and sample temperature for the field along the orthorhombic $b$-axis and close to the [011] direction, where reentrant superconductivity (RSC) is detected below and above the first-order metamagnetic transition field $H_{\rm m}$. Combining the Maxwell's relation and the Clausius-Clapeyron equation, we obtained the field dependence of Sommerfeld coefficient $γ$ through the first-order metamagnetic transition. A significant enhancement…
The link between the metamagnetic transition and novel spin-triplet superconductivity of UTe$_2$ was discussed thermodynamically through magnetostriction measurements in a pulsed-magnetic field. We revealed a discontinuous magnetostriction across the metamagnetic transition at $μ_0H_{\rm m}\approx 35$~T for the applied magnetic fields along the crystallographic $b$ axis in the orthorhombic structure. The resultanting volume magnetostriction of $ΔV/V \approx-5.9\times 10^{-4}$ gives the initial pressure dependence of $H_{\rm m}$ by employing the Clausius-Clapeyron's equation, which agrees with …
Thermoelectric power ($S$) and Hall effect ($R_\mathrm{H}$) measurements on the paramagnetic superconductor UTe$_2$ with magnetic field applied along the hard magnetization $b$-axis are reported. The first order nature of the metamagnetic transition at $H_\mathrm{m}=H^b_\mathrm{c2}=35$~T leads to drastic consequences on $S$ and $R_\mathrm{H}$. In contrast to the field dependence of the specific heat in the normal state through $H_\mathrm{m}$, $S(H)$ is not symmetric with respect to $H_\mathrm{m}$. This implies a strong interplay between ferromagnetic (FM) fluctuations and a Fermi-surface recon…
We present measurements on ultra clean single crystals of the bilayered ruthenate metal Sr3Ru2O7, which has a magnetic-field-tuned quantum critical point. Quantum oscillations of differing frequencies can be seen in the resistivity both below and above its metamagnetic transition. This frequency shift corresponds to a small change in the Fermi surface volume that is qualitatively consistent with the small moment change in the magnetisation across the metamagnetic transition. Very near the metamagnetic field, unusual behaviour is seen. There is a strong enhancement of the resistivity in a narro…
We investigated the thermodynamic property of the heavy fermion superconductor UTe$_2$ in pulsed high magnetic fields. The superconducting transition in zero field was observed at $T_{\rm c}$=1.65 K as a sharp heat capacity jump. Magnetocaloric effect measurements in pulsed-magnetic fields obviously detected a thermodynamic anomaly accompanied by a first-order metamagnetic transition at $μ$$_{0}$$H_{\rm m}$=36.0 T when the fields are applied nearly along the hard-magnetization $b$-axis. From the results of heat capacity measurements in magnetic fields, we found a drastic diverging electronic h…
Multiple unconventional superconducting phases are suspected to be driven by magnetic fluctuations in the heavy-fermion paramagnet UTe$_2$, and a challenge is to identify the signatures of the electronic correlations, including the magnetic fluctuations, in the bulk physical quantities. Here, we investigate thoroughly the anisotropy of the electrical resistivity of UTe$_2$ under intense magnetic fields up to 70~T, for different electrical-current and magnetic-field configurations. Two characteristic temperatures and an anisotropic low-temperature Fermi-liquid-like coefficient $A$, controlled b…
The behavior of the residual (impurity-dominated) resistivity is computed for a material near a two dimensional quantum critical point characterized by a divergent $q=0$ susceptibility. A singular renormalization of the amplitude for back-scattering of an electron off of a single impurity is found. When the correlation length of the quantum critical point exceeds the mean free path, the singular renormalization is found to convert the familiar `Altshuler-Aronov' logarithmic correction to the conductivity into a squared-logarithmic form. Impurities can induce unconventional Friedel oscillations…
We report a high field investigation (up to 45 T) of the metamagnetic transition in CeIrIn$_5$ with resistivity and de-Haas-van-Alphen (dHvA) effect measurements in the temperature range 0.03-1 K. As the magnetic field is increased the resistivity increases, reaches a maximum at the metamagnetic critical field, and falls precipitously for fields just above the transition, while the amplitude of all measurable dHvA frequencies are significantly attenuated near the metamagnetic critical field. However, the dHvA frequencies and cyclotron masses are not substantially altered by the transition. In …
We report a metamagnetic critical point at (B*,T*)=(5.1T,1.1K) for magnetic fields applied perpendicular to the (tetragonal) c-axis of Sr3Ru2O7. First-order behaviour well below T* indicates that (B*,T*) marks a critical end-point that terminates a line of first-order metamagnetic transitions. The absence of first-order behaviour in the metamagnetic transition with B||c confirms that the non-Fermi liquid behaviour for B||c is underpinned by a metamagnetic quantum critical end-point for which T*->0. Scaling behaviour of the resistivity under hydrostatic pressure yields the surprising result tha…
We report electrical resistivity, ac magnetic susceptibility and X-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements of intermediate valence YbNi$_{3}$Ga$_{9}$ under pressure and magnetic field. We have revealed a characteristic pressure-induced Yb valence crossover within the temperature-pressure phase diagram, and a first-order metamagnetic transition is found below $P_{\rm c}$ $\sim$ 9 GPa where the system undergoes a pressure-induced antiferromagnetic transition. As a possible origin of the metamagnetic behavior, a critical valence fluctuation emerging near the critical point of the first-order val…
We report complex metamagnetic transitions in single crystals of the new low carrier Kondo antiferromagnet YbRh3Si7. Electrical transport, magnetization, and specific heat measurements reveal antiferromagnetic order at T_N = 7.5 K. Neutron diffraction measurements show that the magnetic ground state of YbRh3Si7 is a collinear antiferromagnet where the moments are aligned in the ab plane. With such an ordered state, no metamagnetic transitions are expected when a magnetic field is applied along the c axis. It is therefore surprising that high field magnetization, torque, and resistivity measure…
We study the temperature dependence of electrical resistivity for currents directed along all crystallographic axes of the spin-triplet superconductor UTe$_{2}$. We focus particularly on an accurate determination of the resistivity along the $c$-axis ($ρ_c$) by using a generalized Montgomery technique that allows extraction of crystallographic resistivity components from a single sample. In contrast to expectations from the observed highly anisotropic band structure, our measurement of the absolute values of resistivities in all current directions reveals a surprisingly nearly isotropic transp…
We report an electrical transport study in Ca$_{2-x}$Sr$_{x}$RuO$_4$ single crystals at high magnetic fields ($B$). For $x =0.2$, the Hall constant $R_{xy}$ decreases sharply at an anisotropic metamagnetic (MM) transition reaching its value for Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ at high fields. A sharp decrease in the $A$ coefficient of the resistivity $T^2$-term and a change in the structure of the angular magnetoresistance oscillations (AMRO) for $B$ rotating in the planes, confirms the reconstruction of the Fermi surface (FS). Our observations and LDA calculations indicate a strong dependence of the FS on the C…
We report on the observation of large, step-like anomalies in the magnetization ($ΔM = 0.74$\,$μ_{\rm B}$/Ce), in the magnetostriction ($Δl/l_{0} = 2.0 \cdot 10^{-3}$), and in the magnetoresistance in polycrystals of the paramagnetic heavy-fermion system CeTiGe at a critical magnetic field $μ_0 H_c \approx $ 12.5\,T at low temperatures. The size of these anomalies is much larger than those reported for the prototypical heavy-fermion metamagnet CeRu$_2$Si$_2$. Furthermore, hysteresis between increasing and decreasing field data indicate a real thermodynamic, first-order type of phase transition…
Despite intense experimental efforts, the nature of the unconventional superconducting order parameter of UTe$_2$ remains elusive. This puzzle stems from different reported numbers of superconducting transitions at ambient pressure, as well as a complex pressure-temperature phase diagram. To bring new insights into the superconducting properties of UTe$_2$, we measured the heat capacity and electrical resistivity of single crystals under compressive uniaxial stress $σ$ applied along different crystallographic directions. We find that the critical temperature $T_{\rm c}$ of the single observed …
We present magnetoresistivity measurements on the heavy-fermion superconductor UTe$_{2}$ in pulsed magnetic fields $μ_0H$ up to 68~T and temperatures $T$ from 1.4 to 80~K. Magnetic fields applied along the three crystallographic directions $\mathbf{a}$ (easy magnetic axis), $\mathbf{b}$, and $\mathbf{c}$ (hard magnetic axes), are found to induce different phenomena - depending on the field direction - beyond the low-field suppression of the superconducting state. For $\mathbf{H}\parallel\mathbf{a}$, a broad anomaly in the resistivity is observed at $μ_0H^*\simeq10$~T and $T = 1.4$~K. For $\mat…
UTe$_2$ is a recently discovered unconventional superconductor that has attracted much interest due to its many intriguing properties - a large residual density-of-states in the superconducting state, re-entrant superconductivity in high magnetic fields, and potentially spin-triplet topological superconductivity. Our ac calorimetry, electrical resistivity, and x-ray absorption study of UTe$_2$ under applied pressure reveals key new insights on the superconducting and magnetic states surrounding pressure-induced quantum criticality at P$_{c1}$ = 1.3 GPa. First, our specific heat data at low pre…
A caged compound CeOs2Al10, crystallizing in the orthorhombic YbFe2Al10-type structure, undergoes a mysterious phase transition at T_0=29 K. We report the results of electron diffraction, magnetization, and magnetoresistance for single crystals. Superlattice reflections characterized by a wave vector q = (0, -2/3, 2/3) observed at 15 K indicate a structural modification in the ordered state. Activation-type behavior of the electrical resistivity along the three principal axes below 50 K suggests gap opening in the conduction band. The magnetic susceptibility χ= M/B is highly anisotropic, χ_a>χ…
Large magnetocaloric effect (MCE) and magnetoresistance (MR) together with negligible hysteresis loss has been observed in ErNiSi compound, which undergoes metamagnetic transition at low temperatures. Magnetization, heat capacity and resistivity measurements confirm the metamagnetic transition. The maximum value of isothermal entropy change and MR for a field change of 50 kOe are found to be 19.1 J/kg K and -34 %. Large MCE with negligible magnetic hysteresis loss could make this material promising for low temperature magnetic refrigeration.
The magnetic, thermal and transport properties as well as electronic band structure of MnPtSi are reported. MnPtSi is a metal that undergoes a ferromagnetic transition at $T_{\mathrm{C}}=340$(1) K and a spin-reorientation transition at $T_{\mathrm{N}}=326$(1) K to an antiferromagnetic phase. First-principles electronic structure calculations indicate a not-fully polarized spin state of Mn in a $d^5$ electron configuration with $J=S=3$/2, in agreement with the saturation magnetization of 3~$μ_{\mathrm{B}}$ in the ordered state and the observed paramagnetic effective moment. A sizeable anomalous…
The rare-earth ions (RE = Eu, Dy Ho, Tm, Y) substituted charge-ordered antiferromagnetic manganites, Pr0.45RE0.05Ca0.5MnO3, were studied for the magnetic and the transport properties in the presence of external magnetic-fields of up to 14 Tesla. Regardless of the intrinsic magnetic property of RE ions, all the compounds exhibit successive step-like metamagnetic transitions at low temperatures, which are strongly correlated to their electronic transitions. At any fixed temperature in two different temperature-regimes, we observed contrary effects of the magnetic-field cycling on the resistivity…
Resistivity and magnetostriction measurements were performed at high magnetic fields and under pressure on UCoAl. At ambient pressure, the 1st order metamagnetic transition at H_m ~ 0.7 T from the paramagnetic ground state to the field-induced ferromagnetic state changes to a crossover at finite temperature T_0 ~11 K. With increasing pressure, H_m linearly increases, while T_0 decreases and is suppressed at the quantum critical endpoint (QCEP, P_QCEP ~ 1.5 GPa, H_m ~ 7 T). At higher pressure, the value of H_m identified as a crossover continuously increases, while a new anomaly appears above P…
The effect of hydrostatic pressure on resistivity and magnetic ac susceptibility has been studied in Mn-doped CdGeAs2 room-temperature (RT) ferromagnetic chalcopyrite with two types of MnAs micro-clusters. The slight increase of temperature by about 30 K in the region between RT and Curie temperature TC causes a significant change in the positions of pressure-induced semiconductor-metal transition and magnetic phase transitions in low pressure area. By conducting measurements of the anomalous Hall resistance in the field H \leq 5 kOe, we present experimental evidence for pressure-induced metam…
We present specific heat and resistivity study of CeIrIn5 in magnetic fields up to 17 T and temperature down to 50 mK. Both quantities were measured with the magnetic field parallel to the c-axis (H || [001]) and within the a-b plane (H \perp [001]). Non-Fermi-liquid (NFL) behavior develops above 12 T for H || [001]. The Fermi liquid state is much more robust for H \perp [001] and is suppressed only moderately at the highest applied field. Based on the observed trends and the proximity to a metamagnetic phase transition, which exists at fields above 25 T for H || [001], we suggest that the obs…
We report on Hall resistivity and electrical resistivity measurements under pressure and magnetic field in UGe_2 with ferromagnetic (FM) tricriticality. The Hall resistivity sensitively detects the first order metamagnetic transition from a paramagnetic (PM) phase to a FM phase in a large pressure range almost up to the quantum critical end point (QCEP). The drastic change in the Fermi surface at the PM-FM transition is detected up to the vicinity of the QCEP, while a strong modification in the field variation of the inelastic scattering between electrons is observed toward the QCEP. The compa…
Resistivity measurements performed under pressure in the paramagnetic ground state of CeRu2Si2 are reported. They demonstrate that the relative change of effective mass through the pseudo metamagnetic transition is invariant under pressure. The results are compared with the first order metamagnetic transition due to the antiferromagnetism of Ce0.9La0.1Ru2Si2 which corresponds to the "negative" pressure of CeRu2Si2 by volume expansion. Finally, we describe the link between the spin-depairing of quasiparticles on CeRu2Si2 and that of Cooper pairs on the unconventional heavy fermion superconducto…
We report on the electronic and thermodynamic properties of the antiferromagnetic metal uranium mononitride with a Néel temperature $T_N\approx 53\,$K. The fabrication of microstructures from single crystals enables us to study the low-temperature metamagnetic transition at approximately $58\,$T by high-precision magnetotransport, Hall-effect, and magnetic-torque measurements. We confirm the evolution of the high-field transition from a broad and complex behavior to a sharp first-order-like step, associated with a spin flop at low temperature. In the high-field state, the magnetic contribution…
Electrical resistivity ($ρ$), magnetoresistance (MR), magnetization, thermopower and Hall effect measurements on the single crystal Gd$_{2}$PdSi$_3$, crystallizing in an AlB$_2$-derived hexagonal structure are reported. The well-defined minimum in $ρ$ at a temperature above Néel temperature (T$_N$= 21 K) and large negative MR below $\sim$ 3T$_N$, reported earlier for the polycrystals, are reproducible even in single crystals. Such features are generally uncharacteristic of Gd alloys. In addition, we also found interesting features in other data, e.g., two-step first-order-like metamagnetic tra…
Sr4Ru3O10 is characterized by a sharp metamagnetic transition and ferromagnetic behavior occurring within the basal plane and along the c-axis, respectively. Resistivity at magnetic field, B, exhibits low-frequency quantum oscillations when B||c-axis and large magnetoresistivity accompanied by critical fluctuations driven by the metamagnetism when B^c-axis. The complex behavior evidenced in resistivity, magnetization and specific heat presented is not characteristic of any obvious ground states, and points to an exotic state that shows a delicate balance between fluctuations and order.
We report a detailed study of step-like metamagnetic transitions in the magnetization and resistivity of polycrystalline Pr0.5Ca0.5Mn0.95Co0.05O3. The steps have a sudden onset below a critical temperature, are extremely sharp (width < 0.2 mT), and occur at critical fields which are linearly dependent on the absolute value of the cooling field in which the sample is prepared. Similar transitions are also observed at low temperature in non-Co doped manganites, including single crystal samples. These data show that the steps are an intrinsic property, qualitatively different from either previous…

To investigate the Hall resistivity rH of systems with non-trivial spin structures, transport and magnetic properties of the oxygen deficient perovskite system TbBaCo2O5.53 with non-trivial magnetic structures have been adopted. As has been already known, the system exhibits, with decreasing temperature T, a transition to a ferromagnetic (FM) phase with non-collinear magnetic structure at TC 280 K in zero magnetic field and with further decreasing T, the spontaneous magnetization begins to decrease at T1~260 K and becomes zero at TN 245 K, where an antiferromagnetic (AFM) phase with non-collin…
The electrical resistance, Hall resistance and thermoelectric power of the Ising-like antiferromagnet UIrSi3 were measured as functions of temperature and magnetic field. We have observed that the unequivocally different characters of first-order and second-order magnetic phase transitions lead to distinctly different magnetotransport properties in the neighborhood of corresponding critical temperatures and magnetic fields, respectively. The magnetic contributions to the electrical and Hall resistivity in the antiferromagnetic state, and the polarized and normal regimes of paramagnetic state a…
We investigate the ultra-sharp jump in the isothermal magnetization and the resistivity in the polycrystalline $Sm_{0.5}(Ca_{0.5-y}Sr_{y})MnO_3$ $(y = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.5)$ compounds. The critical field $(H_{cr})$, required for the ultra-sharp jump, decreases with increase of `Sr' concentration, i.e. with increase of average A-site ionic radius $\langle r_A\rangle$. The magnetotransport data indicate that the phase separation increases with the increase of $\langle r_A\rangle$, i.e. with $y$. The dependency of $H_{cr}$ with magnetic field sweep rate reveals that the ultra-sharp jump fr…
Hall effect measurements were performed under pressure and magnetic field up to 2.2 GPa and 16 T on a single crystal of UCoAl. At ambient pressure, the system undergoes a first order metamagnetic transition at the critical field B_m = 0.7 T from a paramagnetic ground state to a field-induced ferromagnetic state. The Hall signal is linear at low field and shows a step-like anomaly at the transition, with only little change of the Hall coefficient. The anomaly is sharpest at the temperature of the critical end point T_0 = 12 K above which the first order metamagnetic transition becomes a crossov…
Single crystals of a honeycomb lattice antiferromagnet, Tb$_2$Ir$_3$Ga$_9$ were synthesized, and the physical properties have been studied. From magnetometry, a long-range antiferromagnetic ordering at $\approx$12.5 K with highly anisotropic magnetic behavior was found. Neutron powder diffraction confirms that the Tb spins lie along the $\va $-axis, parallel to the shortest Tb-Tb contact. Two field-induced spin-flip transitions are observed when the field is applied parallel to this axis, separated by a plateau corresponding roughly to M$\approx$M$_{\rm{s}}$/2. Transport measurements show the …
We report results of the first studies on the magnetic and transport properties of a new material CeNiBi_2. The magnetic susceptibility exhibits a sharp peak at T_N = 6K, indicating an antiferromagnetic phase transition. This antiferromagnetic order below T_N is confirmed by magnetization measurement, which displays a metamagnetic-like transition at H_m = 5 T. Both low-temperature susceptibility and high-field magnetization are suggestive of strong crystalline-electric-field effect in CeNiBi_2. The electrical resistivity shows the presence of Kondo and crystal-field effects with a sharp drop b…
We report the observation of an extreme magnetoresistance (XMR) in HoBi with a large magnetic moment from Ho f-electrons. Neutron scattering is used to determine the magnetic wave vectors across several metamagnetic (MM) transitions on the phase diagram of HoBi. Unlike other magnetic rare-earth monopnictides, the field dependence of resistivity in HoBi is non-monotonic and reveals clear signatures of every metamagnetic transition in the low-temperature and low-field regime, at T < 2 K and H < 2.3 T. The XMR appears at H > 2.3 T after all the metamagnetic transitions are complete and the system…
The phase diagram of Sr3Ru2O7 contains a metamagnetic transition that bifurcates to enclose an anomalous phase with intriguing properties - a large resistivity with anisotropy that breaks the crystal-lattice symmetry. We propose that this is a magnetic analogue of the spatially inhomogeneous superconducting Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state. We show - through a Ginzburg-Landau expansion where the magnetisation transverse to the applied field can become spatially inhomogeneous - that a Stoner model with electronic band dispersion can reproduce this phase diagram and transport behaviour.
The phase diagram of Sr3Ru2O7 contains a metamagnetic transition that bifurcates to enclose an anomalous phase with intriguing properties - a large resistivity with anisotropy that breaks the crystal-lattice symmetry. We propose that this is a magnetic analogue of the spatially inhomogeneous superconducting Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state. Based on a microscopic theory of Stoner magnetism we derive a Ginzburg-Landau expansion where the magnetisation transverse to the applied field can become spatially inhomogeneous. We show that this reproduces the observed phase diagram of Sr3Ru2O7.
We have successfully grown the single crystals of CeAg$_2$Ge$_2$, for the first time, by flux method and studied the anisotropic physical properties by measuring the electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat. We found that CeAg$_2$Ge$_2$ undergoes an antiferromagnetic transition at $T_{\rm N}$ = 4.6 K. The electrical resistivity and susceptibility data reveal strong anisotropic magnetic properties. The magnetization measured at $T$ = 2 K exhibited two metamagnetic transitions at $H_{\rm m1}$ = 31 kOe and $H_{\rm m2}$ = 44.7 kOe, for $H \parallel$ [100] with a saturation…
We have investigated the $Ln^{3+}$-substitution ($Ln$ = lanthanoid) effect of a quasi two-dimensional ferromagnet Sr$_3$Fe$_{2-x}$Co$_x$O$_{7-δ}$ ($x$$ = $0.5). %$Ln^{3+}$-substitution creates antiferromagnetic insulating clusters around $Ln^{3+}$. With increasing $Ln^{3+}$-concentration, the ferromagnetism is gradually suppressed and the resistivity is increasing, which are ascribed to an increase in antiferromagnetic (AFM) clusters created by $Ln^{3+}$-substitution. In Sr$_{2.7}$Gd$_{0.3}$Fe$_{1.5}$Co$_{0.5}$O$_{7-δ}$, the magnetoresistance (MR) is enhanced by about 20 % compared with that o…
Polycrystalline HoSn1.1Ge0.9 and DySn1.1Ge0.9 compounds have been studied by means of different experimental probes. Both the compounds are antiferromagnetic and show metamagnetic transition at low temperatures. HoSn1.1Ge0.9 shows a sign change in magnetocaloric effect (MCE) and magnetoresistance (MR) with field, which is attributed to the metamagnetic transition. DySn1.1Ge0.9 shows characteristics of a typical antiferromagnet, as evidenced by magnetization, MCE and MR data. 119Sn Mössbauer studies show hyperfine splitting at low temperatures, consistent with magnetization data. Thermoelectric…
We report a detailed study of the magnetic properties of CeCo$_{0.85}$Fe$_{0.15}$Si under high magnetic fields (up to 16 Tesla) measuring different physical properties such as specific heat, magnetization, electrical resistivity, thermal expansion and magnetostriction. CeCo$_{0.85}$Fe$_{0.15}$Si becomes antiferromagnetic at $T_N \approx$ 6.7 K. However, a broad tail (onset at $T_X \approx$ 13 K) in the specific heat precedes that second order transition. This tail is also observed in the temperature derivative of the resistivity. However, it is particularly noticeable in the thermal expansion …
We systematically studied the transport properties of single crystals of $Eu_{1-x}Sr_xFe_{2-y}$Co$_{y}As_2$. Co doping can suppress the spin-density wave (SDW) ordering and induces a superconducting transition, but a resistivity reentrance due to the antiferromagnetic ordering of $Eu^{2+}$ spins is observed, indicating the competition between antiferromagnetism (AFM) and superconductivity. It is striking that the resistivity reentrance can be completely suppressed by external magnetic field (H) because a metamagnetic transition from antiferromagnetism to ferromagnetism for $Eu^{2+}$ spins is i…
