The effects of spin independent hybridization potential and spin orbit coupling on two band superconductor with equal time s-wave inter band pairing order parameter is investigated theoretically. To study symmetry classes in two band superconductors the Gorkov equations are solved analytically. By defining spin singlet and spin triplet s wave order parameter due to two band degree of freedom the symmetry classes of Cooper pair are studied. For spin singlet case it is shown that spin independent hybridization generates Cooper pair belongs to even frequency spin singlet even momentum even band parity (ESEE) symmetry class for both intraband and interband pairing correlations. For spin triplet order parameter, intraband pairing correlation generates odd frequency spin triplet even momentum even band parity (OTEE) symmetry class whereas, interband pairing correlation generates even frequency spin triplet even momentum odd band parity ETEO) class. For the spin singlet, spin orbit coupling generates pairing correlation that belongs to odd frequency spin singlet odd momentum even band parity (OSOE) symmetry class and even frequency spin singlet even momentum even band parity (ESEE) for intraband and interband pairing correlation respectively. In the spin triplet case for itraband and interband correlation, spin orbit coupling generates even-frequency spin triplet odd momentum even band parity (ETOE) and even frequency spin triplet even momentum odd band parity (ETEO) respectively.
We investigate how hybridization (single-quasiparticle scattering) between two superconducting bands induces odd-frequency superconductivity in a multiband superconductor. An explicit derivation of the odd-frequency pairing correlation and its full frequency dependence is given. We find that the density of states is modified, from the sum of the two BCS spectra, at higher energies by additional hybridization gaps with strong coherence peaks when odd-frequency pairing is present.
We point out that essentially all multi-band superconductors have an odd-frequency pairing component, as follows from a general symmetry analysis of even- and odd-frequency pairing states. We show that odd-frequency superconducting pairing requires only a finite band hybridization, or scattering, and non-identical intraband order parameters, of which only one band needs to be superconducting. Under these conditions odd-frequency odd-interband pairing is always present. From a symmetry analysis we establish a complete reciprocity between parity in band-index and frequency.
Using random-phase approximation spin-fluctuation theory, we study the influence of the hybridization between iron $d$-orbitals and pnictide $p$-orbitals on the superconducting pairing state in iron-based superconductors. The calculations are performed for a 16-orbital Hubbard-Hund tight-binding model of BaFe$_2$As$_2$ that includes the As-$p$ orbital degrees of freedom in addition to the Fe-$d$ orbitals and compared to calculations for a 10-orbital Fe-$d$ only model. In both models we find a leading $s^\pm$ pairing state and a subleading $d_ {x^2-y^2}$-wave state in the parent compound. Upon …
In this article we review recent progress in the understanding of multiband superconductivity and its relationship to odd-frequency pairing. We begin our discussion by reviewing the emergence of odd-frequency pairing in a simple two-band model, providing a brief pedagogical overview of the formalism. We then examine several examples of multiband superconducting systems in each case describing, both, the origin of the band degree of freedom and the nature of the odd-frequency pairing. Throughout, we attempt to convey a unified picture of how odd-frequency pairing emerges in these materials and …
A theoretical study is presented on the odd-frequency spin-singlet pairing that arises in nonuniform even-frequency superconductors as a consequence of broken translation symmetry. The effect of the odd-frequency pairing on the superfluid density and the spin susceptibility is analyzed by using the quasiclassical theory of superconductivity. It is shown that (1) the superfluid density is reduced by the formation of the odd-frequency singlet pairs and (2) the odd-frequency pairing increases the spin susceptibility even though its spin symmetry is singlet. The two unusual phenomena are related t…
Using a simple theoretical model, we demonstrate the emergence of odd-frequency pair amplitudes in conventional Josephson junctions both in the absence of a voltage (DC effect) and in the presence of a finite voltage (AC effect). In both cases, we find that odd-frequency interlead pairing emerges whenever a Josephson current is expected to flow. Additionally, we show that the interlead spin-susceptibility is directly influenced by the presence of the odd-frequency pair amplitudes. Specifically, we find that the spin-susceptibility is suppressed when the odd-frequency component is the largest. …
We show that quasiparticle interference (QPI) due to omnipresent weak impurities and probed by Fourier transform scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy acts as a direct experimental probe of bulk odd-frequency superconducting pairing. Taking the example of a conventional $s$-wave superconductor under applied magnetic field, we show that the nature of the QPI peaks can only be characterized by including the odd-frequency pairing correlations generated in this system. In particular, we identify that the defining feature of odd-frequency pairing gives rise to a bias asymmetry in the QPI, …
We study the emergence of odd-frequency superconducting pairing in UPt$_3$. Starting from a tight-binding model accounting for the nonsymmorphic crystal symmetry of UPt$_3$ and assuming an order parameter in the $E_{2u}$ representation, we demonstrate that odd-frequency pairing arises very generally, as soon as inter-sublattice hopping or spin-orbit coupling is present. We also show that in the low temperature superconducting $B$ phase, the presence of a chiral order parameter together with spin-orbit coupling, leads to additional odd-frequency pair amplitudes not present in the $A$ or $C$ pha…
In this paper, we investigate the relation between odd-frequency pairing and proximity effect in non-uniform Kitaev chain systems with a particular interest in the topological critical point. First, we correlate the odd-frequency pairing and Majorana fermion in a semi-infinite Kitaev chain, where we find that the spatial dependence of the odd-frequency pair amplitude coincides with that of the local density of states at low frequencies. Second, we demonstrate that, contrary to the standard view, the odd-frequency pair amplitude spreads into the bulk of a semi-infinite Kitaev chain at the topol…
The Meissner effect is one of the defining properties of superconductivity, with a conventional superconductor completely repelling an external magnetic field. In contrast to this diamagnetic behavior, odd-frequency superconducting pairing has often been seen to produce a paramagnetic Meissner effect, which instead makes the superconductor unstable due to the attraction of magnetic field. In this work we study how both even- and odd-frequency superconducting pairing contributes to the Meissner effect in a generic two-orbital superconductor with a tunable odd-frequency pairing component. By div…
In several members of the pnictide materials, spin density wave order coexists with superconductivity over a range of dopings and temperature. In this paper we show that odd-frequency superconductivity emerges on the edges of pnictides in such a coexistence phase. In particular, the breaking of spin-rotation symmetry by SDW and translation symmetry by the edge can lead to the development of odd-frequency spin-triplet Cooper pairing on edges of superconducting pnictide samples. In this case, the odd-frequency pairing has even parity components, which are immune to disorder. Our results show tha…
We theoretically study the effects of spin-orbit interactions on symmetry of a Cooper pair in a spin-singlet d-wave superconductor in two-dimension. The pairing symmetry is analyzed in terms of the anomalous Green's function which is obtained by solving the Gor'kov equation analytically. A spin-orbit interaction induces a spin-triplet p-wave pairing correlation in a uniform superconductor. An odd-frequency spin-triplet s-wave pairing correlation appears at a surface of such superconductor as a result of breaking inversion symmetry locally. We also discuss a close relationship among the odd-fre…
We study superconductivity in spin-orbit-coupled systems in the vicinity of inversion symmetry breaking. We find that due to the presence of spin-orbit coupling, fluctuations of the incipient parity-breaking order generate an attractive pairing interaction in an odd-parity pairing channel, which competes with the s-wave pairing. We show that applying a Zeeman field suppresses the s-wave pairing and promotes the odd-parity superconducting state. Our work provides a new mechanism for odd-parity pairing and opens a route to novel topological superconductivity.
Recent experiments indicate that superconductivity in Bi$_2$Se$_3$ intercalated with Cu, Nb or Sr is nematic with rotational symmetry breaking. Motivated by this observation, we present a model study of nematic and chiral superconductivity induced by odd-parity fluctuations. We show that odd-parity fluctuations in the two-component $E_u$ representation of $D_{3d}$ crystal point group can generate attractive interaction in both the even-parity $s$-wave and odd-parity $E_u$ pairing channels, but repulsive interaction in other odd-parity pairing channels. Coulomb repulsion can suppress $s$-wave p…

We study two-band one-dimensional superconducting chains of spinless fermions with inter and intra-band pairing. These bands hybridize and depending on the relative angular momentum of their orbitals this can be symmetric or anti-symmetric. The competition between intra and inter-band superconductivity and how it is affected by the symmetry of the hybridization is investigated. The interband pairing is shown to be dominant on a large region of parameter space. A rich phase diagram is found in the presence of anti-symmetric hybridization. The topological properties of the model are obtained thr…
We discuss the appearance of odd-frequency spin-triplet s-wave superconductivity, first proposed by Berezinskii [{\it JETP} {\bf 20}, 287 (1974)], on the surface of a topological insulator proximity coupled to a conventional spin-singlet s-wave superconductor. Using both analytical and numerical methods we show that this disorder robust odd-frequency state is present whenever there is an in-surface gradient in the proximity induced gap, including superconductor-normal state (SN) junctions. The time-independent order parameter for the odd-frequency superconductor is proportional to the in-surfa…
We investigate general structure of Landau free energy for stabilizing a novel superconducting state with both even-frequency and odd-frequency components in gap function. On the basis of the Luttinger-Ward functional, we elucidate an emergent mixing between different "parities" in time. The simplest case of the conventional s-wave singlet mixed with the odd-frequency triplet state under broken time-reversal symmetry is examined to demonstrate the anomalous structure of the free-energy functional. The induced odd-frequency component alters behaviors of physical quantities from those obtained b…
We show that mixed-parity superconductors may exhibit equal-spin pair correlations that are odd-in-time and can be tuned by means of an applied field. The direction and the amplitude of the pair correlator in the spin space turn out to be strongly dependent on the symmetry of the order parameter, and thus provide a tool to identify different types of singlet-triplet mixed configurations. We find that odd-in-time spin-polarized pair correlations can be generated without magnetic inhomogeneities in superconducting/ferromagnetic hybrids when parity mixing is induced at the interface.
We study the interplay between proximity-induced superconductivity and ferromagnetism in graphene by self-consistently solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations on the honeycomb lattice. We find that a strong triplet proximity effect is generated in graphene, leading to odd-frequency pairing correlations. These odd-frequency correlations are clearly manifested in the local density of states of the graphene sheet, which can be probed via STM-measurements. Motivated by recent experiments on S$\mid$N$\mid$S graphene Josephson junctions, we also study the spectrum of Andreev-bound states formed i…
We investigate characteristic features in the spin response of doped three-dimensional topological insulators with odd-parity unequal-spin superconducting pairing, which are predicted to have gapless Majorana surface modes. These Majorana modes contribute to the local spin susceptibility, giving rise to a characteristic temperature behavior of the Knight shift and the spin-lattice relaxation time in magnetic resonance experiments. Because of their different decay lengths, the Majorana modes can be observed and clearly distinguished from the Dirac modes of the topological insulator by local pro…
Doped Bi$_2$Se$_3$ is proposed to be a nematic superconductor originating from unusual inter-orbital pairing. We classify all induced superconducting pair correlations in Bi$_2$Se$_3$ and discover that intra-orbital odd-frequency pairing dominates over a significant range of frequencies. Moreover, we explore the contributions of even- and odd-frequency pairing to the Meissner effect, including separating intra- and inter-band processes in the response function. Contrary to expectations, and due to inter-band contributions, we find a diamagnetic odd-frequency Meissner effect.
We study triplet pairing correlations in clean Ferromagnet (F)/Superconductor (S) nanojunctions, via fully self consistent solution of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. We consider FSF trilayers, with S being an s-wave superconductor, and an arbitrary angle $α$ between the magnetizations of the two F layers. We find that contrary to some previous expectations, triplet correlations, odd in time, are induced in both the S and F layers in the clean limit. We investigate their behavior as a function of time, position, and $α$. The triplet amplitudes are largest at times on the order of the inver…
We present a microscopic theory of fluctuation-mediated pairing mechanism in a two-dimensional extended Hubbard model. In contrast to conventional wisdom, odd-frequency spin-triplet pairing can be stabilized near the spin-density-wave critical point. Favorable conditions for the odd-frequency pairing are the presence of geometrical frustration and off-site Coulomb interaction.
We investigate pairing symmetry in the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) vortex state and vortex lattice, and explain the electronic structure in these states in terms of pairing symmetry. We show analytically that at the intersection point of FFLO nodal plane and vortex line, only even frequency pairing is present if the Zeeman splitting is negligibly small. With increasing Zeeman splitting, odd frequency pairing emerges there. This makes it possible to interpret the gap structure of the density of states at the intersection point as a manifestation of the even frequency pairing. In the…
The main proposal of this paper is to analyze the size of the Cooper pairs composed by unbalanced mass fermions from different electronic bands along the BCS-BEC crossover and study the binding energy of the pairs. We are considering an interaction between fermions with different masses leading to an inter-band pairing. In addiction to the attractive interaction we have an hybridization term to couple both bands, which in general acts unfavorable for the pairing between the electrons. We get first order phase transitions as the hybridization break the Cooper pairs for the the $s$-wave symmetry…
We first show the realization of exceptional points in a non-Hermitian superconducting system based on a conventional superconductor and then demonstrate that, surprisingly, the system hosts odd-frequency pairing, solely generated by the non-Hermiticity. While there is a coexistence of even- and odd-frequency pairs under general conditions, we find that the even-frequency term vanishes at the exceptional degeneracies, leaving only odd-frequency pairing. This exceptional odd-frequency pairing is directly given by the imaginary part of the eigenvalues at the exceptional points and can be measure…
The study of multi-band superconductivity is relevant for a variety of systems, from ultra cold atoms with population imbalance to particle physics, and condensed matter. As a consequence, this problem has been widely investigated bringing to light many new and interesting phenomena. In this work we point out and explore a correspondence between a two-band metal with a $k$-dependent hybridization and a uniformly polarized fermionic system in the presence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC). We study the ground state phase diagram of the metal in the presence of an attractive interaction. We find rema…
This article reviews odd-frequency (odd-w) pairing with focus on superconducting systems. Since Berezinskii introduced the concept of odd frequency order in 1974 it has been viewed as an exotic and rarely occurring in nature. Here, we present a view that the Berezinskii state is in fact a ubiquitous superconducting order that is both non-local and odd in time. It appears under quite general circumstances including in bulk materials, heterostructures and dynamically driven superconducting states. It is therefore important to understand the nature of odd-w pairing. We present the properties of o…
Superconductivity is a phenomenon where the macroscopic quantum coherence appears due to the pairing of electrons. This offers a fascinating arena to study the physics of broken gauge symmetry. However, the important symmetries in superconductors are not only the gauge invariance. Especially, the symmetry properties of the pairing, i.e., the parity and spin-singlet/spin-triplet, determine the physical properties of the superconducting state. Recently it has been recognized that there is the important third symmetry of the pair amplitude, i.e., even or odd parity with respect to the frequency. …
We examine the possibility that the superconductivity in the newly discovered FeAs materials may be caused by the Coulomb interaction between d-electrons of the iron atoms. We find that when the Hund's rule ferromagnetic interaction is strong enough, the leading pairing instability is in spin-triplet p-wave channel in the weak coupling limit. The resulting superconducting gap has nodal lines on the 3D Fermi surfaces. The k dependent hybridization of several orbitals around a Fermi pocket is the key for the appearance of the spin-triplet p-wave pairing.
The local density of states (LDOS) around a vortex core is studied theoretically in terms of the odd-frequency (odd-omega) Cooper pairing induced around the center of the vortex core. We find a robust zero-energy peak in the LDOS at a vortex core in a chiral p-wave superconductor originating from an odd-omega s-wave pair amplitude. We suggest how to discriminate a spin-triplet pairing symmetry and spatial chiral-domain structure by scanning tunneling spectroscopy via odd-omega pair amplitudes inside vortex cores.
Majorana fermions are rising as a promising key component in quantum computation. While the prevalent approach is to use a quadratic (i.e. non-interacting) Majorana Hamiltonian, when expressed in terms of Dirac fermions, generically the Hamiltonian involves interaction terms. Here we focus on the possible pair correlations in a simple model system. We study a model of Majorana fermions coupled to a boson mode and show that the anomalous correlator between different Majorana fermions, located at opposite ends of a topological wire, exhibits odd frequency behavior. It is stabilized when the coup…
We demonstrate that, quite generally, the spin-singlet even-parity (spin-triplet odd-parity) pair potential in a superconductor induces the odd-frequency pairing component with spin-singlet odd-parity (spin-triplet even-parity) near interfaces. The magnitude of the induced odd-frequency component is enhanced in the presence of the midgap Andreev resonant state due to the sign change of the anisotropic pair potential at the interface. The Josephson effect should therefore occur between odd- and even-frequency superconductors, contrary to the standard wisdom. A method to probe the odd-frequency …
We have examined the relaxation of photoinduced quasiparticles in the heavy-fermion superconductor PuCoGa5. The deduced electron-phonon coupling constant is incompatible with the measured superconducting transition temperature Tc=18.5 K, which speaks against phonon-mediated superconducting pairing. Upon lowering the temperature, we observe an order-of-magnitude increase of the quasiparticle relaxation time in agreement with the phonon bottleneck scenario - evidence for the presence of a hybridization gap in the electronic density of states. The modification of photoinduced reflectance in the s…
We demonstrate that SrTiO$_3$ can be a platform for observing the bulk odd-frequency superconducting state owing to the multiorbital/multiband nature. We consider a three-orbital tight-binding model for SrTiO$_3$ in the vicinity of a ferroelectric critical point. Assuming an intraorbital spin-singlet $s$-wave superconducting order parameter, it is shown that the odd-frequency pair correlations are generated due to the intrinsic LS coupling which leads to the local orbital mixing. Furthermore, we show the existence of additional odd-frequency pair correlations in the ferroelectric phase, which …
Odd-frequency Cooper pairs are gathering attention for the convenience of investigating the edge state of topological superconductors including Majorana fermions. Although a spinless p-wave superconductor has only one Majorana fermion in a topological phase, the system with magnetic fields can reach the topological phases with multiple Majorana fermions. To distinguish these multiple Majorana fermion phases, we correlate the energy spectrum with the odd-frequency pair amplitude as increasing the system size. The system size dependence tells us three pieces of information: the parity of the num…
We investigate the influence of critical spin fluctuations on electromagnetic responses in the odd-frequency superconductivity. It is shown that the Meissner kernel of the odd-frequency superconductivity is strongly reduced by the critical spin fluctuation or the massless spin wave mode in the antiferromagnetic phase. These results imply that the superfluid density is reduced, and the London penetration depth is lengthened for the odd-frequency pairing. It is also shown that the zero field Flude-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov pairing is spontaneously realized both for even- and odd-frequency in th…
A growing body of literature suggests that odd-frequency superconducting pair amplitudes can be generated in normal metal-superconductor junctions. The emergence of odd-frequency pairing in these systems is often attributed to the breaking of translation invariance. In this work, we study the pair symmetry of a one-dimensional $s$-wave superconductor in the presence of a single non-magnetic impurity and demonstrate that translation symmetry breaking is not sufficient for inducing odd-frequency pairing. We consider three kinds of impurities: a local perturbation of the chemical potential, an im…
We analyze a possibility for odd-frequency pairing near a quantum critical point(QCP) in a metal. We consider a model with dynamical pairing interaction $V(Ω_n)\sim 1/|Ω_n|^γ$ (the $γ$-model). This interaction gives rise to a non-Fermi liquid in the normal state and is attractive for pairing. The two trends compete with each other. We search for odd-frequency solutions for the pairing gap $Δ(ω_m)= -Δ(ω_m)$. We show that for $γ<1$, odd-frequency superconductivity looses the competition with a non-Fermi liquid and does not develop. We show that the pairing does develop in the extended model in w…
We study the impurity effects on the transition temperature Tc with use of the T-matrix approximation. We propose a way to visualize the multi-orbital effect by introducing the hybridization function characterizing the multi-orbital effect for the impurity scattering. Characterizing function does not depend on the superconducting pairing symmetry, since this function is defined by the eigenvectors in normal states. The result indicates that an impurity-robust superconductivity does not necessarily imply a sign- preserving pairing. Visualizing the hybridization effect in the effective five-band…
Confinement at the helical edge of a topological insulator is possible in the presence of proximity-induced magnetic (F) or superconducting (S) order. The interplay of both phenomena leads to the formation of localized Majorana bound states (MBS) or likewise (under certain resonance conditions) the formation of ordinary Andreev bound states (ABS). We investigate the properties of bound states in junctions composed of alternating regions of F or S barriers. Interestingly, the direction of magnetization in F regions and the relative superconducting phase between S regions can be exploited to hyb…
We discuss odd-frequency Cooper pairs appearing in two-band superconductors by solving the Gor'kov equation analytically. We introduce the equal-time $s$-wave pair potentials as realized in MgB$_2$ and iron pnictides. Although the order parameter symmetry is conventional, the band degree of freedom enriches the symmetry variety of pairing correlations. The hybridization and the asymmetry between the two conduction bands induce odd-frequency pairs as a subdominant pairing correlation in the uniform ground state. To study the magnetic response of odd-frequency Cooper pairs, we analyze the Meissn…
Odd-frequency superconductivity is an exotic phase of matter in which Cooper pairing between electrons is entirely dynamical in nature. Majorana zero modes exhibit pure odd-frequency superconducting correlations due to their specific properties. Thus, by tunnel-coupling an array of Majorana zero modes to a spin-polarized wire, it is in principle possible to engineer a bulk one-dimensional odd-frequency spinless $s$-wave superconductor. We here point out that each tunnel coupling element, being dependent on a large number of material-specific parameters, is generically complex with sample varia…
Monolayer superconducting transition metal dichalcogenide NbSe$_2$ is a candidate for a nodal topological superconductor by magnetic field. Because of the so-called Ising spin-orbit coupling that strongly pins the electron spins to the out-of-plane direction, Cooper pairs in monolayer superconductor NbSe$_2$ are protected against an applied in-plane magnetic field much larger than the Pauli limit. In monolayer NbSe$_2$, in addition to the Fermi pockets at the corners of Brillouin zone with opposite crystal momentum similar to other semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides, there is an e…
We study the behavior of Cooper pair amplitudes that emerge when a two-dimensional superconductor is coupled to two parallel nanowires, focusing on the conditions for realizing odd-frequency pair amplitudes in the absence of spin-orbit coupling or magnetism. In general, any finite tunneling between the superconductor and the two nanowires induces odd-frequency spin-singlet pair amplitudes in the substrate as well as a substantial odd-frequency interwire pairing, both of which vanish locally. Interestingly, in the regime of strong superconductor-nanowire tunneling, we find that the presence of …
We show that the Cooper pair wave function at the center of an Abrikosov vortex with vorticity m has different parity with respect to frequency from that in the bulk if m is an odd number and has the same parity if m is an even number. As a result, in a conventional vortex with m=1, the local density of states at the Fermi energy has a maximum (minimum) at the center of the vortex core in even(odd)-frequency superconductor. We propose a scanning tunneling microscope experiment using a superconducting tip to explore odd-frequency superconductivity.
It is now well established that at a superconductor/ferromagnet (S/F) interface an unconventional superconducting state arises in which the pairing state is odd-frequency. The hallmark signature of this superconducting state is generally understood to be an enhancement of the electronic density of states (DoS) at subgap energies close to the S/F interface. However, here we show that an odd frequency state can be present even if the DoS is fully gapped. As an example, we show that this is the case in the pioneering S/FI (where FI is a insulating ferromagnet) tunneling experiments of Meservey an…
Superconductive properties of the two-leg ladder compounds are studied theoretically. The antiferromagnetic fluctuations are considered because of the good nesting of the Fermi surfaces. The attractive interaction which is most likely due to the electron-phonon coupling is also taken into account. Under this circumstance, it is shown that the superconductivity has two sets of spin-triplet pairings. The gaps for both pairings have no node.
We here examine the relation between odd-frequency spin-triple even-parity (OTE) Cooper pairs and anomalous surface magnetic response in time-reversal invariant (TRI) spin-triplet superfluids and superconductors. The spin susceptibility generally consists of two contributions: Even-frequency odd-parity pair amplitudes and odd-frequency even-parity pair amplitudes. The OTE pair amplitudes are absent in the bulk region, but ubiquitously exist in the surface and interface region as Andreev bound states. We here clarify that additional discrete symmetries, originating from the internal symmetry an…
We theoretically predict proximity-induced odd-frequency (odd-$ω$) pairing on the surface of a Weyl nodal loop semimetal, characterized by a nodal loop Fermi surface and drumhead-like surface states (DSSs), attached to conventional spin-singlet $s$-wave superconducting leads. Due to the complete spin polarization of the DSS, odd-$ω$ equal-spin triplet pairing is present, and we show that it gives rise to a finite Josephson current. Placing an additional ferromagnet in the junction can also generate odd-$ω$ mixed-spin triplet pairing, but the pairing and current is not affected if the magnetiza…
We investigate the mutual proximity effect in a normal metal contacted to a superconductor through a magnetic interface. Analytical and self-consistent numerical results are presented, and we consider both the diffusive and ballistic regimes. We focus on the density of states in both the normal and superconducting region, and find that the presence of spin-dependent phase-shifts occurring at the interface qualitatively modifies the density of states. In particular, we find that the proximity-induced pairing amplitudes in the normal metal region undergo a conversion at the Fermi level from pure…
Topological superconductors give rise to unconventional superconductivity, which is mainly characterized by the symmetry of the superconducting pairing amplitude. However, since the symmetry of the superconducting pairing amplitude is not directly observable, its experimental identification is rather difficult. In our work, we propose a system, composed of a quantum point contact and proximity induced s-wave superconductivity at the helical edge of a two dimensional topological insulator, for which we demonstrate the presence of odd-frequency pairing and its intimate connection to unambiguous …
Motivated by the recent discovery of superconductivity in square-planar nickelates as well as by longstanding puzzling experiments in heavy-fermion superconductors, we study Cooper pairing between correlated $d$-electrons coupled to a band of weakly-correlated electrons. We perform self-consistent large N calculations on an effective $t-J$ model for the $d$-electrons with additional hybridization. Unlike previous studies of mixed-valent systems, we focus on parameter regimes where both hybridized bands are relevant to determining the pairing symmetry. For sufficiently strong hybridization, we …
