Massive neutrinos suppress the growth of structure on small scales and leave an imprint on large-scale structure that can be measured to constrain their total mass, $M_ν$. With standard analyses of two-point clustering statistics, $M_ν$ constraints are severely limited by parameter degeneracies. Hahn et al.(2020) demonstrated that the bispectrum, the next higher-order statistic, can break these degeneracies and dramatically improve constraints on $M_ν$ and other cosmological parameters. In this paper, we present the constraining power of the redshift-space galaxy bispectrum, $B_0^g$. We construct the Molino suite of 75,000 mock galaxy catalogs from the Quijote $N$-body simulations using the halo occupation distribution (HOD) model, which provides a galaxy bias framework well-suited for simulation-based approaches. Using these mocks, we present Fisher matrix forecasts for $\{Ω_m,Ω_b,h,n_s,σ_8, M_ν\}$ and quantify, for the first time, the total information content of $B_0^g$ down to nonlinear scales. For $k_{\rm max}=0.5h/Mpc$, $B_0^g$ improves constraints on $Ω_m,Ω_b,h,n_s,σ_8$, and $M_ν$ by 2.8, 3.1, 3.8, 4.2, 4.2, and $4.6\times$ over the power spectrum, after marginalizing over HOD parameters. Even with priors from $Planck$, $B_0^g$ improves all of the cosmological constraints by $\gtrsim2\times$. In fact, for $P_\ell^g$ and $B_0^g$ out to $k_{\rm max}=0.5h/Mpc$ with $Planck$ priors, we achieve a $1σ$ $M_ν$ constraint of 0.048 eV, which is tighter than the current best cosmological constraint. While effects such as survey geometry and assembly bias will have an impact, these constraints are derived for $(1h^{-1}{\rm Gpc})^3$, a substantially smaller volume than upcoming surveys. Therefore, we conclude that the galaxy bispectrum will significantly improve cosmological constraints for upcoming galaxy surveys -- especially for $M_ν$.
We explore the effect of massive neutrinos on the weak lensing shear bispectrum using the Cosmological Massive Neutrino Simulations. We find that the primary effect of massive neutrinos is to suppress the amplitude of the bispectrum with limited effect on the bispectrum shape. The suppression of the bispectrum amplitude is a factor of two greater than the suppression of the small scale power-spectrum. For an LSST-like weak lensing survey that observes half of the sky with five tomographic redshift bins, we explore the constraining power of the bispectrum on three cosmological parameters: the s…
We perform a Fisher analysis to estimate the expected constraints on the Epoch of Reionization (EoR) model parameters (i.e., minimum virial temperature, the ionizing efficiency and the mean free path of ionizing photons) taking into account the thermal noise of the exisitting telescopes, MWA and LOFAR. We consider how the inclusion of the 21cm bispectrum improves the constraints compared to using the power spectrum alone. Assuming that we perfectly remove the foreground, we found that the bispectrum, which is calculated by the 21cmFAST code, can constrain the EoR model parameters more tightly …
We explore the use of galaxy bispectrum induced by the nonlinear gravitational evolution as a possible probe to test general scalar-tensor theories with second-order equations of motion. We find that time dependence of the leading second-order kernel is approximately characterized by one parameter, the second-order index, which is expected to trace the higher-order growth history of the Universe. We show that our new parameter can significantly carry new information about the non-linear growth of structure. We forecast future constraints on the second-order index as well as the equation-of-sta…
Galaxy bispectrum is a promising probe of inflationary physics in the early universe as a measure of primordial non-Gaussianity (PNG), whereas its signal-to-noise ratio is significantly affected by the mode coupling due to non-linear gravitational growth. In this paper, we examine the standard reconstruction method of linear cosmic mass density fields from non-linear galaxy density fields to de-correlate the covariance in redshift-space galaxy bispectra. In particular, we evaluate the covariance of the bispectrum for massive-galaxy-sized dark matter halos with reconstruction by using 4000 inde…
Massive neutrinos suppress the growth of structure below their free-streaming scale and leave an imprint on large-scale structure. Measuring this imprint allows us to constrain the sum of neutrino masses, $M_ν$, a key parameter in particle physics beyond the Standard Model. However, degeneracies among cosmological parameters, especially between $M_ν$ and $σ_8$, limit the constraining power of standard two-point clustering statistics. In this work, we investigate whether we can break these degeneracies and constrain $\smnu$ with the next higher-order correlation function --- the bispectrum. We …
We forecast constraints on primordial non-Gaussianity (PNG) and bias parameters from measurements of galaxy power spectrum and bispectrum in future radio continuum and optical surveys. In the galaxy bispectrum, we consider a comprehensive list of effects, including the bias expansion for non-Gaussian initial conditions up to second order, redshift space distortions, redshift uncertainties and theoretical errors. These effects are all combined in a single PNG forecast for the first time. Moreover, we improve the bispectrum modelling over previous forecasts, by accounting for trispectrum contrib…
We develop and study the position-dependent bispectrum. It is a generalization of the recently proposed position-dependent power spectrum method of measuring the squeezed-limit bispectrum. The position-dependent bispectrum can similarly be used to measure the squeezed-limit trispectrum in which one of the wavelengths is much longer than the other three. In this work, we will mainly consider the case in which the three smaller wavelengths are nearly the same (the equilateral configuration). We use the Fisher information matrix to forecast constraints on bias parameters and the amplitude of prim…
We develop a needlet approach to estimate the amplitude of general (including non-separable) bispectra and trispectra in the cosmic microwave background, and apply this to the WMAP 9-year data. We obtain estimates for the `orthogonal' bispectrum mode, yielding results which are consistent with the WMAP 7-year data. We do not observe the frequency-dependence suggested by the WMAP team's analysis of the 9-year data. We present 1-$σ$ constraints on the `local' trispectrum shape $\gnl/10^5= -4.1\pm 2.3$, the `$c1$' equilateral model $\gnl^{c_1}/10^6= -0.8\pm 2.9$, and the constant model $\gnl^{\rm…
The Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effects are produced by the interaction of cosmic microwave background (CMB) photons with the ionized and diffuse gas of electrons inside galaxy clusters integrated along the line of sight. The two main effects are the thermal SZ (tSZ) produced by thermal pressure inside galaxy clusters and the kinetic SZ (kSZ) produce by peculiar motion of galaxy clusters compared to CMB rest-frame. The kSZ effect is particularly challenging to measure as it follows the same spectral behavior as the CMB, and consequently can not be separated from the CMB using spectral consideratio…
In this short paper, we present constraints on the Galileon inflationary model from the CMB bispectrum. We employ a principal-component analysis of the independent degrees of freedom constrained by data and apply this to the WMAP 9-year data to constrain the free parameters of the model. A simple Bayesian comparison establishes that support for the Galileon model from bispectrum data is at best weak.
The covariance matrix of the matter and halo power spectrum and bispectrum are studied. Using a large suite of simulations, we find that the non-Gaussianity in the covariance is significant already at mildly nonlinear scales. We compute the leading disconnected non-Gaussian correction to the matter bispectrum covariance using perturbation theory, and find that the corrections result in good agreement in the mildly nonlinear regime. The shot noise contribution to the halo power spectrum and bispectrum covariance is computed using the Poisson model, and the model yields decent agreement with sim…
We investigate how much can be learnt about four types of primordial non-Gaussianity (PNG) from small-scale measurements of the halo field. Using the QUIJOTE-PNG simulations, we quantify the information content accessible with measurements of the halo power spectrum monopole and quadrupole, the matter power spectrum, the halo-matter cross spectrum and the halo bispectrum monopole. This analysis is the first to include small, non-linear scales, up to $k_\mathrm{max}=0.5 \mathrm{h/Mpc}$, and to explore whether these scales can break degeneracies with cosmological and nuisance parameters making u…
The redshift-space bispectrum (three point statistics) of galaxies depends on the expansion rate, the growth rate, and geometry of the Universe, and hence can be used to measure key cosmological parameters. In a homogeneous Universe the bispectrum is a function of five variables and unlike its two point statistics counterpart -- the power spectrum, which is a function of only two variables -- is difficult to analyse unless the information is somehow reduced. The most commonly considered reduction schemes rely on computing angular integrals over possible orientations of the bispectrum triangle,…
We present a method to produce mock galaxy catalogues with efficient perturbation theory schemes, which match the number density, power spectra and bispectra in real and in redshift space from N-body simulations. The essential contribution of this work is the way in which we constrain the bias parameters in the PATCHY-code. In addition of aiming at reproducing the two-point statistics, we seek the set of bias parameters, which constrain the univariate halo probability distribution function (PDF) encoding higher-order correlation functions. We demonstrate that halo catalogues based on the same …
Several statistics have been proposed for measuring the kSZ effect by combining the small-scale CMB with galaxy surveys. We review five such statistics, and show that they are all mathematically equivalent to the optimal bispectrum estimator of type $\langle ggT \rangle$. Reinterpreting these kSZ statistics as special cases of bispectrum estimation makes many aspects transparent, for example optimally weighting the estimator, or incorporating photometric redshift errors. We analyze the information content of the bispectrum and show that there are two observables: the small-scale galaxy-electro…
We investigate the possibility of constraining primordial non-Gaussianity using the 3D bispectrum of Ly-alpha forest. The strength of the quadratic non-Gaussian correction to an otherwise Gaussian primordial gravitational field is assumed to be dictated by a single parameter fnl. We present the first prediction for bounds on fnl using Ly-alpha flux spectra along multiple lines of sight. The 3D Ly-$α$ transmitted flux field is modeled as a biased tracer of the underlying matter distribution sampled along 1D skewers corresponding to quasars sight lines. The precision to which fnl can be constrai…
We present a Fisher information study of the statistical impact of galaxy bias and selection effects on the estimation of key cosmological parameters from galaxy redshift surveys; in particular, the angular diameter distance, Hubble parameter, and linear growth rate at a given redshift, the cold dark matter density, and the tilt and running of the primordial power spectrum. The line-of-sight-dependent selection contributions we include here are known to exist in real galaxy samples. We determine the maximum wavenumber included in the analysis by requiring that the next-order corrections to the…

We address the amount of information in the non-Gaussian regime of weak lensing surveys by modelling all relevant covariances of the power spectra and bispectra, using 1000 ray-tracing simulation realizations for a Lambda-CDM model and an analytical halo model. We develop a formalism to describe the covariance matrices of power spectra and bispectra of all triangle configurations. In addition to the known contributions which extend up to six-point correlation functions, we propose a new contribution `the halo sample variance (HSV)' arising from the coupling of the lensing Fourier modes with la…
We perform for the first time a joint analysis of the monopole and quadrupoles for power spectrum, bispectrum and integrated trispectrum (i-trispectrum) from the redshift space matter field in N-body simulations. With a full Markov Chain Monte Carlo exploration of the posterior distribution, we quantify the constraints on cosmological parameters for an object density of $n_\mathrm{p}=5\times10^{-4} (h\,\mathrm{Mpc}^{-1})^{3}$, redshift $z=0.5$, and a covariance corresponding to a survey volume of $V_\mathrm{survey} =25\,(h^{-1}\mathrm{Gpc})^3$, a set up which is representative of forthcoming g…
We re-examine a genuine power of weak lensing bispectrum tomography for constraining cosmological parameters, when combined with the power spectrum tomography, based on the Fisher information matrix formalism. To account for the full information at two- and three-point levels, we include all the power spectrum and bispectrum information built from all-available combinations of tomographic redshift bins, multipole bins and different triangle configurations over a range of angular scales (up to lmax=2000 as our fiducial choice). For the parameter forecast, we use the halo model approach in Kayo,…
We extend the modal decomposition method, previously applied to compress the information in the real-space bispectrum, to the anisotropic redshift-space galaxy bispectrum. In the modal method approach, the bispectrum is expanded on a basis of smooth functions of triangles and their orientations, such that a set of modal expansion coefficients can capture the information in the bispectrum. We assume a reference survey and compute Fisher forecasts for the compressed modal bispectrum and two other basis decompositions of the redshift-space bispectrum in the literature, one based on (single) spher…
The 21cm emission of neutral hydrogen is a potential probe of the matter distribution in the Universe after reionisation. Cosmological surveys of this line intensity will be conducted in the coming years by the SKAO and HIRAX experiments, complementary to upcoming galaxy surveys. We present the first forecasts of the cosmological constraints from the combination of the 21cm power spectrum and bispectrum. Fisher forecasts are computed for the constraining power of these surveys on cosmological parameters, the BAO distance functions and the growth function. We also estimate the constraining powe…
We investigate expected constraints on equilateral-type primordial non-Gaussianities from future/ongoing imaging surveys, making use of the fact that they enhance the halo/galaxy bispectrum on large scales. As model parameters to be constrained, in addition to $f_{\rm NL}^{\rm equil}$, which is related to the primordial bispectrum, we consider $g_{\rm NL}^{(\partial σ)^4}$, which is related to the primordial trispectrum that appeared in the effective field theory of inflation. After calculating the angular bispectra of the halo/galaxy clustering and weak gravitational lensing based on the inte…
The apparent anisotropies of the galaxy clustering in observable redshift space provide a unique opportunity to simultaneously probe cosmic expansion and gravity on cosmological scales via the Alcock--Paczynski effect and redshift-space distortions. While the improved theoretical models have been proposed and developed to describe the apparent anisotropic clustering at weakly non-linear scales, the applicability of these models is still limited in the presence of the non--perturbative smearing effect caused by the randomness of the relative velocities. Although the cosmological constraint from…
We examine the cosmological constraining power of future large-scale weak lensing surveys on the model of \emph{Euclid}, with particular reference to primordial non-Gaussianity. Our analysis considers several different estimators of the projected matter power spectrum, based on both shear and flexion, for which we review the covariances and Fisher matrices. The bounds provided by cosmic shear alone for the local bispectrum shape, marginalized over $σ_8$, are at the level of $Δf_\mathrm{NL} \sim 100$. We consider three additional bispectrum shapes, for which the cosmic shear constraints range f…
Combination of the power spectrum and bispectrum is a powerful way of breaking degeneracies between galaxy bias and cosmological parameters, enabling us to maximize the constraining power from galaxy surveys. Recent cosmological constraints treat the power spectrum and bispectrum on an uneven footing: they include one-loop bias corrections for the power spectrum but not the bispectrum. To bridge this gap, we develop the galaxy bias description up to fourth order in perturbation theory, conveniently expressed through a basis of Galilean invariants that clearly split contributions that are local…
The radiations from the first luminous sources drive the fluctuations in the 21-cm signal at Cosmic Dawn (CD) via two dominant astrophysical processes i.e. the Ly$α$ coupling and X-ray heating, making this signal highly non-Gaussian. The impact of these processes on the 21-cm signal and its non-Gaussianity vary depending on the properties of these first sources of light. In this work, we consider different CD scenarios by varying two major source parameters i.e. the minimum halo mass $M_{\rm h,\, min}$ and X-ray photon production efficiency $f_{\rm X}$ in a 1D radiative transfer code GRIZZLY. …
We study the information content of the angle-averaged (monopole) redshift space galaxy bispectrum. The main novelty of our approach is the use of a systematic tree-level perturbation theory model that includes galaxy bias, IR resummation, and also accounts for nonlinear redshift space distortions, binning, and projection effects. We analyze data from the PT challenge simulations, whose cumulative volume of 566 $h^{-3}$Gpc$^3$ allows for a precise comparison to theoretical predictions. Fitting the power spectrum and bispectrum of our simulated data, and varying all necessary cosmological and n…
We calculate the bispectrum of scale-invariant tensor modes sourced by spectator SU(2) gauge fields during inflation in a model containing a scalar inflaton, a pseudoscalar axion and SU(2) gauge fields. A large bispectrum is generated in this model at tree-level as the gauge fields contain a tensor degree of freedom, and its production is dominated by self-coupling of the gauge fields. This is a unique feature of non-Abelian gauge theory. The shape of the tensor bispectrum is approximately an equilateral shape for $3\lesssim m_Q\lesssim 4$, where $m_Q$ is an effective dimensionless mass of the…

We address key points for an efficient implementation of likelihood codes for modern weak lensing large-scale structure surveys. Specifically, we focus on the joint weak lensing convergence power spectrum-bispectrum probe and we tackle the numerical challenges required by a realistic analysis. Under the assumption of (multivariate) Gaussian likelihoods, we have developed a high performance code that allows highly parallelised prediction of the binned tomographic observables and of their joint non-Gaussian covariance matrix accounting for terms up to the 6-point correlation function and super-s…
We propose a theoretical framework that can possibly constrain the initial vacuum by Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) observations. With a generic vacuum without any particular choice a priori, thereby keeping both the Bogolyubov coefficients in the analysis, we compute observable parameters from two- and three-point correlation functions. We are thus left with constraining four model parameters from the two complex Bogolyubov coefficients. We also demonstrate a method of finding out the constraint relations between the Bogolyubov coefficients using the theoretical normalization condition and…
We have carried out 870 micron observations in the J1040.7-1155 field, known to host an overdensity of Lyman break galaxies at z=5.16 +/- 0.05. We do not detect any individual source at the S(870)=3.0 mJy/beam (2 sigma) level. A stack of nine spectroscopically confirmed z>5 galaxies also yields a non-detection, constraining the submillimeter flux from a typical galaxy at this redshift to S(870)<0.85 mJy, which corresponds to a mass limit M(dust)<1.2x10^8 M_sun (2 sigma). This constrains the mass of thermal dust in distant Lyman break galaxies to less than one tenth of their typical stellar mas…
We study the cosmological information content of the redshift-space galaxy bispectrum monopole at one-loop order in perturbation theory. We incorporate all effects necessary for comparison to data: fourth-order galaxy bias, infrared resummation (accounting for the non-linear evolution of baryon acoustic oscillations), ultraviolet counterterms, non-linear redshift-space distortions, stochastic contributions, projection, and binning effects. The model is implemented using FFTLog, and validated with the PT Challenge suite of $N$-body simulations, whose large volume allows for high-precision tests…

We explore two methods of compressing the redshift space galaxy power spectrum and bispectrum with respect to a chosen set of cosmological parameters. Both methods involve reducing the dimension of the original data-vector ( e.g. 1000 elements ) to the number of cosmological parameters considered ( e.g. seven ) using the Karhunen-Loève algorithm. In the first case, we run MCMC sampling on the compressed data-vector in order to recover the one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) posterior distributions. The second option, approximately 2000 times faster, works by orthogonalising the param…
The primordial non-Gaussian parameter fNL has been shown to be scale-dependent in several models of inflation with a variable speed of sound. Starting from a simple ansatz for a scale-dependent amplitude of the primordial curvature bispectrum for two common phenomenological models of primordial non-Gaussianity, we perform a Fisher matrix analysis of the bispectra of the temperature and polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation and derive the expected constraints on the parameter nNG that quantifies the running of fNL(k) for current and future CMB missions such as WMAP, Pl…
Massive spinning particles, if present during inflation, lead to a distinctive bispectrum of primordial perturbations, the shape and amplitude of which depend on the masses and spins of the extra particles. This signal, in turn, leaves an imprint in the statistical distribution of galaxies; in particular, as a non-vanishing galaxy bispectrum, which can be used to probe the masses and spins of these particles. In this paper, we present for the first time a new theoretical template for the bispectrum generated by massive spinning particles, valid for a general triangle configuration. We then pro…
The shapes of galaxy N-point correlation functions can be used as standard rulers to constrain the distance-redshift relationship and thence the expansion rate of the Universe. The cosmological density fields traced by late-time galaxy formation are initially nearly Gaussian, and hence all the cosmological information can be extracted from their 2-Point Correlation Function (2PCF) or its Fourier-space analog the power spectrum. Subsequent nonlinear evolution under gravity, as well as halo and then galaxy formation, generate higher-order correlation functions. Since the mapping of the initial t…
We demonstrate the utility and constraining power of a new statistic for investigating galaxy bias: the galaxy-lensing phase difference. The statistic consists in taking the differences of the phases of the harmonic wave-modes between the weak lensing convergence field and the galaxy count field. We use dark matter simulations populated with galaxies up to redshift $z=1$ to test the performance of this estimator. We find that phase differences are sensitive to the absolute value of the second order bias ($c_2=b_2/b_1$), and demonstrate why this is the case. For a $\sim$1500 sq. deg. galaxy sur…
