Gudder, in a recent paper, defined a candidate entanglement measure which is called the entanglement number. The entanglement number is first defined on pure states and then it extends to mixed states by the convex roof construction. In Gudder's article it was left as an open problem to show that Optimal Pure State Ensembles (OPSE) exist for the convex roof extension of the entanglement number from pure to mixed states. We answer Gudder's question in the affirmative, and therefore we obtain that the entanglement number vanishes only on the separable states. More generally we show that OPSE exist for the convex roof extension of any function that is norm continuous on the pure states of a finite dimensional Hilbert space. Further we prove that the entanglement number is an LOCC monotone, (and thus an entanglement measure), by using a criterion that was developed by Vidal in 2000. We present a simplified proof of Vidal's result where moreover we use an interesting point of view of tree representations for LOCC communications. Lastly, we generalize Gudder's entanglement number by producing a monotonic family of entanglement measures which converge in a natural way to the entropy of entanglement.
The property of the optimal signal ensembles of entanglement assisted channel capacity is studied. A relationship between entanglement assisted channel capacity and one-shot capacity of unassisted channel is obtained. The data processing inequalities, convexity and additivity of the entanglement assisted channel capacity are reformulated by simple methods.
We analyse the relationship between the full additivity of the entanglement cost and its full monotonicity under local operations and classical communication. We show that the two properties are equivalent for the entanglement cost. The proof works for the regularization of any convex, subadditive, and asymptotically continuous entanglement monotone, and hence also applies to the asymptotic relative entropy of entanglement.
We investigate the properties of three entanglement measures that quantify the statistical distinguishability of a given state with the closest disentangled state that has the same reductions as the primary state. In particular, we concentrate on the relative entropy of entanglement with reversed entries. We show that this quantity is an entanglement monotone which is strongly additive, thereby demonstrating that monotonicity under local quantum operations and strong additivity are compatible in principle. In accordance with the presented statistical interpretation which is provided, this enta…
We discuss in this letter Lewenstein-Sanpera (L-S) decomposition for a specific Werner state. Compared with the optimal case, we propose a quasi-optimal one which in the view of concurrence leads to the same entanglement measure for the entangled mixed state discussed. We think that in order to obtain entanglement of given state the optimal L-S decomposition is not necessary.
The purpose of these notes is to discuss the relation between the additivity questions regarding the quantities (Holevo) capacity of a quantum channel T and entanglement of formation of a given bipartite state. In particular, using the Stinespring dilation theorem, we give a formula for the channel capacity involving entanglement of formation. This can be used to show that additivity of the latter for some states can be inferred from the additivity of capacity for certain channels. We demonstrate this connection for a family of group--covariant channels, allowing us to calculate the entangleme…
We argue that in the case of identical particles the most natural identification of separability, that is of absence of non-classical correlations, is via the factorization of mean values of commuting observables. It thus follows that separability and entanglement depend both on the state and on the choice of observables and are not absolute notions. We compare this point of view with a recent novel approach to the entanglement of identical particles, which allows for the definition of an entanglement entropy from a suitably defined reduced particle density matrix, without the need of labeling…
We make remarks on the paper of Du et al (quant-ph/0011078) by pointing out that the quantum strategy proposed by the paper is trivial to the card game and proposing a simple classical strategy to make the game in classical sense fair too.
We present an interesting monogamy equation for $(2 \otimes 2 \otimes n)$-dimensional pure states, by which a quantity is found to characterize the tripartite entanglement with the GHZ type and W typeentanglements as a whole. In particular, we, for the first time, reveals that for any quantum state of a pair of qubits, the difference between the two remarkable entanglement measures, concurrence and negativity, characterizes the W type entanglement of tripartite pure states with the two-qubit state as reduced density.
We demonstrate that any pure bipartite state of two qubits may be decomposed into a superposition of a maximally entangled state and an orthogonal factorizable one. Although there are many such decompositions, the weights of the two superposed states are, remarkably, unique. We propose a measure of entanglement based on this decomposition. We also demonstrate that this measure is connected to three measures of entanglement previously set forth: maximal violation of Bell's inequality, concurrence, and two-particle visibility.
We associate to every entanglement measure a family of measures which depend on a precision parameter, and which we call epsilon-measures of entanglement. Their definition aims at addressing a realistic scenario in which we need to estimate the amount of entanglement in a state that is only partially known. We show that many properties of the original measure are inherited by the family, in particular weak monotonicity under transformations applied by means of Local Operations and Classical Communication (LOCC). On the other hand, they may increase on average under stochastic LOCC. Remarkably,…
A bipartite state which is secretly chosen from a finite set of known entangled pure states cannot be immediately useful in standard quantum information processing tasks. To effectively make use of the entanglement contained in this unknown state, we introduce a new way to locally manipulate the original quantum system: either identify the state successfully or distill some pure entanglement. Remarkably, if many copies are available, we show that any finite set of entangled pure states, whatever orthogonal or not, can be locally distinguished in this way, which further implies that pure entang…
In gauge theories the presence of constraints can obstruct expressing the global Hilbert space as a tensor product of the Hilbert spaces corresponding to degrees of freedom localized in complementary regions. In algebraic terms, this is due to the presence of a center --- a set of operators which commute with all others --- in the gauge invariant operator algebra corresponding to finite region. A unique entropy can be assigned to algebras with center, giving place to a local entropy in lattice gauge theories. However, ambiguities arise on the correspondence between algebras and regions. In par…
We introduce the general catalysts for pure entanglement transformations under local operations and classical communications in such a way that we disregard the profit and loss of entanglement of the catalysts per se. As such, the possibilities of pure entanglement transformations are greatly expanded. Remarkably, we find an interesting phenomenon that, in some situations, incomparable pairs ${| ψ> ,| ϕ> \} $ and ${| χ> ,| χ^{\prime}> \} $ can assist each other mutually so as to realize the transformation $| ψ> | χ> \to| ϕ> | χ^{\prime}>$. We also design an efficient algorithm to detect whethe…
Port-based teleportation (PBT) is a teleportation scheme such that the teleported state appears in one of receiver's multiple output ports without any correcting operation on the output port. In this paper, we make some remarks on PBT. Those include the possibility of recoverable PBT (a hybrid protocol between PBT and the standard teleportation scheme), the possibility of port-based superdense coding (a dual protocol to PBT), and the fidelily upper bound expected from the entanglement monogamy relation in asymmetric universal cloning.
We evaluate a Gaussian entanglement measure for a symmetric two-mode Gaussian state of the quantum electromagnetic field in terms of its Bures distance to the set of all separable Gaussian states. The required minimization procedure was considerably simplified by using the remarkable properties of the Uhlmann fidelity as well as the standard form II of the covariance matrix of a symmetric state. Our result for the Gaussian degree of entanglement measured by the Bures distance depends only on the smallest symplectic eigenvalue of the covariance matrix of the partially transposed density operato…
The proof of additivity of entanglement of formation for some special cases is given. The strong concavity of von Neumann entropy due to strong subadditivity of von Neumann entropy is presented. Some general relations concerning about the entanglement of formation are proposed.
We establish a general operational one-to-one mapping between coherence measures and entanglement measures: Any entanglement measure of bipartite pure states is the minimum of a suitable coherence measure over product bases. Any coherence measure of pure states, with extension to mixed states by convex roof, is the maximum entanglement generated by incoherent operations acting on the system and an incoherent ancilla. Remarkably, the generalized CNOT gate is the universal optimal incoherent operation. In this way, all convex-roof coherence measures, including the coherence of formation, are end…
For manipulations of multipartite quantum systems, it was well known that all local operations assisted by classical communication (LOCC) constitute a proper subset of the class of separable operations. Recently, Gheorghiu and Griffiths found that LOCC and general separable operations are equally powerful for transformations between bipartite pure states. In this letter we extend this comparison to mixed states and show that in general separable operations are strictly stronger than LOCC when transforming a mixed state to a pure entangled state. A remarkable consequence of our finding is the e…
I recall my 'matter-gravity entanglement hypothesis' and briefly review the evidence for it, based partly on its seeming ability to resolve a number of puzzles related to quantum black holes including the black hole information loss puzzle. I point out that, according to this hypothesis, there is a quantity, i.e. the universe's 'matter-gravity entanglement entropy' -- which deserves to be considered the 'entropy of the universe' and which, with suitable initial conditions, will plausibly increase monotonically with cosmological time. In the last section, which is more tentative and raises a nu…
We exactly evaluate the entanglement of a six vertex and a nine vertex graph states which correspond to non ''two-colorable'' graphs. The upper bound of entanglement for five vertices ring graph state is improved to 2.9275, less than upper bound determined by LOCC. An upper bound of entanglement is proposed based on the definition of graph state.
On the basis of linear programming, new sets of entanglement witnesses (EWs) for 3x3 and 4x4 systems are constructed. In both cases, the constructed EWs correspond to the hyperplanes contacting, without intersecting, the related feasible regions at line segments and restricted planes respectively. Due to the special property of the contacting area between the hyper-planes and the feasible regions, the corresponding hyper-planes can be turned around the contacting area throughout a bounded interval and hence create an infinite number of EWs. As these EWs are able to detect entanglement of some …
In this paper we present the quantity, which is an entanglement parameter. Its origin is very intriguing, because its construction is motivated by separability criteria based on uncertainty relation. We show that this quantity is asymptotically continuous. We also find the lower and upper bounds for it. Our entanglement parameter has the same feature as the coherent information: both can be negative. There are also some classes of states for which these quantities coincide with each other.
The achievement of quantum supremacy boosted the need for a robust medium of quantum information. In this task, higher-dimensional qudits show remarkable noise tolerance and enhanced security for quantum key distribution applications. However, to exploit the advantages of such states, we need a thorough characterisation of their entanglement. Here, we propose a measure of entanglement which can be computed either for pure and mixed states of a $M$-qudit hybrid system. The entanglement measure is based on a distance deriving from an adapted application of the Fubini-Study metric. This measure i…
In this paper, the generating of entanglement by using some biparticle Bose systems acting on vacuum state are investigated. These systems include two-mode squeezed system, thermal system of a free single particle (where the fictitious tilde system is regarded another particle), and the system of two coupling harmonic oscillators. The technique of integration within an ordered product (IWOP) of operators is used.
We explore some basic entanglement features of multiqubit systems that are relevant for the development of algorithms for searching highly entangled states. In particular, we compare the behaviours of multiqubit entanglement measures based (i) on the von Neumann entropy of marginal density matrices and (ii) on the linear entropy of those matrices.
We combine recent results of Clifton and Halvorson [1] with structural results of the author [2--5] concerning the local observables in thermofield theory. An number of interesting consequences are discussed.
We show that entanglement of multiple atoms can arise via resonant interaction with a displaced thermal field with a macroscopic photon-number. The cavity field acts as the catalyst, which is disentangled with the atomic system after the operation. Remarkably, the entanglement speed does not decrease as the average photon-number of the mixed thermal state increases. The atoms may evolve to a highly entangled state even when the photon-number of the cavity mode approaches infinity.
It is known that the minimal output entropy is additive for any product of entanglement breaking (EB) channels. The same is true for the Renyi entropy, where additivity is equivalent to multiplicativity of the $1 \rightarrow q$ norm for all $q \ge 1$. In this paper we consider the related question of multiplicativity of the $2 \rightarrow q$ norm for entanglement breaking channels. We prove that multiplicativity holds in this case for certain classes of EB channels, including both the CQ and QC channels.
We evaluate and analyze the exact value of a measure for local genuine tripartite entanglement in the one-dimensional cluster-Ising model. This model is attractive since cluster states are considered to be relevant sources for applying quantum algorithms and the Ising interaction is an expected perturbation. Whereas bipartite entanglement is identically vanishing, we find that genuine tripartite entanglement is non zero in the anti-ferromagnetic phase and also in the cluster phase well before the critical point. We prove that the measure of local genuine tripartite entanglement captures all th…
We show that the presence of finite-size monopoles can lead to a number of interesting physical processes involving quantum entanglement of charges. Taking as a model the classical solution of the N=2 SU(2) Yang-Mills theory, we study interaction between dyons and scalar particles in the adjoint and fundamental representation. We find that there are bound states of scalars and dyons, which, remarkably, are always an entangled configuration of the form |ψ> =|dyon+> |scalar-> +/- |dyon->|scalar+>. We determine the energy levels and the wave functions and also discuss their stability.
We study the entanglement properties of some fractional quantum Hall liquids. We calculate the entanglement of the Laughlin wave function and the wave functions that are generated by the K-matrix using the modified entanglement measure of indistinguishable fermions that is first proposed by Paškauskas and You[1].
Spin coherent states are the matter equivalent of optical coherent states, where a large number of two component particles form a macroscopic state displaying quantum coherence. Here we give a detailed study of entanglement generated between two spin-1/2 BECs due to an Sz1 Sz2 interaction. The states that are generated show a remarkably rich structure showing fractal characteristics. In the limit of large particle number N, the entanglement shows a strong dependence upon whether the entangling gate times are a rational or irrational multiple of pi/4. We discuss the robustness of various states…
The unambiguous detection and quantification of entanglement is a hot topic of scientific research, though it is limited to low dimensions or specific classes of states. Here we identify an additional class of quantum states, for which bipartite entanglement measures can be efficiently computed, providing new rigorous results. Such states are written in arbitrary $d\times d$ dimensions, where each basis state in the subsystem A is paired with only one state in B. This new class, that we refer to as pair basis states, is remarkably relevant in many physical situations, including quantum optics.…
We study the problem of two superconducting quantum qubits coupled via a resonator. If only one quanta is present in the system and the number of photons in the resonator is measured with a null result, the qubits end up in an entangled Bell state. Here we look at one source of errors in this quantum nondemolition scheme due to the presence of more than one quanta in the resonator, previous to the measurement. By analyzing the structure of the conditional Hamiltonian with arbitrary number of quanta, we show that the scheme is remarkably robust against these type of errors.
We address the problem of quantifying the non-Markovian character of quantum time-evolutions of general systems in contact with an environment. We introduce two different measures of non-Markovianity that exploit the specific traits of quantum correlations and are suitable for opposite experimental contexts. When complete tomographic knowledge about the evolution is available, our measure provides a necessary and sufficient condition to quantify strictly the non-Markovianity. In the opposite case, when no information whatsoever is available, we propose a sufficient condition for non-Markoviani…
These are notes on some entanglement properties of quantum field theory, aiming to make accessible a variety of ideas that are known in the literature. The main goal is to explain how to deal with entanglement when -- as in quantum field theory -- it is a property of the algebra of observables and not just of the states.
