The $μ^+ \to e^+ X$ decay, where $X$ is a dark sector boson, provides one of the strongest available bounds on the scale of dark sector interactions. The $X$ boson can be an axion or a dark photon. We show that the concurrent determination of the anti-muon and positron polarizations makes possible to distinguish with a confidence level of 99% between the two dark sector portals with as few as 6 observed events in the case of the massless dark photon. Instead, the massive spin-1, dimension 4 dark portal cannot be distinguished from the axion-like case. We also discuss the possibility that the $X$ boson be a massive spin-2 particle.
For complete development of quantum electrodynamics in the presence of a strong external field, the proper understanding of resonant processes and all their peculiarities is essential. We present our attempt to analytically investigate the resonant case of laser-assisted electron-positron pair photoproduction on a nucleus. Due to the presence of external field, the intermediate virtual particle may become real, herewith the second order process in the fine structure constant effectively reduces into the two successive first order processes. All inherent kinematics features were discussed in de…
We investigate the prospects for discovering axion-like particles (ALPs) via a light-by-light (LBL) scattering at two colliders, the future circular collider (FCC-ee) and circular electron-positron collider (CEPC). The promising sensitivities to the effective ALP-photon coupling $g_{aγγ}$ are obtained. Our numerical results show that the FCC-ee and CEPC might be more sensitive to the ALPs with mass 2 GeV $\sim$ 10 GeV than the LHC and CLIC.
Dark matter particles annihilating in the Galactic halo can provide a flux of positrons potentially observable in upcoming experiments, such as PAMELA and AMS-02. We discuss the spectral features which may be associated with dark matter annihilation in the positron spectrum and assess the prospects for observing such features in future experiments. Although we focus on some specific dark matter candidates, neutralinos and Kaluza-Klein states, we carry out our study in a model independent fashion. We also revisit the positron spectrum observed by HEAT.
The psi(1P1) state can be produced at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider (BEPC) in the process psi'-->psi(1P1)+pi(0). We calculate the rate of this process taking account of the S-D mixing effect in psi'. It is shown that the rate is about a factor of 3 smaller than the simple result without considering the S-D mixing effect. Possible detecting channels are suggested and it is shown that psi(1P1) is able to be found with the accumulation of 30 million events of psi' at BEPC.
Lepton flavor violating interactions are absent in the standard model but are expected in various beyond standard models. In this work, the potential of the future circular electron-positron collider to probe the four fermion lepton flavor couplings via the $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow e^{\pm}τ^{\mp}$ process is revisited by means of an effective field theory approach. We provide constraints at $95\%$ CL on the dimension-six Wilson coefficients including major sources of background processes and considering realistic detector effects at four expected operation energies $\sqrt{s}=157.5$, $162.5$, $24…
Cosmic ray signals from dipole-interacting dark matter annihilation are considered in the positron, antiproton and photon channels. The predicted signals in the positron channel could nicely account for the excess of positron fraction from Fermi LAT, PAMELA, HEAT and AMS-01 experiments for the dark matter mass larger than 100 GeV with a boost (enhancement) factor of 30-80. No excess of antiproton over proton ratio at the experiments also gives a severe restriction for this scenario. With the boost factors, the predicted signals from Galactic halo and signals as mono-energetic gamma-ray lines (…
We consider theories where lepton flavor is violated, in particular concentrating on the four fermion operator consisting of three electrons and a tau. Strong constraints are available from existing searches for tau -> eee, requiring the scale of the contact interaction to be less than ~(9 TeV)^-2. We reexamine this type of physics, assuming that the particles responsible are heavy (with masses greater than ~TeV) such that a contact interaction description continues to be applicable at the energies for a future e+e- collider. We find that the process e+e- -> e tau can be a very sensitive probe…
By exploiting the relatively long lifetime of the tau lepton, we propose several novel methods for searching for new physics at an electron-positron collider. We consider processes that involve final states consisting of a tau lepton pair plus two missing particles. The mass and spin of the new physics particles can be measured in 3-prong tau decays. The tau polarization, which reflects the coupling to new physics, can be measured from the $τ\to πν$ decay channel using the impact parameter distribution of the charged pion. We also discuss the corresponding backgrounds for these measurements, t…
The 40 years old Standard Model, the theory of particle physics, seems to describe all experimental data very well. All of its elementary particles were identified and studied apart from the Higgs boson until 2012. For decades many experiments were built and operated searching for it, and finally, the two main experiments of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, CMS and ATLAS, in 2012 observed a new particle with properties close to those predicted for the Higgs boson. In this paper we outline the search story: the exclusion of the Higgs boson at LEP, the Large Electron Positron collider, and its…
The process of $e^+e^-$ production in the superposition of a Coulomb and a strong laser field is considered. The pair production rate integrated over the momentum and summed over the spin projections of one of the particles is derived exactly in the parameters of the laser field and in the Born approximation with respect to the Coulomb field. The case of a monochromatic circularly polarized laser field is considered in detail. A very compact analytical expression of the pair production rate and its dependence on the polarization of one of the created particles is obtained in the quasiclassical…
Positrons beam dump experiments have unique features to search for very narrow resonances coupled superweakly to $e^+ e^-$ pairs. Due to the continue loss of energy from soft photon bremsstrahlung, in the first few radiation lengths of the dump a positron beam can continuously scan for resonant production of new resonances via $e^+$ annihilation off an atomic $e^-$ in the target. In the case of a dark photon $A'$ kinetically mixed with the photon, this production mode is of first order in the electromagnetic coupling $α$, and thus parametrically enhanced with respect to the $O(α^2)$ $e^+e^- \t…
The abundant $ψ'$ events have been collected at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider-II (BEPCII) that could undoubtedly provide us with a great opportunity to study the more attractive charmonium decays. As has been noticed before, in the process of $J/ψ$ decaying to the baryonic final states, $p K^- \barΛ$, the evident $Λ^*$ and $N^*$ bands have been observed. Similarly, by using the product of $χ_{cJ}$ from $ψ'$ radiative decay, we may confirm it or find some extra new resonances. $χ_{c0}$'s data samples will be more than $χ_{c1,2}$ taking into account the larger branching ratio of $ψ'\toγ…
We investigate the relation between the annihilation of dark matter (DM) particles into lepton pairs and into 2-body final states including one or two photons. We parametrize the DM interactions with leptons in terms of contact interactions, and calculate the loop-level annihilation into monochromatic gamma rays, specifically computing the ratio of the DM annihilation cross sections into two gamma rays versus lepton pairs. While the loop-level processes are generically suppressed in comparison with the tree-level annihilation into leptons, we find that some choices for the mediator spin and co…
Fully polarized nonlinear Breit-Wheeler pair production from a beam of polarized seed photons is investigated in pulsed plane-wave backgrounds. The particle (electron and positron) spin and photon polarization are comprehensively described with the theory of the density matrix. The compact expressions for the energy spectrum and spin polarization of the produced particles, depending on the initial polarization of the seed photon beam, are derived and discussed in both linearly and circularly polarized laser backgrounds. The numerical results suggest an appreciable improvement of the positron y…
Electron positron collisions are a very promising environment to search for new physics, and in particular for dark sector related observables. The most challenging experimental problem in detecting dark sector candidates is the very high associated Standard Model background. For this reason it is important to identify observables that are, at the same time, minimally suppressed in the dark sector and highly suppressed in the Standard Model. One example is the $e^+ e^-\to 3(e^+e^-)$ process that can be mediated either by the production and subsequent decay of dark Higgs ($h'$), $e^+e^-\to A'h'…
High-luminosity experiments are able to search for new physics at low energies, which could have evaded detection thus far due to very weak couplings to the Standard Model. The DarkLight experiment at Jefferson Lab is designed to search for a new U(1) vector boson A' in the mass range 10-100 MeV through its decay A' -> e+ e-. In this paper, we demonstrate that DarkLight is also sensitive to an A' decaying to invisible final states. We analyze the DarkLight reach for invisible A' bosons assuming a nominal two month running time, including the possibility of augmenting the DarkLight design to in…
We propose an experiment to search for a new gauge boson A' in $e^+e^-$ annihilation by means of a positron beam incident on a gas hydrogen target internal to the bypass at the VEPP-3 storage ring. The search method is based on a missing mass spectra in the reaction $e^+e^-\rightarrow γ$ A'. It allows observation of the A' signal independently of its decay modes and life time. The projected result of this experiment corresponds to an upper limit on the square of the coupling constant $\varepsilon^2=3\cdot 10^{-8}$ with a signal-to-noise ratio of two to one at an A' mass of 5-20 MeV.

High energy colliders provide a new unique way to determine the microscopic properties of the dark matter (DM). Weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) are widely considered as one of the best DM candidates. It is usually assumed that the WIMP couples to the SM sector through its interactions with quarks and leptons. In this paper, we investigate the DM pair production associated with a $Z$ boson in an effective field theory framework at the International Linear Collider (ILC), which can be used to study the interactions between the DM and leptons. For illustrative purposes, we present th…
The production of heavy sterile neutrinos from $π^-,K^-$ decay at rest yields charged leptons with negative helicity (positive for $π^+,K^+$). We obtain the branching ratio for this process and argue that a Stern-Gerlach filter leads to spatially separated domains of both helicity components with abundances determined by the branching ratio. Complemented with a search of monochromatic peaks, this setup can yield both the mass and mixing angles for sterile neutrinos with masses in the range $3 MeV \lesssim m_s \lesssim 414 MeV$ in next generation high intensity experiments. We also study oscill…
A generic feature of weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) dark matter models is the emission of photons over a broad energy band resulting from the stable yields of dark matter pair annihilation. Inverse Compton scattering off cosmic microwave background photons of energetic electrons and positrons produced in dark matter annihilation is expected to produce significant diffuse X-ray emission. Dwarf galaxies are ideal targets for this type of dark matter search technique, being nearby, dark matter dominated systems free of any astrophysical diffuse X-ray background. In this paper, we pres…
The Belle II experiment aims to record 50 ab$^{-1}$ data with the high luminosity to be provided by the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider. The anticipated high statistics data enables us to perform studies of $B$ decays involving $τ$ leptons such as $B^+ \to τ^+ ν_τ$ and $B \to D^{(*)} τ^+ ν_τ$ modes. The precise measurements of branching fraction and of the $τ$ lepton polarization in these $B$ decays provide a very sensitive indirect search for a charged Higgs boson. Belle II sensitivity for the charged Higgs is complementary to direct searches at ATLAS and CMS. With the …
Certain models involving ALPs (axion-like-particles) allow for the coupling of scalars and pseudoscalars to fermions. A derivation of the total rate for production of massive scalars and pseudoscalars by an electron in a monochromatic, circularly-polarised electromagnetic background is presented. In addition, a derivation and the total rate for the decay of massive scalars and pseudoscalars into electron-positron pairs in the same electromagnetic background is given. We conclude by approximating the total yield of ALP production for a typical laser-particle experimental scenario.
Beijing Spectrometer (BES) at Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC), IHEP has accumulated 2.5 $\times 10^7$ J/$Ψ$ and plans to increase the number to $10^8 \sim 10^9$ in the near future. In this paper I review and summarize the recent studies on the possibilities of probing for new physics at BES. This includes the theoretical works on and experimental attempt performed at BES in searching for flavor changing neutral current, CP violation and lepton flavor violation in the processes of J/$Ψ$ decays.
We study the sensitivity of IceCube/DeepCore detector to dark matter annihilations in the Earth core. We focus on annihilation modes $χχ\to ν\barν, \, τ^+ τ^-, \, b \bar{b}$, and $W^+W^-$. Both track and cascade events are considered in our analysis. By fixing the dark matter annihilation cross section $\langle σ\upsilon\rangle$ at some nominal values, we study the sensitivity of IceCube/DeepCore detector to dark matter spin-independent cross section $σ_p^{\rm SI}$ for $m_χ$ ranging from few tens of GeV to 10 TeV. This sensitivity is compared with the existing IceCube 79-string constraint on t…
Unstable relics with lifetime longer than the age of the Universe could be the dark matter today. Electrons, photons and neutrinos are a natural outcome of their decay and could be searched for in cosmic rays and in $γ$-ray and neutrino detectors. I compare the sensitivities of these three types of searches to the mass and lifetime of a generic unstable particle. I show that if the relics constitute our galactic halo and their branching ratios into electron-positrons, photons and neutrinos are comparable, neutrino searches would probe the longest lifetimes for masses $\simge 40 \TeV$, while el…
We use 7 years of electron and positron Fermi-LAT data to search for a possible excess in the direction of the Sun in the energy range from 42 GeV to 2 TeV. In the absence of a positive signal we derive flux upper limits which we use to constrain two different dark matter (DM) models producing $e^+ e^-$ fluxes from the Sun. In the first case we consider DM model being captured by the Sun due to elastic scattering and annihilation into $e^+ e^-$ pairs via a long-lived light mediator that can escape the Sun. In the second case we consider instead a model where DM density is enhanced around the S…
Neutral gauge bosons beyond the Standard Model are becoming interesting as possible mediators to explain several experimental anomalies. They have small masses, below one GeV, and are referred to as dark photons, $U$, $A'$ or $Z'$ bosons. Electron--positron collision experiments at the B-factories provide the most straightforward way to probe bosons of this kind. In the present article we study production of the bosons at $e^+e^-$ colliders operating at GeV center-of-mass energies. We have studied two channels: $e^+e^-\rightarrow γZ'$ and $e^+e^-\rightarrow e^+e^-Z'$. Analytic expressions for …
Ultralight bosons, which are predicted in a variety of beyond-Standard-Model scenarios as dark-matter candidates, can trigger the superradiant instability around spinning black holes. This instability gives rise to oscillating boson condensates which then dissipate through the emission of nearly monochromatic gravitational waves. Such systems are promising sources for current and future gravitational-wave detectors. In this work, we consider minimally-coupled, massive vector bosons, which can produce a significantly stronger gravitational-wave signal compared to the scalar case. We adopt recen…
Within the frame of LDM (light dark matter)-model, the LDM exchange particle $U$-boson (with mass 10-100 MeV) can be produced from many meson decay process so it attracts a lot of attention. Considering the merit of searching the $U$-boson from $π^{0}$ decay, the momentum spectra of light spin-1 vector $U$-boson from decay channel $π^{0}\rightarrow γU$ and the energy spectra of positron decay from $U\rightarrow e^{+}e^{-}$ at beam energy of 5-10 GeV are first presented by using a relativistic transport (ART) model. Moreover, the feasibility and rationality of searching the $U$-boson in the expe…
It was recently pointed out that in supersymmetric scenarios with gravitino dark matter and bilinear R-parity violation, gravitinos with masses below Mw typically decay with a sizable branching ratio into the 3-body final states W^*+lepton and Z^*+neutrino. In this paper we study the indirect detection signatures of gravitino dark matter including such final states. First, we obtain the gamma ray spectrum from gravitino decays, which features a monochromatic contribution from the decay into photon+neutrino and a continuum contribution from the three-body decays. After studying its dependence o…
The decay of dark matter particles which are coupled predominantly to charged leptons has been proposed as a possible origin of excess high-energy positrons and electrons observed by cosmic-ray telescopes PAMELA and Fermi LAT. Even though the dark matter itself is electrically neutral, the tree-level decay of dark matter into charged lepton pairs will generically induce radiative two-body decays of dark matter at the quantum level. Using an effective theory of leptophilic dark matter decay, we calculate the rates of radiative two-body decays for scalar and fermionic dark matter particles. Due …
We explore the prospects for indirect detection of neutralino dark matter in supersymmetric models with an extended Higgs sector (NMSSM). We compute, for the first time, one-loop amplitudes for NMSSM neutralino pair annihilation into two photons and two gluons, and point out that extra diagrams (with respect to the MSSM), featuring a potentially light CP-odd Higgs boson exchange, can strongly enhance these radiative modes. Expected signals in neutrino telescopes due to the annihilation of relic neutralinos in the Sun and in the Earth are evaluated, as well as the prospects of detection of a ne…
CP violation is an excellent tool for probing flavor dynamics as we learnt first with $K_L \to 2 π$ and later also with the weak decays of beauty mesons. LHCb 2019 data have shown CP violation for the first time in $D^0\to K^-K^+$ vs. $D^0\toπ^-π^+$. Searching for CP asymmetries is of great interest in charm quark sector in the Standard Model (SM) or even more beyond it. In charm hadron decays, lots of work had focused on two-body final states, and the measurements of CP asymmetries in three- or four-body final states are rare. Dalitz plots have shown an excellent record for three-body final s…
Conventionally, one can constrain the dark matter (DM) interaction with DM mass heavier than GeV by searching for DM induced synchrotron emission in the radio frequency band. However, an MeV DM can also generate detectable radio emission if electrons and positrons produced by DM annihilation or decay undergoes inverse Compton scattering (ICS) with the cosmic microwave background. The upcoming radio telescope Square Kilometre Array (SKA) is designed to operate with extremely high sensitivity. We investigate the capability of the SKA to detect DM particles in a board mass range from MeV to TeV, …
Axion dark matter (DM) may efficiently convert to photons in the magnetospheres of neutron stars (NSs), producing nearly monochromatic radio emission. This process is resonantly triggered when the plasma frequency induced by the underlying charge distribution approximately matches the axion mass. We search for evidence of this process using archival Green Bank Telescope data collected in a survey of the Galactic Center in the C-Band by the Breakthrough Listen project. While Breakthrough Listen aims to find signatures of extraterrestrial life in the radio band, we show that their high-frequency…
We show how the semiclassical formulas for radiation emission of Baier, Katkov and Strakhovenko for arbitrary initial and final spins of the electron and arbitrary polarization of the emitted photon can be rewritten in a form which numerically converges quickly. We directly compare the method in the case of a background plane wave with the result obtained by using the Volkov state solution of the Dirac equation, and confirm that we obtain the same result. We then investigate the interaction of a circularly polarized short laser pulse scattering with GeV electrons and see that the finite durati…
Discovery of unexpected properties of the Higgs boson offers an intriguing opportunity of shedding light on some of the most profound puzzles in particle physics. The Beyond Standard Model (BSM) decays of the Higgs boson could reveal new physics in a direct manner. Future electron-positron lepton colliders operating as Higgs factories, including CEPC, FCC-ee and ILC, with the advantages of a clean collider environment and large statistics, could greatly enhance the sensitivity in searching for these BSM decays. In this work, we perform a general study of Higgs exotic decays at future $e^+e^-$ …
We consider a model of dark matter whose most prominent signature is a monochromatic flux of TeV neutrinos from the galactic center. As an example of a general scenario, we consider a specific model where the dark matter is a fermion in the adjoint representation of a hidden SU(N) gauge group that confines at GeV energies. The absence of light fermionic states in the dark sector ensures stability of dark matter on cosmological time scales. Dark matter couples to the standard model via the neutrino portal, that is, the singlet operator H L constructed from the Higgs and lepton doublets, which i…

We performed a deep search for radio synchrotron emissions induced by weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) annihilation or decay in six dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxies of the Local Group. Observations were conducted with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) at 16 cm wavelength, with an rms sensitivity better than 0.05 mJy/beam in each field. In this work, we first discuss the uncertainties associated with the modeling of the expected signal, such as the shape of the dark matter (DM) profile and the dSph magnetic properties. We then investigate the possibility that point-source…
